Elements 9 not imporing from iphoto

I bought the update of ilife. Now Elements 9 is not importing photos from iphoto. It did before the update. Elements comes up with a message 'There is no media to import from your iPhoto'. I am on a photography course and bought Elements 9 for mac.I have only recently invested in my wonderful mac but at the moment I am reaching screaming point.

Maybe this will help:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds.

Yes.  It's been that way for some time now, even with other external editors. You can send a report to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

  • Elements 9 not uploading from SD card

Why is Elements 9 not uploading photos from my SD Card all of a sudden.  Opening screen indicates Elements PS no longer available.  I do not use this.  For years I have always used "Organize" from the opening screen, not "Edit".  Then when I go to  File/Get photos from/Camera or Card Reader, and select that option, I receive a message stating "No Source Found."  I have PC and Windows 7. Need answers.

  • My Photoshop Elements moved my pix from iPhoto but the picture names have been lost???

I installed  a copy of Photoshop Elements 12 yesterday.  I had been using iPhoto and had literally hundreds of pictures, each with an aphpa-numeric names.  I imported the photos from IPhoto into Elements 12, but there are no longer identifying names on any picture.   Where are the names?  There is a column of numeric file names in [Organizer] along  the left sides - which mean nothing to me.  I have tried every button I could find and searched the Photoshop Elements for Dummies for a possible solution.  I asked two friends familiar with full blown Photoshop and they are perplexed.  So am I.  Has anybody any useful suggestions?  Thank you

If you used the "from iPhoto" command, you made duplicates of your iphoto library photos. Just delete them and then decide how you want to proceed. "From iPhoto" is to be used if you decide you want to use the elements organizer exclusively and not iphoto anymore, but you don't have to do that. You can make a small test catalog with just some photos from iphoto, or you can set up PSE as your external editor from iphoto, or you can export photos from iphoto to the desktop, edit them in PSE and then reimport them back to iphoto as new images.
Which would you like to try?

  • Constant program not responding from iPhoto on Activity Monitor

    Hello
I just fixed a whole hard drive with Disk Warrior and the results where that iPhoto files corrupted the disk.
Now i have 15000 fotos in this thing and decided to create a whole new library on another drive so i can format the old one and have 2 (one as a back up) incase anything should take place again.
Ok so i drag and drop the fotos back into the new iPhoto library but every time i do and even 10 fotos it hangs!
    Can anyone advise please?
Imac core2 duo, 2GB ram, 700GB USB drive

    LP:
I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with iPhoto. Have any of your photos been edited with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements? What version of iPhoto are you using? If you're not at 6.0.6 then update to that version along with Quicktime 7.1.5. iPhoto 6.0.5 had a problem with image files that had no color profile embedded.
If you can determine if a particular file is giving you problems then download the "Embed sRGB Profile" application (an Automator created app) from Toad's Cellar and put it on the desktop. Then drag and drop that file onto the application. It will embed the sRGB profile into the file. Now see if that file will import successfully into iPhoto. If so, you can drop the folder (s) containing your image files onto the application and it will embed the all, even those in subfolders.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Exporting Originals (not Modified) from iPhoto 09 to Adobe Lightroom 2

    Hi all.
What is the best way (if any) to export photos in the Originals folder of iPhoto into Lightroom 2 and:
    1. Keep keywords
    2. Keep similar organization to "events" (e.g. an event called Fall 2009 in iPhoto would create a folder within a LR catalog just like that one with the same photos).
I have seen exporters that aren't supported for iPhoto 09, have seen tutorials, but none of them talk about preserving the keywords in the transition, for instance.
    Thanks.

You can't from iPhoto +into Lightroom+. What you do is export to Folders of images. Then you can import those to Lr.
    To export Originals:
File -> Export: in the resulting dialogue select: Kind: Original
You cannot export Originals with keywords - why? Because if you add keywords they are not Originals. When iPhoto exports the Original that's exactly what you get, the pic as shot in your camera.
    Keep similar organization to "events"...
Export each event at a time to a separate folder. Then import that folder to Lr.

  • External edits (PS CS 6) do not transfer from iPhoto to Aperture

I am sharing my main Aperture libary between Aperture and iPhoto. It works well, only external edits are problematic, when done while browsing the library in iPhoto.
When I open the library in iPhoto and edit a jpeg photo in Photoshop CS6, I can see clearly the edited version in the browser, for example, after applying the oil-paint effect in CS6.
But in Aperture the edits do not show: After switching from iPhoto to Aperture the externally edited image is still showing the original version, no indication of an external edit in the badges, no new version generated.
But when I drag the preview from the browser, the preview is showing the edits done in Photoshop CS6.
I suspect, because iPhoto is not creating a new quasi master like Aperture, and the external edits are witten to the preview of the edited version, the only way to access the external iPhoto edits will be by exporting the preview.
I tried this, because I wanted to avoid the creation of tiff or psd files as quasi masters, when doing external edits on  jpegs, but when the edits are invisible in Aperture it will be no great help.  Now, is that a bug or a feature?
    Aperture 3.5.1, iPhoto 9.5.1, PS CS6

So, to clarify, what's happening is that the Thumbnails are not updating to match the changes made in Photoshop?
Where is your Library? On your start-up disk? On an External? If on an External, what format is that?
This might be a form of corruption, try Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
Maybe I need to reset the Preferences?
Perhaps? Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
Is it because I a have accumulated about 5,000 images in my library and the program is maxing out?
iPhoto 09 is good for a 250,000 images so you've got a little headroom yet...

  • How do I import edited images and NOT masters from iphoto

I'm trialling aperture with a view to migrating from iphoto. I having difficulty importing images from iphoto in so much as whatever options I use to import aperture brings both the master photo and edited version from iphoto. I'd prefer to import only masters where no edited version exists AND where a photo has been edited within iphoto just the edited version (and all metadata, faces, keywords, places etc).
    Is this possible?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Then you don't want to import your iPhoto Library, what you want to do is export the files from iPhoto (File -> Original *Kind: Current*) to folders on the desktop and then import from there.
Note that using the Current setting will miss a lot of metadata. If you want that you'll need to set the *Kind to Jpeg* and check the boxes at "titles and descriptions" and "Places information". However, if you're unedited images are Raw you won’t get the masters, obviously.

You also didn't describe what happens when you try to import.

this just started happening when i updated to "IMOVIE 11"
OK, that's a bit more information.
iMovie was probably already running when you imported the pictures into iPhoto and wasn't aware of the last import.
Try to quit iMovie and iPhoto, then launch iMovie again. The last import should show up.

  • How to install Photoshop Elements 10 (not Premiere) from disc?

Can anyone help me?  Purchaed Photoshop Elements 10 at Best Buy.  Finally figured out how to get serial number.  Figured out you have to insert disc 2 first.  Wizzard comes up. Only comes up with choice to install Photoshop Premiere Elements 10, ( not Photoshop Elements 10).  If I move to "next"  it will allow me to install "Trial" version of Premiere, or enter a serial # (for Premiere).  If I enter the serial number obtained, it indicates "invalid serial #".  Have tried with two seperate purchased disc sets.  Best Buy is useless as far as help goes, same with Adobe!  Can anyone help?

Have you read this article: Install Premiere Elements, Photoshop Elements? Also what are your system specs? Is there a previous version installed or any otehr Adobe products for that matter?

  • Some of my pictures will not sync from iPhoto

I have an original iPad and an iMac (Early 2009) running Lion.  All of my pictures won't sync from iPhoto to the iPad.  I used to get an error message when I was running Leopard, before upgrading to IOS 5 on the iPad.  I no longer get the error message, but some events just won't transfer.  I seem to remember something about optimizing pictures??
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Ralph

Thanks!  I thought I had done that, but I was deleteing the wrong cache.  It was important that I deleted the cache in the iPhoto directory, which I couldn't figure out how to access.  I needed to use the "Show Package Contents" option on the dropdown menu of the "iPhoto Library" folder.
All is fixed and I have all my pictures on my iPad.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 removed pictures from iPhoto

I installed Photoshop Elements 12 then imported photos. Now iPhoto has no pictures. I have a backup on an external drive using Time Machine, but clicking "restore" did not solve the problem. Only a boundary box appears. When I scroll quickly through the pictures, I can see them, but when I stop scrolling, only a box appears. What to do?
    Thanks very much

I installed Photoshop Elements 12 then imported photos
It sounds like you had Adobe Bridge move the orignal photos out of iPhoto to its own folder system.  That's not how you use PSE with iPhoto.
Once you get the iPhoto library back together, either by restoring the backup copy made just before this happended or creating a new library and importing the photos Adobe Bridge moved out you can setup PSE to work within the iPhoto Library as follows:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

  • Some photos will not sync from iPhoto to iPad

I could REALLY use some help. For starters, here is what I am working with:
iPad3, 64 Gigs, 32 gigs free, up to date iOS
Mac Pro with OSX 10.8.3 and iPhoto 9.4.2
The main problem is that some photos can not be synced to my iPad. I have done this for years using iTunes. When I am in iTunes, I can see the albums where the photos are supposed to be. But often, the number of photos in the folder is listed as zero. Other times, the number is less than the number that is actually in the folder on my Mac. Syncing or Applying does not find and move the seemingly invisible pictures. The photos on my Mac are in JPEG format, and can be seen and emailed and edited, etc. on my Mac. I just cant get my iPad to see them and sync them. To say the least, this is problematic, I use my iPad show my craftwork photos to clients, and I can't get some newer photos put on the beautiful handheld iPad.More (potential) pieces of the puzzle:
the issues seem more frequent with new photos. Old albums seem stable and transferable
I have done some things like clearing ALL photos off my iPad, restarting it, then moving the albums back on to the iPad using iTunes. Didn't help
iPhoto on my Mac does sometimes exhibit some crankiness. It tends to crash if I choose Info on any photo. Sometimes it loses photos I have imported. Sometimes it duplicates some photos in a folder.
I have tried restarting my Mac, have done disk diagnostics, have zapped PRAM, repaired permissions.... all sorts of things like that
A few weeks ago, I backed up my iPhoto library to another drive, then run a couple of the options in the Rebuild iPhoto Library menu. None of that helped.
I think there may have been a few other anomolies in the last few months, but the ones above are the things I can remember
Any help would be super kind of you. I am a Mac user since the very original 128k 1984 Mac. And I have figured out a lot of minor problems in all those years. This one seems so mysterious and intractable. And is really putting a kink in my use of the iPad.
    Thanks in advance, Peter

didn't try the reboot but when I took my first picture wit the iphone camera then all photos showed up in 'photos' album along with 'camera roll'
