Elements 9 Opening with from Windows Photo Gallery

I have just installed Elements 9 which was an upgrade from my previous Elements 7, which was the successr to 6 which was pre-installed on my laptop.
I have retained Elements 7 as the new install process indicated that it would stay on the system but in effect lie dormant. However my problem now is that when using the 'Open With' command in Windows Photo Gallery it still defaults to PSE7 and not automatically go to 9 which I want. I have tried finding a way to set PSE9 as my default but can't seem to work that. If I delete the PSE7 version on my laptop will that affect my use of 9 as it was an upgrade.
Can any one help perhaps please.
Many thanks
Rob

No need to delete PSE7.
In the Open With dialog click Browse.
Then navigate to the PSE9 folder and select the PSE9 editor.exe file.
That should do it.

  • Moving from Windows Photo Gallery to iPhoto

    Hi there,
I have a couple thousand photos I'll be moving to iPhoto when I move to a Mac, and was wondering if anybody knows a painless way to get the metadata from Windows Photo Gallery in Vista across with them. Obviously I could go through and re-tag them all/album them all manually, but if there's a way of dragging albums, captions etc along with them then it'll be much appreciated.
I've tried getting WPG to sort the folder structure for me and do it that way, but I can't find an option to do that with existing (Only with new imports).
    Thanks guys!

Just select add when you import them and they will be added right in place.  You can use LR to move and rename folders.

  • Why do I get a Fax prompt window when I try to print from Windows Photo Gallery?

Trying to print photos from Windows Photo Gallery.  Print job looks as if it goes to the queue, but does not actually print.  Fax prompt window pops up as if I were preparing to fax.  Do I now have to disable the fax in order to print photos?  I take phone calls and faxes on the same phone line.

1: I am sorry about the inconvinience.
The reason you find a check mark on a printer icon is to indicate that its a default printer. If the fax icon has a check mark, everytime you print a fax template will come up.
SOlution: Just right click on the other icon and select it as the default printer.
2: Black lines while printing photos.
CLick on the link below and check if the solution helps you.

  • I have bridge open, but it opens images in Windows Photo Gallery

I have been trying to open some images, but it won't open them in Photoshop,  If I double click on a raw image it opens it in Windows photo gallery.  I have to right click to get it to go to camera raw, what has happened.

Sorry just assumed you would realise it was PS CC.
It was opening the NEF files in camera raw,but today it stopped and started opening them in that photo gallery, I don't know how to change it back.  I went to prefences in Bridge and it has photo gallery next to the NEF files, but doesn't look like I can change them.

  • How do you import media and metadata from Windows Photo Gallery database?

How do you import videos and photos and their metadata from a Windows Photo Gallery database into the Elements Organizer, especially metadata that is only contained in the Photo Gallery database file (pictures.pd6) and not embedded in the video and photo media files themselves?
And when you import the metadata into Organizer, do you get all of these available elements?
    Ratings
    Tags
    Captions
    People tags
    Geotags
Also, if the media files in Organizer are ever moved to another PC, is there a way to migrate all of the Organizer's metadata with the files to use with another instance of Premiere Elements?

OK.  I think we're getting close to the answer.
The reason I'm asking about this is because for Photo Gallery, media files can NEVER be moved without losing all database metadata.        I'm sorry I didn't know this when I started with Photo Gallery and I think I've learned an important lesson:  Be sure you can move your work BEFORE you start.
So, to clarify Organizer's behavior, let me ask the question another way.  Let's say that in a few years, after I've added tags, people, places, etc. to hundreds of media files in Organizer, I decide to get a new PC.   When I move all that stuff to my new petabyte drive on the new PC, do we know if Premiere Elements Organizer on the new PC would be able to read the original Organizer's metadata?

  • Importing images from windows photo gallery to lightroom 5?

Presently, all of my images are stored on windows photo gallery. I have them organized into folders& subfolders. would the same folders and sub folders be exported into lrm as labeled. I know you do this under import mode  and add from others.   Would it behove me to make sure all of my gallery folders are properly labeled tagged etc. before i do this transfer.    When i do the transfer can i rename the folders,re-tag them etc.  Thanks!!

Just select add when you import them and they will be added right in place.  You can use LR to move and rename folders.

  • Importing from "Windows Photo Gallery"

    New User,
failed to find an answer after 30 minutes of searching the discussion groups. So here goes:
Just got my first Mac and I have successfully imported 18,000 photos which I managed on my windows vista box using "Windows Photo Gallery".
The problem is none of the tags were imported as keywords. Anyone have a clue if this is possible or what I am missing?
    Cheers

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Can you force your Windows app to write those keywords to the IPTC data on the files? If not then I'm afraid you're out of luck.

  • Error :: ODBC Unable To Open Database And Windows Photo Gallery.  How do I fix?

I get an ODBC error when I try to get photos in the organizer of Photoshop 4.  It just started.  What is wrong?

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • I can't email photos from Windows Photo Gallery anymore, it says the host "mozilla firefox" cannot be found. what do I do?

A window pops up and says, "The host "Mozilla Firefox" could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Subject "remove", account; 'pop3', server; 'mozilla firefox', protocol: smtp, port; 25, secure (SSL); no, socket error; 11001, error number; 0x800ccc0d " Tasks" send 36 messages using 'pop3', status failed connection local area network I used to send photos all the time, now they don't get sent. What can I do?

Open the older library with the Finder
and look in the Originals folder to see if the full sized files are present.  If they are you can make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
       2.  delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select last three options.
    Fix #3
Use  iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • The image color in Windows Photo Gallery is wrong, same image in other program color is correct.

This is the correct color form Google Image:
This is the color from Windows Photo Gallery:
It looks like it is a issue of Windows Photo Gallery bcause if the same image is opened in another program(Photoshop, paint, etc), the color stays same, the thumbnail color is correct as well. However, it is different in Windows Photo Gallery.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
    Thanks.

Windows photo gallery is not colour profile aware, so assumes your monitor is sRGB.  The same is true of the desktop wallpaper.  There is nothing you can do about this, other than use a different default picture viewing application as default, or convert your images to the ICC profile of your monitor (which you can do in photoshop).  I would only recommend this for wallpapers though.

  • Transfering Windows Photo Gallery tags to iPhoto

Hi there everyone! I just bought a macbook . I transferred my pictures from my Vista desktop to my new macbook using an external HD. However, the tags from Windows Photo Gallery did not transfer over as keywords into iPhoto . The weird thing is some tags did transfer on a couple of pictures (around 10). Does anybody know any solutions to this?

    SecretPact:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions and in from the Darkside. . If the keywords are written into the IPTC fields in each photo then iPhoto can read them. But they have to be embedded into each file by Windows Photo Gallery. If you can go back to WPG and see if there's an option to write the metadata to the files and do it, you can reimport them and hopefully get the keywords to import. Try it on one or two photo that did not show the keywords first.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can't open jpg from Windows 7 Explorer in newly installed Photoshop Elements 11

Elements opens but the image does not appear in the editor.
Other people have reported similar problems but I cannot find a solution.

I got hit with the same issue ... but found a simple clean answer (after a while):
The "default program" ("recommended program" when you use "open with" in the explorer context) which is associated with a file extension ultimately points to the following command: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer\Photoshop Elements 11.0.exe" "%1", which is the PSE Organiser
This command didn't work for me (not even from the command line does this work, so it's a bug). I guess it gets hung up at the welcome screen in the background
I changed the "default program" / "recommended program" to point directly to the Photoshop Elements Editor.  Then it works as it should.
To do this cleanly, you need to delete the wrong "default program" entry by deleting the relevant entry in the Windows registry for each picture file extension associated with PSE 11:
For example, on WIndows 7 64bit, the relevant registry entry for .cr2 files (Canon raw format) is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.cr2\OpenWi thList
and may have several entries labled a, b, c...., one points to Photoshop Elements 11.0.exe - delete it.
After the clean up, go into WIndows Control Panel, select Default Programs, Associate a file type or protocol with a program and then for the first file extension use "Browse" to find the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe and select it  (mine was at C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11).
Afterwards, you need to do this for each additional file extension you want to link with PSE 11, but you can pick it now from the Recommended Programs list
Since I only use raw and JPEG, I only needed to change this for .cr2 and .jpg - you may need others as well...
If you are not sure which program (Organiser or Editor) is now shown under the "Recommended Progams" list when you use "open with" from Explorer?
    Photoshop Elements Organiser
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11
Adobe Systems, Incoporated     <====== note the comma after Systems
    Photoshop Elements Editor
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11
Adobe Systems Incoporated      <====== note the absence of the comma after Systems
Hope this gets you working more productively....
