  • Premiere Elements project imported into Premiere Pro CS5.5 becomes unusable after first save

I have Premiere Pro CS5.5, and I have been trying for some time to successfuly edit an old project that was originally created in Premiere Elements (not sure which version--probably 7.0). It has the .prel extension. The project imports just fine, and I am able to edit it initially. However, if I save my new Premiere Pro project, close Pr and try to open the new project again, I get the "The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements." error message. I have tried many of the various project recovery suggestions people have made in this forum and elsewhere online, but none of them seem to work. I even opened the project in XML Wrench, but there were no errors returned when I clicked "check is well formed." Once I close the project after doing some initial editing, it is gone. Is this a known issue? Is there any way I can be able to edit the old project in Pr and save my work? Thanks!

Have you tried using the project manager to re-copy all elements and timeline etc into a totally new directory. I'm just curious to see if that would make a difference. I'd be intrested to see if when making a new project in this manor if it would because as you have stated the normal save methods haven't.

  • Maximum File Size of .dv Import File to Premiere Pro CS5?

    Hello Community:
I searched this forum and Google in general, but could not find an absolute limit on the media file size I can import into a Premiere Pro CS5 project.  I'm scheduled to process the ".DV" recording from a conference, which could go on for hours.  I have asked the camera man to break up the recording in one-hour segments, but I'm getting some push-back.
Is there a specific size limitation on importing an NTFS file structure .dv file in Premiere Pro CS5?
    Thanks,
    Rich Locus

Same issue. I previously used  NeoScene to convert .mov files from a Canon 5d mark ii to the easier to edit with Gopro Cineform .avi format in Premiere Pro CC. They used to work fine but now Premiere only recognizes a very small part of the file. The first 18 seconds of an 8 minute file.
I tried importing the file to a new clean scene and the problem remained.
I need to be able to work with this footage. Somehow Premiere is no longer able to properly read clips it used to be able to read.
I would like to hear something from Adobe on this issue.
EDIT: I just updated my GoPro software to 2.0 and the problem was instantly solved. The same might apply to TechSmith.
EDIT 2: Upon rendering the edit I discovered that while the entire length of the clip was represented it in fact stopped playing new frames at the same frame as it had before. So no luck. Updating GoPro Cineform made the length of the file display correctly (7min) but did not actually let me play the file beyond the first 18 seconds - it just showed the same frame.
I deleted all preview files and cleaned Media Cache files (under media/preferences) - this didn't help.
Finally I made the file offline, closed Premiere, changed the file name and re-opened Premiere. Then I right clicked over the file in the Project window and chose replace file to re-connect. The file finally came in correctly. I've now rendered it and it runs through the entire 7 min.

  • Media Files in Premiere Pro CS5.5

I have several large 60GB media video files I will be importing into the project section of Premiere Pro CS5.5   These files are stored on an external hard drive (will be using FW800) where I plan on working with these files from the external HD.   The question I have is, once I import them into the project section of Premiere Pro CS5.5 and start editing with various pieces of video from the project files, will the original media files residing on the external HD be changed or edited in anyway or will they remain the same?   It is my understanding that these files will remain unchanged and that CS5.5 will just use the data from the original files and then once the PP Project is exported, the data will just be copied from the original media and the original media files remain unchanged?  I would appreciate it if someone could confirm this to be ture.   Thank you!

When working from external HDD's, here's a tip: make sure to set the drive letter for that external (on a PC) HDD in the computer's OS, so that it will ALWAYS be the same, everytime that it is plugged in, or turned on, regardless of the order.
The links to those media files are absoute Paths, so if anything in the Path changes, the links will be broken.
    Good luck,

  • CANNOT IMPORT FCP  .XML FILE INTO PREMIERE PRO CS5

    Hi,

I tried  to import the .xml file into premiere CS5 ,it asked for the media files  to relink .whn i linked the .mp4 files it showed the  error messege "The  selected file cannot be linked becouse it has 2 audio channel(s) and  the clip was created with 1 audio channel(s).
then i tried to relink the .mov instead of .mp4 file (which i  used in final cut pro on apple machine)i got  the error "Codec missing  or unavailable"
what should i do???..i almost done all the  editing in final cut pro and i bought the adobe coz i thought i can  finish all the pending FCP projects in Premier Pro..??

What is the CODEC in your MOV file(s)? MOV is but a "wrapper," like AVI. This ARTICLE will give you some background. It could be that you just need the proper CODEC, or it could be that it is a Mac-only CODEC, and then you will need for the producer to Export in another CODEC, that is PC-compatible.
This ARTICLE will give you some background on CODEC's, in general.

  • Options for exporting a project in Adobe premiere Pro CS5.5

When Exporting a project from Adobe premiere Pro CS5.5 I use the format of Windows Media file and Preset HDTV 1080P 30 HighQuality. At the bottom of the window there are some options that say "Use Maximum Render Quality" And "Use Frame Blending". I used these two options on my first video I exported but I want to know for the future what both of these options do exactly to my film and if they could adversely effect things like lighting and the frame rate of a clip or anything?

Max Render Quality does what is says: gives better picture quality, but will lengthen the export process.
Frame Blending you check when output framerate differs from timeline framerate.

  • Importing mov files in premiere pro cs5

I just installed Adobe Creative Suite 5 Master Collection on my machine and now, i have two issues.
    1. I do have the latest quicktime installed but when i try to import *.mov files with audio, only the audio is imported and works fine. the video isn't, but I dont get a dialogue error box.
A). if the *.mov file has only video, i get a file import failure message saying " the file has no audio or video streams".
    2. the next prob is my dymanic linking does not work.
    Help please

Im trying something and I hope you can help me. I have two computers, one dedicated to capturing a event and the other I have is dedicated to playback. They share the hard drive via a network. What I want to know is- is there a way for the dedicated playback machine to access a video file that is still being captured by the capturing machine and play back parts of it in a sequence??

Zone Alarm, eh? I used to use that program, but it got in the way of almost everything that I did, that I canned it completely.
Glad that removing ZA solved your issue.
Personally, I find MOV Animation CODEC to be quite good, and use that for a lot of work. Jeff Bellune, here, like the Photo JPEG format, but I have not explored that.

  • Encoder Options For *.wmv Files re Premiere Pro CS5.5

    Hi,
I have a collection of *.wmv files that Premiere Pro CS5.5 refuses to open and it always generates an error message so I need to re-encode these *.wmv files into a format that Premiere Pro will import OK. I know that Premiere Pro will open *.wmv files so I think that the ones I have must have some data structures slightly out of normal. The files actually play with VLC and open with Sony Vegas so they are not corrupt.
What I hope to do is to use an encoder that will re-encode the files without any loss of video quality into another format or even into a slightly renamed *.wmv file in the hope that the re-encoded version of the *.wmv file will then be palatable to Premiere Pro.
Would anyone please be able to recommend an encoder that is suitable for my needs? On a final point, as a total novice with video, what aspects on re-encoding would cause loss of video quality or is there no loss of quality when re-encoding? Apologies for such a dumb question but I really am a newbie to all this.
    Rgds

If you can get the files open with Vegas, you could probably export them using Lagarith Lossless Video Codec or Ut Video Codec Suite, both of which are lossless AVI codecs that work nicely with Premiere Pro. PPro needs the 64-bit version, but I don't know enough about Vegas to know if you need 32-bit or 64-bit, so just install both. Note that the files will be much larger, but will not suffer any perceptible quality hit.
I'm not sure of any way to do a WMV rewrap--I'll see what I can find.

  • Why AE project files in Premiere Pro Project Manager collection of files?

Am I missing something? I can't seem to find any information as to why a AE project file is collected by Premiere Pro CC 2014. I realize that I I'm using AE Comps within Premiere Pro  (Dynamic Link). I have always wished that Premiere Pro would "collect" any AE projects being used. But apparently Premiere Pro just collect the AE project file...
If I open the AE project file that Premiere Pro "collected" it still has to locate its resources on my machine, and I also now have two copies of the same AE project file. Nothing gained for me. I still have to "collect" the AE project file which creates yet another copy of the same AE project file... I makes no sense to me and I hope I'm missing a step or overlooking something...
Ideally it would nice if PPro would somehow communicate with AE and have AE collect the project and send it over to Premiere Pro to include in its "collection" of resources.
    Am I missing something here?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lou

Discovered another issue. If I'm using multiple AE comps in PPro, PPro generates several AE project files, on for each Comp. If I go back into my PPro collected project file it references those specific AE files. That means I have to collect each of those new AE project files that PPro generated... In addition, PPro won't let me change those references within the PPro collected project file to the original AE project file. What a headache! There has to be another way. Is that the way I'm going to have to collect projects from both PPro and AE now??

  • Audio problems when exporting files from Premiere Pro CS5

I try to post in English.
I have audio problems in Premiere Pro CS5 when exporting a film.
I cut an interview. The sound seems not to be synchronized when exporting a file. It doesn´t matter what file format I export. On cutting points the sound is different to the sound I hear in premiere. In premiere the audio sounds very good but in exported file I hear cracks on cutting points.
When I reimport the audio file an put it in the timeline the synch point is correct but the interview differs about 2 frames to the original audio in premiere.
The material was filmed on Sony ex3. The files are XDCam HD. I have updated the production suite.
    Thanks for answers
    Frieder

Also, make sure that you check the box marked "Export Audio" if you want a MP4 extension.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 Mac - Major Metadata Problems

    Hi...
I am having major problems with the Metadata system in Premiere Pro CS5.5
I have created a custom scheme and added the following property "Key" and set it to have a boolean value (Check Mark)
My Metadata display correctly displays the "Key" property and I can check it. Just like expected.
I will now apply it to the clip(s) in need of that meta property.
In the project column the property is also show correctly...
All good so far but now comes the two major problems
    PROBLEM 1
    1) I have about 300 clips in the project panel
    2) If I click the column header I can sort accordingly
    3) Clicking name or Labels will immediately sort correctly. 1 Second tops.
    4) If I click the column header of my custom propert "Key" I get the SWOD and it takes about 120 seconds for Premiere to sort adhering to the Key Column.
2 minutes for that is a VERY long time compared to sorting by name...
Could this be a bug or am I doing something wrong...
    PROBLEM 2
In the project panel's search field I will enter "Key" but nothing will appear... At least that is what I thought.
It took more than ONE HOUR for Premiere's search results to be able to identify that a clip had gotten that property checked. (Clicking the Clip immediately reflects that it has been checked)
I even timed it. Ckecked the Key property for 4 new clips which did not have the meta applied to them.
In the search field I entered 'Key" but only the clip which had had the Key meta tagged since 1 hour would appear.
I waited another hour and now those very 4 clips also appear in the search field. The same goes for the "Good" meta boolean which is NOT a custom field.
I saved the project in between quit Premiere and re-launched but THAT did NOT help PPRO find that Property in the search field.
As I said, it takes about 1 hour for Premiere to be able to included those metadata in the search results.
Funny thing is, if I enter 'true' which is the boolean text-string for a checked property the results appear immediately. But there is NOT much use in having ALL boolean fields appear that are checked.
I welcome that adobe implemented metadata across their apps but ELEGANT is something entirely different.
Could anyone shed some light on this ?
    Thanks

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for Mac problem

I have recently bought Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 as an upgrade (for Mac) and after I enter the serial number during installation it asks me for a serial number of a qualifying product, listing three: Premiere Elements 4, 7 or 8. I only have Premiere Elements 9. I would be happy to buy the aforementioned products except several sources suggest that PE8 was never produced for Mac. Any ideas of what I can do?

Return it. CS5 has not been sold for more than 1 year. Instead get CS6.

  • How to manage media cache files in Premiere Pro CS5.5?

I hope my question is not too complicated but I still haven't figured this one out.
    Here goes:
Whenever I open a project in Premiere Pro, the media cache files used are always the same ones from a prior project.
For example, if I open project ABC, the scratch disk used, the media cache and media cache files are from the ABC project file.
Then, if I open another document, XYZ, the scratch disk and the media cache files are again stored in the ABC project file.
HOW DO I CHANGE THE SETTINGS SO THE SCRATCH DISK AND MEDIA CACHE ARE THE ONES SPECIFIC TO THE PARTICULAR PROJECT I OPEN?
So I don't have to move all the cache files manually or change the settings in Premiere every time I open a project.
Sorry for the long description. Thanks for your help. Daniel Martel. Quebec. Canada.

You can't (unless you want to store them next to the originals, a proposition I find untenable).  Some of the scratch disk settings are stored at the project level (things like video and audio previews), but the one's you're talking about are global - one setting for the whole program.
I don't like that arrangement myself.  ALL scratch disks should be stored per project.
