Elements 9 slowing down

I upgraded to 9  from 4 and now PSE 9 is really slow, when this happened in 4 it meant I had to empty the back up memory, I can't find how to do this in PSE 9, if the backup file is automatically emptied on closing as I have been told it does, why is the response time so impossibly slow, everything is slow, if I try  to crop I move the mouse go pick up a coffee from the bench stand and wait then the box shows up, it is really slow.
any help at all thank you

I upgraded from 6 to 9.  The Editor is ok for speed but the Organizer is agonizingly slow.  It is beyond agonizing - it is excruciating.   I have a large catalog but that shouldn't matter?  It is  virtually unusable.  I was asked to find 10 photos for a friend - it took 2 and 1/2 hours to find and resize to send via e-mail.   I am running Windows Vista.  3 G RAM.  Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 2.0 GHz.  I need some help!

  • Elements 12.1 Organizer slow and locks up.  Slows down my entire iMac.

    I have an iMac running OS X 10.9.2 and have downloaded the update of Elements 12.1 and also shut off all of the media analysis functions and organizer runs so slow it is ridiculous.  It takes 10 minutes to move one file from one folder to another.  It also slows down everything on my iMac to a crawl.  Hard drive sounds like it is running continuously and the the spinning rainbow of death when doing very basic functions.  I've had to go back to an old Bridge software until this can be fixed.  I would return the whole thing since 12 doesn't seem to add much to my old version 8 in functionality and there are a lot of poorly place UI issues in expert mode.  I'd like to use the software, but it doesn't seem to work.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Please try repairing and optimize your catalog.
    You can do this by: File > Manage Catalogs. Here you can both the options.

  • Slowing down a 60p video to 24p in Premiere Elements

    Hello Fellow Forum Members,
    I am
    evaluating Premiere Elements and I have quick question.
    Is it possible to slow down a 60p HD video to 24p or 30p in Adobe Premiere Elements?
    Thank You,
    Miki

    Miki
    Thanks for the follow up. We will be watching for your progress.
    If you have not seen it before, the following is an Adobe TV video tutorial on using the Premiere Elements 11 Time Remapping feature.
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-premiere-elements-11/time-remapping-with-adobe-premiere-el ements-11/
    Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions on your Premiere Elements workflow. Your evaluation of the program before purchase sounds like a good idea. Keep in mind that a new version of the program is expected to be released soon. After it is released, Adobe discontinues offering the version 11 tryout and offers only the tryout for the new version/current version.

  • Picture Indicator slows down front panel

    Hello folks,
    I would like to use the picture functions vi's to draw alot of dots on a bitmap.
    Problem is, that after a certain amount of dots (>10k) the vi starts to slow down if I show the indicator of the picture.
    However when I use a picture to pixmap and then redraw the picture from the pixmap the front panel indicator doesn't slow down the vi at all.
    I would be very grateful for a more elegant solution to this problem other than redrawing the picture from a pixmap.
    Best regards,
    Mark

    Mark,
    When the image has more datapoints than the image has pixels or when the new image overlaps part of the old image, things can slow down.
    But I suspect that the real problem is the re-allocation of memory as the picture string grows.  Open the Draw Point.vi and Set Pen State.vi block diagrams and you will see that each of them does a Concatenate String operation.  Strings are stored in memory as a 4-byte length and an array of characters. Like any other array, the string elements must be in contiguous memory locations. So, as the string grows, frequent memory re-allocations must occur.  This can slow things dramatically.  The way those picture VIs are built there is no way to effectively pre-allocate the memory.
    I do not know how effective it might be, but you could rewrite those VIs to use arrays of U8, Initialize Array, and Replace Array Subset, followed by Byte Array to String.  Then only one memory allocation wold be required.

  • Dropping Wireless Connection & Speed Slowing Down

    Hi,
    Up until a week ago I had two BT lines, I will call them line 1 and line 2.  Line 1 (front room) was used purely for phone calls, and line 2 (middle room) had Broadband activated on it. When it came time to renew the yearly line rental I checked and had it confirmed by BT that the available Broadband speed was faster on line 1, so I decided to cancel line 2, and move my Home Hub 4 into room 1 having arranged to activate Broadband on what in theory should be a line that gives a better speed.
    My current problem is two-fold. Firstly I am not yet getting the line speed that I was expecting. I have spoken to the Technical Help Line, and understand that following the activation of Broadband on the line in Room 1 I should wait 10 days for the available speed to stabalise. Currently I am 7 days on from line activation.
    A few days ago I was getting download speeds around 2.70 Mbps, with upload speeds around 0.38 Mbps. The IP profile for the download speed at that time was set at 2.77 Mbps. The IP profile for the upload speed was set at 0.45 Mbps. Over the past week I have done numerous speed checks and found that the speed did vary, as might be expected, but was generally always around these figures. Because of the line check speeds I was given by BT's own staff I was expecting the available speed to get better, not slow down! I was originally advised to expect line speeds of between 3.5 Mbps - 5.5 Mbps.
    Over the last 24 - 36 hours the speed has slowed down, and a few minutes ago these are the figures I observed:
    Download speed achieved during the test was - 1.3 Mbps
     For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.8 Mbps-2 Mbps.
     IP Profile for your line is - 1.33 Mbps
    Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.34Mbps
    Additional Information:
    Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.45 Mbps
    Line speed then is one issue, but there is another.
    My second, presently very frustrating problem is that even though the Hub 4 is consistently powered, and maintains a steady Blue light showing that Broadband is available, my wireless connection that I receive from the Hub keeps dropping. I should add that the distance from the Hub 4 in Room 1 to where I work with my laptop in Room 2 is only about 15 - 20 feet. I used the old Hub 2 until a few weeks ago, and neither my daughter on her laptop, or myself, had any problems with 'dropping' the wireless signal, whichever room we were in, or even if we used our respective laptops elsewhere in the house. I was convinced enough by the publicity 'blurb' to believe that Hub 4 was more reliable, with fewer drop-outs. So far this has not proven to be the case.
    I know that I need to wait a few days more till the 10 days are up, but would really appreciate some kind soul commenting on the above. I have looked at the Logs, but without knowing what segment would be helpful in aiding a diagnosis of my two issues I didn't want to provide unnecessary information. So if any particular element of the Logs would be useful, please let me know.
    Yours in hope,
    Alan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello again,
    With your help I was able to locate the place to change the channel manually, which I did, thanks for that. It only resulted in a marginal improvement, but any improvement is good I guess.
    HH4 has now been showing a steady connection for three + days, so, as requested, here are the noise stats:
    16:14:16, 26 Nov.    ( 76.170000) DSL noise margin: 22.00 dB upstream, 12.20 dB downstream
    16:14:16, 26 Nov.    ( 76.080000) DSL line rate: 448 Kbps upstream, 3104 Kbps downstream
    I have done several speed tests and they all show broadly similar results, namely that my download speed is usually around 2.67, whereas my IP Profile is set at 2.74.
    I don't know whether this is worth mentioning but I only have an old style BT socket on my line, not one that has a test socket inside, so I can't do any of the tests using that facility.
    Although my broadband connection has been stable and active on the HH4, as far as using wireless to connect my laptop in another room I do still get several dropped connections each day.
    Even when I am connected to my HH4 by wireless, and my signal, as now, is only in the four bar bracket, by looking at the other Networks that are active in my street/area I can see, although it is rightly secured, that someone is using a HH3 and the signal on that is powerful enough to register a full five bar (excellent) strength on my laptop. How near or far away from me that user with a HH3 is I do not know, the point is however I can receive a more powerful and consistent signal from their Hub than my own. I must confess to being puzzled by that. What could be the reason?
    Is there any further help or guidance that you can give that might assist in raising my IP profile, in the hope that my speed might increase? Or do you have any further suggestions as to how I might reduce the noise on my line to a more acceptable amount, so that my signal might give me a better wireless connection?
    Thanks again for any advice or help you are able to give.
    Regards,
    Alan

  • Yes it's another Mavericks slowing down my laptop thread :)

    Hi there
    I recently installed Mavericks, just before Xmas in fact, and noticed how slow it was from the start. Now I'm back at work, it's killing me!
    First off, I had lots of problems with Mail, and something to do with Keychain (forgive me, laptop is a tool, I don't really understand how it works). I managed to get that working, although, I must say it still is slow at collecting mail from my various accounts.
    Word, well that's just hysterical. I can sit and type a few lines, sit back and watch Word catch up with me over a minute or so, then have to go back and correct my terrible typing, it's painful and un-usable. I have noted on here to rebuild my Office Database, which I've done, and it appeared to have no problems.
    So what to do? I heard about EtreCheck so have run that and will paste results below, I'm hoping that someone will spot something there that is really obvious and return me to fact Mac nirvana.
    I'm on a 2011 MacBook Pro, 2.8ghz Intel Core i7, 4GB RAM. i don't have lots of 3rd party stuff installed, but do run Photoshop, Quark, Office and a few other apps.
    Here's hoping for help, and thanks in advance!
    Jonny

    Your memory usage is fine. Its green.  Read this:
    About memory management in OSX 10.9 Mavericks
    Memory is managed differently, and more efficiently in 10.9.  It is (mostly) unique in the industry, but may become trend.
    Let’s start with the basics.  Mechanical disk drives are very slow, with access speeds in the 10s of milliseconds and transfer rates in the 200-400 Mbps range real world.  SSDs are much faster, on the order of a couple of ms access and typically 1200-3000 mbps transfer rates.  RAM is much faster than either, in the nanosecond access and transfer speeds of ~8 Gbps effective (1 GHz x 8 bits/byte).
    These are rough numbers for comparison purposes only.
    So the goal is to keep as much in RAM as possible. But if you run out of RAM what do you do?
    Traditionally you take the least used RAM and write it to a special part of the disk, in a way that you can access it most efficiently - minimizing the disk delays.  This is called a swap file because you swap RAM in and out of it.
    10.9 has a new trick:  it compresses RAM using the main processors.  Rather than swapping stuff to disk (disks are slow), it actually uses the processor to compress memory and make, for example, 1 GB of physical RAM hold as much as 1.5GB.  Similar approaches are used to make MP3 files 10x smaller than the real thing - there is redundancy in data and you can take advantage of that.  Apple is making the following calculation: the processors can compress way faster than the disk can swap.  And its also predicting that the processors are often partly idle - waiting for swap files or disk access.  So rather than swap files around, its compresses the files ***in RAM***.
    Compression works,.  Tests show that on average it is faster, and that 4GB (i have 4 GB RAM) acts like 5 1/2 - 6GB.  Wow.
    So, 10.9 will load up most of your RAM, knowing that it can compress some when it needs to.  So don’t worry too much that it may look like all your RAM is taken - yea, it is, but its OK.
    The measures to look at are:
    1. amount compressed. Compression means it has run out of RAM and needs more. As long as compression is low this is fine. In fact this is how 10.9 uses RAM more efficiently than 10.6,7 or 8.  Contrary to common wisdom, it requires LESS RAM than 10.8. The colored indicator tells you who this is going - green (good), yellow( iffy) and red (bad).
    2. amount swapped.  Once it cannot compress any further, or can’t do so efficiently, jot begins old-fashioned swapping.  This is a major slow-down and means you would benefit from more RAM. Tiny amounts are OK.
    here's an article by Apple - but on th pre-10.9 memory management techniques....mostly still true, but read on.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1342?viewlocale=en_US
    Bottom line - compression makes 10.9 use RAM more efficiently than previous OSX versions.  It also makes the “ram used” indicator less meaningful, and mans you should monitor “compression” .
    That said, RAM has always been one of the most cost effective upgrades possible.  People spend too much on new machines and too little on more RAM.
    Hope this helps,
    Grant

  • Scan slows down with each increment of loop

    Hi
    I am using labview to raster scan a piezo stage and collect fluorescence. To do the scanning, I have an X loop and a Y loop. Each iteration of the loop steps a voltage which is output (using DAQmx assistant) through a PCI 6229. It's very bizarre because the scan rate starts very fast (I monitor by probing the X) but subtly slows down after each iteration. When I stop the application and restart (without exiting labview) it remains slow and even gets slower. When I exit Labview and restart the program, it begins fast again, and then slows down. Any ideas??

    A very inefficient programming method is your use of "insert into array" to append new data, especially since you insert a column at a time. The way the data is linearly arranged in memory, replacing a column requires rewriting of the entire array every time because the new elements are not consecutive in memory.
    (I would think that appending a row at a time would be slightly more efficient, because they would be written consecutively, and at the end of the array in your case. This would be identical to a simple "built array" node).
    Still, all these methods cause a resizing operation of the array, always an expensive condition that should be avoided.
    Preallocating a fixed size array, then replacing rowns as you go is the most efficient. The array memory is allocated once.
    You should update your graph as little as practical, so definitely not a pixel at a time. A row at a time is probably OK but if the loop rate is very fast, you could even put the graph in a case structure and update only every 10th iteration.

  • Program slow down / problem of memory optimization

    hi all,
    Here is my problem. I am using Labview 2011 and a NI acquisition board. In attachment are simplified VI codes I implemented to acquire analog signal and process the data. The main_VI.vi starts the RUN VI that performs data acquisition and data processing. In the RUN VI, I implemented a state machine because there are many sequential steps. The acquisition is done many times (see max iteration value) and for each acquisition, there is a processing. I used a queue structure to send data for processing in parallel. I also use a in-place element structure to manage the array.
    For real data acquisition (from NI board), the program slows down after hundreds of iteration and when I exit the program, it seems the VI has to free memory because it takes few minutes to close the VI.
    My questions are:
    -       Is the state machine structure properly implemented?
    -       Is the queue strategy optimal to do parallel processing?
    -       Is the use of in-place element structure properly implemented in my case, and is it needed for 1D array with a size of 4000 to 20000 points?
    Thank you for your help/suggestions.

    I noticed that in your "RUN.vi" you are calling the "acquisitions_data.vi" iteratively in a For Loop.  Everytime that For Loop iterates, you are creating the Task, running the acquisition, then closing the Task.  You don't need to create and clear the Task over and over again like that.  Instead, create and configure the Task outside of the for loop.  This way when you get inside the for loop, use the "DAQmx Start Task.vi" to start the task, perform the read using the "DAQmx Read.vi", then use the "DAQmx Stop Task.vi" to stop it.  Outside the for loop you can place the "DAQmx Clear task.vi" to clear the references.
    Perhaps this will help with your performance.

  • Dreamweaver CS5.5 Slow down when minimising and loading pages.

    Hi there
    I'm having a really strange problem with Dreamweaver CS5.5
    I'm currently in the process of building a CMS for a client and I am experience slow down in Dreamwever when opening and closing certain pages, it also causes slow down/hanging when opening and minimising Dreamweaver itself if these certain pages are open at the time. Which starts to get very annoying when you're swapping between Photoshop and Dreamweaver all the time...
    I narrowed it down to a CSS file causing the slow down/hanging. This being the main stylesheet for the CMS... admin.css
    When I comment out the CSS file Dreamweaver minimises and maximises quickly, and the page in question opens fast.
    The stylesheet is about 900 lines long at the moment, but I've got php and javascript files (and also other CSS files) which are much longer and none of them cause slow down/hanging.
    I've looked myself but from what I can see all of the CSS is valid.
    Any ideas guys?
    Thanks in advance

    I can't explain this at all, but I've solved it.
    I changed the style below:
    @media only screen and (min-width: 35em) {
    .ir { display: block; border: 0; text-indent: -999em; overflow: hidden; background-color: transparent; background-repeat: no-repeat; text-align: left; direction: ltr; *line-height: 0; }
    .ir br { display: none; }
    .hidden { display: none !important; visibility: hidden; }
    .visuallyhidden { border: 0; clip: rect(0 0 0 0); height: 1px; margin: -1px; overflow: hidden; padding: 0; position: absolute; width: 1px; }
    .visuallyhidden.focusable:active, .visuallyhidden.focusable:focus { clip: auto; height: auto; margin: 0; overflow: visible; position: static; width: auto; }
    .invisible { visibility: hidden; }
    /* Clear Floated Elements + Fix */
    .clear {clear:both; display:block; overflow:hidden; visibility:hidden; width:0; height:0;}
    .clearfix:before,.clearfix:after{content: '.'; display: block; overflow: hidden; visibility: hidden; font-size: 0; line-height: 0; width: 0; height: 0;}
    .clearfix:after {clear: both;}
    .clearfix {zoom: 1;}
    /*END DONT CHANGE*/
    To this:
    @media only screen and (min-width: 35em) {
    .ir { display: block; border: 0; text-indent: -999em; overflow: hidden; background-color: transparent; background-repeat: no-repeat; text-align: left; direction: ltr; *line-height: 0; }
    .ir br { display: none; }
    .hidden { display: none !important; visibility: hidden; }
    .visuallyhidden { border: 0; clip: rect(0 0 0 0); height: 1px; margin: -1px; overflow: hidden; padding: 0; position: absolute; width: 1px; }
    .visuallyhidden.focusable:active, .visuallyhidden.focusable:focus { clip: auto; height: auto; margin: 0; overflow: visible; position: static; width: auto; }
    .invisible { visibility: hidden; }
    /* Clear Floated Elements + Fix */
    .clear {clear:both; display:block; overflow:hidden; visibility:hidden; width:0; height:0;}
    .clearfix:before,.clearfix:after{content: '.'; display: block; overflow: hidden; visibility: hidden; font-size: 0; line-height: 0; width: 0; height: 0;}
    .clearfix:after {clear: both;}
    .clearfix {zoom: 1;}
    /*END DONT CHANGE*/
    Moved it outside of the media query. It was put there by mistake by the looks of it.

  • Open ports slow down my internet connection. How to close them? What to do?

    My MacBook Pro has massive problems with internet connectivity. At times the connection is blazingly fast, at times unbelievably slow.
    I've spoken to my internet provider who was able to inform me that my computer opens up 500-700 ports which is probably what's slowing down the network connectivity. When I'm online with the MacBook Pro, the web gets unstable – also for other connected devices like iPad etc.
    The web supporter asked me to run an anti-virus scan which I did – with no results. The problem persists. When my MacBook Pro is not online, there are approximately 15 ports open, when I log on the web that number increases to between 500 and 700.
    Is this normal?
    Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue?
    How do I figure out which application opens these ports? (and how to close them?)
    I tried logging into another user account on the computer and the problem seemed to disappear, indicating that it is caused by something run only on my user account.
    Hope someone can help me..

    Open ports don't slow down your computer. The tech support person you spoke to doesn't know what they are talking about.
    Basically, when you are using a web browser, opening a page means that the browser needs to open a connection for each element in the page (e.g., it needs to grab each picture, CSS, and JavaScript file that the page requires). This could be a couple of dozen, or it could be hundreds (and there's no telling what Flash content on the page will do). The browser tries to mitigate things a bit using a cache (you might check to make sure the cache is turned on, but this is the default setting). However, this is how all browsers work and how the whole system is designed to operate. You cannot "close" any ports, and they don't linger open, they remain open only as long as data is being transferred. This is expected and appropriate behavior.
    The most likely culprit is that you are receiving poor DNS service from your service provider. Every time the computer sees an address like 'http://www.google.com', it needs to send out a request to figure out what numerical address goes with the human-readable name. If the DNS service your system is assigned to use doesn't respond lightning-quick, your experience is going to be very sluggish.
    You might want to add an external DNS service to your list of DNS providers. Go to System Preferences > Network, select the network you are using on the left (Ethernet or AirPort), and click the 'Advanced' button. Click on the 'DNS' tab, then press the '+' button under the left panel. I would add the OpenDNS.com DNS servers. Add the following DNS addresses:
    {quote}
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    {quote}
    Click the 'OK' button. And then the 'Apply' button to save the changes.
    That will probably fix the problem. If it doesn't the next most likely issue is either network congestion (e.g., your ISP's network is just too busy; a very common thing for small ISPs and cable Internet service), or the remote site that you are trying to contact is simply not performing so well.

  • Help! Flashvars causing browser slow down

    Hi All,
    I have a very simple .swf file that is causing some kind of
    slow down or memory leak. It is effecting the browser its self as
    moving the mouse cursor around or selecting text becomes sluggish.
    Within the .swf, the stage is only 1px by 1px. It is meant to
    fit the size of the html element its embedded in. Once the .swf
    loads it adjusts its stage to the new dimensions. It then draws a
    rectangle movie clip to fit the new size.
    Once the rectangle is drawn the .swf then draws 50 circles of
    varying size to animate as a snow effect. I wasn't having any slow
    down until I added this snow effect in. However let me explain in
    the next paragraph that the snow is not the real culprit.
    The rectangles fill, stroke, and corner radius. Can all be
    set by variables sent to the swf. by the Flashvars attribute of
    object, and embed. Once they are retrieved by the .swf they are
    processed by a conditional statement I wrote. If one of the
    attributes isn't set they are set to a default. The code is
    attached below.
    Heres how I know the snow effect isn't the culprit. If I
    don't pass the .swf any Flashvars attribute and just let it use the
    defaults for styleObj in the .swf. The effect runs fine. If I do
    try to pass it Flashvars the slow down occurs. Is there an issue
    with my conditional statements?
    I have tried embedding using the SwfObject.js Class and using
    standard HTML tags. Both display the same issue if Flashvars are
    passed there's a slowdown if not its fine.
    If anyone could help with this, or shoot me some links with
    info I would be eternally grateful. I can also provide the source
    files if you want to take a look at it.
    I have uploaded a test page so you can see the problem in
    http://www.callmekev.com/client/test/

    Hey kglad,
    Thanks for all your help. I had the issue posted on 2 other
    forums and you are the only response I have got. I was unaware of
    the data-type functions you had listed. After some further testing
    I found that they had the same effect as using the - operator like
    I had been doing.
    I did find a solution however. I took the variables as they
    were coming in from the Flashvars attribute and saved them in new
    flash only variables as numbers. Then I assigned the Flashvars
    variables a value of null. I think the .swf was continully going
    back to the html variables causing the slow down and this gave it
    its on set to look at.
    You can check the new
    test its a lot smoother.

  • Preflight check in CS5 dramatically slows down file opening

    The preflight check option in InDesign does not seem to run in the background. As a result, it now takes around 5 times longer to open a file, as you have to wait for the preflight check to finish before you can do anything. Sure you can turn it off, but that kind of defeats the point of having it. Is there any way to configure it so that it runs in the background, or is this just another feature that is basically rendered unusable?

    What I am seeing is this: I open an InDesign file. The spread appears and all the objects placed on that layout appear, just as usual. Then I get the spinning beachball, which coincides with the preflight checking the file (you can see the word "checking" in the bottom left of the frame). The beachball stops and I can finally access the file once the preflight chack is complete. So, on that basis, it doesn't seem to be running in the background. Turning preflight off eliminates the problem. So yes, the file is open and visible, but I can't get at it until the preflight check is complete.
    For reference, I am using OS 10.6.6 and InDesign 7.0.4.550.
    Note that using the Basic preflight check, I don't get these problems, but using a custom profile, I do. I started trying to see if I could pinpoint what in the extra checks was causing the problem, but I failed: I took the basic profile, which works fine, and added the first extra check from my custom profile, which is to Check OPI Links in LINKS. I immediately got the slow down. But unchecking that in my custom profile, didn't speed things up, which suggests that it's more than one thing. If it helps, my custom profile is cheking for:
    LINKS
    Links missing or modfied
    Inaccessible URLs
    OPI Links
    COLOUR
    Transparency blending space
    Colour spaces not alowed

  • Why does my AI acquisition slow down to my frequency measurement rate?

    I'm using Labview/Daqmx to program my SCXI 1520 and TC modules while at the same time using the multifunction capabilities of the E-card controlling the SCXI.  This has been fairly easy until I wanted to use the frequency and counter measurements (outputs/DIO works great).  I'm using a waveform with buffered acquisition for the read on the AI channels and obviously there is no waveform for the frequency measurement so I'm just combining the signals using the dynamic data.  This works great when my input frequency is higher than my acquisition frequency.  When my input frequency is lower than my acquisition frequency the acquisition slows down to that frequency and the AI read falls behind (buffer fills while waiting for another frequency measurement).  I'm assuming the frequency read is not keeping up with AI read.  I understand that as the frequency is reduced it takes more time to calculate the frequency.  So how do I "read" the frequency measurement at the same rate as the AI data?  I'm fine with using the last frequency measurement until a new frequency measurement is available but I can't even seem to be able to do that.
    An example of the problem is measurement of vehicle pedal force (AI channel) with pulse input for vehicle speed.  Assuming 100 Hz acquisition and the vehicle stopped or going slow (very slow pulse train) I should be able to acquire data at 100 Hz even if I just use the last data point for the frequency channel until another point is available.
    Please help, thanks.

    Basically, the very fact that you're *doing* a frequency read suggests that you don't know the expected freq ahead of time, and probably suggests that it can vary.  The waveform datatype assumes a constant interval between samples which wouldn't generally be true for frequency measurement, and that's why you can't use it.  Since the actual timestamps of the frequency measurements are NOT the same as those in the analog waveform, it's likely a mistake to pretend they are.
    My method is to create my own array of "timestamps" for the frequency data.  Create a For loop with a shift register initialized to 0 from outside the loop.  Let your freq array auto-index the loop.  On each element, perform (1/x).  Add result to the left-hand shift register value and write it to both the right-hand shift register and to an auto-indexing output.  When the loop completes, the output array will hold timestamps that correlate to your freq measurements.  From there you can choose whether to display on an X-Y Graph, or whether to perform some interpolations to calculate freqs at the analog sample times or vice versa.

  • Not slowing down

    I have a simple little program which records when a mouse was clicked. However when the vectors become too large, the timing system slows down.
    Is there any way to keep the timer and the data recording seperate??
    Here is my code:
    class mtest extends JFrame implements ActionListener, MouseListener{
         Ticker t;
         int time, cumdist;
         Vector hist, timev;
         JButton start, stop, reset;

              This constructor is passed a delay and a listener.
         public Ticker(int theDelay, ActionListener a) {
              al = a;
              delay = theDelay;
              t = new Thread(this);
              t.start();
              isTicking = false;
              This constructor is only passed a delay - addActionListener must be
              called subsequently.
         public Ticker(int theDelay) {
              delay = theDelay;
              t = new Thread(this);
              t.start();
              isTicking = false;
              When the Ticker is created, an ActionListener may have already been specified
              depending on which constructor was used.  If no ActionListener has been specified
              then this method must be called.  Only one ActionListener can be registered
              with this Ticker object.
              @param a the ActionListener
         public void addActionListener(ActionListener a) {
              if (al == null) {
                   al = a;
              else {

              Returns true if the ticker is currently ticking, and false otherwise

              return isTicking;
              Starts the ticker ticking
         public void start() {
              isTicking = true;
              Stops the ticker ticking
         public void stop() {
              isTicking = false;
              The initial delay for the Ticker must already have been specified in the
              constructor - this method allows the delay to be changed.
         public void setDelay(int newDelay) {
              delay = newDelay;
              This method returns the current delay (in milliseconds)
         public int getDelay() {
              return delay;
              This is the method which is called at regular intervals.  It simply calls the
              actionPerformed() method of the registered ActionListener
         private void fireActionPerformed() {
              if ((al == null) || (!isTicking))
                   return;
              ActionEvent e = new ActionEvent(this, 0, null);
              ((ActionListener)al).actionPerformed(e);
              The run() method of the thread just waits a certain length of time and then
              fires off an ActionEvent to the registered Listener.
         public void run() {
              for (;;) {
                   fireActionPerformed();
                   try {
                        Thread.sleep(delay);
                   catch (InterruptedException e) {
                        System.out.println("WARNING: Ticker thread interrupted.");
    } Thanks for any help

    Hi!
    I m not quite sure this is the right answer to your problem..but here's an idea: maybe the slowing down comes from the fact that each time you add an element to one of your vectors, you have to increase their capacity by one unit(because if im not wrong, u created them with something like theVector=new Vector(0,1)), and this might be time consuming if the vector is big.
    If you think this could be the problem, try this:
    Let's say you noticed that your program slow down after about 500 clicks. Change your program by creating your vectors this way:
    theVector=new Vector(500). Maybe this will get things a little better. Goodluck.

  • Render times of certain project slow down

    Hi,
    i have a certain tv-promo-project where i have to render several comps which all include the same amount of text and just a hand full of additional graphic elements, e.g. a lensflare and a glowing line which separats the text blocks.
    The text of the specific promo-comps are read out of a "main text comp" by expressions. The expression is as follows:
    txt = comp("Master Textkomposition").layer("Textebene").text.sourceText;
    txt.split("\r")[0]
    The rendertimes of the project are constantly slowing down as the render queue and the process goes on. The first comp takes about 8 Minutes to render (it is only 10 sec long) and the second already 20 min, where the third comp reaches like 2 hours of render time.
    I also recognized that even the preview in the timeline is really slow, although the used effects are usually not that performance heavy.
    My System specs:
    After Effects CS6 11.0.4.2
    Mac Pro 5,1
    Processor       2 x 2,93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    RAM                24 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC
    Graphic          NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB
    Software         OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
    Drive c:           500 GB SSD (Apps & Disk Cache)
    Drive d:           2 TB HDD (Project & Source Media)
    Drive e:           1 TB HDD (Render & Media Cache)
    Does anybody have a clue what this problem could be about?
    Any help is appreciated
