Elements 9 won't import RAW (NEF) files

Tried importing files from memory card with pics taken in both JPEG and RAW.  Imported JPEG's but not the RAW pics.  It has accepted RAW files before.  First time using Nikon D800 camera.  Any solutions?
Thanks.

PSE 9 cannot make use of Nikon D800 RAW files.
You have 3 options, two of them are free
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, version 7.4. This will convert your RAWs to DNG, which will open in PSE9
Use the Nikon software that came with your camera, convert the photos to TIF, which can be used in PSE9
Purchase PSE11

Photoshop Elements 9 won't import the NEF fiels from my new Nikon D800.

Yes, the camera is too new for PSE9. You will have to either:
    Upgrade to PSE11
Download the free Adobe DNG Converter Version 7.3 and use that to convert your NEFs to DNGs, and then PSE9 will be able to import them
Use the Nikon software to convert the file to TIF, then import into PSE.

  • Elements 11 won't import my NEF files

I"ll tried directly importing files as NEF and I've converting them to DNG usuing Adobe converter and still the error message says doesn't recognize files.  Help.  Frustrating.

You don't say which camera model, but have you gone to Help>Updates in the editor to update ACR to 7.3?

  • My Elements 9 does not recognise Raw NEF files created by my newNikon d 800.

I would be grateful if you could send me the relevant updaste so that my Elements 9 Package cn recognise RAW NEF files created by my new Nikon D 800

Unfortunately, nobody can send the relevant update since the D800 requires a more recent version of ACR than will work in PSE 9.
    You have three options:
    1. Use the Nikon software to convert the files and then use PSE for any additional editing to the converted images.
    2. Upgrade to PSE 11.
    3. Download the free adobe DNG converter and use that to convert your NEFs to a format that your version of ACR can understand:

  • Elements 6.0 won't open RAW *nef files from Nikon D40 - help!

I tried to open *nef files from a D40.  Even though I selected RAW files in the open file menu, AE6 gives me an error message and won't open the files.
How can I get these files to open with AE6?

Hmm, that usually indicates that you need to get a newer version of the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in.  But according to this tech note:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407111.html
the D40 needs at least ACR 3.7.   PSE 6 ships with 4.2, so you should be able to open them.
I suggest following the troubleshooting steps in this tech note, which will likely have you update your ACR:

  • Why is iPhoto (Mountain Lion) importing RAW/NEF files as jpeg's?

I am manually importing via DVD's my archived iPhoto files from  iPhoto '08, (7.1.5), Snow Leopard, to my new computer running Mountain Lion. iPhoto '11 (9.4.3). Most of my files are in RAW format (NEF) and was saved as such. I am noticing that as I import from the discs into the new iPhoto, it is importing some as jpeg's and I am loosing my RAW data. I am findiing very little being imported as RAW.
Has anyone else had this experience?
Is there somewhere in the settings that I am not finding, to correct this? I checked all that I know to look at and I did not find anywhere an option to change the format of the image in importing.
I, also, converted files from jpeg to.tiff and saved them as such, but I am not finding any .tiff files either.
    Any info?
Thank you for any help you can give.

    OK.  WOW!
One by one!  Larry, Terence and Old Toad,
Thank you, all of you, for your helpful replies.
Firstly, I am a little confused between Larry and Terence; sounds like opposite info. Is it?
Old Toad, Now I know about this easy way to do this. I have, at least, 1T+20,000 more images, some of which I will import into my new 750 gig Macbook Pro, so this seems easy. (Already over 30,000 images. Can iPhoto hold so much???)
It seems tho, that I AM BUSTED!
Unfortunatelly, I could not import directly the old Library to the new Library because of the below reason. (even tho there seems to be some difference of opinion on this between Terence and Larry)
I did the unthinkable. I worked out of the iPhoto Library.
What I did was this: my older Macbook Pro, had a 200 gig HDD, and could NOT handle all the photos I was putting into it (which I needed to do the work I want to do), so I first downloaded the images from my camera to iPhoto, then, I downloaded,as I went along, by year, to external HDD, and then I cut DVD's, by year, in pieces, via Toast, as my backup. (both, directly from the iPhoto Library), Then, I deleted many of the photos in each event, in each year, leaving only enough to remind me what is in that event.
(Then, when I needed images from that event, I could go back to the HDD to see and get the rest of the pix I needed to use).
I KNOW this is totally SACRELIGIOUS of Mac and the whole iPhoto Library set-up, but it didn't hurt the library functioning, (in the old mac), at all, and was the only way I knew to do it, as going thru iPhoto itself, didn't work out so well.
(That is why I didn't import directly my old library to the new Mac, not all the photos were there, and I thought it would be more confusing trying to add the missing photos to each event in the new iPhoto).
However, re-importing from the HDD  to the new iPhoto, was a bit of a mess, as I got, (as 2 of you, above, said), mixed up info, as both "originals" as well as "events" downloaded, which gave me duplicates of some, and the dates are NOT necessarily in order, as was in the old iPhoto before. (but that I can reconcile, later, can't I?
Can I move events to other places in iPhoto?
However, going directly via the DVD's into the new iPhoto, gave me exact input and I got all the files as well as all the data. But, in some, very slow downloading, and very few, some date order mixup, but very few.
SO, this new iPhoto Library is a bit messed up with the duplicate images in about the first 3,000 or so images, but I assume I can fix this up.
    Oh g---d.
In any event, it is now showing RAW and jpeg's as info in the metadata pane.
Thank you , all of you. I am not so computer savy, I do better in photography!
All the help I receive is welcome and worthwhile. And if there is anymore you want to tell me, besides scolding me for going into the iPhoto Library, it is all welcome.
    I Thank you.

  • Importing Raw (.nef) files.

    Hi there...
I have recently purchased a 27" 5k iMac... awesome! However as a wedding photographer I am having a major headache trying to import my nikon raw files into the new computer.  I have uploaded the Nikon Capture NX2 software but the computer is still saying that the files cannot be read, showing me an error code -36. Have spoken to Apple & they have said its an Adobe problem, as Lightroom isn't recognising the file format, but I can't import the images to the iMac desktop either.  Any advice welcome:)

This is a LightRoom issue if that is the app you use. Aperture is the same way, if you used Aperture and the files would not import then the finger would be pointed at Aperture.
Sorry but that's how it is. Contact Adbobe, see if they provide Raw support for your camera and version of LR you have installed and then begin trouble shooting the issue. This is not an OS X, iMac or otherwise an Apple issue.

  • Importing Nikon RAW .nef files into iPhoto

I am using iPhoto 8.0.3. I can import RAW .nef files from my D90 without a problem. I also scan my older slides/negs using a CoolScan V and saving those files as RAW .nef format. Problem is that iPhoto does not recognize the .nef files that are scanned. Anybody have some thoughts? I can convert the scanned files into jpg using Nikon View and then bring them in to iPhoto, but would prefer to leave them in the RAW format so I don't have replicant files all over the place.

iPhoto will only work with RAW files on this list

Unfortunately there are no Scanners on the list.

  • Raw (NEF) files from Nikon D7100 - Work on Elements 10

Has a update or patch been made for using raw (NEF) files from Nikon's D7100 camera?

Photoshop Elements 10 does support Adobe Camera Raw 6.4.1 to 6.7 and minimum requirement for Nikon D7100 is ACR 7.4.

  • Elements 11 import of NEF files fails

I've been using Elements for some time and importing NEF files from my Nikon D7100. I have Camera Raw 7.4 installed.  When I try to import new NEF files, it get's about 95% done and it says Import Failed. Nothing was imported.  The fields or files selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the catalog.
They are not in the catalog.  What is all of a sudden wrong?
Any help you can provide would be geatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thank you, Jim,
this was what I expexted. I misread the List provided by Adobe
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
by (wishfully) slipping to the next row which read 3.6 for Lightroom version.
Actually the list gives the correct information

According to the list published by Adobe, that camera was not supported until Lightroom 5.3. I don't know where you got information to the contrary. You'll either have to upgrade or use the DNG converter.

You need Adobe camera raw version 8.7. Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Photoshop Elements 8.0 will not open Nikon D610 RAW .NEF files

I am using Photoshop Elements 8.0; just purchased a Nikon D610 and when I try and open the RAW .NEF files I get error message saying wrong file type.

    Hi,
Nikon D610 is supported in ACR 8.3 (adobe camera raw version 8.3) while PSE8 is quite old. You may convert to DNG and then process converted DNGs in PSE8. For 8.3 DNG converter, see http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5694

  • Since mountain lion my MBP won't import RAW or jpg files

my MBP won't import RAW or jpg files.  Worked fine before.  Could it be Mountain Lion?

  • Import of RAW (NEF) files from Nikon D 90

    Hi there:
    > I am new to lightroom and just got a 30 days trial version. I desperately try to import directly RAW (NEF) files into lightroom 2. I have downloaded Adobes latest RAW converter. I also checked all available support areas (hope at least I found them all and also read Adobe's and Nikon's memorandum of understanding of working closer together in the future, but I am looking for help now..) I use a MacBook Pro Leopard...
    Can anybody help?

You will need the 2.1 RC1 beta to use the D90 files. I don't know if you can
    patch the trial or not.

You can download the beta 2.1 there.

  • How do I import iPhoto raw (NEF) files into Lightroom 3.6?

how do I import iPhoto raw (NEF) files into Lightroom 3.6?

You will need an application that can convert those pcd files into one that iPhoto supports, mainly jpeg. GraphicConverter is supposed to support many, many formats and might just support the pcd. If so you could use it to convert them to jpegs.
There's an automator workflow that I've put into an application that will take many image files and convert them into jpeg with the RGB color profile. I've never tried it on the Kodak files but you can give it a try. It's called +*Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile*+ and can be downloaded from Toad's Cellar. Make a copy of a couple of files and see if it will work. If so then you can batch convert folders of the files at once by dragging them onto the application.
I believe GC can do batch conversions but am not familiar with the application.
