Elements backup freezes

How do I prevent photshop elements 11 from freezing when backing up. It won't go past "Please wait while Elelments organizer prepares for backup.

Hi,
I should have replied back to this post after I found a solution that worked for me.  After looking at many different options, including deleting all of my largest files, reinstalling photoshop, etc., I found that a few other people had success making a new catalog and then copying all the files into that.  I did this and was then able to backup the new catalog with no issues.  Weird.  Adobe should really fix whatever causes this.  It is very irritating.  I would also make sure to write all the keyword tag info to the photos before you make a new catalog and make sure you are set with everything before you even think about deleting the first catalog.

Thank you for responding.  Nothing actually worked!  After reading the posts online, I called Apple.  They indicated they have seen problems with some software after their upgrades.  The technician was able to fix the problem on my computer remotely, but I have no clue what he did!  But, it was definitely related to their recent upgrade to my computer.

  • Elements 9 freezing up after loading project and wont load up dates

help, elements 9 freezing up after loading project .

    Unitedmoviemaker
Have you looked at any possible involvement of the antivirus program in the way of recent updates for it? Recent Windows Updates? Can we assumed that you have not added, subtracted any programs that would coincide with the onset of the issue?
Have you checked to make sure that your video card is up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card?
Recently, with Premiere Elements 10 and NVIDIA video card, answers have come from rolling back the driver.
I guess you tried the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file deletion. But, did you try deleting the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists?
Do you have the Premiere Elements 9 installation disc for installations files in case a deactivation, uninstall, run through of ccleaner, reinstall is indicated?
But, let me backup for a moment. Is this issue confined to one previously created project or to all your Premiere Elements projects either new or old?
Let us start here and then move forward according to your answers.
    Thanks.

Add On...Usual...confirm that you have the latest version of QuickTime installed, you are running the program as the 9.0.1 Update, and you are running the program Run As Administrator or from a User Account with Administrative Privileges.

Photoshop Elements 11 freezes up and then continues to create 1000s and 1000s AND 1000s of tmp files in the same location as I was trying to save the jpg. Any ideas on what is going on?

  • Photoshop Elements 11 freezes when selecting Photomerge

Photoshop Elements 11 freezes after selecting images in the tray and then selecting Photomerge/Group Shot or Photomerge/Scene Cleaner.  The program does not respond and then exits after Windows checks for a solution.  I tried this with 2 images of size 3000x2000.  The system is Win7, Intel i5, 8GB RAM, 10GB free SSD and >500GB HDD (set in Edit/Preferences).
Since the app freezes immediately I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Are you able to drag a source image into the editing window or select any of the tools e.g. pencil or eraser. If not use the menu in Expert mode and go to:
    Edit >> Preferences >> General
Click the button “Reset Preferences on next launch”
Then close the application and re-start.
Let us know if that makes any difference.

  • PS elements 12 freezing when doing selective color and having to force quit on Mac.

PS elements 12 freezing when doing selective color and having to force quit on Mac.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times and that did not work.  I've changed preferences and that did not work and i tried hitting shift+command and option at start up of program and that did not fix the problem either.

    Hi,
We sincerely apologize for the problem customers are facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
    1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
    2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
    Plug-in installation instructions:
    1. Close Photoshop Elements
    2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
    3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
    • For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
    • For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.
    Hope this helps!

  • Photoshop elements 12 freezes my computor

why does photoshop elements 12 freeze up when I'm in the editor.  I'm using a surface pro tablet and I can't get out of the program.   this happens frequently but not always   thanks

As John points out, you have posted in the wrong forum if your program is Photoshop Elements 12 (photo editor).
You can repost the thread in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum. See John's link to it. Or you could wait for a moderator here to see your thread here and move it from here to there. I suspect that the quicker route is for you to repost the thread in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum with lots of details.
What you have posted so far is not really enough to get to the core of the issue in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum..

  • Elements keeps freezing when using healing brush - can you help?  Running Yosemite

Elements keeps freezing when I try to use healing brush tool.  I'm running Yosemite.  Tried to download a "plug-in" workaround, but it just comes up blank.
    Can you please help?

The plugin is necessary for PSE 11 and 12 and should work:

  • Using iMovie 6.0 backups freezes my computer

Ever since I downloaded the latest iTunes update my iMovie 6.0 backups freeze on my new La Cie 1 Terabit hard Drive. I can escape iMovie 6.0 but I can't reopen it, and I can't shut down my computer internally.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went on the Lacie website and got the manual and followed the initialization process and partioned the disk drive even though I didn't need to. This seemed to work.

  • Backup Freezes

Trying to back up my music library but the backup freezes after first disk.  Won't release the disk.  Have to quit itunes to get the disk out which then renders the backup useless and the disk wasted.  Any suggestions?  I've tried different media and different drives.

Same here - when I backup my E71 it goes through the process but says there is an error. When I look at the report it says the following could not be backed up (or soemthing like that) and then there is nothing listed. So what the problem was I don't know. Worse the phone is dead and does not respond to any key presses. All I can do is take the battery out. This has happened 3 times in a row.
I'm using PC Suite 7.1.18 - the latest version.
The phone was also flashed with the latest version a few days ago, though I don't knwo what that is.

  • Elements 10.0 Backup Freezes

I just purchased and installed Elements 10.0 and successfully imported/converted my catalog from Elements 8.0.  I'm running on a high-end HP computer under Windows 7.  With Elements 8.0, I had the problem that I couldn't do a full backup -- the system would just hang saying it was "preparing for the backup".  When I launch Microsoft Task Manager to check activity, it says Elements is not responding and my CPU level is near 0% (although sometimes it freezes at about 12% CPU on Elements, even though it says it's not responding).  I tried letting it sit for a couple hours, and nothing.  I assumed (incorrectly) that this issue would be fixed with 10.0, but I still have the same problem.  My catalog is rather large (about 25GB with 30,000 pics and small videos).  Organizer works fine for me except for the backups (haven't gotten to the Restore feature yet, so not sure about that functionality).  Can someone help?

Some people have found that problems with some of the media files caused the backup to fail.
Check the thumbnails in Organizer for any media files without thumbnails and either use "Update Thumbnail" or moving those files out of Organizer's catalog.
You can also try moving the videos out of the catalog.

  • Photoshop Elements Organizer 10 backup freezes at 49%.

I have a large collection (~80,000) photos.  I have been trying (unsuccessfully) for a week to back up my collection.  Every time it freezes at 49%.  I did all the steps here: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-catalog-backup-conversion-elemen ts.html  Still freezing. Then I did a complete disk scan/repair and tried all the steps again.  Still freezing.  I am running Windows 7 on a powerful machine.
I want to move my collection to a new hard drive, so I really do need to use the bulit in backup.  What else can I try?

    thor_x9 wrote:
I was able to do the backup of just the photos, what can I try with the videos?
    That's very good news.
Here are a few ideas :
    - from your original catalog, create a copy leaving only the video media types just like what you have done with photo files.
    - generally offending video file types are not with 'common' video formats, rather with cell phone formats.
    - There may be 'corrupted' files, but non recognized formats are probably more common
-To have a look at the different formats (file extensions), look at the total number of video files and take a note of it.  Use the search by file name, 'files containing' and select a file extension visible in the browsing space (avi, mov...). Take a note of the number of files in each category.
For each category, select all and hide the files. Continue with the next  category and so on until nothing is visible.
You'll have all your files extensions with the number of files in each category.
Now, un-hide all files and make a second copy of your video catalog.
Try a backup of the video files after having deleted one of the categories. I would start with the less common video formats.
Try this until the backup works ok : you'll know the offending format.
A variant of this method would be to select the videos by camera type rather than by format type.
Something you could do with the video catalog until you have found the offending format or corrupted file(s) : you could try move (from the organizer menu) all the video files somewhere on a new empty master folder as a standard (non PSE backup). You might get significant messages in the process. Be aware that this 'move' may be impossible to 'undo' in case of a problem. A safer variant would be to 'export' instead of 'move'.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 freezes when attempting to backup the catalog

I just upgraded from version 10 hoping that this problem goes away, but that is not the case. I also changed PCs some months ago and this is my first attempt to backup the catalog using my new PC which has a Windows 8 system.
Essentially, when I attempt to backup the catalog, Photoshop first prepares the files, and then goes to "calculating media size". It then freezes at the 85% mark. I have tried many solutions as suggested by various commentators & forums. I have uninstalled Photoshop 10 & 11, and reinstalled 11 as an administrator, but that has not helped so far. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I moved the topic from the Photoshop forum to the Elements forum, where you are much more likely to get a response on Elements issues.

  • Elements 10 freezes on restoring backup

I have been trying to restore an older backup from pse 8 with pse 10 and it freezes. I want to restore the pictures to a new location on the hd so I can restore some photos that deleted from a crash, but the backup restore freezes as soon as I ask it to run.
    Help Please!!!

When PSE 10 came out, there was a free account at photoshop.com, but adobe has since shut that down and replaced it with revel. PSE 10 doesn't know anything about that, though, so it will keep looking for the old server if you try to sign in. Best thing is just not to use the welcome screen at all. Go into applications and make dock icons for the editor and/or organizer from there and start them directly.
The editor is not the file you think it is. It's hidden inside the Support Files folder in the PSE 10 folder. You want this file:

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 freezes on startup

    Hi,
I am having issues with Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, When I first load the software, it asks me if I want to use the "Organize" or the "Edit". When I choose "Edit", it loads the program, but I am unable to click on any options or toolbars as it freezes for around 3 minutes (says not responding) until it eventually kicks in and loads, I am then able to use the software perfectly.
On startup, is it trying to run updates or talk to Adobe for any reason, and can I turn this off?
Also, has anyone had the same problem? Help would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Ian

OK let’s deal with the Editor. The editor saved prefs often get corrupted. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts.
Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or hold down the keys whilst double clicking on the desktop icon for PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
    Click on Yes
Wait whilst it rebuilds the preferences.
