Elements Crashes iMac?

It's pretty hard to crash an iMac but Photoshop Elements seems to have contributed to the demise of ours.  Being old folks, when using the 24" Mac monitor at the highest resolution (standard graphics card, nothing fancy), it's close to impossible to see the tool icons.  Adobe e-mail response was difficult to read, suggesting someone whose first (or even second) language is other than English.  Once through it, it seemed the thing to do was to reduce screen resolution.  A couple of steps down made the tool icons usable but degraded the appearance of pictures.  Then the iMac "went to sleep".  When wakened, the cursor became a rotating color wheel when in the Photoshop screen; reverted to an arrow when outside it, but would do nothing.  Couldn't even shut down the program or even the computer.  Power it down and it would come back OK but repeat as soon as it went to sleep again.  Restoring to highest resolution let it work though tool icons were now unusable.
Worked with an Apple technician for over 3 hours, including complete reinstall of the OX (10.5.?) and Elements.  Same thing.  They wanted the computer sent back so their engineers can try to figure out what's going on.  It might be a hardware issue, an OS software issue, or some weird thing going on between the OS and Elements.  Maybe they can tell me.  Meanwhile, when the replacement arrives, I'll try changing resolution both before and after installing Elements and, before changing resolution AFTER installation I'll have an Apple tech on the phone with me when I try it for the first time.
Overall, if I could get my old Elements 2.0 to work on this machine I'd actually prefer it!

Your computer is not going to be happy at a lower resolution. That's just the way it is with LCD screens. They are not flexible this way like the old CRT screens were. What you gain in size you lose in fuzziness.
It shouldn't be crashing, though. I've never heard of changing screen resolution causing a hard crash of PSE or OS X, so my guess is that there was something else woogly besides this.
Having said that, you won't like it if you try to run your imac at a lower resolution. Many things will be weird, and PSE will not display properly, almost certainly. I don't like the high-res screens either, but until apple brings resolution-independent graphics into OS X (Leopard was originally supposed to have this), that's just how it is, unfortunately.

  • Why is Elements crashing Upon start-up?

Hello. I am using Photoshop Elements 2 for Macs with a G5 PowerPC iMac and OS 10.4.11. I've been using Elements for several years without a problem.I recently re-installed my OS from OS 10.4.9 to OS 10.4.11 and then reinstalled Elements. At the end of the Elements installation........a message comes up saying that installation was successfull.I then double click on the Photoshop icon in Applications to open it up.The "Photoshop "Splash Screen" comes up and about half way through loading up .......Elements crashes on me......a message says........"The Application Photoshop Elements" unexpectedly quit". The same thing happens if I try again.I've tried repairing permissions, and re-installing but no luck. Also tried trashing the preference file. I'm not sure what else to try.......can't think of any other reason it should'nt work. I'd appreciate if anyone has any suggestions or solutions. Thanks. P.S.-I also have Adobe Aftereffects installed. Was wondering if there could be any conflict between the startup files of these 2 Adobe products.

Maybe I should also mention that after it crashes........a window comes up labeled as"Problem Report For Photoshop Elements" that lists alot of information I don't understand such as"Thread crashed" info, "Binary images description" info, etc.I'm attaching a sample of some of this info. to this message.

  • Photoshop Elements crashing

    Hi All
    We have:
    - Mac Book Pro (15" two and a half years old)
    - OS X 10.6.8
    - Photoshop Elements 4
It has all been working fine, then suddenly Photoshop Elements has started to crash. It will load up and if you leave it on the 'Welcome' screen with the 'Start From Scratch', 'Import from camera or scanner', 'Recent images' etc options, it is fine. Once you open an image or start a new one, it is ok for a short while but with in a minute or two it crashes. It doesn't crash when you specifically click on anything. It can crash with the image just on the screen and you not touching the laptop. It crashes straight out to 'Problem Report for Photoshop Elements'.
We are seeing no other applications having any problems.
The top of the crash report is as follows (if more of it is useful, please just ask - it is very long):

Right, not had a chance to grab some one elses laptop and swap things, but I have done this..
This laptop has 2x 2GB sticks of RAM. It has 2 slots.
I put 1 stick in at a time in to each slot, so trying each stick of RAM on it's own in each of the 2 slots.
It crashed which ever stick was in which ever slot!
A mixture of the following 2 error variants appeared (both errors had with both sticks on their own):

Still think it's the memory? Can't be unless *both* of them are at fault surely? Then I really would expect more issues than just Photoshop Elements crashing?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Pls help - Photoshop Elements crashes when switching media types

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help.  I just installed Photoshop Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 7 on a brand new HP Pavilion system running Vista, 9 GB of RAM.  I then imported a catalog with ~18,000 photos and tags from Photoshop Elements v6 via backup from original system and restore to new HP system.  Worked like a charm.  Now I have the catalog open, and when I click on "View -> Media types -> anything else (Video, PDF, whatever)" irrespective of what I select, Photoshop Elements crashes.  The error message states, "Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 (Organizer) has stopped working.  A problem cause the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  Note this also happens when I use Ctrl-1 or other shortcuts.
Has anyone else seen this?  I literally powered up the HP today, and loaded Elements and Premiere today, so it's not likely due to old software (eg I did not install Photoshop Elements 6).
    Thanks all!
    Ed

Please delete the folder  C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\8.0\Organizer and relaunch to see if the problem vanishes.

  • Flash crashes iMac?

Hi, I have an early 2008 24 inch iMac, 3.06GHz C2D, 4G Ram,OSX 10.8.2. I read a lot in this forum regarding Flash crashes iMac. It happens to me recently when I watch CNN news video, my iMac would shutdown unexpectedly. I beleive that CNN video uses Flash plugin, that might be the issue, but what I don't understand is that I can watch Hulu movies for hours without any issues, doesn't Hulu uses Flash as well? Perhaps some web engineer at CNN uses Flash the wrong way?

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the entire contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • Elements crashing when in Organizer

A friend who is a PC user using elements 9 is having problems with Elements crashing.
They had moved some files in the filesystem in a way that elements was no longer able to print them and when I tried to help them run a reconnect it gets stuck on the reconnect select box.
It has also been crashing at other times for them.
What are ways to fix crashing like this?
    Is it a corrupt catalog?
    What are the workarounds?
    Thanks!

This happens when photos are moved or deleted from system folders. Always use Organizer and the catalog will stay tidy. It’s probably best to start over with a new catalog.
    Open PSE9 Organizer.
On the top menu click File à Catalog
    Then click the New button
    Enter a different name e.g. My Catalog2
Leave the box checked “Import free Music into this Catalog”
    Then click OK.
When the new browser window opens it will be blank.
Click File à Get Photos & Videos à From Files & Folders
Navigate to My Pictures and hold down the Ctrl key and press the letter A on the keyboard (to select all)
    Click Get media or Open.
Wait for Organizer to generate thumbnails.

  • Premiere elements crashes when burning a DVD

I'm trying to burn a slide show I've created.  It's a mixture of photoshop elements photo slideshow and edited videos, about 30 minutes long.
But every time I try and burn it to DVD, premiere elements crashes.  It generally gets to about 30% through the encoding media stage.
Has anyone else come across this problem?  I thought it might be related to virtual memory, but I've increased this, and it's not had an effect.  I'm running it on a laptop with 4Gb RAM, so RAM shouldn't hopefully be a problem.
When trying to burn, i've also tried to reduce the quality so instead of using "Fit contents to available space" I've reduced the bit rate down to 5Mbps so the space required is just over 1.2Gb (it was originally about 2Gb).
Has anyone any suggestions as to how to resolve / diagnose this problem.
I've burnt several DVDs before without any problems, although they were mainly just photos
    Thanks in advance
    J

The easiest way to do this is with Photoshop (PS). I'm certain that PSElements can do it well also, but do not know what might be different. This is for Photoshop.
Place copies of your files into a folder. I use copies because I do not want anything to happen to my originals and play it extra safe. Add a sub-folder. I name mine something like "Final_PSD's,) etc. In PS, I have a series of Actions, to re-size to my common video formats. They are named things like, NTSC_Wide, NTSC_4-3, etc. The Action is set to Open the files, then change the size to the appropriate dimensions and assign the correct PAR for that Project, such as my NTSC_4-3 gets a PAR of 0.9. The Action then does a Save_As. I keep .PSD's as .PSD's, but JPEG would work well too.
In PS, I go to File>Automate>Batch Process. This brings up a dialog screen, where I choose the Action that I want to run, NTSC-4-3 in this case. I direct the program to the Source Folder and the appropriate Destination Folder, my "Final_PSD's" in this case. If I have the sub-folder targeted for the Destination Folder, I leave the file naming conventions the same. I check Bypass Open command, as I do not need to see the work being done. Check over everything. Hit OK, and in a few minutes, I can re-size hundreds of files. Time will depend on one's system, and also on the size of the Target Files.
I feel that there WILL be differences in PSE, but someone else will have to fill in that info. It has also been pointed out that the freeware image processor and cataloging program Irfanview cand do batch re-sizing quite well. This might be an option. I do not use it for such, so I cannot comment.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Pro & Premiere Elements Crash When Open Together?

Anyone have a problem with Premiere Pro & Premiere Elements crashing when open together?
I have PE10 and am doing a trial of Premiere Pro CS6.
Both crash fairly quickly when open together.

    Windows 7 64 Bit
    16GB RAM
    GTX 470
    Corsair AT 850 Watt PSU
    Thanks!

The first thiing that comes to my mind is a resources issue. As you have a stout computer, with more than adequate RAM, unless something is failing (like a stick of RAM), or perhaps the GPU, I would not expect to see what you observe. On a much less powerful machine, I have no problem running PrPro, Encore, Photoshop, Illustrator, and a word processor, all at the same time.
I would look into this ARTICLE, which starts with some general tips on setting up one's computer for running PrE, and then goes into system and OS tune-up tips (this is probably where I would start, if the intitial checklist looks OK), and then goes into troubleshooting. I would definitely look here, and especially using Event Viewer to try and track down what is happening, when the crashes occur, and also the one on tools to test RAM, GPU's, etc.).
    Good luck,

  • Photoshop Elements crash when I want to send a photo-email

Hello, when I want to send photo-email then photoshop elements crash. What can I do?

    Hi,
Which operating system are you running on?
Which version of Photoshop Elements are you using?
If you are on a Windows system, use Windows Explorer to locate the actual organizer - should be somewhere like this
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 12 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
If you are on a 32 bit system, omit the (x86) part.
Right click on that file and choose "Run as Administrator" - then try the email.
You need only do this once, you should be able to load normally after that.
If you still have problems please gives us details of which step it fails at.

  • I am trying to make a Landscape photo collage in Elements 11 but Elements crashes. Why???

When I make a Collage in Elements 11 the Portrait mode works ok but when I try to make a Landscape one Elements crashes. Anyone any idea why?

Yes, this was a known bug. In any event, from PSE 11 on, there's really no point at all in using the collage feature to make a collage. Unlike earlier versions of PSE, in recent versions there isn't a single thing you can do with a collage in Create that you can't do more easily in the regular editor by just making a blank file and getting out the graphics panel to add backgrounds, frames, etc.

I recently got a new iMac and did the set up THEN I took it to the store to have my backup data loaded onto my new iMac from my old crashed iMac. Now I have 2 login accounts on my new iMac. The old one has my iTunes and iPhoto libraries and my new login is empty. Is it possible to move the libraries and the other data to my new login and delete the old one?

I've done something a little different but have the same problem, sort of.  I had been with AT&T for years and had iphones but I switched to VZ wireless quite a while back and got a droid.  I just switched back and got the iphone 4S and was downloading apps from the phone having forgot I already had an iTunes account so I created another one.
After doing the above (which I'm not sure where to even start) is it possible to get all of the songs from my old account loaded onto my new phone (I haven't even attempted it yet because I don't know where to start)?

  • WD My Book Pro Edition II crashes iMac consistently

Has anyone else had problems with their late-edition My Book Pro Edition II from Western Digital, as follows?
-- Drive cannot be seen through the Firewire 400 connection, no matter what, and in spite of their claims that it's a three-interface drive (USB, Firewire 400, Firewire 800). Is this false advertising?
-- Drive will crash iMac consistently when connected through USB. Although the Mac will see the drive when connected through USB, any drive operations may simply crash the computer at random. This isn't a light crash, where an application or file operation goes kaput, this is an all-system crash where the gray screen of death comes on, with the official notice that the computer needs to be reset.
-- MyBook RAID Manager also crashes computer the same way, and at random.
-- The drive itself will overheat and shut down randomly, causing any file transfers to be lost.
Please let me know if you've had the same problems. I'd hate to think I was the only one. My iMac manages to work fine otherwise, but when I connect the drive, bad things happen, as described above. I wrote about this in more detail here, if you should be interested.

DaddyPaycheck and Miriam, thank you for your suggestions. I've been contacted by one of the senior VPs of PR at Western Digital, and he has promised to put me in touch with more advanced tech support in the US, to see if my problem can't be resolved. It seems my blog posts and videos got some well-deserved attention. We'll see where this new development leads. I'll keep this post marked as unresolved until I have a definitive solution for my issues, and will update it as needed.
I've had great success with the OWC NewerTech Stack enclosures, the ones that have a built-in Firewire and USB hub. I've had two of them for over 2 years now, and they work great. I've replaced the drives inside them as bigger drives became less expensive, and they've held up quite nicely. I also have a Porsche-designed LaCie that has been working non-stop for about two years as well, and now I have three 500 GB LaCie drives that I recently bought. They work great as well. I also really like my Drobo, which I bought to store my photo library. The only drive I'm having problems with is the My Book Pro Edition II, which is why I keep trying to get its problems resolved.

  • Installing photoshop elements on imac with no disc drive

I purchased Adobe Photoshop elements 9 a year or so ago.  I still have the installation disc and all the packaging that came with it.  Unfortunately my imac crashed and I had to purchase a new imac.  I would like to install this program on my new computer but there is no disc drive on it.  Also there are no instructions included that direct installation without using the disc.  How can I get this installed on my imac so that I can use it again?

You can download the trial version of the software from the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site or else the download will not work properly.
