Elements, iphoto and camera raw

Hello
I have a few problems and hope someone can help me out. I installed Elements 9 (including the camera raw update), iphoto 11, Snow Leopard on my iMac. I did all of this so I can continue to shoot raw in my new camera, the Nikon D7000. I find I cannot import photos using the organizer from iphoto...it says iphoto has no media available to me... I cannot export from iphoto to Elements..I just get a blank screen. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Am I missing something? I can drag jpegs into Elements but really went through all this upgrading and purchasing so i could shoot in raw. I have camera raw 6.6 installed, and cannot even find the camera raw window in Elements. I cannot load straight from the camera or card either... thanks in advance and I really hope someone has some ideas.
Shannon

Hello Shannon,
Let me clarify a few things based on what you have said so far.
First, the latest version of the Camera Raw plug-in is 6.3. By 6.6, I imagine you are referring to your version of the Mac OS: 10.6.6 (which is the latest version).
Second, in order to import images directly from your iPhoto '11 catalog into your Elements Organizer 9 catalog, you have to have the 9.0.2 update installed.
I refer you to the following documentation for further details:
Use Photoshop Elements 9.0 with iPhoto | Mac OS
Import media from iPhoto library (Mac OS only)

  • Photoshop Elements 8 and Camera Raw

I have Elements 8 installed on my Dell notebook (INSPIRON mini) I have installed the Camera Raw 5.5 plug-in and I am using a Nikon D90 camera.
The plug-in has been installed in "Program files/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 8/Plug-Ins/File Formats/ and the file name is Camera Raw.8BI
Every time I click on a NEF file to load into camera raw, a window appears in Elements saying reading camera raw format and a progress bar under it, when the file has been loaded it opens up in Elements and not in Camera raw. I am now at a lose as what else I can do to correct this problem.
    Any ideas???

    1) Location of Camera Raw Plugin
With PSE8, the file Camera Raw.8bi has been moved from
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats
    to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats
This is not documented in the ACR 5.5 Installation Guide yet, but PSE 8 comes with ACR 5.5 anyway.
    2) ACR not loading, but PSE Editor
This sounds to me like the Screen Resolution Problem described here.

  • Elements 7 and camera RAW

I have Elements 7 and a Nikon D90.  I have downloaded photos taken in RAW onto my Mac using iphoto.  My Mac doesn't have Elements on it; that's on our other Windows laptop.  I now want to create a panorama using Elements on the laptop, so I've put the NEF images onto a memory stick.  I went to the Editor in Elements, used 'open' and browsed to the memory stick, selected the images and opened them.  The editor told me that it was "the wrong type of file".  I checked in help.  I've downloaded the current camera RAW update and restarted the laptop.  Same thing has happened.  Also link on the Adobe website for this problem is broken.  Any suggestions please?

The 5.6 camera raw plugin is the newest camera raw plugin that works with pse 7
    and should open D90 files.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 and Camera Raw 8.7.1 Converter

Can the Camera Raw 8.7.1 Converter be used with Photoshop Elements 10?

I agree. But the problem here isn't with Adobe. If the camera manufacturers could agree on a common file format all of this compatibility mayhem could be eliminated. But they insist on maintaining their proprietary raw formats.
A common file format is not a panacea - somebody has to write the code to translate sensor data to RGB values etc.., and right now:
    Nikon does that for Nikon,
    Canon does that for Canon,
    Adobe does that for Adobe.
Reverse engineering different raw file formats (to locate raw image and pertinent metadata) is comparatively trivial.
Yes, I realize that if Nikon and Canon did that for Adobe too (and packaged it in a DNG file for example, with camera profiles.., and did new lens profiles for them too..), then it would be better for Adobe software users, but there is just insufficient incentive for camera manufacturers to do that.
The bottom line - I agree that the problem here isn't with Adobe, but also: it's unfair to accuse camera manufacturers of being "stubborn or uncooperative..". It just doesn't make good business sense for them, or hasn't yet anyway.
Fingers crossed for the future and all, but I wouldn't hold breath..

  • Photoshop elements 12 and camera raw 8.5

Just so anyone that's interested knows, camera raw 8.5 is available for photoshop elements 12 by going to Help>Updates from within the pse 12 editor.
I believe the same limitations apply as camera raw 8.4, that being if you have windows xp, vista or mac os x 10.6.8 you
won't get the camera raw 8.5 update, because it doesn't work on those operating systems.
Camera Raw 8.5 and DNG Converter 8.5 now available

Just a note abour the 8.5 update:
This morning, opening my computer I got a warning message from 'Adobe application manager' informing me of the availability of that update. I agreed an the update started. It soon stopped with a dialog asking me to stop 'elementsautoanalyzer.exe'. I was sure it was not running in the background. After checking that, I simply clicked on the 'continue' button and the update ran normally. The new version is good in the editor and the organizer.
So, if you get that message, don't panic...

  • Elements 8 and Camera raw

I have installed elements 8 on my Dell Inspiron mini and that works well. However I use a nikon D90 and am saving files in NEF format, in order to uwe this format I loaded Camera Raw and installed the files as indicated on the web site.
When I try to load a NEF file it is still loading dirtecty into Elements and not using tyhe camera raw plugin. Has any one had the same problem and if so how did you overcome it.
    Help

    Paige,
With PSE 8, Adobe dopped the minimum screen requirements from 768 high to 576 high.  It appears that to meet those requirements, Adobe took a shortcut in at least two instances:
    - When ACR is invoked, rather than showing the normal ACR editing window, it does the equivalent of the ACR Open Image command, opening the image directly in the Editor.
    - The Advanced Dialog window of the Adobe Photo Downloader is not available.
I've seen no mention of these limitations in any Adobe literature.   See these posts for more details:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2358011#2358011
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2358002#2358002
I wonder if there are other undocumented limitations in functionality when running on short screens.

  • I just installed elements 11 with camera raw 7.1. My  photos from iPhoto will not open in camera raw

I just installed elements 11 with camera raw 7.1 in my iMac. My raw photo files from iPhoto will not open in camera raw. The elements screen opens without a photo, but camera raw willnot open. Help.

You need to tell iphoto to send raw files out of iphoto or it will make its own conversion and send a pre-converted file. Go to the iphoto preferences>advanced and turn on this checkbox:

  • Opening jpegs from iPhoto in Camera Raw

Hi there, I really hope someone can help me as i have just purchased PSE10 for Mac and am a complete novice!. I have bought the book 'The photoshop elements 10 book for digital photographers' and would like to begin to learn to edit my jpeg photos (organised in iphoto) in camera raw, however after setting PSE 10 as my external editer it only opens the jpegs in an editer but not the camera raw one.
Is there a way of changing this? I've searched the net for a the answer but cant find it
I plan to take future photos in Raw mode so I only need this for my existing photos
    Many thanks
    Chris

Not sure about iPhoto but you cdan opeb directly from the Editor App.
      Open the Editor and click:
    File à Open
Select your image and choose camera raw as the format, then click the Open button.
The image should open in the Adobe Camera Raw dialog where you ca use all the regular sliders.
The attached notes should be helpful.

  • Are Bridge and Mini Bridge and Camera Raw part of PS?

1.) Are Bridge and Mini Bridge and Camera Raw part of PS? OR do they also come with other programs in the Adobe software suite?
2.) What is the difference between Bridge and Mini Bridge?
    Thanks.

1.) The  Bridge application is included in the Photoshop installer, as well as  some other Adobe products.(more info:  http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/bridge/?promoid=GWELP). The  Mini Bridge extension is only included in Photoshop CS5, and InDesign  CS5. The Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in is shared by Photoshop, and  Bridge (and is also found in Photoshop Elements).
2.) Bridge is a separate application, whereas Mini Bridge is a panel  that's hosted by the Photoshop or InDesign application. Bridge has a fuller feature set than Mini Bridge and can be used by itself. Mini Bridge needs Bridge to create thumbnails, keep files  synchronized, and perform other  tasks, but operates in the context of the Ps or ID host application (ie. drag/drop multiple assets into working document w/o losing document view).

  • Mac computer: New Nikon d300s, CS3, and Camera Raw

I just purchased a Nikon d300s. I had a Nikon d50, Mac, iPhoto, CS3, and Camera Raw 4.6.0.30. With Nikon d50,  no problem opening an image from iPhoto into Camera Raw/CS3. With the new D300s, the image opens into CS3 but does not open into Camera Raw. Do I have to buy CS4?

No, you do not have to. You can alternatively use the DNG Converter, which will process your D300S NEF files into DNG files, which can then be opened in CR 4.6 in CS3. The latest version of the DNG Converter, which supports the D300S, is currently in Release Candidate phase and is available here:

... but Camera raw does not seem to work.
You'll have to give us more details than that. Exactly what are you doing, and what happens?
