Elements & Lightroom

I plan to use Lightroom but would like to tag people and locations in Photoshop Elements 13 due to the face recognition and map feature. However, when I tag faces in Elements 13 and then load the same image in Lightroom the names don't show up. Do I need to write the metadata to the images first? If so how do I do that?

What operating system are you using?
For photoshop elements 10 you should be able to go to Help>Updates from the pse 10 editor to get the camera raw 6.7 update, which should
open the D800 files into pse 10.
If you like using lightroom, then you would need to upgrade to Lightroom 5
(you could also use the 8.3 dng converter to convert your D8oo files to dngs that lightroom 3 can read, but that's a pain)

  • Photoshop Elements & Lightroom Set-Up

    Hi!
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 11, Premiere Elements 11, Lightroom 4, an external hard drive, and a MacBook Pro, but I'm not sure where to start.
    1. I'm particularly wondering if I should download the software onto my computer, and put my photos onto the external hard drive (I thought it would be best to put my photos on the external hard drive, as to save my computer's memory, but am not sure if the software will be able to access the photos there)?  What is the best set-up?
    2. If the software on the computer can "find" the photos on the external hard drive, will the photos essentailly be saved onto my computer when I edit them with the software?  If so, wouldn't this slow down my computer (or is there a way around this)?
    3. Do these programs (e.g. Photoshop, Elements, Lightroom) work together?  If so, how do I set them up to do this and use them this way?
    4. How do I transfer the photos from my old computer to the external hard drive?
    5. How do I transfer the photos from my phone to the external hard drive?
    6. Do you have any other set-up or organization tips/resources?
    Thanks a bunch!
    A

I don't want to seem flippant, but that's exactly what I did - Actually I set up 2 presets here (one for Adobe RGB & one for sRGB).
As I stated previously, I set these up on 2 different computers (a MacPro and a MacBook Pro), each computer running a different version of OS-X (Lion & Mavericks, respectively).
I have successfully set up several external editors using various stand-alone programs - they all still work -- with the exception of Photoshop Elements 12.

  • What level of Photoshop (Elements, Lightroom, CS6) would I need

We have 8" x 10" radiochromic film (like conventional x-ray film, except that it self develops without chemical solutions) that has a reflective backing built in (doubles the path length through the sensitive emulsion).
I want to do a reflective scan (very easy with VueScan) and then do two things to the resulting TIFF file:
    1. Use a histogram to adjust the black and white levels to optimize contrast for the image.
    2. Change the greyscale range to a color range using a linear transformation (i.e., 0 = black, goes to red; 255= white, goes to blue) for easier viewing .
What level of Photoshop (Elements, Lightroom, CS6) would I need to do this?
    Thank you

For simple file manipulation Photoshop Elements would be enough and in your case the best.

  • PS Elements/Lightroom issues

Hi, Could anyone help me with an issue using Lightroom and PS Elements. When I move from Lightroom to edit in PS Elements, I loose my saved image. It does not show back in Lightroom as everyone tells me it should. I have tho save it somewhere else. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks Barry from MM

You need to start the round trip from LR as follows and use the save command (Ctrl+S) not save as:
    1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings (I choose PSD) or right-click and choose Open In PSE
    2) Edit in PSE; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
    3) Ctrl+W to close in PSE and update Lightroom thumbnail.
    On Mac OSX Cmd+E; Cmd+S; Cmd+W
The important point is to overwrite the LR export copy by using File >> Save (Ctlr+S) because if you use “Save As” you create a new document which LR knows nothing about.

  • Photoshop Elements, Lightroom and Nik Software Lightroom Edition experience working together?

I have Photoshop Elements 10 and number of plugins, like Topaz Labs ones. I have also just acquired Lightroom. I do want to get CS5 eventually but that is not in the near future.
I am thinking of getting Nik Software's Complete Collection. It does not support Elements 10, but it does support Lightroom. So solution seems easy, just use it in Lightroom. That solution could also result in $200 saving as edition that includes support for Photoshop and Lightroom is right now $399 while one that supports just Lightroom (and Aperture but that is not of relevance to me as I am a Windows user) is $199.
However, I do not want to lose benefits of other plugins I have so going with solely Lightroom edition means increased going back and forth between Photoshop and Lightroom.
So question for those experienced with 3 of these together: Do you foresee issues with getting edition that just supports Lightroom? What things I might feel are missing / might frustrate me with this approach?

I’ve not used Nik Software but have used Lightroom and PSE together and the two programs integrate well. If Elements was already installed Lightroom should automatically recognize it as your external editor otherwise you need to set up external handling in Lightroom preferences.
I assume any changes made in Lightroom with a Nik plug in will register as part of the Lightroom Develop settings. Is that how it should work?
My usual routine is to highlight an image in the Lightroom Library and then
    1) Press Ctrl+E to edit in photoshop - choose PSD with Lightroom settings
    2) Image opens automatically in PSE Editor
    3) Do further editing in PSE and press Ctrl+S to save an overwrite the Lightroom export copy. Click OK
    4) Press Ctrl+W to close the saved PSD file which automatically updates the Lightroom thumbnail.
It all works quite seamlessly. Use the PSD copy in light room to export a jpeg or any other format of your choosing.

Can Lightroom do everything Photoshop elements does -- but more conveniently and easily, without as steep a learning curve?

  • Why can't I edit Lightroom pictures in Photoshop Elements?

I'm on a Windows PC running Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements 12.  Why can't I get Elements as an option when I am in Lightroom and select Photo - Edit In??  Elements is not an option there.  Can I change that??

This blog will explain how to install Elements as an external editor in lightroom.  The main thing to remember it to point Lightroom to the EDITOR and not the Elements Startup screen where you can choose Organizer or Editor.  If you don't point to the EDITOR the photo will not show up in Elements

  • Why can't lightroom across different folders like Photoshop Elements can?

I have access to Lightroom through CC and I'd like to use it more, but it cannot do a very basic thing that Photoshop Elements, a consumer-oriented product, has been doing for years. That is, stack across different folders. I keep my large RAW files on an external hard drive but keep the edited .jpg files on my computer's main drive. In the Elements library I stack those photos and any other versions such as .psd files. Very useful and I don't understand why this has never been possible in Lightroom.
An additional wish is that I could import my Elements library into Lightroom, complete with stacking, keywords, etc. That would be fantastic.

  • Lightroom 5, Topaz b & W, Elements 13

When I attempt to edit in Topaz or Elements, Lightroom gives a message that says Unable to prepare file and will not open.  This does not happen on all files.  My computer is Windows 7.  Can't figure out what I am doing wrong.  I have searched every blog I can find.

Are you on a Mac or a PC?  The images below are for a Mac.  The first is what I see from the Photo menu; sorry, but I do not have PSE, I do have PSCC and PSCC 2014.  If you do not see PSE in the list, you can add it by going to LR Preferences>External Editing.  In the middle of the panel, click the Choose button.  You will then have to navigate to the exe file for PSE.  On a PC, it would be C-Drive>Program Files> Adobe Photoshop Elements.  In that folder find the exe file that opens PSE.  Name the preset something like PSE 13, select the other options and you should be set.  As you can see in my first image, I have set presets for onOne PPS9 and CS6.  If you are confused as to what exe file is correct, you can go to the short-cut on your desktop (I am assuming that you have one) right click on it and select properties, it should show you the target path and file.  That would be the same file you need to navigate to and Choose.

  • I just upgraded to a 3ti from a rebel xt. When I try to open my RAW images in photoshop elements 5.

I just upgraded to a 3ti from a rebel xt.  When I try to open my RAW images in photoshop elements 5.0 get an error message.   I installed the camera raw update 4.2 but that didn't work.  Any suggestions.

    Hi,
Elements version 5 was made obsolete by Elements 6 back in 2007.  The T3i was only released 2-3 years ago.  Adobe was up to Elements version 9 or 10 by then.  Every camera has its own particular camera raw software, and Adobe has to write an update for the software to work with each new camera's RAW files.  And Adobe stops updating the old versions to work with new cameras when the next version of Elements/Lightroom come out.
I had to buy Lightroom 4 only 6 months after I had bought Lightroom 3 when I bought a new camera.  The older version would not, and never will, work with the RAW files from my 6D.
You could, I believe, use DPP to convert the RAW files before exporting them into Elements 5, but personally I would just take this as a cue that it is time to get Elements 11.  Or Lightroom 5.  I personally prefer Lightroom.

  • Kodak easy share and Elements 11 and photo retouching questions

I have kodak easyshare on my pc. That's where i store all my photos. Can I  use Elements 11 without interfereing with my kodak software ? I like to transfere my photos from my digital camera right to my kodak softwear. Can I still keep doing that and only transfere the ones I want to correct onto elements 11 ?. Will elements 11 take away oily skin from photos and make them look fresh and non oily ?  I like the glamour shot look without everyone having an oily face. Thanks.

    Hi quasarstar,
When you copy photos from your camera through any software (Kodak, Elements, Lightroom, Windows OS import, etc.) a physical copy is created on your storage media (wherever you configured the software to copy photos to).
When you install Photoshop Elements, you also get Photoshop Elements Organizer. Organizer serves as a virtual library of all the pictures and videos that are available to your computer. You can choose which photos are included in Organizer, by choosing only those pictures you would like to import. From the Organizer application, you can view your assets, and then modify, enhance, or alter them accordingly in Photoshop Element Editor (photos) or Premiere Elements (for videos, requires separate purchase).
    To answer your questions:
Can I  use Elements 11 without interfereing with my kodak software ? [Ivan David] Yes!
Can I still keep doing that and only transfere the ones I want to correct onto elements 11 ? [Ivan David] Yes, absolutely. Choose and import only the photos you want in Photoshop Elements Organizer.
Will elements 11 take away oily skin from photos and make them look fresh and non oily ? [Ivan David] This. I believe, might be possible, but might require some skills. There is no straightforward way of doing this in Photoshop Elements 11 yet.
    Hope this helped!

  • I currently have LR5 and PS Elements on my Mac. Do I need to uninstall LR before installing CC?

Do I leave the current version of Lightroom on my computer and just register it with Lightroom mobile?

Thanks for confirming that. One problem I have is that Lightroom has made Photoshop Elements the default external editor. I have Portrait Pro as the second editor, so I can't integrate Lightroom with Photoshop. I've read elsewhere that if I uninstall Photoshop Elements, Lightroom should pick up Photoshop as the external editor.

  • Moving File images from photoshop to photo elements

I am unable to move images from photoshop to lightroom. The ones I want to move shows up as a clouded image that I am unable to export. Any thoughts?

Hi! Can you clarify where you are trying to move photos to and from?

         Photoshop Elements > Lightroom

  • What can Lightroom do that Photoshop 5 cannot do?

I already purchased Photoshop 5 and have started trying to learn how to use it. In the box I found a discount certificate for Lightroom. I expected Photoshop to be comprehensive enough that it would include Elements, Lightroom, etc. Is this not the case?

There is a lot of overlap between Lightroom and Bridge+Photoshop.
If you need common access (i.e. you work on photos as a team), I'd suggest Bridge+Photoshop, if edits are done by one person, you may prefer Lightroom's local catalog.
Both have the same core develop features (as provided by Adobe Camera Raw), but Lightroom has some value added, and some people prefer Bridge...
There are many threads (and a tutorial by J.Kost) comparing the two workflows, but I've no links for you.
PS - some of my favorite Lr features (not in Photoshop) are:
    * edit history
    * before/after compare
    * publishing
    * plugins

I have been using a Kodak DX6490 with ability to tag photos for albums. The Kodak software will import and organize directly into the albums; can Elements do this? I am using 3.0 but would upgrade for this feature? If not, are there any good work-arounds? Tx.
