Elements organiser problem

I downloaded raw and JPeg files from camera to standby pc, from standby pc via external hard drive to my main pc. all seems well.
I stacked each RAW and JPEG file as recommended and now I find that each file has a yellow question mark in the top left hand corner.
Clicking on the file it says 'the files are disconnected' and my machine goes on an endeless search trying to find the files.
what has gone wrtong?
what should I do to overcome this problem?

For the organizer there is a big difference between 'offline' files and 'diconnected' files.
'Offline' files are typically the files on a CD/DVD which is not presently accessible by the computer. The catalog has stored the location (the drive identifier) of the CD/DVD and has also stored a thumbnail (reduced image) of all the files in the catalog. The catalog can show you the thumbnail and the link to the CD/DVD is correct. Obviously, you can't edit the files when the CD/DVD is not available, but you can do organizing tasks such as rating, adding keywords, including a file in an album or a stack.
'Disconnected' files are files which may or may not be accesible by your computer, but are not in the same location and/or with a different name that the name and full path, including drive identification, than those at the time they were 'registered' in the database. Typically, the files have been moved, renamed or erased via the explorer instead of the organizer. The database stores a link, drive identifier (drive letter + drive serial number) plus full folder path which is no longer correct.
If you have 'offline' files, the option to 'reconnect' files won't show you the 'missing files'. But you will be able to see the 'offline' media in the folder view.
So, you don't need at all to have copied all your files from external media to your main computer drive. You can have pictures on 'offline' drives and/or external drive. So, in your situation, it is important to know if the files are 'missing' or 'offline'

Do I understand well:
1 - you downloaded from your camera to one PC.
2 - You made a copy on an external drive
3 - You downloaded from that external drive to your main PC.
When exactly did you 'get photos and videos from files and folders' to get them in your catalog ?

How do I fix uncontrollable scrolling in Elements Organiser?

How do I fix uncontrollable scrolling through image thumbnails in Elements Organiser? The problem occurs whether I use the trackpad on my Macbook or the Magic Mouse. I have tried slowing the gesture speed to Zero in Settings. This has absolutely no effect on the speed at which images move in the Organiser. The speed makes both Photoshop and Premiere Elements unusable.

Using PS Elements 11 on a Mac how can one replicate Finder folders in the Elements Organiser view?

Hi all - I have found the Organiser folder structure quite confusing and it does not seem to replicate the Finder folder structure other than randomly, unlike Bridge in PS for PC which I also use.
I would love to be able to create folders in elements or simply do so in Finder and find them show up in elements Organiser. It seems to me that only once I have saved an image to a folder in the Finder does it show up in the Organiser folder view. Is this correct?
Any suggestions around a sensible workflow or approach here would be most welcome, thanks. Sean

Many thanks Andaleeb - yes I have tried that and it seems only to add to the confusion - folders which in the Finder clearly show all my images are blank in PSE Organiser with the statement that they still have to be imported into PS Organiser. I guess that may be my fault because, due to the problems in locating files in Organiser I right clicked on them in the Finder and said 'open with PSE'. So in effect I bypassed PSE Organiser. But one would still have hoped that the folder hierarchy would be the same in Organiser and the Finder. Very confusing! I have never seen a program deal with folders etc in the way PSE does.

Opening Elements 12 problem

I am running Windows 7. When I tried to access Photoshop Elements12 it looked as though it was starting to open, the icon was going round but then nothing. The same happened with Premiere Elements 12where it opened as far as the opening page but again when Organiser was selected the loading 'bar' rotated and then nothing else happened. I tried Adobe support who tried a variety of solutions including loading Application Manager and logging in under a new user name but that failed also. However I did manage to get a couple of error reports as follows:

Images viewed in elements organiser appear over saturated compared with acr or editor

Hi,
I've been struggling with this for some time now. When veiwing images in elements organiser (10) the images have started appearing more saturated than in either adobe camera raw or photoshop elements editor window. They used to always match. I've tried reseting all the colour presets, I've tried changing every setting I can find in acr and I've resorted to a full re-install of elements (including deleting the presets). None of thise have solved the problem.
I'm pretty sure it is the organiser view which is over saturated rather than acr / photoshop which is washed out as, although mostly quite subtle, sometimes the colours are pushed much too far. (I'm only describing it as saturation as that's how it looks - I couldn't say for sure that it is acutally a saturation setting rather than some other colour setting which is causing the issue).
Every so often organiser updates it's images as I veiw them to match acr but I've not noticed any one reason why that happens - and if I shut organser down and restart it's back to over saturation again.
Any suggestions would be greatfully recieved,

Thanks for getting back to me. You're right - it would seem that if I have every thing set to always optimize for computer screens then everything looks the same. Ideally I wouldn't have that set though - the photos are all taken with adobe RGB colour space and we are more given to big prints than sharing on screen.
This never used to be a problem and I've always previously optimised for printing. The pictures are definitley adobe RGB and checking in canon DPP the raw veiw there is the same as ACR so it is the initial organizer colouring which is at fault. I would rather use optimize for printing as we tend to make big prints from our photos rather than sharing electronic albums. Following the suggestion I've done some more playing with settings and found the following situations:
1) If opening organizer when set to optimize for printing the image opens with the wrong colouring. Changing to optimze for screen and update thumbnial and the colouring corrects. Changing back to optimize for printing update thumbnail and any subsequent changes and the colouring stays correct.
2) If opening organizer when set to optimize for computer screens orgainzer opens showing the right colouring. Chaning to optimize for printing and update thumbnail causes the colouring the change. Changing back to optimize for screen and the image corrects it's self. Changing back to optimize for printing and any subsequent changes and the colouring stays correct.
So in summary the first thumbnail viewing optimized for printing is over satuarated / vivid. Changing colourspace away and back seems to correct the problem.
If the colouring is correct for one photo it will update to be correct for any other images viewed.
If there is a way to make optimized for printing photos display correctly on first opening that would be great.

Elements Organiser - Copy photos to location

Hi,
I have been a mac user for a long time and just moved to pcs. For organising my photos i decided to use the Elements organiser.
My only problem is that with iPhoto it used to move all the photos i import into a /pictures/iphoto directory or something like that. Is there a way to make the elements organiser do the same?

Nikhil,
When you upload pictures from your camera, you can direct PSE where to store them by defining the location in the appropriate Preferences dialog. From the Organizer's menu, click on Edit > File > Get Photos and Videos > From Camera or Card Reader. You can do something similar for pictures you scan in the Scanner section of the Preferences dialog. Once set these preferences will be used automatically unless overridden.

Premiere Elements file type for Elements Organiser

I use PSE13 organiser ( for pictures and movies) and editor. I recently purchased Premiere Elements 13 and have just edited my first movie.
I would like to only access Premiere Elements via the Photoshop Elements organiser, but I am unsure what file type to save my Premiere edited files, so that they can be imported and tagged in the Elements organiser, and also played via the elements organiser.
I only want to run one organiser. Is this possible and what should I be saving my final Premiere files as after editing. ( in the same way that I save a PSD file to a JPG once editing is complete in elements editor.

Your choice of export to conform to the support of the Elements Organizer seems limiting to me. But....
If I have a 1080p30 Timeline in Premiere Elements 13 Editor project and export it

with Presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30
That file saved to the computer hard drive can be taken into the Elements Organizer 13
a. displaying a thumbnail with an image from the video
and
b. can be played back in the Elements Organizer 13 player.
I have not gone through all the export choices to sort out which formats will do likewise. But, this particular AVCHD.mp4 (1920 x 1080p30) result is
as described.
What is your export choice now and is the end product importing into the Elements Organizer 13, displaying there, and playing back from there?

Elements Organiser with iPhoto

Is there any way to use Elements Organiser along side iPhoto but keep it from creating a duplicate photo library? I want to keep iPhoto as my library organizer, but wanted to use Elements Organiser periodically to use the "create" tools like cards.

You can set up the PSE Editor as your external editing application in iPhoto preferences. You can then edit photos directly from iPhoto.

Elements Organiser won't start

My Windows 7 laptop recently shut down for no reason and since then, the only way I can access Elements Organiser is through the Picture Editor. If I try to use the desktop icon and select Organiser, I get the hour glass for a second or so and then back to desktop without the programme opening. Any ideas?

Try creating a shorcut directly for the Organizer.Go to : C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Adobe\Elements <version no> Organizer
There you will find PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe file
Right click on it and select Create Shortcut. If it creates the shorcut there only, cut it and paste on the desktop. This will launch Organizer directly.

I have a similar situation. In upgrading from Elements 7 to 11 all my keyword tags are lost; both in the keyword panel and the tags on each of my imported pictures. I didn't install the Elements 11 I had a tech do it when I took my computer in for other issues, so I'm not sure of any of the specific steps taken when this was done. Any way to get these back short of "tagging" each picture again?

Elements 11 problem

computer notice comes up saying "Display driver has stopped responding but has been recovered............then the editor viewing frame freezes but sound keeps going.............then entire program stops.............once whole software deleted! PAID to have it retrieved!   Now it reloads but i lose the new work. Frustrating..........................has worked ok for 2 years,although i would like to push the contrast/bright/light effects further..............
if anyone knows reasonably priced better edit software i would be interested! any thoughts?

also there was a note from Dell to do a system check up which I did but then it said overall result-not supported/system tests not successfully completed...........says to shut down and try again but now I can't see where to activate test!(icon is gone)
also found an Adobe/elements 11 update device and that is currently being processed............
seems like we may be heading in a good direction...............

Thanks for the reply and the information that your Premiere Elements 11 is running on Windows 8 (presumed 64 bit) computer.
Because you come with a display issue, the first line of troubleshooting is targeted at the video card/graphics card that the computer uses.
This information can be found in the computer under the Device Manager/Display Adapters. And then you tell us what is listed under Display Adapters...you may find one or two names listed. Please report what you find.
In Windows 8, one way to Display Adapters listing
a. From the Metro App Screen, type Control Panel in the Search that appears to the right of the screen, and then click on Control Panel in list below.
b. In Control Panel, click on the header "Hardware and Sound"
c. Under Device and Printers, click on the Device Manager choice
d. In the Device Manager, open the Display Adapters category to find your video card/graphics card information.
There may be a keyboard shortcut to Control Panel (I know it is there in 8.1 64 bit)...Windows Key + X and selecting Control Panel from pop up at right of the screen. You can be in the Desktop App or in the Metro Screen when you do the Windows Key + X.
Once we know that, we will ask you to go to the web site of the manufacturer of the card and determine if you have the latest version of the card's driver installed.
If all this is going to be too much for you to handle, then it might be a good idea to consult with the people who installed your Premiere Elements 11 for you.
We will try to walk you through whatever we can.

Audio transfer elements premiere 10 to elements organiser 10

I am trying to get sound on movie clip in Premiere elements 10 copied onto a section of a slide shoe created in Elements Organiser 10.
I have tried unlinking the audio and video on the movie clip and then deleting the video but although the audio can be copied it does not paste into the Organisor
Anybody have any advice /suggestions on how this might be achieved.

Start from the slide show project. Then click:
Output >> Edit With Premier Elements
Right click the exported slideshow which will show as a single clip and choose break apart.
The add the audio from your video clip and mix the sound as appropriate.

Hi,
The D7100 requires ACR 7.4 to read the NEF files.
You would need Photoshop Elements 11 to be able to install that ACR or version 12 which has it in already
You could get Lightroom but if you do any manipulation of images using layers and the like, you might still need an editor like the Elements editor. Lightroom doesn't have facial recognition if you use that facility.
