Elements Organizer "fails" to import photos

Since having to reformat my computer and reinstalling Elements, I cannot get the organizer to recognize my photos in "my pictures" folder, nor will it manually import them from the folder. I get "import failed" and no reason given. I just uninstalled and reinstalled the program and I get the same error. I have a grand total of TWO videos in my organizer... that's it. I'm at a loss as to what to try next - I'm about ready to purchase a different program and forget about the organizer. Any thoughts?

Hi,
Yes, sorry I haven't gotten back there to answer your question... but actually instead of trying to import all of my photos, I was just trying to import 1 folder that has no periods in the name and only has about 6 files in it - all .jpgs (and none of the files named with periods either) and at first it appears that it is importing (I see the dialogue come up with a percentage of completion briefly) and then I just get the generic message "import failed". I don't understand why uninstalling and reinstalling didn't do anything. One suggestion I read somewhere was to delete the preferences file - unfortunately I cannot find any .prf file on my computer let alone in the place where the adobe article says to find it.
Thanks again,
Maureen

  • Window 8.1 is not allowing Elements Organizer 11 to import pictures from SD card into Organizer

After installing Windows 8.1, I am no longer able to import pictures from SD card into Organizer as Elements simply stops working after Import from Card reader is selected. Obviously I am shutdown from importing pictures.

Windows 8.1 is not allowing Elements Organizer 11 to import pictures from SD Card in card reader into Elements Organizer. The Elements Program goes to a blue circle and the program times out.
    I have:
    Tried different SD cards
    Tried different card readers,
I can import off files or folders. However card reader does not show up on this menu within Elements.
There is obviously some workaround that could be contemplated BUT Elements Organizer cannot import from SD card in card reader and this is a very inconvenient situation.  It worked fine in Windows 8.0.
I would appreciate a reply. Thank you.

Is is possible to import photos directly from my scanner?  My scanner does not show up under the import menu.

Unfortunately, you're in the wrong forum.  This is not the Elements forum.  Elements is not Photoshop proper.

  • Elements Organizer hangs on importing iPhoto library

    Hi all!
I am trying to import my complete iPhoto library into the Elements Organizer. I chose file→import from iPhoto and it does start some copying process. Then it starts another copying process but stalls after about 10% is done. What also surprises me is that the command import from iPhoto doesn't show any dialogue with options to choose, like "convert albums into somethings". It just start a process. Is it possible that Elements Organizer doesn't support blank spaces as characters in file names? I think it stops when showing some image file I have that has a space character in the file name like "Cologne II.jpg"
The Elements Organizer hangs so badly I have to force-quit out of it.
I am using Elements Organizer 12.1 x64 on Mac OS 10.9.4 and iPhoto 9.5.1 (sharing a library with Aperture 3.5.1).

And this is what it looks like. I have taken screen shots:
First it does this until finished (100%):
(It's German and it says, "3238 of 5748 files are being copied").
Then comes a new window showing this:
(This one says, "38 of 5748 element(s) imported")
and then this just stops at 10% looking like this until I force-quit the Organizer:

  • Organizer Fails to Import?

The Elements 9 organizer has been working fine.  Everytime I add new photos to My Pictures directory, and start up the app, I'm notified that new files exist.  I'm shown previews of the new pictures,  I "Select All" and add the new pictures to the collection.  Starting yesterday, it all goes exactly as before until it starts to import.  At this point the import fails...telling me "Nothing was imported The files or folders selected did not contain any supported file types or the files are already in the catalog"  The selected files are not in the catalog and are JPG files from the same camera I've been using.  I've checked the forum for answers.  The subdirectories contain no special characters, the filenames are automatically sequenced by my camera and look fine.  I also tried to "Get Media" directly from the "File","Get Photos and Video" menu selection...same results.
If I startup the Elements Editor, select the same files and open them all, then select "Organize Open Files" from the menu, the app reads them in and organizes them fine.  What's happened to the Organizer?  Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Try re-naming the folder or open the folder in Explorer/Finder, then select all and dreg them into the open media browser.
If that doesn’t work then the Organizer preferences may have become corrupted, needing to be automatically re-built on a re-start.
     Close Elements.
    Navigate to:
    John > AppData >Roaming >Adobe >Photoshop Elements >9.0 >Organizer
Delete the PSA file (with key symbol) and delete Status.dat
    Re-start the program
N.B. replace John with your own user name or click the start button and select your user name above documents.

  • How can I import photos from iPhoto '09 to Elements Organizer 10 while keeping the tags attached?

I have spent a ridiculously long time tagging photos in my iPhotos but I would now like to transfer all my photos to Elements Organizer and preserve all the work I had done.
From Adobe's help website (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/elementsorganizer/using/WS73c05ee9864270ea-417df45c129593bfa05 -8000.html) it says I can import the tags along with the photos but does not explain how:
"Elements Organizer 10 supports importing photos, along with their associated captions, tags, and ratings, from iPhoto. You also have the option to import information such as events and albums to maintain the organization of your library"
When I follow the steps outlined on the website my photos are imported but there are no tags attached to them. I am particularly interested in keeping my facial tags but I suppose it would be useful to know how to keep other keyword tags and ratings as well.
There was a previous question put out on the forums similar to this but it was unresolved and the person decided to just leave everything in iPhoto. I really would prefer to transfer all my photos to Elements Organizer. I don't like the way iPhoto organizes photos but I had to deal with it for several years before I bought Elements Photoshop with built-in Organizer.
    Please Please help!
    Many thanks

You don't import one library to another.  Just copy the library from the iBook to the Pictures folder on shout new MacBook Pro. If you have another library already on the MBP rename it so you don't overwrite it with the old library.
Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the newly copied library and let iPhoto convert it to the new version.
Do you have photos in the library on the new MacBook Pro that you want to combine with the older library?

There is no standard field for faces. To transfer information you must put it in the standard place that the new program will use. That does not exist for faces. One work around would be to use keywords. You include the available metadata in a photo by checking all if the boxes when you export the photo(s). What the receiving program is determined by the authors of that program. All iPhoto can do is write what it offers to the IPTC & EXIF fields which it will

  • "Copy files on import" checked and greyed out in elements organizer 12

Elements organizer 12. Importing from hard-disk. Want to import without copying files, but the box "copy files on import" is checked and greyed out.
Remains so even when selecting a fresh jpg file. (Import with copying is not a good option: eventually more than 50.000 pictures and videos are to be imported -
I would have to delete my main media file structure in favor of adobes internal storage. Major hassle right at the start of using adobe's software..).
    What can I do ?
(I found the same question several times on the internet, but no useable answer).

If you are also using iPhoto; Elements will make copies to your hard drive to prevent corruption of the photo Library. The choice is Organizer or iPhoto to manage your images or you can use iPhoto together with the Elements Editor; in which case you need to set Elements as your external editor within the iPhoto settings.

  • Photoshop Elements Organizer quit unexpectly when accessing photos.

Why does photoshop elements organizer quit when accessing photos?

Try selecting the thumbnails (Shift+Click) or (Ctrl+A) to select all, then click on the top menu
Edit >Update Thumbnail For Selected Items
If that doesn’t work close Elements and delete the thumbnail cache which sometime becomes corrupted. Navigate to:
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\<Catalog name>
Inside the MyCatalog folder (or whatever name you gave your catalog) you should find a CACHE file:
    thumb.5.cache
After deleting that file restart the elements Organizer and wait whilst it regenerates thumbnails.

  • Photos not uploading into Elements 9 Organizer, hourglass icon vs. photo?

When uploading photos (jpeg) today into elements organizer 9, rather than photos appearing they come up with hour glass icon in each square.  When I double click on the icon the photo appears.  Any remedy suggestions will be appreciated.

Just a thought, you might try resetting the Organizer preferences.
The photos are deleted from my CF card when using a card reader.

  • Elements Organizer 12 doesn't generate thumbnails for .mpg videos produced by Premiere Elements

    I just upgraded from Elements+Premiere 11 to version 12, on Windows 8.1 x64.
I produced a 1st .mpg file (HDTV 1080p 25 img/s), and imported it in Elements Organizer.
Unfortunately, the Organizer doesn't generate any thumbnail for the file.
This is a new "behavior" of the Organizer 12, because the Organizer 11 use to generate thumbnails properly.
I tried to manually update the thumbnail (right click), but after waiting several seconds, there is still no thumbnail appearing.

    Olivier
Here are the results from my test of your situation where you tried to import 3 Premiere Elements 12 created files into the Elements Organizer 12 after their creation and save to the hard drive.
The 3 files from Premiere Elements 12 were
Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG with Presets = HDTV 1080p25 High Quality
Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG with Presets = HDTV 720p25 High Quality
    Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG with Presets = HD 720p25
The same scheme was used for each, and the results were the same for each...
Imported into Elements Organizer 12, File Menu/Photos and Videos/Files and Folders.
In the Elements Organizer 12, each imported with a thumbnail displaying only a filmstrip icon.
Next I double click the thumbnail and got playback of the video in the Elements Organizer 12 without issue.
Next I right clicked the thumbnail and selected Update Thumbnail. It did within a few seconds. The thumbnail then displayed the first frame of the video.
I ran this test on a laptop with Windows 8.1 64 bit computer operating system. Installed on this computer along with Premiere Elements 12...QuickTime latest version, iTunes latest version, a PowerDVD player. Windows Media Player 12 appeared to be there but not yet activated. No VLC player or other.
For the moment I am assuming that codec were essentially from QuickTime and from what Premiere Elements 12 brought along.
    More later.

  • FAQ: My files are missing from Elements Organizer, or How to reconnect your images?

    What is Elements Organizer?
The Elements Organizer can be used to arrange, codify, systemize, group, and classify your media. When you import your images and video into the Orgnizer, you are adding information about your files to a catalog. Your files remain on your hard drive where they were, unless you are importing them from a camera, in which case the files are copied to your hard drive to a location of your choosing.
What is an Elements Organizer catalog?
The catalog is a database that stores information about the files you've imported into Elements Organizer. When importing a file, the first thing Organizer does is collect the file's name and location on the hard drive. If the file has any attached compatible metadata, such as keyword tags, these are imported as well. You can use multiple catalogs and yourr catalogs can be carried forward from version to version.
Why does Elements Organizer say my files are missing?
Since the catalog database only stores information about your file, and not the file itself, if any of that information is changed outside of Elements Organizer, the connection to the file is lost. There are three ways this can happen: the file name is changed, the file location is changed, or the file has been deleted. If you need to rename, move, or delete a file, you can do so within the Elements Organizer, and then the connection is not lost.
    What is Reconnecting?
When a file has been renamed, moved, or deleted, the catalog database needs to be updated with that new information. The Reconnection process allows you to point out a file's new name, it's new location, or to delete the database entry on your file if the file no longer exists on your hard drive.

Anything besides reconnecting all the files, such as switching the drive letter  (if that is even possible)?
The easiest way to fix this is to change the drive letter. Here are instructions for Windows 7: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/ht/change-drive-letters-windows-7.htm
To prevent this from happening again, you can change the drive to some very high letter, like X:, and then it should remain constant. In Lightroom, right-click on the top level folder ,and select Find Missing Folder, and then point it to your X: drive.
I know I can "Import---Add to catalog"  all the photos from my external hard drive back into the catalog but I do have a question:
I won't address your question specifically, since re-importing is a very bad idea. A very bad idea. You will lose information that is not in the sidecar files, such as collection members, edit history, flags, virtual copies, stacks and a few other things. Just don't go there. Change the drive letters, as I explained.

  • Lightroom not importing photos.  Gray box appears.

I was tethering to Lightroom and suddenly the program failed to import photos.  All that would come up was a gray box.  I tired everything.  I re-started the program, my computer, my camera.  2 days later, and I still cannot get an image to show up in Lightroom.  Any advice?

    Thanks Keith,
I talked to a support person, and it turns out that my cache was the problem.  He re-named it and I am back in business.  Thank you for your help!

I downloaded and installed Photoshop Elements & Premiere Elements.  I then launched Photoshop Elements Organizer and imported approx. 28,000 photos (including some videos).  A window opened indicating that many of the photos had tags, and asking if I wanted to add the tags.  I said yes, and the process began.  When it reached 60% a window opened indicating that "Elements 13 Organizer has stopped working", with the only option being to "Close program."
I've since tried to open organizer several times, but it goes immediately to "Elements 13 Organizer has stopped working".  I was able to open Editor, and tried opening Organizer from Editor, but encountered the same problem.
FYI, I have an open case (#0214505556), but have not received the help I need.

This issue is with respect to Elements 13.
