Elements: redundant directory tree in folder view

I'm running Elements 10 on a Mac that uses Lion for the OS. Recently Elements suddenly stopped displaying images retrieved from my card reader. Upon examination of the directory displayed in Folder View, I was puzzled to see redundant (needlessly repetitive) subdirectories and folders. Ultimately I am able to locate my files and view them in the Media Browser. However, I find this to be inconvenient and also I abhor messy directories. An important point here is that the Folder View in Elements is not the same as what I see in the Finder. Very weird! Can someone suggest a fix? I've already tried repairing and optimizing the catalog.  TIA!

This feature exists only in thumbnail view. In folder view pictures are displayed folder wise.

  • Duplicate folders NAME~1 appear in PSE9 Elements 9 Orgainser folder view

I am running Photoshop Elements 9 (PSE9) in windows7 and I am having a problem of apparently empty duplicate folders in Organiser's folder view (thumbnails on the right, Windows Explorer type folder list on the left).
A new apparently empty folder structure has appeared on in the folder view, identical to my main set of photo folders but containing no thumbnails and with a truncated folder name, eg DigitalPhotos becomes Digita~1 and FamilyandFriends becomes Family~1.  If I delete any of the apparently empty subfolders in the duplicate folders, it deletes all the real jpgs from the hard drive and they show up as a missing file when I click on the proper thumbnail in the proper folder. It would appear to me that the catalog is referring to the same underlying file at two points for my whole catalog.
As the folders are apparently empty there is no ability to use the delete file option and uncheck delete file to delete only from the catalog
    I have tried..
    - catalog optimise
    - catalog repair anyway (no faults found)
    - catalog repair rebuild visual similarity index
    - deleting the thumbnail file from ProgramData\Adobe\etc. then rebuilding all thumbnails (took hours) - I thought this had solved the problem when I checked very late last night but it wasb back when I turned on the computer this morning.  I am now questioning whether in fact this solved the problem or if this was my imagination/ lack of sleep
They clearly shouldn't be there and I am concerned that double-links to the same underlying file will cause me corruption-related trouble.
Any ideas?  I am really concerned the whole thing is going to crash on me and erase endless hours of work.
    Thanks
    Kimberley

  • Problem With Elements 10 Organizer Showing Wrong Files in Folders (In Folder View)

I just got started using Elements 10 on Windows XP and have had some problems with the Organizer. Once it was installed and had cataloged all my photos, I made sure to only move files and folders to different locations from within Organizer. However, now it seems to have lost track of which photos are in which folder. It will "remember" that there are 3 photos in a folder (in Folder View) and only show three photos in that folder, but they will be 3 random photos from a different location. Opening that item shows that thumbnail and referenced file are the same, so it isn't just a thumbnail problem. And looking in the actual folder with Windows Explorer shows that right photos. I'm not sure if I should run an Optimize or Repair on the catalog or if there is something else I can do to fix the problem. I don't need to use Folder View too often, but sometimes I do and I use it to reorganize the actual locations of files. Not sure what would happen if I did it now (with the obvious catalog confusion).
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    torreyindy

Image size.  I have been scanning old 35mm images.  Any image greater than about 8100 pixels causes thumbnails to fail - this sounds like being around 2 to the power of 23 but what a really odd combinatin that is.
8100 pixels? All of my photos are larger than that, and I don't have this problem. Do you mean 8100 pixels on a side? There is a known limitation in PSE that photos above a certain pixel size on a side cannot be displayed in the Organizer. I no longer remember what that size is, perhaps someone else can chime in. Scanning your images to be 8100 pixels on a side would be overkill for me; however maybe for you its an important thing to do.
I have about 10,000 photos in the catalog but need to load up about another 5,000 historic images, and we take about 1,500 images per annum.
This is not a problem for PSE.
I have played with databases, so if i can get into the organizer database (at least to do backups), ideally with Access, that would be brilliant.  Any suggestions?
If you are going to play with the database through Acess, I think you will fail. I believe that PSE uses SQLite as its database, so you have to use SQLite to view the contents. If you are going to do this, work only on a copy of the database. As this is a long-standing bug in PSE (since at least PSE6), and no one that I know of has found a workaround, and people have reported that the rest of PSE behaves as if the photos are where they are expected to be, my guess is that the bug is in the way PSE displays the photo location in folders. And if that's the case, that the database is correct and its only the display that is incorrect, then there's really nothing you can do to fix that; monkeying around with the database itself won't help.
whereas I had complete confidence in Adobe products being a long time Photoshop fan, I am now taken aback, so any help would be much appreciated.
I agree with you, this is a shame that PSE has this problem and it has gone unfixed since PSE6. Your choices are:
use tags and captions and notes to organize in Thumbnail view, and not use Folder Location View
stop using Organizer, use your operating system to browse your folders, only use the PSE Editor
switch to Lightroom, which has a quality Organizer (called the "Library Module") that doesn't seem to have this particular bug, and in general seems very solid, behaves well and is relatively bug free. (Lightroom 3 currently on sale in the vicinity of $79 (USD) as the anticipation is that Lightroom 4 will be released soon)
switch to other organizing software, there are many, but I make no recommendations as I have tried only PSE and Lightroom

  • PE4 - Organiser Folder View shows the tree twice

My photos are stored in C:\documents and settings\user\my photos. (Win XP Pro) When I use Folder view in PE4 organiser it shows two trees:
C:\my documents and settings\user\my photos and then under that a new tree
    "My documents and settings\user\my photos".
Both trees take me to the same folder my photos. Its very confusing for someone not used to it.
How can I remove one of the two trees from view? I have tried hiding and also removing but both appear to be default

I have the same problem and assumed it has something to do with how I "added" the watch folder.
I am going to play and see if that's the problem.

  • Elements 9.0 - Sorting images by Date/Time in Folder view

  • How to repair Folder view after Move

After several moves of pictures to a new disc (via File, Move within Photoshop Elements Organiser 9) the folder view no longer shows the correct photos.
The photos are in the correct locations and the properties also show the correct location.
If I select a directory in folder view however, several photos are shown that are not in that directory.
I tried to repair the catalog, but that didn't change the problem.
    Any ideas?
I am very much missing a facility in the Organiser to move directories, a complete directory tree or just the disk letter of my catalog.

    See:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Move_your_photos
    (still true in PSE9)
    and
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Folder_Location_view
I have found many posts about this bug and I am not sure its reasons have been understood, since it seems very difficult to reproduce the situation when it does appear. I am not sure how to correct that bug. I have never had such a problem because I work normally in thumbnail view, although the folder view is useful for me in certain circumstances.
Moving the folders by drag and drop in the left panel in folder views should work.
Moving folders from a drive to another should also work.

  • How to make folder view static on shared volume

I have an external drive connected to a Mac Mini (10.6.8).  We use that external drive as our shared network drive.  4 Macs and 2 PCs access the drive.  Please tell me how I can alter the ".DS_store" file on the SHARED VOLUME so that each user can expand disclosure triangles, etc. on the server volume, but each individual user isn't affected by how any particular user is viewing the folders.  Right now, if User #1 expands a bunch of folders, all of the other users see that, too.  I've done this before, using the Terminal.  Alas, I've lost the directions for that.  I believe it involved changing the permissions on the "DS_store" file on the server volume.  Thanks in advance.

    The following should work
    cd /path/to/the/folder
    chmod 444 .DS_Store
Repeat for each folder of interest.
If you have an entire directory tree, you could use something like
    cd /path/to/the/top/folder
    find . -iname .DS_Store -print0 | xargs -0 chmod 444
The 444 is read for owner, group, everyone else, and no write, and no execute permissions for the .DS_Store file.  No write means no one should be able to change the contents of the .DS_Store file.
The find command will start at the current folder, then walk down the directory tree looking for all the .DS_Store files and pipe those files to xargs which will execute the chmod 444 command for each .DS_Store found.
Does this sound like what you did before?

  • No directory tree on POP3 accounts vs. IMAP accounts on BB Passport

    Hello,
After the setup of 4 different e-mail accounts in the BB mail client of my BB Passport I discovered that I cannot see the directory tree of the typical elements of inbox, sent files, outbox, drafts etc. if I want to look into some stored e-mails.
If I touch the headline in the mailbox of one chosen account (e. g. “Freenet”) – nothing happened. It is the same case in 3 of those 4 accounts. If I got an e-mail and I touch the “file/store” symbol I could see the above mentioned directory tree. In that case I can click on inbox and it seems that the e-mail is stored.
If I would now go back and look for former (already stored) e-mails which I couldn’t see any more in the Hub I cannot expand the tree from the account headline.
The only account which is working fine is the IMAP account of Google Mail. All others are POP3 accounts. Is there any reason that there is no directory tree displayed in POP3 accounts? Is this a bug or is this intended? At home I use outlook and I have no issues to see such a directory tree for the same account on POP3 basis.
Usually I wouldn’t work with IMAP but other mail programs like k9 (which is working fine -> sideloaded) are not implemented in the Hub-structure. That is the reason why I installed all my accounts on the BB system directly.
Is there anybody who could help me with an explanation or with a workaround to fix this issue?
    Thank you in advance!
    Software version: 10.3.0.908
    Kind regards,
    Tenonen

It is not the kind of sync I am looking for or I am expecting...
If I store an e-mail from one of my POP3 accounts starting from the Hub surface (total view of all events/inboxes) I can see that short tree of four elements (inbox, sent...). But I cannot find it if I would like to re-open my inbox of a POP3 account like I can do it with an IMAP account.
If I choose my Google Mail account from the Hub preference "google mail" and I touch the head-line of this IMAP account the tree pulls down. If I choose one of my POP3 account from the Hub preference "Freenet" and I do the same (touch the head-line of the account) no tree will be opened.
It is no problem to see all my requested things in k9 as an alternative e-mail client. But the disadvantage of k9 is that it is not embedded in the Hub-architecture.
John_Clark, maybe it is now more clear to understand my issue.
Thanks for your reply in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Tenonen

  • In OS 10.7.5, how do I get a listing of folders similar to the "directory tree" that I used to have when I was suffering through MS-DOS?

In OS 10.7.5, how do I get a listing of folders similar to the "directory tree" that I used to have when I was suffering through MS-DOS?

I'm not quite sure what it is you are looking for, but there are a three different ways to view the files and folder in a directory in Finder - Icon view, List view, or Column view - or you can use Terminal and use the various options for the ls UNIX command for listing a directory. For those options, see:
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man1/ls.1.html
    Hope this helps.

  • PI 7.11 sp6 Integration Builder - folder view error

    Experts,
We recently installed SAP NW PI 7.11 (ehp1) up to sp6.  This is a new install.  We did all the wizards, etc and things are basically ok.
we execute SXMB_IFR, then go to "integration builder" link and login.
If I change the view from "object view" (icon of 2 people) to "folder view" (icon of folder), we get the following error:
class com.sap.guid.GUID:library:core_lib at com.sap.engine.boot.loader.ResourceMultiParentClassLoader at 2353f67e at alive incompatible with interface com.sap.aii.ib.bom.gen.XiReference:sap.com/com.sap.xi.directory at com.sap.engine.boot.loader.ResourceMultiParentClassLoader at 79c008cf @ alive
I found this note, but it does not quite describe my problem:

I searched all through SDN and OSS, nothing yet.  I'm going to put in a message but I was wondering if anyone out there has seen this?
    Thanks!

    experts,
FYI, ready my problem details but I wanted to add one thing.  Apparently were were at sp5 for a brief time and our developer did create some object while at that level.  He reported the issue since we moved to SP6

  • Single click folder name to expand folder in folder view?

As with prior versions, in [Windows] Explorer's main window, you can enable hovering to select and single clicking to expand the folder (but that is a pain in the rear when working with files). Windows XP folder view nicely allowed single clicking the folder name to expand the folder. Was that removed from Windows 7? Looks like the only way to expand a folder in folder view is to either click on the small plus sign or to double click on the folder name.  Or is there a switch somewhere I am missing? Thanks.

"...Things are worse than that now... When you single click on a folder name in the folder list, the folder contents show in the right hand file window, as usual. But, when you use an arrow key to move to a folder name in the folder list, the folder
contents no longer show in the right hand file window...."
The option  seems to be disabled. It is in Explorer>tools>folder options>navigation pane>"automatically expand to current folder" (win7 v6.1
Excluding this extremely useful feature really cripples Win7Explorer. I was spoiled by w9x and XP explorers. I am new to MS forums. Is there a moderated microsoft forum where this question can be posted, in the hope that a patch is produced?

  • Create folder view with files and tasks

    Good day to you,
we want to support our software development procces with Vibe. What we are doing is, we make changes to the source code and protocol corresponding things in certain files.
We think in so called "releases" and every release consists of tasks and a list of changes. This list is held in an excel file, so I would like to create a folder view, which consists of tasks and files.
So far I could create a custom folder view with attachments at the top and a task list at the bottom, based on the task family.
The problem is, the attachment view as a standard folder view does not allow colleborative editing of attached files. You can only view and download attached files, but not open them via Office addin. Therefore you can not lock or version files, which is mandatory for collaborative work.
I would like to mix the file folder view with it's possibilities with a task folder view.
    Any ideas?
    Warm regards
    bitschnau

There's no out of the box way to achieve what you're looking for.
    Two solutions:
    1. Your users would need to open the entry first and then click on the "edit this file" link.
    2. You could code your own folder view or landing page element and build what you need.

    Cheers

  • Best practice for designing a directory tree

    Hello all,
I wanted to know what you all think about what is the best way to design a directory tree. Again it seems to me that experience makes the man perfect and I wanted to know what you all think about how to design directory tree model.
Here is my view; I believe that keeping at least Users/ Employee information flat make more sense to me. I know it’s a good idea that one should consider an organizational hierarchy when designing a tree. But there seems to be some problem too. If employee moves from one department to another within the same organization then directory administrator has to change the location/department of the user. However, if all users are under the same namespace i.e. ou=Users, administrator does not have to change or move users location in the directory to another location.
Also, while designing a directory there could be several hierarchy, one is organizational hierarchy another could be organizing user info based on job roles i.e. CEO->VPs-Managers->Consultant.... and so on so. So which one should consider. So by considering ou=Users namespace, we are avoiding risk on favoring one type of hierarchy.
The trade-off in using ou=Users a flat namespace is that browsing of the directory looks less interesting.
Anyway, this is my view, I would like to know your views too and hope this thread will help other in building their own directory Tree.
    Thanks
    Syed Suhail Ahmad

Honestly it really depends on what you need your system to do and how you want to handle administration. I have read the argument about keeping things simple with using ou=USERS and seems like the best situation for administration purposes. Currently my client is wanting all identity management to be handled in OID so I am in the process of doing our hierarchy also. I still have to explore the abilities of OID to see how I can set things up.
There are a few good books and websites that are good for referencing ldap. One book I use is LDAP Programming, Management, and Integration by Donley. For websites, just search on google or check out www.ldapguru.com or www.openldap.org(possibly).
Hope this helps a little. I honestly can speak on the best way since I haven't implemented my own yet nor do I think one way will always be best for every situation.

  • Hidden network drives "home" and "net" shown in folder view Adobe Bridge CS5 / Lion Problem

Updated to Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion and got this "problem":
The hidden network drives "home" and "net" shown in folder view Adobe Bridge CS5 (unlike in 10.6 Snow Leopard).
Normally these network drives are hidden (in Finder and other Apps) - but Adobe Bridge CS5 is showing them, despite "show hidden files" is unchecked in Adobe Bridge.
Not a dramatic "bug", but it also shouldn't be a big problem for Adobe Bridge engineers to solve this. My first question to the Adobe Support was answered like: "we don't know what Apple did change, so we cannot do anything". Hmmm, are you serious?
I tried to resolve that problem by myself but failed. So, if an Adobe engineer is reading this post: perhaps Adobe Bridge is ignoring the automounter master map (that was my approach to resolve it):
    # Automounter master map
    +auto_master                    # Use directory service
    /net           -hosts                 -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
    /home                                        auto_home       -nobrowse,hidefromfinder
    /Network/Servers               -fstab
    /-                              -static
You cannot do anything to these folders, so it is not a serious issue, but, I mean, did someone at Adobe check compatibiliy with 10.7 and ignored this issue? If so, are there an other issues ignored?
But I guess, the compatibilty update for Bridge CS5 for Lion is Bridge CS6 - to be fair: I also have to say, that in general Bridge is running okay on Mac OS X 10.7.2 (but could be better, as always;)

    Hi Curt Y,
thanks for your answer! Yes you' re right, I forgot to mention that ... before I posted here, I sent a bug report via the Apple Bug Report webpage about the issue ... of course, here are 2 parties involved.
I had a similiar problem once and I got a meesage back from Apple: "that it is a 3rd party problem, sorry" (it was about color management).
I am just a user and I often feel very strange about Apple's (topsecret) communication behaviour ... Whatever, what do I know about software engineering? - Right.
Maybe someone on this forum has an idea, because I'm afraid, thus it is not a serious bug, no one would take care about it in the next time (during my research I found an older post here on the forum about the same problem ...).
    thanks for help in advance,
    jobumac

  • Where is the file that contains the folder view setting?

I know this questions been asked before but I can't find it and cant remember the answer. There is directory file that holds all the file and folder setting and if a persons deletes it, essentially all the files and folder view setting revert back to default view, which is a white back ground and icon view. I can't remember enough the name of the file to know for sure I am getting the right one, could some please quickly refresh my memory for me. I would appreciate it, Thanks Gf.

I believe that that info is stored in the .DS_Store file in the relevant folder. Since it's invisible, you can either use one of the tricks to make the Mac show invisible files (Google will help you there), or you can use the Terminal. To delete it, in the Terminal, type "cd" (minus the quotes), then a space, then drop the folder in question on the Terminal window and hit return. Then type "rm .DS_Store".
