Elgato EYE TV EZ Experience

I have been thinking about Elgato product for my iMac G5 but i am not sure about the efficiency/quality of TV adaptor for Desktops
Has anyone experience the eye TV EZ? I am quite interested about this one to use TV and most of it plug in a Nintendo, but not got the best feedback.
Is it really nice and fast stuff like elgato pretends?
If you have any feedback, you are welcome...

I currntly own a EyeTV USB, an older model, while I'm not going to tell you that I have HD quality, it is a clearer picture than what you'd get on you run of the mill TV connected to a cable box.
on an iMac, you'll notice the fans rev up a little higher than normal.. the EyeTV is software driven not hardware driven, so it'll tend to get the system quite hot if running for hours on end. Though, it'll be fine to watch an evening of prime time TV, just don't leave it running all night as you may eventually fry something. (like a G5 CPU)
If you do get this Elgato product and you do accidently leave it on over night and wind up with unusually fast running fans, shutt off the iMac and manually restart the system holding the power button until it makes a funny beep noise. This will reset the section of the mother board that controls the system fans.
I hope this helps!

I can't answer you specifically on the EyeTV EZ but for what it is worth, I have an EyeTV 200 and am impressed with the quality of the hardware and software, ease of use of the software and the quality of the picture I get when I watch a show or record it on my hard drive. I believe the software you would get with the EyeTV EZ would be the same so that part directly applies. But hopefully someone else will jump in with their impressions of the EZ hardware and its picture quality.

  • Late 2009 iMac running Yosemite freezing and won't wake up when Elgato Eye TV starts to record?

As above really, not much more to add.
My husbands late 2009 iMac recently upgraded to Yosemite (latest update installed yesterday) freezes while in sleep mode and has to be 'force shutdown' by holding power button down and then restarted to get it going again.  Recording is stopped.
The Elgato Eye TV is a dual tuner with latest update.
Sometimes it wakes the computer up and begins recording, sometimes not.
No key taps or mouse jiggles get it to wake nor a quick press of the power button, I can hear the computer running and have to hold the power button down until all is quiet then fire it back up.
Other times it just doesn't wake the computer at all and start recording.  I am all out of things to try, I think he had this problem before but not as badly when the iMac was running Snow Leopard.

    Hi Boaz,
I´m facing exactly the same with my Mini which is remotely controlled by a MacBook via Screensharing. Everything works fine unless the Mini goes to sleep. After that I´m not able to wake it up by the MacBook and Wake on LAN (Wol). Even the share is not listed in Finder´s sidebar anymore. It simply doesn´t show up in the share sections anymore. When I log on to my router I can see, that MacMini is not active and I can send WoL package from the router. That brings the Mini back alive, although it still doesn´t show up in the Finder sidebar. When I connect to the Mini via Finder "Connect to share" and type in: vnc://ip-MacMini I can use screensharing again.......
Also I faced the problem with indexed network phantoms....means my Mini was listed in network shares with several different indices e.g. MacMini(2) and (4) and so on..... I wasn´t able to connect and curiously these phantoms show up even when my Mini was shut off! Looks like bonjour or something else is not working properly....
I fixed phantoms by reseting my router (AVM firtzbox), which worked out perfect since yesterday and no indexed phantom is showing up anymore.....
Haven´t fixed the screensharing or waking up thing yet....
I was also taking part in beta testing program and reported these problems to Apple. In Mavericks everything worked really perfect!

  • Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?

My mac mini has Elgato 'Eye TV' software that runs in 'Full Screen'.  I want to keep this setting & also connect another monitor to the macmini & use other Appilications on the other monitor?  Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?
    My early 2009 macmini can run Mac OS 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8

Yes, run one from HDMI and the other from Thunderbolt/minidisplayport sockets. In EyeTV Preferences check the screen you want for full screen use and make sure your Dock is on the other one.

  • Problem with elgato eye tv and IMac movie languages

I live in switzerland and we have same movie in tv that we can choose the languages Italian or English.
I have the elgato eye tv Hibrid and I have a problem whith the languages. When we have movie that you can choose the languages the  the Mac and the Elgato spooke simultaneously with both languages. One audio in Italian and the other audio in Inglish. How can I choose only one langueage?

Also, note since you are running 10.6, it can't be on a PPC Mac.  10.6 only runs on Intel Macs.

  • Elgato Eye TV 250 makes iMac "pop"?!

Just hooked up Elgato Eye TV 250 a few days ago to my new (Christmas) 24" iMac which has worked flawlessly from day one. I now notice that whenever the Eye TV application is open, every so often I hear a single pop come through my iMac. I haven't timed it, but I'm guessing it happens maybe twice every half hour (?). I am using a pair of external speakers (Altec Lansing) that work without any problems. I can't really tell if the pop comes from the speakers or from the computer itself. It's not a huge deal--a little annoying perhaps--but just thought I'd see if anyone knew what this was or, more importantly, if it could be doing any kind of damage?
    Thanks!

I've been using my eyeTV with my iMac 24" for just about a year with Comcast digital cable. I am able to view HD (16:9) content on those channels that are not scrambled. Today, I added a Direct TV STB (not HD) and I'm able to view razor sharp digital 4:3 as my STB is not HD capable. I don't have a HD box handy, but I would suspect that if you have one, you should be able to view the D*TV HD programming including movies. I know someone who also has the D*TV HD bundle and he routes his composite video out to a Samsung DVD Player/Burner. He can create movie DVDs in 16:9 "HD" using this setup. His TV is connected via HDMI from the DVD player so he can watch those movies in real time as well.
My only question right now is that while I can see the D*TV Guide on my mac's screen... when I switch channels with the mouse, it shows the change... but remains on the previous channel. So I have to use the D*TV remote to switch channels... a real PITA.

  • Elgato Eye TV for recording TV to iPod

I'm considering buying Elgato's Eye TV in order to record TV shows to then transfer to my computer and iPod. I see that they now have Eye TV2, which has the ability to transfer to iPod, however, I can't really tell if this is just the software to go with the Eye TV unit, or what. Since I'm not interested in doing a whole lot of this, I don't want to invest a great deal of money. Also, does anyone currently use Eye TV, and if so, which model is best suited to use with DirecTV?
I'd also be curious to know how long it takes to convert the files so they can be used in iTunes?
Any thoughts or experience will be greatly appreciated.

NikR, I bought a new iMac in December and soon followed it with an Eye TV device which I bought from the Apple Store in Sheffield. The Apple Genius there was really helpful and said that the Miglia (http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/61114042/wo/ij4RhNFXhqg12VsV kMJ20RccOyM/1.0.21.1.0.8.25.7.11.3.3)
was cheaper and uses the same software as the Eye TV I was looking at (http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/61114042/wo/ij4RhNFXhqg12VsV kMJ20RccOyM/3.0.21.1.0.8.25.7.11.2.3).
The main difference apart from the cost is that the Eye TV comes with a small aerial, whereas you will need to plug your house aerial into the Miglia.
Actually I have the Eye TV set up with my house aerial as I am in a weak signal area and need a higher aerial to get a good picture. You can get all Freeview radio and TV channels and the software is very easy to use. The images when produced onto DVD are excellent. I use Roxio Toast.
    Hope that helps.

  • Elgato Eye TV Hybrid S-Video signal shows no colors

    Hi,
I have an Elgato Hybrid for my MBP. When I connect my Sony dvd-recorder to it (thru S-Video) I get a sharp picture but it only shows in black and white. No colors.
I have a professional scart to S-Video cable. Someone suggested me to change the settings of my MBP but I don't know where or how this can be done.
Perhaps I have to alter the settings of Eye TV as well? I don' really know.
Settings are correct; Eye TV input is set to S-Video

Seems the settings of my dvd-recorder were not correct: when I changed them to S-Viseo out all was working well.

  • ELGATO EYE TV ?

I saw an ad for elgato eyetv and was wondering if anyone has used this? I would like to be able to use my laptop as a tv monitor and then be able to record the shows I watch and save them to my laptop or an external HD. I subscribe to Comcast digital cable - anyone have experience with all of this? Any advice?

BUT, what if I've already recorded a show to my DVR cable box, and then hook that up to my laptop, and then re-record the show using Elgato? That way I believe any show is recordable because it already has been recorded right? I'm wondering if there is a better software solution to try and do this than this Elgato tv thing. I'm not interested in using my laptop as a tv monitor and getting tv channels. ALL I WANT TO DO IS SAVE MY ALREADY RECORDED TV SHOWS (THAT ARE ON MY DVR HARD DRIVE) ONTO MY LAPTOP AS MPG FILES OR SOMETHING OF THAT NATURE AND HAVE THE ABILITY TO DELETE COMMERCIALS AND SUCH.
I wonder if this is possible? Any ideas?

  • Elgato Eye TV for DTT

I am thinking about buying the eye tv for dtt for my imac g5. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information about exactly what channels you can watch and if you need to plug into a freeview box to receive channels - will it be the same as the other eye tv products and if so, will i be able to watch all of the same freeview digital channels that i receive on my freeview box on normal tv set? Just wondered if anyone out there can help a bit before I buy one - any ideas what high street shops sell them and how much they are?

  • Elgato Eye TV 250 question

Hey guys, im not exactly sure if this is the right place to post this but whatever... i'll post it anyways. I was wondering if this product is able to allow me to record video
of me playing halo 2 onto my computer and put it in I Movie
so that i can edit it.
(thanks in advance for any help you can offer)

If you mean recording while you're playing HALO on your Mac, then no. It records from a video input or external source. What you need is a screen recorder program.
Well if you were playing HALO on a game console (say, XBOX) and inputing the video feed in the EyeTV 250, then yes. If you go to the Elgato homepage it's all there. They refer to it as "Game mode".

  • Elgato Eye TV & iPad

Has anyone found the Elgato TV Tuner work on an iPad ?
This nifty device is great to use to watch and or record FTA TV to Apple. I have used one and was considering getting one for my MBP anyhow. But what a neat way to watch or record FTA TV with this tuner if it could be used to load an iPad through the camera adaptor.

Can't connect it to the iPad (and don't really see why you would want to).
But what a neat way to watch or record FTA TV with this tuner if it could be used to load an iPad through the camera adaptor.
Why use the camera adapter? You can send the EyeTV recordings directly to iTunes and sync that way.
Or you can stream live/recorded TV directly to your iPad from EyeTV.

  • Elgato EYE TV recording export to FCE 4.0

    Hello,
Quick question ( maybe not so quick ). I know analog cable TV is interlaced. Does final cut require that video clips from a live TV recording ( from eyetv) be de-interlaced before editing and exporting ? I notice if I don't do this fast motion comes out to poor to watch. I get a strobing like effect.
    Thanks
    Carmine

    Thanks for your answer,
I am still a bit confused, being a former Windows PC person editing with Sony Vegas 7.0. Final Cut is a bit different. Perhaps you could give me a few pointers. i want to record TV using Elgato Eyetv hybrid, export the recording into Final Cut Express, edit commercials out, add chapters export into iDVD and burn. When doing this with sporting events I get bad motion blurring making the DVd unwatchable. Any help with what the best settings are would be appreciated.
    Thank You

  • Record TV with Elgato Eye TV and Comcast

Right now we have a Tivo and we want to get rid of it.
Our TV is down stairs along with the Comcast DTA100/2305/000 Cable Box.
Our Mac is upstairs along with the cable modem.
We also have a Apple TV and not sure if comcast basic cable is encrypted?
What do I need to do to get this to work?
    Any suggestions?
    Brian

Again, what does this have to do with the ATV?
The ATV is a media streaming device, not a cable box replacement or DVR.
