Elgato EyeTV Hybrid tips & tricks

I didnt know where else to put this so im posting this here. I'm looking for any tips & tricks or whatever you want to call it with the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid for Mac. Reason this being is because im using an Xbox 360 with this and i feel my experience could be much better, with quality and responce time.
I know all the Converting/Encoding whichever is all being done by the iMac so i suppose id have to live with the response time but is there anything i can do to the settings for quality? Anything you want to suggest please do, id be happy to try it and give feedback.
Thanks

There is no interface with the Eyetv to the Dish receiver that would permit channels to return. Your Eyetv is only as good as the channel the reciever is set to. In other words, your Eyetv will retrieve any channels that are not regulated by a reciever to interpolate them, ie: "Over the air" and/or a "straight cable connection" without a set top box. Whether it be a Dish network or a local cable company, any circumstance of a set top box will not be compatible with Eyetv for the lack of it's abilty to change the channels on that box. The only circumstance I have ever seen is when a viewing/recording device has an IR blaster that transmits the channel selection to that set top box and changes the channels much the same as you would with a remote. That being said, there is still the issue of that particular device knowing the IR codes to your particular box.
Your Eyetv is good for "Over the Air" and/or a straight Cable coax connection only. Sorry.

  • EyeTV Hybrid - burning recorded TV to DVD

Hello, I was going to post this in the User Tips section but that section has had a bug all day and has not let me post. Anyway, does anybody know if you can burn recorded content from EyeTV Hybrid with iDVD already installed with OSX, or do you HAVE to purchase Toast? Toast is an awesome tool, but this is for my mother computer and she does not need/would not use any of its features.
On the website (http://www.elgato.com/index.php?file=products_eyetvhybridna) it does say you need Toast to burn shows to DVD to watch on your TV, I'm just wondering if that really is the only way. It seems like the iLife apps could handle this task.
    Thanks

I don't know just how to explain a disk image, except when you open one, it become like a separate hard drive. If you are in iDVD, go to the File Menu, and down to Save as Disk Image. Save this on your desktop. Then, from the finder window, go to the Go Menu, down to Utilities, and open Disk Utility. You will want to open the disk image by double clicking it. Then, burn it from Disk Utility. If you search the Knowledge Base, or the iDVD discussions section, I'm sure there is a better explanation.
    Good luck!

  • Install eyetv hybrid software on new Mac mini

I just bought the new Mac mini ( without DVD drive) and was wondering if there is any way to get the eyetv hybrid software on it?  I previously had the old Mac mini and was able to insert the DVD for the install.  I just didn't think about that before buying the new one.  I searched the Elgato site but couldn't find the software. Maybe someone her can help?
    Thank you,
    Craig

    Hello Craig,
Do you have another Mac you can use Disk Utility on to make a DMG of the Install Disc, & move that to the new Mini?

  • Eyetv (hybrid)

look, i wasnt sure where to post this question!!!!
i would want to buy the hybrid elgato hardware + software, but i am not sure about one spec....
could i use this in the middle of a park, street???
like where would i get a portable antenna for this???

(old man voice) "Back in my day, we didn't have any fancy cable TV, we used an antenna. And we liked it!"
I assume that you mean over the air broadcast and not wireless TV.
The EyeTV Hybrid can display and record any over the air broadcast. It does not come with an antenna, so you will just need to stop in to Best Buy and get one.
No box is required, but you will likely get better reception with one, depending on where you live and how strong of an over the air signal you receive at your location.

  • Did you know-? Animation Tips & Tricks

Did you  know that you can animate any object you create in Project ROME – and  that it's easy to do too? Just follow these quick steps (and be sure to  have your timeline showing – View > Show Timeline):
1.Select the object you want to animate
2.Click on the stop watch in the upper left of the timeline
3.Drag the top arrow within the timeline to indicate how long you want the animation to talk place (e.g., 10 seconds)
    4.Animate!
You can drag the selected object to create an animation path, change the object's color or even transparency. Check out this latest video on more about creating animation: http://bit.ly/9m4ug4. Let us know how this works for you and if you have any suggestions or questions along the way!

  • Thinking of getting EyeTV Hybrid to convert VHS to digital - the right move?

    Hello,
I am soon going to be going back to Macintosh after a failed 17 year experiment with Windows and one of the things I will be wanting to do is transfer some home videos I own into a format that I can edit likely using I-movie.
I have reviewed several discussions on-line, and think I will be going with EyeTV Hybrid but I am wanting some fresh advice to make sure I am making the right decision.  The videos I will be wanting to transfer come in, what I believe, are two analog forms VHS-C (which I would play back using a VHS cartridge converter as the camera is dead) and Hi8MP which I would play back using a Samsung SCw62 Camcorder.
Essentially, I am looking for a good conversion but it does not have to be great.  I would like to be able to do some editing once they are converted, but these are home movies and I am treating them that way and not looking at producing a professional quality video.
So here are the options I have gathered online.  As I said, I think I am likely going to go for EyeTV Hybrid but would appreciate any feedback as to whether it’s the best option for me or whether I should be considering something else. Money is an issue and I really don't see myself going much above $200 on this.
From what I have read, EyeTV Hybrid seems like it might be my best option.  Its priced at around $150 which fits my budget and I understand the results are fairly good.  Any reason why I should be wary of this option?  Is it fairly straight forward to use? From what I understand, I all need to buy is this and it comes with the necessary software – am I correct?
I have read that video pass through in which the camera essentially converts analog to a digital signal. This does NOT appear to be an option for me unfortunately.  As I mentioned, I own a Samsung SCw62 Camcorder and I also own a Sony HDR-CX110.  Reading through the manuals I could see nothing that would suggest they could do this but I would be delighted to be informed that I am wrong.
There appeared to be a consensus on the threads I read that the Grass Valley ADVC300 analog DV converter would produce a high quality transfer.  However, the price that I have seen is about $400 and this is far more than I am willing to pay and I haven’t seen a used one on ebay.
The ADVC110 does fit my budget but I am wondering if it would be much better than the EyeTV Hybrid as the prices I have seen have been a little more than $200.
There appears to be a consensus that the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD will result in a fairly low quality video and is not recommended. Anyone disagree?
Are there any other options I should consider?
Finally, as I noted I want to make some nice home movies using my old analog tapes is there any reason why investing in Final Cut Express would help in the conversion process?
Thanks to everyone for your help.
    Cheers

There appeared to be a consensus on the threads I read that the Grass Valley ADVC300 analog DV converter would produce a high quality transfer.
I have a drawer full of analog-to-digital converters (including the EyeTV Hybrid).   After using the Grass Valley ADVC300 I find nothing else acceptable.   I appreciate your concerns about the cost you just have to decide how important these videos are.
Compared to today's standards DV Video's quality is not that great, so I don't want to lose ANYTHING in my conversion, I have no quality to "spare".
I've played around with countless other conversion systems, ranging in price from $79 to $399. Short verison, this is the ONLY unit to own. No dropped frames at all, even with questionable quality tapes, no jitter, great color, excellent sound quality. Zero setup with iMovie 06 and iDVD 09/11.
This is a prosumer deck. The time code function is alone worth the price if you have old analog footage. Absolutely NO "Out Of Sync" audio.
ADVC300 is for anyone who wants to do editing and is concerned about quality of color and speed, for the novice it is an incredible gizmo that will restore VHS tapes to a state close to the original fixing midtones, highlights and shadows on the fly. Not only can you simply convert analog to digital you can actually manipulate the signal going in (if you want to).
A bit pricey but it WORKS.

  • DIY Fusion drive with elgato, eyetv 3

I've got the imac 27" 2011, and I have set up a fusion drive and generally I have no issues with it.
However when watching TV (a waste of an imac i know) with elgato eyetv, it pauses every so often. Generally if you listen during this its because the main drive as reving up as its gone to sleep, I know in the system preferences I can tell it not to spin down, but that will cause the drive to eventually fail.
My questions are really to those who have a fusion drive (from the apple directly as a preinstalled build) if anyone else is running the elgato eyeTV 3 and experience anything similar?
Or to everyone else can the Fusion drive be altered so that the live TV stream gets written to the main Hard drive rather than to the SSD?
    Any thoughts?

The drive will fail no matter what you do with it. That is the fact of hard drives and drives in general.
So stop putting it to sleep and stop the waiting.
No it can't be altered as that is what a Fusion drive is. The System determines what data gets written to each drive not the user. If you want to make that choice then you should not be using a Fusion drive setup.
Also with ANY Fusion drive When, Not If, Either drive Fails they both fail and you are left with Nothing. Kind of like RAID 0 (Zero).
I personally would never use a Fusion drive setup. Better to have a slightly bigger SSD and a secondary spinning drive to store data on. Like moving your "i" tunes, photo and other User/library files, Doc and Downloads, to the spinner and leaving the SSD for the OS and programs.

  • Overclocking the i7 in Tips & Tricks

Harm Millaard, the hardware guru from the PrPro forum has just posted a LINK to his overclocking the i7 guide, in the Tips & Tricks sub-forum.
If you're considering doing this, you might want to give it a read.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

My i7 rig is with a socket 1156 board, an Asus P7P55D mobo, and an 860 CPU. I know the Corsair DDR3 memory @ its stock 1.65v simply doesn't run at 1600mhz like it says on its box - 1333mhz seems to be its stability wall.
I upgraded my Q6600 and Asus P5B deluxe rig because so many people said to never consider overclocking on an editing rig. Was that over-cautious advice?

  • Business Workplace - "Tips & Tricks"

I've just noticed a very, very cool feature in Business Workplace. When you go to your Inbox, and you hover over "Tips & Tricks," something appears, a bit like a Windows tooltip, except far more useful and far less annoying.
Does anyone know how I can get such a feature into an ABAP programme I write myself? It looks like it should be easy - probably something like set a property on an object and watch it happen. But I can't work it out, I think I must be looking in the wrong place...

    Hi Robert,
The Preview Pane utilizes HTML controls. A new item for the "Tips & Tricks" is selected every time you click on a different workitem or deadline message. Function module SIN_WI_PREVIEW_TIPS gets the tip and builds the HTML.

  • Tips & Tricks to manage time to contribute in SCN

    Hi SCN Mates,
The question of managing time to contribute in SCN and be in the top list of contributors is always a challenge, I wonder how other guys are managing it along with project work and personal life.
Through this thread I would like to ask all top contributors to share few tips on how do you manage your time to contribute in SCN and be in top?
I know with dedication and knowledge, at same time everyone will have their office work at priority after family/personal time.
Also contributing for an hour daily is also not possible because you never know whether you get ideas within an hour ;-).
Anyway, share your tips & tricks...
    Thanks,
    Umashanakr

People who become Top Contributors fall into two main categories
Category 1 - There is no need to know anything about SAP at all, but since they are SAP professionals at the end of the day, they know enough to get points. They spend all their time on SCN, Must follow every single member of HCL. Must go to each blog and like it ,and write "thank you". They  read every question posted on the forum, whether they know anything about it or not, and reply to it. They have excellent google skills, so they google the answer and post links in reply to every question. They could vary their approach by becoming active in Coffee Corner as well. Soon they will have million points and be a top contributor.
Unfortunately, this method is not for those who have family/work/other commitments which are more important.
Category 2 - These people have built up a tremendous amount of knowledge after years of practising in the business. They are genuine experts. They do not come into SCN with the sheer intent of accumulating points. However, when they do come in, and see fit to respond to a post, it is invariably the correct answer or  very helpful, that they get marked accordingly. These people post thoughtful blogs or comments or documents or discussions, which are useful and appreciated by the community and they get marked accordingly. Sooner or later, without really trying, but by simply practising their profession, these people accumulate enough points to become Top Contributors.
These people do not have a set strategy intended to accumulate points, but they do have a set strategy of being good and knowledgeable at their job. They manage their work/life balance in a way that suits them to achive this goal.
I am afraid there is no fixed way to achieve lofty goals with little or no effort.
There is a 3rd category, who are pretty decent in their knowledge and sporadically answer questions when they feel like, and who randomly get points for their responses, and they will never become top contributors, however, they are not too worried about it, and they do get to spend time with their families/other interests. This is a technicality that need not detain us.
    YMMV
    Hope this helps.

  • TV on Macbook: Elgato EyeTV

    Hi,
I am going to university this year and need a notebook. I am torn between a Vista Sony Viao and a refurbished Macbook.
One of the main tasks I need it for is to watch and record TV.
How good is the Eye 2 software on the Mac compared to Media Centre on Vista?
Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I've never used any Windows tools, but my EyeTV Hybrid and the EyeTV 2 software is my only receiver for HDTV in my house. I have an indoor HDTV antenna hooked-up to my EyeTV Hybrid and I can watch 26 channels in HDTV from over the air. I've never had any significant trouble with it or recording TV shows. The folks at El Gato have always kept their software up-to-date with Mac OS X and QuickTime. They'll even direct you to a beta copy of the software if they think it will address a problem you're having. I've had three different EyeTV boxes (the very first original EyeTV from 2002, an EyeTV 200 that they gave me a discount on when my original EyeTV died four years later and then the EyeTV Hybrid I got when I decided to drop cable TV in favor of over the air HDTV) and would have recommended each one when they were current.

  • ECC 6.0 Upgrade - Tips, Tricks, Lessons Learned needed (Esp. in SD, LO, MM)

    Greetings Experts!
I am searching for information and/or documentation in regards to tips, tricks, lessons learned, and "steps to take" while upgrading to ECC 6.0 (from 4.6c, to be specific).

  • Canopus ADVC300 vs Elgato Eyetv 250 for A to D video conversion

I need to digitize several shelves of old commercial and homemade VHS tapes and convert to DVD with iMovie/iDVD and Toast (I use iMovie 6). I have looked at the Canopus ADVC300 and Elgato Eyetv 250.
Would someone comment on how these 2 devices compare regarding quality, ease of use AV synch etc. Are there other products I should be considering.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Cannot comment on either, BUT:
I use the Canopus ADVC110 which does a superb job - and is cheaper than the 300!
AFAIK the Elgato is a TV tuner and recorder, but not a converter to DV that iMovie can use.
