Hi, i'm trying to update my GarageBand version 1 to version 2. When I try to install it, it keeps saying 'An eligible GarageBand application was not found in /Applications'. What should I do?

I want to import mp3 files into Garageband so I can
edit them, like Fruity Loops. Is this possible with GB 1?
Yes, drop the mp3 into the GB timeline.
I saw a Media Browser in the tutorials, but I can't find it in GB 1
The media browser is just eye candy as far as Mp3s are concenred, and doesn't exist in GB1, or GB2 anyway.

Upgrade from iPhoto 6.0.4 to 6.0.6 - "an eligible app not found..."

Hi all-
I was trying to update my brother's iPhoto 6 app to iPhoto 6.0.6, the latest download I could find. However, I can't install it, as when I get to that point in the installer, it tells me that "an eligible application can't be found in /Applications/iPhoto.app"
Do I need to do the 6.0.4 to 6.0.5 to 6.0.6 dance in order to do this? Or is there something else I'm missing?

Well, yes, I just installed a new drive in his iMac 800, and so the first thing I did after I put Tiger on the drive and moved all his old stuff over from the temp storage location was to run Software UPdate. Somehow it missed iPhoto...
And the 1-release-at-a-time 2-step isn't all that unusual...back in the "classic" days it was always necessary to go from one iteration of an OS to another. I can remember well re-installing 9.04, then moving up through 9.1 to 9.2.

IWeb 2.0.3 won't update my iWeb 1.1.2

I just updated 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 and now 2.0.3 says there is not an eligible application to update and refuses to install. What is going on? And since I am completely unable to edit the text links on my webpages I think I would like the latest version I can have. What can I do?

You need to purchase iLife 08 to get a newer version of iWeb. No free updater will take you to iWeb 2 or newer from any version of iWeb 1.

Update 7.1.1 problem

I'm getting this alert when trying to update Logic Express:
'An eligible Logic Express application was not found in /Applications.'
However it's there and it's working (version 7.0.1). I installed the original Logic Express again from the dvd but I'm getting the same alert.
What am I doing wrong?

Yes, same problem for me!
Running fine (7.0.1), never moved out of Applications, but Software update didn't download, and when I run the update manually, it says there is no eligible application found. Same thing here, store-bought copy (Amazon), normally installed. I was about to re-install, but from the other posts here, I gather I won't as it doesn't solve the issue ?!!...

Updating iWork 09 with Lion

So my iWork wont update because of an issue that the update program is having. When I try to update the software it gives me an error meassage that says "An eligible application was not found in the location / Applications/ iWork '09."
I've had this problem since I stepped up to Lion. Anyone know what I should do?

If you originally got the iWork applications from a source other than the Mac App Store, yes. If you got them there, all the updates will come through it.

Help. Need to remove item from the "open with" menu

Does anyone know how I can remove an item from the "open with" menu?

You could try removing the quicktime .pkg files from the receipts folder in the root library.
The system has to go somewhere to determine eligible applications it can use to open a file.
Each application would contain its base settings in its receipts file.
Once you delete the receipt you should delete the application and reinstall it.
The reinstall will write a new receipts file.
The receipts file is used by your system when it repairs disk permissions.
The system does not just add a setting.
For example if you take a .png file and click on it and look at what can open it you may get a long list.
If you choose "other" from the get info "open with" menu and have acrobat reader installed in applications, it will show as an application you can choose.
That application, however, is not in the drop down list.
If you choose acrobat reader and apply it to the file type, it will show as the default.
If you then choose another application in the list and apply, Acrobat Reader disappears from the list.
The system only shows files in the list that advertise to the system that they can read the file type.
You have a system which is populating the list with legitimate programs that are compatible with the advertised file type.
It is reading that advertisement for the quicktime application somewhere.
The configuration is written to each file individually, you can choose to have a single file associated with a particular application or have it apply to all files of that type.
Check in Spotlight for a copy of the application in another location.

Appstore submission - com.apple.transporter.util.StreamUtil.readBytes(LJava/io/InputStream,)[B

Hi,
I currently try to upload my application I registered on iTunes connect and now has the status "waiting for upload" (to the mac Appstore).
Now I get this error message when I press the submit button:
com.apple.transporter.util.StreamUtil.readBytes(LJava/io/InputStream,)[B
That happens in xcode 4.0.2 with the organizer and with application loader 1.4
I already tried to reinstall xcode 4.0.2 and the ios sdk 4.3 three times as suggested elsewhere and also clean deinstalled xcode before with:
sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools –mode=all
I also tried to downgrade again to xcode 3.2.6 However it had no effect - I still get the same error.
When I try to downgrade to application loader 1.3 I get the message:
"no eligible applications were found"
So I even don't get to the point of uploading...
What can I possibly do now? All the suggestions with reinstalling don't work for me and I can't make sense of this error message.

I've heard it can take a week for everything to take effect on the backend - there are many components. You could be right on the edge, since it seems you've done due diligence on your end.
Can only suggest you keep trying for a few more days and then start contacting Apple to see if there is an issue on their end. A phone call might be the most direct method in that case.

IDVD wont open-- software update issues

Im having issues with the iDVD application. I click it open, and it bounces on the dock, but then it freezes. I cant open an existing DVD project directly, or through opening the application first. I thought it might need a software updated (its version 6.0.4) but when I downloaded the new version (7) the software package said there wasnt an eligible application found.

Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
• Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named: com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.

Upgrades not allowed

I have recently had to reinstall my software and am using OS 10.4 but iPhoto is 5.0.4
I have downloaded the dmg to Upgrade to iPhoto 7 etc but when I try and install it I get a message saying that "an eligible application is not found" on my harddrive.
Please what do I do to get round this

What you do is purchase iLife 08 which contains iPhoto 7.
Updates are free: 5 to 5.0.1 to 5.0.2
However, upgrades you have to purchase: v5 to v6 to v7.

I'm haveing this very same problem. I've tried to repeat all that you did to fix this and I still get the - "An eligible Keynote application was not found in the location /Applications/iWork '09."
Although my iWork '09 file was in it's proper place - (Applications folder) and it included Pages 4.1, Numbers 2.1 and Keynote 5.1 - I have been unable to update my iWork apps. I've downloaded all updates from Apple support to install updates direct - (the app store does NOT recognize my iWork '09 suite). But no luck.
I have created a new folder and put it in my applications folder - then named it iWork '09 and moved the iWork apps into it then tried the update but no luck.
Any thoughts?

No, there is no need to re-purchase iWork. If it was installed from a retail boxed DVD, it needs to be reinstalled from the DVD. If a license was purchased electronically for the iWork '09 trial, reinstalling from the downloaded dmg will need to be done. Thx, but i had already read that and tried it: did not work.
Got it fixed now by reinstalling Logic Studio 9 from DVD.
That indeed creates the Logic Pro folder in Applications - something I had tried earlier by simply moving my existing Logic folder. This means the Logic 9.1.5 update does not simply check a folder name: there must be another entry/registry entry it checks. Reinstalling Logic Studio from scratch solved it for me.
After reinstalling thought Lion forgot my Focusrite Saffire 40, so no DAW. Solved that by reading a forum entry on beta drivers.
So I am happy, music creation wise.
Left for me is to solve the X Mail application saying it does not run under Lion!
