Eliminating blank pages caused by conditional text

Windows 7 32-bit
My PDF file contains extra blank pages caused by hidden conditional text. All files are set to "Delete empty pages." Is there anything else I need to do?

The blank pages do not use custom master pages and do not have any empty carriage returns. However, because of the way the page break happens to fall, the marker for the hidden conditional text is the only thing on the blank page. If a hidden condition marker is the only thing on a page, can FM not delete the page?
Also, is there any way that FM can ignore a file in the book that is 100% conditional, and not create any pages for it in the PDF?

As a part of my requirement, I am developing XML report template that has first page as "statement of account" and second page as "remittance advice".
Since we require 'remittance advice' in fixed position(for scanning barcodes), we need to have it in separate page. Second page content (remittance advice) will be be produced on certain conditions. When condition is not met it results in blank page.
We have used MS word in-built page break functionality in our template. We have also tried using <?split-by-page-break:?> but this does not work with our condition. It gives no page break and formatting gets messed up.
We are facing same issue in another reports where we need to display 'Remittance advice' on conditional basis.
Did anyone experience such problem? Any help or suggestion to remove the blank page would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Using the page break logicyou provided, word treats it as same page header and I'm unable to place different header for second page here. If I break the link to change header different from previous page and try to give different header in second page this gets reflected in first page as well. So, logically there is no section break here which is required to have different header in MS word. Any idea on this?

How to remove blank pages after endnotes?

I am formatting an academic book, and am receiving each chapter separtely, piece by piece, and each chapter is a separate file. The author wants footnote numbers in the text, but wants the references to be formatted as combined endnotes at the end of the book (not footnotes at the bottom of the page). Each chapter's footnotes begins with #1. I have inserted the footnote numbers, and then gone to the end of the chapter/document and deleted the endnote text from that chapter. However, Word still thinks that the endnotes are there and won't let me delete the extra blank pages where the endnotes text once existed. I have tried going into "Normal" and then Footnoes and removing the "endnote spearater," as well as the "endnote continuation separater": this has removed the lines, but not the pages. Any ideas? Suggestions? What if I don't insert the endnote text at all in each chapter, but simply create a new document with the end of book endnotes - woudl this work? Thanks.

Print jobs come out as blank pages with Windows 7, Bonjour & Canon iP4700

Hi there,
I have a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.6.1 and have a Canon iP4700 inkjet printer connected to this via USB and this works fine.
I've shared the printer from the Mac so that I can print to it from a Dell laptop on the same home network which is running Windows 7 RC.
I've installed the Canon print driver (I used the one for Vista as it was the closest match) on the Windows 7 laptop, then I installed Bonjour. I used the 'Add a printer' shortcut icon on the desktop and it saw the Canon printer and I added it.
I thought all was working well, except whenever I try and print to the printer form the Windows 7 laptop, it just prints a blank page instead of the text I have on the page.
Has anyone got any advice for getting this working properly?

I had the same problem, however I am running XP. Also, I was using a separate program to manage my wireless connection on my PC called 'Wireless Configuration Utility'. I simply disabled this utility and used the Wireless Network Connection utility that came with Windows and the problem was solved.

Blank page appearing in ESS

Hi Experts,
We are using ESS and want to display tax details for Thailand for all the employees. But when we open the page it is showing only the blank page. Rest all the services are working fine.

Hi Shrikant, also check that the resource asociated to the app is pointing to the correct page in Portal (that is compare the 'url of pcd page' property from resource with 'pcd location' property in Portal's page).
Due to some issue during installation in backend, some resources can have blank values in 'url of pcd page' property.
When you see a blank page caused by an error, you can read the Portal's log for the error details. Ask with your Portal guy for open and read the log.

Difficult to Remove Blank Pages Caused by Custom Master Pages Consider the following troubleshooting concerning customized master pages and unwanted blank pages: Make sure you assign default Left or Right master page to the empty page(s) you want to remove. To elaborate: if the empty pages are NOT due to book-level pagination changes by FM when the book is updated, then they could be due to one or more chapters having had user-created master pages assigned to body pages prior to content editing that resulted in smaller chapters. For example, in a 4-page chapter that has the following master page assignments: <ul> Right Left Special_Right Special_Left </ul> If content editing results in a 2-page chapter with only the Right and Left pages and then the book is updated, FM's "pre-historical memory" remembers that the Special_Right and Special_Left pages had been there <can we whisper B-U-G?>, and blindly adds 2 blank pages to the chapter. The way to delete these kinds of pages is to: <ul> 1. Open the recalcitrant chapter. 2. Add a couple of new paragraphs and force them to start at the top of column so that you get 4 pages. 3. Use Format > Page Layout > Master Page Usage to specifically apply the default Right/Left master pages to the two new pages, thereby clearing FM's "memory" of the user-defined master pages having been applied previously. 4. Save the chapter. 5. Update the book. 6. Open the chapter again and remove the two new pages. 7. Inserting blank pages.

Oh my! Have been to the manual but since I am a Sr. Citizen, its information was a little (well, a lot) over my greying locks. Want to add a blank page in a continuous text document (word processing) with photos thrown in from iphoto. Not locked, so the text moves, but not the photos.
There are 109 pages in this document so I am not able to add a blank page between Page 3 and 4, as the thumbnails are all outlined in yellow! Tried sections, but only a blank page appears and it always inserts at the bottom of document. Need help from some real brains out there. Make it simple! Thanks.

Hi Vicki,
Click to place the insertion point immediately after the last text you want to appear on Page 3.
Go Insert (menu) > Page Break. Repeat.
You'll now have an empty page following page 3.
At the bottom right corner of the document window, grab the shaded triangle (three diagonal lines) and drag right to open a grey space to the right of your document.
Click in the grey space to exit Text mode.
With the empty page showing on your screen:
Go Insert > Choose...
In the Choose dialogue, navigate to the file that is your picture, select it, then click Insert.
Drag the photo into position, and resize it as desired, using the handles at the corners.
If you want text to appear on this page, and to flow around the picture:
Make sure that one of the Wrap options is selected, using the Wrap button in the Format bar.
Click immediately before the text on what is now Page 5 to place the insertion point there.
Press delete ONCE to delete the second page break you inserted earlier.
The text will jump up to resume immediately after (or beside, depending on the Wrap option you chose) the photo.

What causes blank pages appearing suddenly in an autoflowed-text document?

CS5.5, english version.
The complete book was built-up and all master pages were applied . When reopening the file, several blank pages appeared at two places in the document. The text flow was not interrupted, but seamed «hidden» under a non-existing white layer. The software showed «Master page applied», but the pages were blank, imposible to select any object or to place a new text frame. It was also impossible to reapply the master page (the pages were still blank after). We could not access the hidden part of text, even if it was obviously still present, and we had no choice but rebuild a new document.
We don't know what caused this very disturbing bug, and we would avoid it to reappear again! If someone knows a trick, you're welcome!

Le livre était monté en entier avec pages maîtresses appliquées. Lors d'une réouverture du fichier, plusieurs pages vides sont apparues, à deux endroits dans le document. Le texte n'était pas interrompu, mais semblait «caché» sous un calque blanc. Le logiciel affichait l'icône de la page maîtresse appliquée, mais la page demeurait vide. Impossible de sélectionner une boîte de texte ni de parvenir à réappliquer la page maîtresse. Nous n'avons pas réussi à accéder à la portion de texte «cachée» sous ces pages vides, bien qu'elle n'ait de toute évidence pas été perdue.
Nous n'avons pas trouvé d'autre solution que de recommencer le montage à zéro à partir d'un nouveau document, mais nous ne savons pas ce qui a causé ce problème, ni comment éviter qu'il survienne à nouveau.
Si quelqu'un a déjà rencontré cette anomalie et peut m'informer, bienvenue!

I'm afraid I don't have any good news for you, though I was able to get the text to reappear by deleting the blank pages and inserting new ones, then rethreading. Youy could do this, but I suspect it is a short-term fix that won't last a day and more important, that output will fail.
ID seems to think the frames on the blank pages are lines with astronomically long lengths and they seem to be sheared as well. Needless to say that seems to be some sort of corruption in the file. The reason that I don't have good news is that I've been completely unable to export anything useful for repair out of the file and reimport it-- neither .idml or tagged text. In all cases I get an error message that the either the file does not exist, it is in use or I don't have permission. I know the files exist -- I can open the text file in a text editor, and I can see the components of the .idml file if I change the extension to .zip, but I can't convince any version of ID to access either of them.
I looked through the file history and noticed that this file began life as a CS4 file that was converted to CS5.5 in August of 2011. I think that's the source of the problem. From time to time we get reports of unexplainable glitches or files that will not output, or just refuse to open at some point, even though they were fine hours earlier, and quite often it turns out that these are legacy files that were directly updated in a newer version. Because of this I now recommend that all legacy files that are to be converted be exported to .inx or .idml from the original version, then that exported file should be opened in the new version.
Actually I had one more thought, and it seems to have been at least partly successful. As I mentioned, I was able to export the main story to InDesign Tagged Text and open that in a text editor (Notepad in this case, since I'm on PC). I tried saving the file from notepad with a new name and lo and behold I can now import it into a new file or use it to replace the text in the original. I tried the replacement, and exporting another .idml. but that still fails to reopen, so the corruption is not in the text of the main story. A .idml file export from a new .indd with the resaved tagged text placed in it also is working.
This means you actually have a good shot at rebuilding this file fairly quickly. Export the stories to tagged text, open those in a plain text editor of your choice and resave as plain text, then place them into a new document with the same page dimensions and margins (rebuild the master pages from scratch in the new file). Make a backup copy of the file with just the text, and make sure it is working properly and that you can export to .idml and PDF, then add the images and check again. I think this is going to work, though it may take a few hours.
DON'T overwrite any of the files you have already -- use new names, and do a save As a the end of each session or at any major change point adding a version number to the name so you have a good backup version chain in case something goes wrong again. Good luck.

On a website clicking on highlighted text in blue, the browser should take you to info on that subject. My Firefox opens a blank page and says "search history and bookmarks." How can I make it go to the info highlighted in blue text? Ver 3.6.15

Usually the browser will take the user to info pages when a click on blue text is done. My browser just opens a blank page and has "search history and bookmarks and then just sits there. I can change that so it will do nothing and the message is "type a web address". It used to work fine. How can I fix this.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

Pressing Enter Button Gives a Blank Page while Cursor is in Text Field

Hi,
I have a problem on my jsp page that there is a text filed (input type="text") and a button (input type="button") to submit the page.
When page loads the cursor blinks in the text field, and at the same moment if i hit the enter button of my keyboard it gives a blank page.
Here the button on page does not clicked by this enter button, no script calls neither the page submitted to the given url.
Kindly suggest what is going wrong.

I'd come across this issue a while back: [http://tipsandtricks.nogoodatcoding.com/2007/07/html-single-text-field-submit-caveat.html]; when there is only a single text field in a form, then pressing enter causes a submit with the text-field as the initiator. The submit button isn't invoked. This means any onsubmit actions will not be called. A simple way out is to put in a dummy text field in the form and set it's display to none (using CSS/styling)

ID CS6v8 -- Blank pages, missing text, slanted cursor, etc.

Having very strange problems with a file.
1. I am getting blank pages where I had completed a layout (yes, I can see elements in Layers and some items reappear if I turn off some items called <group>, but not all.
2. Some pages have missing items. 3. Some pages have text boxes that appear blank where text was previously visible. When I try to repopulate the text box I get a slanted cursor. I can see the text in Story Editor.
3. When I try to populate art boxes, nothing is visible even though it shows up in layers, but not in links.
I think these are somehow related because they all happened at the same time to the same group of pages. The rest of the document, containing the same type of elements, seems fine.
This is a large, complex document. HELP!!!!

Sorry to say that this did not help. In fact, every time I tried to do this, it crashed IND. So, I have deleted the pages that were problematic, added in new pages, and recreated the damaged 10 pages of my document.
NOT A HAPPY CAMPER.
The worst of it is that I have no idea what caused the problem, no way to correct it, and no way to prevent it from happening again.

Performing OCR text recognition in all pages of a PDF document which has blank pages

The PDF pages in the file are scanned as an image, but there are blank pages also. So, page 1, 2 have images of scanned text, page 3 is blank, pages 4, 5, have images of scanned text, page 6 is blank and so on.The series of blank pages is 3, 6, 9....
I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro version 9 on Windows XP. I choose the Document option in menu, OCR Text recognition->Recognize text using OCR->All pages. But, the OCR stops after page 2.
Then, I go to page 4 and find that it is still an image(and I cannot copy the text from it). So, then I have to choose the Document option in menu, OCR Text recognition->Recognize text using OCR->All pages. But, the OCR stops after page 6.
The document has some 200 pages and I don't want to manually do the choose the Document option in menu, OCR Text recognition->Recognize text using OCR->All pages for all pages which have text.
I also tried choose the Document option in menu, OCR Text recognition->Recognize text using OCR->Page 1 to page 200, but that too does not work.
I can manually go to each blank page, delete it, then do the OCR but that would be tedious.
1. Am I missing something in doing the OCR of all pages?
2. Can I set up a batch process to do the delete of blank page series or can I set up a batch process which does OCR of all pages(and does not stop at a blank page) as it is doing now?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hm, you could convert every pdf-page to a image file (jpeg, etc.):
-install the package imagemagick
-use the command convert
convert -trim -density 150 your.pdf your.jpg
This will generate a jpg-file for every pdf-page; "-trim" removes the white margins, density specifies the resolution of the page (you could also try "-resize" instead of "-density") and 150 specifies amount of dots per inch.
This does not generate a new pdf-file, but maybe there is a way to convert the images back into a single pdf?

Since the last update from firefox I can no longer see my e-mails they just come up as a blank page.If I use windows explorer as my browser I can read them ok,what is causing this?

Cannot print -- random text & blank pages when printing -- HP Color Laserjet 3600N

I'm having some trouble connecting my computer and printer via a network connection. The printer functions fine among other computers (Mac, PC) connected via a network connection, but one particular MacBook is giving me trouble.
I can get the printer and laptop to connect, however when I try to print, it gets buggy on me. Usually it will print a page with some random text, followed by an excess amount of blank pages, then another page with text similar to the first. The text usually has information including font types and other formatting data, but not what was "printed."
I have tried to update the printer drivers, but I cannot get the printer utility to utalize them. After installing the most recent drivers, it will continue to suggest the generic laser printer drivers (1.0 verison), or I can choose other printer drivers (including "base" 3000 model drivers), but the 3600N drivers are not avalible on the list. Both the generic drivers and the HP drivers give me the random text upon printouts.
The laptop is a MacBook Pro with 10.6.
What is the best course of action to remedy the printer problem?

Over the holidays, I spent a couple of hours on the phone with HP, a couple with Microsoft, and previously with Apple. Microsoft said they are working on updates, should be fixed by the release of Office 2008. Apple says there's a compatibility issue among the HP printer and Leopard and "some" programs. HP tells me it's an "old" printer (which they were happy to sell me in April 2007) and they may not release new drivers. HP also says Apple knows there are printing issues.
In the meantime, I'm using Pages and shopping for a new non-HP printer.

Dreamweaver CC causes wordpress localhost to show a blank page

I have wordpress set up using WAMP as the local server and it has been working with no problem. Win7 64 bit.
I have just installed Dreamweaver CC and set up testing sites using HTTP://localsite/sitename for several 'normal' website I manage and that was fine i could see them in live view.
I then added a local test site to view the website I manage under wordpress and when I went to live view all i could see was a blank page.
I then closed dreamweaver and just opened my local wordpress site using HTTP://localhost/wordpress and that too just showed a blank page.
I have no problem getting into my wordpress site via the local dashboard but cannot view any of the pages.
I searched the web and tried lots of workarounds but nothing worked. in the end i uninstalled worpress, deleted the wp databse and reinstalled everything with no problem.
Localhost was working with wrodpress again. However as soon as I tried to access the local wordpress site with dreamweaver the problem returned.
This is very frustrating as recreating a wordpress site is not as simple as just copying a load of HTML and PHP pages.
I should add there are no errors shown.
Anyone any ideas?

I have my wordpress files and themes in the correct directories for WAMP. I have been using WAMP to test my wordpress site for some time but opening up the PHP files in brackets to write the code. I have several non wordpress websites I maintain which are written in normal HTML, PHP and CSS and I like to code manually. It is useful tough to write the code in Brackets / Dreamweaver to check syntax and adjust the CSS on the fly.
Everything was working fine until I installed dreamweaver and set up a testing site as you indicate above and now all I get is a blank page not only in live view in dreamweaver but also if I simply type HTTP://loclahost/worpress directly into a browser window. There are no error meesages though not even a 404 'NOT Found' message, just a blank page. I can get into the dashborad though by typing http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/ and all my pages and content is there but if I try to view a page all i get is the same blank page.
As I said I said I totally unistalled wordpress including the database and reinstalled and all worked fine. I could see the site using http://localhost/wordpress/ but as soon as I set up a testing server in dreamweaver the problem returned. Dreamweaver must be altering something in the wordpress files / database to cause this problem.
Has no on else come across this?
