Eliminating iPhoto Support

I long ago removed iLife entirely, and yet iPhoto support keeps popping up in Mail, iWork, Aperture, etc. (i.e. using media to find pictures or attaching images). I want to remove every trace of iPhoto, so which file must I delete in System/Library to successful remove iPhoto library access? Thanks!

Make a back up and then try it and see.
The problem is that you don't know how many other functions - and non-iLife apps - leverage these. For instance, the Media Browser can be used by iLife apps, or any app.  For instance, you can use the Media Browser to access files in any folder you add to it. Now what happens when you destroy that?
Like I say, do you really have a compelling reason to take the risk?

  • Does iphoto support transparency in images?

does iphoto support transparency in images?

Import the photos and create a small test book -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
If the preview is what you want then you can go ahead and create the book, preview it and order knowing tha the printed version will match the preview

  • HT5182 I wonder if iPhoto supports the new Sony DSC-RX100 II camera.

I wonder if iPhoto supports the new Sony DSC-RX100 II camera. I know it is not supported by Aperture. Can anyone help please?

It's the system that supports the RAW formats. So if Aperture doesn't support it neither will iPhoto.
You'll have to wait until a new Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update is issued by Apple for the camera.

  • Does iPhoto support RAW 7D MK2

Does iPhoto support the format of RAW for the Canon EOS 7D MK2?

Yes if you are running Yosemite and have downloaded and installed the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.01 updater.

what version of iPhoto supports raw files for canon 6d? I am running iMac 24-inch with OSX-10.6.8 and iPhoto 7.x, and can't read these files....looking for least upgrade which will enable me to read them.  Thx - //Spud

Not sure what the oldest version is but Mavericks with iPhoto 9.5.1 does - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5955?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Google may help you go backwards if you do not want to upgrade to Mavericks

  • Aperture/iPhoto support

Any ideas on when Aperture/iPhoto will have raw support fo Sony A7II ?

Since iPhoto and Aperture are now dead, there is going to be no reason for Apple to upgrade RAW Support under OS X for the pro cameras any longer because no one with a pro camera is going to use that toy they are calling Photos in the future.

  • IPhoto support for Olympus E-PL1 raw

iPhoto 9 can't recognize raw files from this camera. Will apple issue and update soon. Is there a work around?

I agree with other folks' comments; FYI Olympus has a Mac version of their software "Olympus Master 2" which works ...OK. It's slow as snot but it has code to do the software corrections for lenses (from what I know and for those who don't know the micro-4/3 format stuff, the cameras have in-camera software correction for lens effects, but the RAW format is pre-correction so color-fringing and the like are evident and you can witness the software correcting for it, which is probably why it runs so darned slow!)
So if you would like RAW support in a native app, Olympus Master 2 is an option and it runs on Snow Leopard just fine.
An open question I have is if I had the Panasonic pancake lens (f1.5, YOW) could I use my Oly and import the RAW into a tool that can correct for the Panasonic's lens effects?
Yeah, generally you won't care/notice but if you're shooting RAW, you're picky.

  • Does iPhoto Support RAW from Nikon D90?

I shoot in RAW. I had a D80 and iPhoto would import my RAW photo files ok. I just got a Nikon D90 and iPhoto will not import my files. Any ideas?

    Lee:
In the meantime you might see if Adobe DNG Converter and Camera Raw 4.6 is compatible with the D90. That would let you convert the RAW files to the DNG (digital negative) format which iPhoto does support. There's other RAW converters available. Go to VersionTracker.com and search for RAW.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • HT3825 does iphoto support sony cyber-shot

is my sony cyber-shot compatable to my macbook?

Not under Mac OS X 10.6 for RAW.   10.7 supports it with iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4.  Unfortunately you'll have to kiss your PowerPC software good bye, unless you want to run a special Parallels solution, or a separate partition running 10.6 on your machine, which would require cloning twice to two separate drives, and partitioning for just a 10.7 system with the iPhoto or Aperture version of your choice, leaving enough room for 10.6 and the applications that need it.    For more on upgrading to 10.7 or later see my tip.

Check to see if the Adobe Raw file converter will work with your raw file format.

  • Does iphoto support uploading videos to icloud?

I am having difficulty uploading my videos to icloud via my mac. I can only see my photos on my Ipad despite it having IOS7. Can anyone help?

    From the link I posted
What do I need to be able to add videos to a shared stream?
To add videos to a shared stream, you need an iCloud account, a compatible device, and up-to-date software:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 7.0 or later
Mac with OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later and either iPhoto 9.5 or Aperture 3.5
PC with Windows 7 or later and iCloud Control Panel 3.0 or later
SInce you do not have the required software versions you can not use the feature

  • IPhoto support request

    Hi Folks,
My Macbook Air was out of space, primarily due to my 71 GB of space I was using for photos. Yesterday/today I copied my "iPhoto Library" over to a larger external drive (that I also use for my Time Machine backups). It has finished copying. Then, I held down the option key while launching iPhoto from the tool bar at the bottom and am pretty sure that I chose the correct external drive location as the new default location.
    2-fold question:
    1. How can I 100% verify that I chose the external drive as my default location (so I don't trash my HD library pre-emptively)?
    2. Will my Photostream from my iPhone continue to sync with iPhoto as the iPhoto libarry will be located on the external drive (providing the drive is always plugged in via USB)?
    Thanks for your help!
    adps

    1. How can I 100% verify that I chose the external drive as my default location (so I don't trash my HD library pre-emptively)?
Select one of your photos while you are browsing your library, and then use the command "File > Reveal in Finder > Original File".
It wil show you the image in its folder on the disk. COnvince yourself, that this folder is located on your new external drive. Then you will be sure, that the correct library is used.
    2. Will my Photostream from my iPhone continue to sync with iPhoto as the iPhoto libarry will be located on the external drive (providing the drive is always plugged in via USB)?
The Photo Stream can only be active for one library. While browsing your iPhoto Library in its new location check again the Photo Stream tab of iPhoto's Preferences. You wll probably have to enable Photo Stream again. Better be sure.

  • When will iPhoto support Lumix GX1?

When will Apple provide support for the new Lumix GX1 camera?

No one knows "when", but Apple provides a new update with support for 10+ more cameras about every month, so keep on waiting. Since it's "new", it may take a while.
If you want Apple to include support, you may want to email them here.
