Elite 8300 Ultra Slim Computers won't start.

Over a period of 2 months 4 out of 6 new Elite 8300 Ultra Slim Desktops failed to start. The computers were brought new 10 months ago. The green poer light is on but they will not start. We use them in Samoa, but they are in an airconditioned office, so overheating was not an issue.  Is this a problem with this model. Dealing with HP from our island is a mission, perhaps the forum can offer some assistance.

Hi,
You might get better assistance on the HP Enterprise Business Forum since you have a business class PC.

  • HP Elite 8300 Ultra Slim No Audio via Display Ports -Solution-

This is a solution or a work around to getting audio functionality via the Display Ports on the HP Elite 8300 Ultra Slim and I suspect but cannot confirm as I do not have "other 8xxx models". Normally in the windows sound settings it will offer no options for audio via HDMI, etc with whatever drivers you so happened to install from HP or Intel when using the Display Ports on the machine.
So this is what I did and I replicated it again to be sure.
1.Install the Latest Intel HD 2500 Drivers first from the Intel Website first of course
2.Download the HP Power Assistant Software v2.0.5.1
     http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_102595_1
and install it and suddenly in the Sound settings in the Windows Control Panel you will find it now shows audio devices that are connected via the Display Ports via HDMI , weird I know but it works for any audio device connected to the DP pots via HDMI, etc.
HP Customer Services told me categorically that it was not a function of the 8300 Ultra Slim supports due to the revision of display port it has so I am a bit annoyed that I had to search and search and actually fix it myself.

    Great discovery.
I may experiment on my 8000 and 8200 Elite CMT's.
I would have to remove the video cards I added though.
FYI, so you don't have to go to third party websites, HP does have a direct link to the Power Assistant software you used.

  • Split screen software of LG ultra wide monitor won't start with windows 7 installed with VMWare Fusion

I am using split screen sofware of LG but it is not working for me with vmware fusion 7. Is this a known problem? I am using an ultra wide monitor of LG (29um65), and installed windows 7 on my mac, by using VMware Fusion. But the software won't work of LG. It won't start. LG can't help me, because normally the software is working by using windows 7 on a windows pc. I got it also working on a  mac , when I used other virtual software as Virtualbox VM, but it seems not to work with vmware fusion 7. Can somebody help me with this problem?

yes, I think you are right, but I used virtual box in the past, and had no problem with the LG software, so it has also to do wit VMWare Fusion I think.
Never the less we still don't have a solution :-)

  • Ultra 10 won't start anymore

    Hello,
I have an Ultra 10 box with an extra video card inside. Everything was working fine, and then I got curious and decided to open it up to see what's inside. Now it won't start anymore. I turn the computer on, the fans start spinning, but nothing gets displayed on screen. I can hear the hard disk turning too, and the CD drive is powered, but I don't think anything is going on.
The only thing I touched when I opened it was the extra graphics card, but I was very careful and I am pretty sure I did not fry it. I get nothing displayed on screen when I plug the monitor in the original video card either.
Is there anything I can do to find out what the problem is? Is there some special switch inside the box that I may have turned off without noticing?
    Thanks for the help...

    Hello,
when you removed the ATI Radeon (XVR-100) and powered-on, the long card (Creator3D or Elite3D) with the weird connector (13W3) became the default output device. It takes precedence over the integrated video.
Remove the long card (if you don't own a 13W3-HD15 adapter or monitor with 13W3 connector) and insert the XVR-100 (attach the monitor to the integrated video). If you power-on the integrated video becomes the default. You should see the output on the monitor.
Enter show-displays at the ok-prompt. If only a single entry is displayed, power-down and check if the card is properly seated.
Otherwise press the letter of the entry that doesn't contain /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/SUNW,m64B@2.
This a sample output of an Ultra 10 with Creator3D as add-in board.
    ok show-displays
    a) /SUNW,ffb@1e,0
    b) /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/SUNW,m64B@2
    q) NO SELECTION
Enter Selection, q to quit: b
    /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/SUNW,m64B@2 has been selected.
Type ^Y ( Control-Y ) to insert it in the command line.
    e.g. ok nvalias mydev ^Y
    for creating devalias mydev for
    /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/SUNW,m64B@2
    nvalias mydev ^Y
The above sets the output-device to the integrated video even if a Creator3D is installed.
Then enter setenv output-device mydev (if you used this name) and reset-all. Attach the monitor to the XVR-100.

  • [SOLVED] - X won't start - Missing modules??

    Hello all, thanks for looking.
I have installed from the Arch from the latest media, and followed the Begginers Guide.
I have installed to a partition on my hard disk, one of many, and installed Grub and the mbr.
The system boots fine. ALSA works, Xorg is installed, and pacman -Syu says "nothing to do"
It all seems fine except... X won't start.
I type startx and get the following errors in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file :

    OH

OK. Thank you. You are completely and joyously right.
It would seem that I had neglected to install the video driver.
    Thanks for that.

  • I deleted my extensions manager and now my Mac won't start up. Please Help!!

I have an IMac, 24" model, running OS X. For the past several days, little warning windows have been popping up with this annoying beep, telling me that my computer was infected with various viruses. 4, to be exact. Also, while on the internet, random pop-up windows have appeared, so I thought I did have a virus. So, to correct the matter (or attempt to), I deleted my preferences folder from the system folder, as well as the extensions manager.
Now, the computer won't start up past the white logo screen with the turning gear thingy. I've tried resetting the PRAM, and starting in safe mode, and safe mode with the progress screen, and even something there while holding the option key (that one gave me an icon of my HD, but clicking on it took me back to an endless wait on the white screen). I've tried starting from the disk that came with the computer (I held the C key) but not only doesn't the computer start from the disk, it spits the disk out. I don't understand. The computer was fine until I deleted the ext. mgr and preferences, so it can't be that the computer went bad or something.
I don't know what else to do here. I do have an extended service warranty with Best Buy, but I wanted to see if there was some way to fix this before hauling this thing off to the store. Any suggestions? I'm desperate here, because anything and everything I've tried (based on all the try-this and try-thats I found on the internet), nothing has worked.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

Well done! You've succeeded in turning your Mac into a useless brick.
Deleting the System/Library/extensions folder and the associated manager removed most of the functionality from your OS.
And all to get rid of what sounds like the MacDefender trojan or a variant.
    ref; http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4650 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4651
You may have a slim chance of recovering if it will still boot in Target Disc Mode; in which case you can use another Mac to install the system remotely.
And I doubt your warranty with Best Buy is going to cover user "error."

  • PB won't start, has no power, won't charge BUT I NEED THE INFO desperately

Hello!  As the subject states, it won't start, has NoOoOoOo power, cannot get it to charge (and it's been plugged in now for 2.5 days).  While RIM CS said they might fix it, I need to get the information off the tab first as it's REALLY really REALLY important.
I did post in another thread, but it seems my issue is just a little more challenging that most, as I've tried ALL the "ideas" that I have come across - here and in other site forums.  If only it were as easy as the pins being bent or getting another charger.....
So not only will mine NOT start up, and is COMPLETELY dead, but (and here's the fun part) the USB port has been busted since purchase.  (Thought we'd manage without, but hah....)
    - the battery was NOT fully depleted when it crashed as it does every second day (this was Friday)
    - have a Rapid Charger, and have been using it all along
    - it has been plugged in for DAYS and nothing IS happening; no lights whatsoever
NO light red, yellow, green, or otherwise that comes on when plugged in (or otherwise)
    - Looks like this "stacking" that keeps coming up refers only to when plugged into computers, which I cannot do,
though I did try the 2 min interval anyhow for awhile
    - I DID hold down the power button for 10, 20, 30 seconds per notes on these boards
    - I DID hold down the power button for 2 whole minutes even per some suggestion
    - I DID try the power button with Volume + then with both volumes and power all at once
    - In fact, if anyone anywhere wrote to jump up on one foot, I tried that too!
AND the reason it matters . . . there are photos or someone who has passed away on there that I need to get off before sending for repair (or better yet replacement if there are any left anywhere) and really need to get this thing started again.  Been a long time that I've been trying to get these images off, though I think that's another discussion for when it gets started hm...)
Anything, oh wise BB PB peeps??
    Thanks in advance!!

    chaosdivine thanks for the idea!
Had to laugh at the comment that the USB would be wobbly after some time had gone by.  Mine was broken after first attempt to even use it!
Anyhow, good post, but did all that already.  Plugged in and sit, plug and unplug, plug and try to turn it on, leave it off, etc. and then some etc.

  • I have a used iMac, HD wiped, OS 10.6.8 freshly installed w/Rosetta, Photoshop Elements won't start saying "could not complete because of missing or invalid personalization info." previous owner's name still there preventing initialing?

I have a used iMac, HD wiped clean, OS 10.6.8 freshly installed w/Rosetta, Photoshop Elements was installed but won't start saying "could not complete because of missing or invalid personalization info." is previous owner's name somehow still there preventing initialing?  How do I remove and install my own?  I don't understand as HD was completely wiped with no OS when I got it.

I think Adobe allows their software to be installed on 2 computers only. However, if say you buy another computer and wish to install PSE on the new computer ( effectively a 3rd computer as far as Adobe is concerned ) PSE needs to be properly uninstalled ie not simply by uninstalling using the operating system's uninstall process. It needs to be uninstalled using the Adobe uninstall process that is contained within the software.
You should then be given a prompt as to whether you will be reinstalling on the same computer or if you wish to remove altogether. If the latter, then all traces are removed and the software can be (re) installed on the new computer.
If, unknown to yourself, the software had been installed on 2 computers and although you or the previous may have wiped the hard drive clean, as far as Adobe is concerned the software is still ' registered / assigned ' to 2 computers.
If the previous owner bought a new computer and installed their PSE on it, wiped the hard drive clean without properly uninstalling/removing PSE thentherein probably lies the prblem.
As Allan Jones said, it 's probably worth your while to purchase your own copy.
    Hope this helps.

  • Satellite A200 - Button support won't start on windows start up

    Hey,
Today I decided to turn off as many useless program's as I could (to speed up my pc) so I went to Msconfig (I have vista home premium 32 bit), and turned a lot of things off. Including the "toshiba button support". The next time I restarted my extra buttons on the top of the keyboard all worked, beside one. The one that normally turns windows media player on. This time, it did nothing at all. The play/resume, stop, forward, backward and internet button all worked without problem.
However, I really liked the WMP button, so I tried to find out what the problem was. I found out it was the button support, so I decided to turn it back on.
However, this did not help :( . I turned it on in msconfig again, but it won't start with windows anymore :(. I know it's the program I need, because when I manually launch the program (it's the program: programfiles/toshiba/TBS/HSON.exe ) the button works.
I did put a V in front of the program in msconfig, but that did not work. Anyone has an idea why not?
Edit: I found a solution, although not the best. If anyone ever has the same problem:
I made a shortcut from the program that had to run (can be found in C:programfiles/toshiba/TBS and is called HSON.exe). Next I clicked on start, and said "all programs", here I selected the folder "opstarten", this is the dutch version, but my guess is it is called something like "start up" in english. In this, I pasted (copy/cut -> paste) the shortcut to the program, and now it starts again :)

    Hi!
I agree with Akuma. You should try to reinstall the Toshiba Value Added Package. This controls the media buttons, FN buttons and all special functions on the notebook.

  • Macbook Pro won't start after Yosemite

(Posted this originally in the MacBook area, not seeing that it was the MacBook Pro area I should post. So reposting here. Sorry for confusion)
Hello all, and thank you for reading about my problem.
I have an old early 2008 MacBook. Ran fine, no problems, thing is a tank. I use it for my PhD dissertation. Last week I installed Yosemite on it, and it starts fine the first boot up, I get some work done and go to sleep. Typical night (other than putting the new OS on). The next morning, it won't start. At all.
When the power button is pressed it lights up for a second, the optical drive makes a bzzzt (typical start up noise) the fans start for a second and I heard the hard disk and then it IMMEDIATELY shuts down. Nothing from the screen at all. If I hold down the button, it lasts about 4 seconds before the front light blinks and then the computer goes dead again.
I've tried various combinations with the battery or AC power, used the hotkeys for the (PRAM reset, assuming it is on long enough to register), and waited several days for the battery to go down a bit. Nothing, it just refuses to start and I have no idea why. Nothing has happened to it, no drops, no water, no nothing at all between the time it was working fine, and the next day where it just does not work. Charge light and battery are both green and no problem there. Took out and reinserted the memory just in case as well.
Reset SMC/Tried SMC Bypass. No change.
    Nothing, no effect at all.
I'm seriously worried. I've read a bit about the Nvida problem, but not sure if that is in play here. One time in the past it wouldn't start, but it seemed to just be some weird fluke or the battery, and after messing with it a bit, it started up again. A charge issue when it hit 0 charge.
The Apple store here in Japan is a nightmare to make an appointment for recently (probably all the bugs due to iOS and other problems, ugh). So I'm really hoping I'm just missing some possible fix. I can't imagine (and cannot even remotely afford) a fix or let alone a new computer as well. I almost wonder if Yosemite could have some sort of impact, even though it is software.
Please, any ideas? I'm desperate here...

Okay, I just got back from the Apple Store. I can't say I'm satisfied, but it went farther than I expected (although I admit I had rather low hopes).
They tested the computer and decided that yes, the logic board is damaged in some way. They admitted that there were numerous problems with my model. They both agreed that upgrading to Yosemite was the likely cause of pushing the computer over the limit and breaking the board (likely putting extra pressure on the computer).
The result? They offered a 5% discount if I were to buy a new mac at the Apple Store, and gave a new charger for a computer that doesn't work. Apparently, there are no more replacement boards from the US, and that is the maximum discount they can offer. I believe them, and the staff WAS extremely kind and considerate and sympathetic.
However, seriously, Apple you release an OS that kills a computer due to stress, and then offer 5% off on a new computer and that is acceptable? I don't think so... I'm a PhD student and struggling to get by, and I can't afford to just replace computers like paper plates when a new OS is released that isn't tested enough to NOT break older models that it is marked acceptable for.
Certainly unsatisfied right now, and I have a computer that I used for my dissertation that doesn't work. Will be contacting Apple customer service to try to argue that they need to take responsibility for this. I wasn't the only one at the Apple Store, and the guy next to me had immediately had his computer collapse right after Yosemite was installed.

  • MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz won't start up

    Hello fellow forum users,
Usually, I can find solutions to most of my problems, but today, I have a bummer. My MacBook Pro won't start up. Here are the specs:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/stats/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .2-15-santa-rosa-specs.html
It started when I closed the computer to put it to sleep. Before that, for about 6 months, the computer had been acting very slow, and the pinwheel/beach ball/spinning wheel would keep appearing constantly. The hard drive was replaced once, but that didn't help. When the problem started, I had just finished downloading 2 files in safari – they weren't huge, just a few megabytes. I opened the laptop, but the screen was black, no backlight, with the fan/hard drive running in a way that sounded normal. Since then, I have forced a shutdown, and it wouldn't start up. I reset the PRAM and NVRAM successfully, with no result. I reset the SMC (not sure if there's a way to see if that worked), with no result, and the computer wouldn't open in safe boot or target hard drive mode. I'm beginning to think it's the logic board, and I would like to know if Apple is still replacing them for free, as they say here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
Finally, this is an interesting thing I came upon. Apparently, I can file a claim with NVIDIA? Hmm. Here's the website: http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/index.html
They say the following: "Please be aware that the Claims Period will not begin until after the Final Hearing, which is scheduled for December 20, 2010. If you wish to file a claim, please return to this website after the Claim Period begins (after the Final Hearing on December 20, 2010)."
Should I wait until December 21st, which happens to be my birthday, or should I ask Apple to repair it now?
Thanks for all your help in advance,
    Ahanu

That's a good question, and I don't really know the answer to it. You say you get a flashing sleep light 3 times? Makes me wonder if you need to reseat the RAM?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547
It mentions that on some computers, you will just get the flashing lights and the tones won't be played again. For sure your Mac won't boot up if it doesn't see the RAM, and if your volume happens to be on "Mute", I would assume you wouldn't hear the tones anyway let alone the start up chime.
It sounds like power is getting to the logic board if you can see the sleep light. Do you hear the hard drive spin up? If your machine seems to be on except for the display, then it may have booted up as much as it can, even if you don't see anything on the display, as could be the case if you have the NVIDIA problem. If you get to where the machine seems to be on, it's probably time to try to get the NVIDIA test done.
The slowness you were experiencing could have been due to RAM becoming unseated and not recognized or possibly going bad. Reseat it, and if you replaced Apple RAM with other RAM, then try the original RAM if reseating doesn't work.
Here's a link on getting a Mac to start up--you've probably already tried all this, but it might work as a checklist:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1365
Here's another link for troubleshooting no video issues:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573?viewlocale=en_US
Your description seems like more of a no video issue, but check out both articles to see if there is any possibility you overlooked anything.
    Good luck!

  • Reader won't start, reinstall doesn't help

    Hi,
Having trouble with a couple of computers where Adobe Reader won't start up. This is only hapenning on two of our workstations. All are Windows 7 64 bit fully patched. Anti-virus is ESET. Reader is latest 11.0.6.
Upon log in you are presented with an error dialogue titled "reader_sl.exe - application error" with the text "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application."
When you try to start Reader, you get the "Adobe Reader Protected Mode" dialogue. Attempting to open without protected mode results in a "Fatal Error" dialogue stating "Acrobat failed to load its Core DLL".
What I've tried so far includes removing then reinstalling Reader,  using the Reader cleanup app and then reinstalling, running a full virus scan, disabling AV, using the TDSSKiller app from Kaspersky.
Anyone have any clues on how to get Reader working or what I should be debugging next?
    Thanks.
    Ronny

Same problem here, have done the following to try and resolve.
Ran 3 different Rootkit Detectors including Kapersky.
    Ran Sophos Scan
    Ran sfc /scannow
have reinstalled twice, including a full uninstall and also using the Adobe Clean tool.
Getting very upset and frustrated with this issue, its not malware related in this instance and Adobe need to get their act together.
Have worked in IT support for years now and I have seen more issues with Reader in the last month than ever.
Its become a horrible buggy piece of software.
EDIT: Not to mention the error code is ridiculous, what DLL are we even talking about here?
    So frustrated... FML

Have you tried to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor? Remove both and wait one hour then connect the battery and AC/DC adaptor again.
