Elite Book 8460p - touch pad will not disable

Hi everyone,
I work on the helpdesk of a company and one of my users has been having an issue. He has an Elite Book 8460p and just recently started having issues with the touchpad on his computer. When he double clicks the upper left corner of the touchpad nothing happens. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the Synaptics Touchpad twice, with drivers directly from the HP site. I have also switch the user's hard drive to another 8460p but the same issue happens.
I have attempted to disable the touchpad in the Synaptics Device Options under the Mouse section in the Control Panel. After I hit the Disable button, it does turn the touchpad off for a time, but it seems to turn itself back on randomly. I would disable it, apply and hit OK to close the windows, test the touchpad and it would reenable itself. Has anyone else seen a problem similar to this? I was hoping there was a way to disable it in the BIOS, but I did not see anything.

  • Elite book 8460p touch pad technical specs

I would like to know what the elite book 8460p touch pad is made of - is it anodized aluminum?  if so, specifically what anodizing technique was used?  where can I get the same material.  If it is made of plastic, what specific plastic is it?  where can I get some?

Material specs would fall in the realm of trade secrets I doubt HP publishes anywhere. The obvious place to get a sample of the materials is to try to find a broken laptop you can pick up cheap.

  • Mouse touch pad will not toggle off

    HP G60 laptop, OS - Windows 7
My mouse touch pad will not turn off when the on/off button is toggled. This is a recent development. Is it possible that the button has been disabled, and if so, how can I reset it?

Hi. "This is a recent development". I'm quite unclear. Was this working previously?
Yes. Usually, I work with an external wireless mouse, so prefer to turn the touch pad off to disable it (and avoid any spurious effects caused by accidentally touching it). Since just yesterday, when I operate the on/off button, nothing happens. It's possibly a hardware problem, but I figured someone might know if it was a settings issue.

  • My Hp Pavllion dv7 keyboard and touch pad will not work

Hi. My Hp Pavllion dv7 keyboard and touch pad will not work. Been going on for a few months now. Read in the support forum that replacing the battery might help however it hasnt. Ran updates for Windows Vista and Microsoft Security Ess. Boots up just fine however unable to place in my password to get to my user profile and always have to work from guest......unless I have a USB keyboard handly at the time. I use a USB wireless mouse as well.
    Please help and thank you

The keyboard and mouse (touchpad) are separate devices which could go bad at the same time but that would be a huge coincidence. I would try reseating the ribbon cables to the motherboard for both. Here is the Service Manual:

  • Hp touch pad will not boot up

My HP Touchpad isn't working. It only turns on with holding the top right power button and the home button. Then it locks up with an HP logo in the middle.  We tried to download the Web OS doctor and it told us to plug in the USB, the "next" button on the software does not light up. We tried to hard boot it off or on but with no success with the Web OS doctor.
Some forms are telling me to take out the battery but I do not know how to do this.
Thank you for anyone that can assist.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 touch screen will not respond

    Hi,
I have the HP Officejet Pro 8600 and the touch pad will not turn on. The power is on! I actualy cannot turn it off by pressing the off button, even when I unplug it and plug it back in it is like it was never unplugged. This all started when I updated my MAC to the new operating system and then I noticed where the paper comes out there were blue blinking lights. I pressed the off button and the lights stopped, but now nothing will respond. This is a wireless printer. Please advise what to do.
    Thank you,
    Tanya (Personal information removed)

    Hello Tanyaward,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the touch pad not responding or lighting up.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Once the printer is connected to a wall outlet, please  attempt to use the power button to turn the unit off and then back on again.  This will do a semi reset on the unit.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
    Thanks for your time.

    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing an issue with Touchpad on your ThinkPad T440p.
Boot the system in safe mode and work for a while to confirm if it is working in safe mode.
Uninstall UltraNav application for Control panel – Program and feature option and restart the system and check if you’re able to see any adapter in Device Manager under Mouse adapter.

Have you tried to enable "gsynaptics touch"?
You will have a file called xorg.conf in the etc directory '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' .It should look something like this
    # Xorg configuration created by system-config-display
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "single head configuration"
    Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
    InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
    EndSection
    Section "InputDevice"
    # keyboard added by rhpxl
    Identifier "Keyboard0"
    Driver "kbd"
    Option "XkbModel" "pc105+inet"
    Option "XkbLayout" "us"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Videocard0"
    Driver "radeon"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "Videocard0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Viewport 0 0
    Depth 24
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
Add this section below the keyboard but above the video card:
    Section "InputDevice"
    Driver      "synaptics"
    Identifier  "TouchPad"
    Option      "SendCoreEvents"
    Option      "Protocol" "auto-dev"
    Option      "SHMConfig" "on"
    Option      "Emulate3Buttons"
    Option      "VertTwoFingerScroll" "false"
    Option      "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "false"
    Option "HorizScrollDelta" "0"
    Option "TapButton1" "0"
    Option "TapButton2" "0"
    Option "TapButton3" "0"
    EndSection
and then add this to the server layout section just below the line for the keyboard:
    InputDevice    "TouchPad" "CorePointer"
    Cheers and regards,

  • Elite Book 8460p fell. Lid bent. Frame around bezel won't stay snapped snugly

Had another HP with increasingly more screen flicker to point i couldn't always see what was on screen. Picked up replacement, NEW HP Elite Book 8460p on 9/25/12. Two days later, tripped over power cord. Laptop fell 35" onto hardwood floor while open/on. Left bottom corner (when laptop closed) dented. Frame around display bezel no longer snugly fits.
Concern:  When looking down thru open lid edge, can see light from display because frame snaps in, but won't stay Snug. Think dust/moisture can seep thru, causing damage. I'd post a picture ... but ... using ipad and this forum says you must have flash, which I don't.
What I've done: GENTLY un-bent frame as much as possible with pliers.  Taped frame to cover to keep snug. Looks tacky for a business laptop and certainly isn't a FIX.  New to forum today, but did search and found replacing entire lid is very expensive. So, googled every word I could think of to find laptop cover, similar to hardshell or silicone faceplate for smartphone.  Best I could find was this site but the only HP laptops they service are Pavilions. Http://www.ipearl-inc.com/
    Help appreciated:
Find faceplate like those for cell phones that would cover entire top of laptop but leave rest uncovered.
Could tape work? Or, could further damage result from loose frame?
    Other suggestions?
yes, I could go back to IT, tell them I'm a clumsy idiot, and let them solve this but ........ :-)
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)

Hey there. Dont be to down on yourself. I dropped my new Beats Edition Envy a while back and had the same thing happen. Would you mind posting the pictures? I would like to see how bad the damage is. Also have you checked on eBay or Amazon for replacement parts? I found both parts for my Envy new on those two sites for relatively inexpensive.
You are correct that the gap could cause damage if something slipped down in there or collected moisture. Its not a huge problem, since their are vents that could do the same thing. Its just something to keep an eye on. Tape may work for a short period of time but I would try to get it fixed when possible.
    Hope this helps!
    Sean

  • I have an iPod touch that will not turn on.

Hello forums! I have an iPod touch that will not turn on. I have tried everything I can to turn it back on, but I just cant find the right thing. I dont know if it is in need of a new digitizer, or the battery is dead, but I would really appreciate some help. It is an iPod touch 3rd generation.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My ipod touch 4g will not connect to my computer. Its not even in the device manager

My ipod touch 4g will not connect to my computer. Not to charge or connect to itunes. My usb ports work fine with everything else. I went and bought a new wall charger that came with a synce cord and it works fine, as a wall charger with wont work with my computer. Ive done the whole rebooting, re downloading itunes, redownloading apple software, the whole 9 yards.
What exactly happens when I plug my ipod touch 4g up if it turns on like it suppose to but instead of going to the home screeen with the little lighting bult in the battery is just acts like its not even plugged in. It just goes to connect to itunes screen.
I sent it to apple and they told me that whatever was wrong with it wasnt under warrenty but didnt tell me what it was. Ugh! It doesnt have water damage, I checked the indicators. So what do I do now? I would rather not go and get it fixed and spend 100 dollars. I would rather try and figure it out myself. Help please!

From what Apple said it appears you have a hardware problem. I would either pay to get it fixed or make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and discus it with them.

  • Help!  My iPod touch 2G will not boot up!

My iPod touch 2G will not boot.
Heres the specs of the problem:
It turns on with an Apple logo with a spinning wheel under it.
I have tried editing the hosts file with the Apple server codes.
I have tried restoring 16 times. (I log what I do on it)
The iPod has never been jailbroken.
    It is an MC model.
    It is 8GB.
Its formated for Windows. (Windows 7)
    iTunes 10.4
I have tried "The Tiny Umbrella TSS Server with SHSH blobs for iOS 4.1"
    I tried "RecBoot" no luck.
My Mom will kill me if I can't fix this.  I am going on a 9 hour vacation ride with 7 year old brothers that get really cranky.  I leave August 6th, 2011.  So I need to have it fixed before then. So i really, really, really need help!

Try uninstalling iTunes and installing the 10.4 iTunes that came out a few days ago.  Click start, run and paste "%Userprofile%\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates" without quotes.  Find iPod2,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw and delete it.  Try restoring again and Tiny Umbrella is only for iPhones.  Do not use it on iPod Touch or various errors appear.  iPod Touches can downgrade at any time (idk about iOS 5).  If it doesn't work, reply.  :)

Did you go through [Unable to update or restore|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808]?
Be sure you turn off all antivirus, spyware, zone alarm, firewall etc. And connect using a different USB hub.
    Hope that helps.
