Elite Book 8540w does not recognize GPS receiver in Connection Manager
The Connection Manager in my Elite Book 8540w does (no longer) recognize the GPS receiver. What could cause this behavior?
I have the latest version of the Communication Manager as well as HP Software Framework 4.5.12.1 installed.
Mac,
Forced Power Reset does not work for everything -- it resets the Drivers as described in the document provided. Your assessment that the Reset "kind of ridiculous" is perhaps based on your current experience; your conclusion that the Reset cannot help you in this instance is entirely correct.
My apologies -- I believe that I lack the expertise necessary to help you with this issue.
Perhaps another Expert or forum member will have an answer -- there is a wealth of experience on the forum and maybe someone has a fix to share.
I hope you find a resolution or workaround.
Kind Regards,
Dragon-Fur

My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer. It has worked great for many days until today.
I’ve tried two different Apple cables.
I’ve tried different USB ports on the computer.
I have rebooted both the Mac and the iPod.
I’ve wiggled the cables and checked for dust in the connectors.
The iPod charges using this same cable connected to wall wart. That’s a good sign.
Both the Mac and iPod seem to work fine separate from each other. They just won’t talk anymore.
Mac mini
1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo
OS 10.4.11
iTunes 9.2.1
iPod Touch 32GB, version 3.1.3 (7E18), model PB533LLI found this possible solution on another support thread, so I tried it.
turn off iPod
hold Sleep and Home buttons to start it.
When Apple appears, let go of Sleep button, but keep holding Home button.
When screen goes blank, let go of Home button.
Connect cable and check iTunes to see if it has conencted.
This did not work for me.
I then turned off the iPod, restarted the Mac, and restarted the iPod normally.
I connected them with the cable, and it works like normal. :-) -

My relatively new ipod touch 16 gb either does not show up as a drive or everytime says it does not recognize my ipod when connected to add music. I didn't have problems loading music originally, but this is a new occurrence. Could you help?
Hey, Thanks a lot. It took quite a bit of time to resurrect this ipod. I tried the upgrade again, but still would not recognize my ipod. So I went to the next step and reset my ipod, wiping of all of the information like it was new. This helped my laptop see the ipod on itunes, but did not sync. So, I deleted the itunes off my computer completely, restarted and then reinstalled the newest itunes, and then restarted. Finally, it recognized my ipod and started to download each song. It took awhile as there was 602 songs, but finally it works. Yea!!! I never had any problem with my old nano, but this touch has been another animal for sure. Thank you again and also the community for information. This was a helpful forum and will recommend to others if they get stuck with their ipod or iphone. Take care, Karen

HP Pavilion Elite e9120y bios does not recognize any cd/dvd/bluray or hard disk drives
I erased my hard disk to install Windows 7. Now my computer intermittently does not recognize that there are any drives attached to the sata ports. I go into BIOS pressing F10 and it does not list any drives at all. I have a DVD burner and a bluray and a western digital 1TB hard drive connected. Sometimes they show that they are connected other times it doesn't. It's strange.
When it does recognize there are drives connected, I boot up from the Windows 7 DVD. Then I try to create a partition on the hard drive. The installation recognizes a 930GB hard drive with no partitions. Every time I try to create a partition, it says I need a driver for the hard drive. I have a driver that I downloaded off of HP's website yesterday, the driver for nvidia sata. I put it on my usb drive. It recognizes it but says it is the wrong driver. I don't know what else to do. I have built dozens of computer and repaired hundreds, but I have never run across a problem like this and I hope you can help me.Thanks for your help, but that's exactly the driver I used. It didn't work.
My problem is not just with the hard drive. All three drives (two optical, one hard disk) should show up in bios, whether or not there is a disk in the optical drive or a partition on the hard drive. It intermittently stops detecting the drives. One time I boot and go into BIOS they are there, and I can run installation of Windows (partially). But if a turn off the computer and turn it back on, they've disappeared. Sometimes they will be detected, sometimes they won't.
I'm thinking the driver problem with the Windows 7 Professional x64 installation is somehow connected to the drives randomly not showing up. All drives stop showing up at the same time, not just the hard drive. So it's not a driver issue. It has to be connected to the BIOS and motherboard.
This computer is only 4 months out of warranty.
Any more help would be appreciated. -
My Mac Book Pro does not recognize the presence of a DVD or CD
Ever since I upgraded my MacBook Pro, it does not recognize a DVD or CD of any type when I put it in. I have a store bought DVD, the Social Network, which worked fine before upgrading to OSX operating system. Music CD's were okay then, too. Now, neither is even recognized by the player. Thought maybe it needed to be reloaded, but na't figure out how to do that. This is very frustrating, and makes me start to second guess my decision to switch to an Apple product. I've only hd this computer about 18 months, did the upgrade last September (?) and have had difficulties ever since. HELP me please!!!
Use Apple Hardware Test
Open the Help Viewer’s Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear) and choose Print to print these instructions.
Disconnect all external devices except the keyboard, mouse, display, and speakers. If you have an Ethernet cable or external DVD drive, disconnect them.
Restart your computer, holding down the D key while the computer restarts. After your computer restarts, you should see the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen. If you don’t, Apple Hardware Test may not be available on your computer. You may be able to start Apple Hardware Test from the Internet. Reconnect your computer to the network, and then restart your computer while holding down both the Option and D keys. -
I Have downloaded M Lion on a 2007 (?) 17" MacBook Pro and now the computer does not recognize my password on trying to restart. Is there anyway to undo the download so I can get my computer back!!????
Hello WadeH3,
You may be able to reset your password using your Apple ID. The following article outlines how to do so:

My new computer with Windows 8.1 does not recognize my iPhone when connected via USB.
My new Dell Computer with Windows 8.1 does not recognize my iPhone 5 when connected via USB. I have reinstalled iTunes to no avail.
Hey, I may have to if I can't get this one to work!!
I have tried a different USB to no avail. Both cables work on my old Dell so I don't believe they are the issue.
I uninstalled iTunes as directed by Apple Support and reinstalled. Apparently, Apple Mobile Device Support is not loading with it because it does not show up in programs. -
ITunes on my computer does not recognize my IPod when connected to my computer
When my Ipod is connected to the computer, it does not recognize there is a device. I have been able to sync my Ipod to my Itunes in almost 4 months. Songs transfer to Ipod but the playlists do not. I have tried to figure out the problem and nothing has worked so far to correct the problem. I hope someone is able to help me.
Hello bre8613,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning recognition issues:

Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch may not appear under Devices in iTunes after you connect it to your Windows PC. Any of the following may also occur:
The device cannot be restored in iTunes.
An exclamation point, question mark, plug symbol, or "X" appears next to the device's entry in Device Manager.
During an update or restore, the device may no longer be recognized by iTunes

MacBook Pro does not recognize Ethernet cable or connect to wireless
Today when I turned on my computer, it suddenly would not recognize any kind of Internet connection. The Ethernet cable that I use every day now shows up as 'unplugged' even though it is plugged in. I have tried using a different cable, and it still shows up as unplugged. When I try to connect to the Internet wirelessly, there is always a connection timeout and I can't connect. I use a self-assigned IP address and I've never had this problem before. I've also reset my PRAM, but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions?
try suggestion by "KYLEWONT". If you are still unable to connect to internet then issue is either with n/w settings on comp or h/w. You can drag & drop systemconfig folder in MacHD/Library to desktop which contains all settings for network. Restart comp & that should fix problem related to s/w.
