[Elite e9180f] Possible to upgrade stock video card to Nvidia GTX 650-660 (or similar)?

Hi all,
I have an Elite e9180f which has the stock NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 video card. I would like to upgrade it to possibly the level of a GTX 650 - 660 (normal or Ti) card. I realize I will need to upgrade the power supply to support it but my concerns are:
- Heat in the case. Could I overcome this by perhaps adding an add-in fan to a spare card slot?
- PCIe. The system is PCIe 2.0 while the card is 3.0. Is there any issue with this?
- Physical card length?
- Other possible unforseen issues?
Appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

- Heat in the case. Could I overcome this by perhaps adding an add-in fan to a spare card slot?
Heat in the case shouldn't be an issue if you upgrade to a decent power supply with a good sized fan. The Corsair CX500 and CX600come highly recommened and are known to fit in most HP cases.
- PCIe. The system is PCIe 2.0 while the card is 3.0. Is there any issue with this?
You won't realize the full theoretical bandwidth of the PCIe 3.0 card but it should work on your computer without issue.
- Physical card length?
This is always a concern. Please measure the inside of your case, from front to back, along the PCIe x16 slot. Others have reported installing cards as long as 10.75 inches.
- Other possible unforseen issues?
Please see Dave_G's Guide for Selecting a Discrete Video Card for helpful information, questions , and concerns about this subject.

  • Video card issue - nvidia gtx 650 ti in a HP xw 4600

I am installing a nvidia gtx 650 ti into a HP xw 4600 running win 7.  At start up we are getting 6 beeps and no monitor output.
We tried the card in a different machine and it worked, so we know the card is good.  Any assitance would be appreciated!
We have upgraded the power supply to 600W thinking that was the problem, no joy.
    Any other thoughts?

    From the troubleshooting guide:
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01973592.pdf
it's a pre-video graphics error - try to reseat the graphics card.
Well, I think you have done that already.
This is an office workstation designed for quadro graphics cards ...
Maybe you need a BIOS update:

  • Tecra A9 - Is it possible to upgrade the video card?

    Hey there,
I have a Tecra A9 PTS52E and it has Intel integrated graphics. I've read that this means I might not be able to upgrade to a better graphics card.
    Is this true?
    Thanks

    Hi glintings,
    > Is this true?
Yes, its true because the graphic card is fixed on mainboard so an upgrade is not possible.

  • The video card Asus GeForce GTX 650 and GeForce GTX 750 are compatible with After Effects CC? An apology for my English.

I will buy one of the two, but I urge confirm if any of them will help me with Newest After Effects CC. Thank you very much.

This page lists the technical specifications for After Effects.
After Effects doesn't really use the GPU for much besides the obsolete ray-traced renderer (see here), so either one should be fine. Some third-party effects, such as Element 3d from VideoCopilot, make use of the GPU, but their requirements are different from AE's and if you plan to use them, you should check their requirements before you purchase.

  • CAN I UPGRADE MY VIDEO CARD ON MY LAPTOP? I'M USING HP PAVILION DV4-1125NR

I'M PLANNING TO UPGRADE MY LAPTOP SINCE MANY SOFTWARE GAMES REQUIRES HIGHER VIDEO CARD. IS IT POSSIBLE TO UPGRADE MY VIDEO CARD? I'M USING HP PAVILION DV4-1125NR.

Not possible Unfortunately...all cards nowadays are built in only
It was possible in the old days
but laptop manufacturers found it more "profitable" to make it not, this way the user will have to buy a new laptop every few years.
there are some third party solutions but they aren't effective really

  • What is the stock video card--is it upgradable?

    Hi all,
    I've a few questions!
    1. I can't find on the apple site the stock video card in the mac mini. What is it?
    2. Is it upgradable and is it PCI Express?
Now to explain my situation. I have a Dual 2.5ghz G5 and I'm looking to switch to Intel for the games and the mobility of the mini. I run Final Cut Pro and Motion 2. I don't use Motion 2 all that much though--less each day. Can a mac mini handle FCP? I'm concerned about the video card.
I'm not looking at buying the current 2.0ghz since it would be a downgrade for me. Hopefully they will upgrade the line soon?

Upgrading the hardware in a Mac Mini is not something I would reccomend. A ram upgrade involves removing the logic board and should be done by an Apple authorized technician. Upgrading something like the graphics card or logic board would be difficult and almost certainly void your warranty.
As to Final Cut Studio and Motion: The Mac Mini uses an integrated Intel graphics processor with 64 megs of ram which is shared with your main system memory. This setup is not compatible with the studio suite of apps. The only Intel macs that run FCS are: MacBook Pro (any configuration), the Mac Pro (any configuration), and the iMac (all models except the old $999 17 inch configuration). While the Mac Mini can play HD video at full resolution, the advanced editing and effects tools in FCS require at least a 128 meg graphics card (ATI or NVIDIA).
To sum that all up: a Mac Mini can't use FCS no matter what you do to it but a new (metal and glass) $1199 20 inch iMac will. It's only $400 more than the Mini and you can hook up a second monitor. I love my Mini and use it as a media server/entertainment center computer, but if you need to do editing and iMovie won't cut it for you it is probably not your best option.

  • Is it possible to change the video card of a pavilion g7-1075dx?

So, I have an HP Pavilion g7-1075dx Notebook with Windows 7. I'm an avid gamer and wish to play the newest games. However, there's one problem thats keeping me from doing so. Alot of the newer games require newer video/graphics cards. This particular laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250. The newest games seem to require ATI Radeon HD 4850 and above. This is the only thing thats keeping me from playing games like Starcraft II on the highest settings OR in the case of Star Wars: The Old Republic, it almost keeps me from playing the game, period, due to the graphics being too much for my current card to handle, causing massive lag. I was hoping I could change the video card. Upgrade. However, i've heard that with most laptops or notebooks you can't upgrade anything other than the RAM. I'm hoping anyone on here can help me out and tell me if it is possible to get a new video card for my laptop. We don't have a desktop computer so this laptop is my only hope for a long time to play newer PC games.

Alright, let me put this in a simpler message: Does anyone know if it is possible to change the video card currently in my laptop, the HP Pavilion g7-1075dx, for a newer and better one. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 to ATI Radeon HD 4850 or higher.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card on a mid 2012 MacBook Pro? And is it possible to upgrade the RAM without voiding the warranty?

Hi I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the graphics card on a MacBook Pro and the RAM without voiding the warranty? I have a gt 650m in my MacBook Pro, non retina, and to me, its not enough power for me, so i was looking around, and I found a retailer that would give me a nvidia gtx 660m for a decent price. Also, the ram needs to be at least 12gbs, to ensure that my computer would run fast.
If you can help, please tell me,
    Thankyou.

No, the video card cannot be exchanged - you have a pretty decent GPU there; not sure why you'd want to switch it out. You can upgrade the RAM to a maximum of 16GBs. Apple recommends upgrading in matching pairs, so I don't really think I'd try 4GB and 8GB stick.
Both Crucial and OWC have memory available for the new Macs. Both are reputable dealers and know Macs well and I would only buy from these sources (and I would buy Crucial, were it me).
Although your Mac didn't come with a users manual outlining the installation of the additional RAM, you can download the late 2011 model users guide as the models themselves are almost identical.
Good luck - write back with any questions.

  • Is It Possible To Upgrade The Graphics Card In A Late 2006 MacBook (original)?

I have this Late 2006 Macbook, that still runs great and everything, but the only problem iv been running into, is video. So when i watch a video in QuickTime Player, or QuickView, or even YouTube, the video just randomly starts to flip out. So, is it possible to upgrade the Graphics Card?

    Sorry, not possible.

  • Is it possible to upgrade my HD3000 card to a dedicated one?

Almost everyone argues about the lack of gaming performance on every Mac 13" with HD3000 graphics card.
Low frames even at low graphics definition. It's quite annoying to spend almost 1150€ buying a computer that won't run great (even  with minimum graphics, I don't really care) on 5+ old games.

No you can't and I'm not to pleased with Apple lumping the graphic under performing 13" with no dedicated video card in with the rest of the "MacBook Pro's" and not adequatly informing consumers of it's pitiful graphics capability.
They should know with the small form factor and lower price that more younger types could more easily afford that model, the market that plays 3D games more often.
Apple totally ignores the 3D gaming market and always has because paying attention to that market requires one to replace the video card and Apple doesn't want people to extend the life of their hardware by replacing parts. They want you to buy a new machine every 3-4 years and not every 7-10 years like a Windows tower can.
FYI the Intel HD 3000 scores only 11 points on Cinebench.
The 15" and up score 35-45 points.
The best machine to get for 3D gaming is actually a Win 7 64 bit bit gaming tower with 4GB of RAM expandable and a decent power supply, this way you can buy new video cards, optical drives, hard drives etc etc. Choose what monitor you want, it's quality and resolution etc.
    http://www.cbscores.com/index.php?sort=ogl&order=desc
With Mac's you only get about a year or so with 3D games and they are non-competitive after that because you can't upgrade the video card or can't find any for the MacPro's.
So online competivie 3D gaming belongs on Windows and is a joke on Mac's, sure you can play the bots, but that's no fun after awhile.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card in the HP ENVY 17-j053ea?

    Hi
I'm considering buying the HP ENVY 17-j053ea for use as a portable workstation for applications such as Max Design, autocad and photoshop as a second system for when I need to be away from the office but still need the ability to work.
This machine seems to have a lot of bang per buck and is more in line with my budget than a full on portable workstation.
As far as upgrade options I presume I could max out the ram at 16GB and put in an SSD as the main OS and application drive and use the main 1TB drive as the mass storage unit.
What I'm wondering is if it possible to upgrade the graphics card in this machine?
I don't imagine I would be attempting such an upgrade myself but assuming I leave it into a professional is this possible.
My worry is that with some of my heavier model files I could feel the limitations of the mid range portable gfx card onboard. I could probably live with it if it is not an option but just putting feelers out.

    Thanks for the reply Paul
    I see.
    That doesn't sound feasible so.
I can manage the other 2 upgrades within my budget but things seem to get quite expensive on the higher end platforms very quickly.
It's my first foray into the laptop/workstation arena so I'm not that familiar yet with clever upgrade strategies.
I did have the use of this model for a few days and It is a really nice overall laptop, both aesthetically and value wise.

  • I want to upgrade my video card in my HPE H8-1020 - It is a Eyefinity Radeon HD6570

I want to upgrade my video card in my  HPE H8-1020 - It is a Eyefinity Radeon HD6570.  I want to upgrade to a professional monitor for photo editing and would like to know what is available?

    Jimg-evv, welcome to the forum.
What is the make/model of the monitor that you want to buy.  I will provide the information for you, but it would help me to know more about the monitor.
You can upgrade the video card.  However, most mid-level cards require at least 400W to operate properly.  The power supply unit (PSU) in the computer is 300W.  A card that would work for your needs would require a PSU upgrade, as well.
I recommend at least 500W; 600W would be even better because it would allow for future upgrades.  I like OCZ and Corsair PSU's.
You would need a PCI Express x16 video card.  I like XFX, EVGA, Sapphire and PNY in that order.  If you upgrade the PSU, this card should work for you.
