Elitebook 8540p flickering display

I have updated the driver with the latest from website but screen flickers approximately every 10-20 sec.

Had same problem (flickering display on resume after sleep mode or display off mode ) with Elitebook 8440p, Nvidia NVS3100M (purchased in april 2011), and Elitebook 8460p (purchased in april 2012)
Have tried several "solutions", drivers, OS: Win7, WinXP, Win8, Linux

The workaround (disable sleep and auto-screen switch off) described here works:

  • Does HP sell a USB extension for the finger-print reader in an Elitebook 8540p?

I have an Elitebook 8540p. I can use the fingerprint reader to log in to Windows when the screen is open. However, when the laptop is 'docked' the screen is closed, covering the built-in finger print reader. Does HP sell a USB fingerprint extender or adapter which would allow me to use the biometric sign in when the laptop is docked?

I am sure they are the correct drivers, they worked with the system when it was an "HP" version of Windows.
The screens work for me, here they are again:

  • Is the 595759-001 DVD burner for Elitebook 8540p plug and play

I have a DVD ROM player, only, in my Elitebook 8540P, and I just ordered a DVD writer (595759-001) to replace it with. Do I just install the hardware? Is this going to be a plug and play experience, or do I need to locate drivers for the replacement? Do I need to uninstall the driver for the original DVD ROM?

Hi, The driver for any optical drive is provided by Windows, so you should just have to connect the new device, however it can sometimes avoid any issue by doing this as follows. Hold down the Windows key and press R.  Into the Run box type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.  Expand DVD/CD=ROM drives, right click the existing device and select Uninstall. When done, shutdown the notebook and fit the new optical drive. When you then boot Windows, give it a few minutes to fully load and you should find the new drive is up and running. Regards, DP-K

  • EliteBook 8540p Not Powering On

I just bought a used EliteBook 8540p that just ran out of warranty,  and now no longer powers on. When first received the notebook it seemed to be working fine, had it on for about an hour, let the battery charge up to 100% then turned it off. Next day when to power it on and nothing happened. Tried to power it on with just the battery and then just on ac power but with same behavior. All the lights above keyboard blink once then nothing after pressing power button. With battery installed and ac power plugged in, battery light on front of notebook is on and is Turquoise indicating full charge of battery. This is all it does now.
Is this a hardware failure ? What does the lights blinking once mean ?

i am a computer technition at my own shop.before 2 months i bought 8540p laptop for my friend from another shop, before a few days it was giving same problem , at the internet i did not find no soltion of this problem ,i just find your problem here, so at last i decided  try it by myself. now i have the solution and it's 100% working.
    1. unplug your battery and charger from your laptop.
2.open the 3 screws of keyboard from backside(downside) of your laptop.
3.open the keboard clips from upper side carefully and put it out.
4.now you will see the three or four strips near to your touchpad, disconnect these strips from motherboard.
5.Plug just your battery in and push the power on button.
I hope 100% ,your laptop will power on and your problem will be solved.
now power off your laptop and connect the strips to motherboad that u have disconected, and connect your keyboad strips also, assemeble everthing that u dissassembled. and enjoy your laptop.
sorry for my poor english i dont know english language well. further if u have any problem u can contact to me here, thanks.

  • Flickering Display Successes

Since the other threads are getting so long with people saying the same thing, i thought i would round them all up and start this one for people who have fixed thier flickering display to share with others how they did it. Hopefully this should be useful for people who havnt fixed theirs yet.
So please don't post unless you have fixed your display (or apple have).
Il start... I downloaded the latest battery update and it seems to have worked.

I have the same problem (but no solution I'm afraid). If I move the screen back and forward a few time I can find a position where the flickering stops. I'm guessing this is a cable or connector problem. For me, it's an irritation that doesn't warrant paying the money to get it fixed, since my PB is 3 years old and if the screen gives up the ghost completely then I'm ready to buy a new laptop.

  • IPhone 4 Flickering Display and Unresponsive Screen

My iPhone 4's screen was not responding when I tried to swipe it or anything of that sorry - texts and notifications from internal apps kept coming in as they normally would however. After backing up the phone to my laptop, I manually shut it off using the power and home buttons, which was successful. I let it sit for a minute and then turned it back on, and upon looking at the screen noticed that the display is flickering just the tiniest bit (it's definitely enough to notice, though.) Any suggestions on how to remedy this?
Saw in previous discussions the suggestions to turn off auto-brightness and the problem would be solved, however I already had the auto-brightness turned off when the flickering occurred.

    Hello Amelia,
Thank you for providing so much detail about the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone's display. I found a couple of resources I recommend.
First, for the issue you are experiencing with the touchscreen response, I recommend following the steps in this article:

  • Pink flickering display problem

Hoping someone might be able to help. The screen on my Powerbook G4 15" 1.5Ghz (OS X 10.4.11) is a dark pink (almost black) and flickers. You can still just see the desktop and icons but only very faintly. Originally, it went pink only on start-up (or when the screen woke from sleep) when it would gradually 'warm up' to white. I now can only use it in clamshell mode with a Studio Display which doesn't have the pink problem . From reading other posts, I gather that this seems to suggest that there isn't a problem with the logic board, but maybe the backlight has gone, or a cable, or the inverter needs replacing. Has anyone had the same problem, and if so was one of these that was the problem, and were you able to fix it? I've looked at various online diy repair tutorials and reckon I could handle most of them, but I'd like to be as sure as possible that I'm replacing the rigt parts before undertaking the project. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Peter: I'm sure I wrote a reply to your post the day it first appeared here, but I guess I must have hit the Back button instead of the Post button after composing it. Sorry!
The fact that an external display works fine for you indicates definitively, as you've guessed, that your logic board (including the GPU) is working properly. The problem is with your display backlight. An old, tired fluorescent backlight tube is typically pink or reddish until it warms up, and a very old one may stay pink or reddish all the time. If your backlight is flickering, it may never warm up properly, so that may explain its continued pinkness. The flickering may be caused by a failing inverter (which supplies power to the backlight) or by a damaged backlight cable (damage can be caused by chafing where the cable passes through the display hinge) or, much less likely, by a failing backlight tube. In your shoes, I would begin by replacing the inverter to see whether that eliminates the flickering. Replacing either the cable or the backlight tube is much more involved, and I don't recommend those as DIY procedures.
Sarah: You haven't told us how your display is misbehaving, so I don't know whether or not my advice to Peter is on target for you too. Exactly what are you seeing on your built-in display, and what do you see when you connect an external display?

  • Wicked bad Flickering Display in 2009 MacBook

On Memorial weekend of this year (2014) I went through airport security with my computer.  I've done this before, but when I got to my destination and turned my computer on the flickering and weird flickering stripes on the left side were there.  I did not drop it or do anything else that I can think of that would have damaged it.  Oh yeah, I have a MacBook 2009.  I don't know about any other specs and since I can't see my apple menu icon thingy I can't tell you more.  I started to check out buying a new monitor (my husband did this for his Dell) and then I began to wonder if it is the monitor or maybe something else, something internal.  I am obviously not a computer savvy person.  I need to do something quickly (finally) so I can display photos for a special occasion.  Any thoughts?
    Thank you!!

You could contact an Apple Store with Genius bar for a diagnostic test to see what
is the actual defect behind these symptoms you've noticed; they can give you an
estimate on costs to repair the device. In several regions (esp US & Canada) the
Genius bar diagnostic testing is a free service...

This is about the best advice a person can offer in this regard, since there appears
to be a hardware defect and there are more than a few parts that could cause it.
Hopefully this helps resolve the mystery, at any rate...

  • Pismo with flickering display

My Pismo is loosing its display! The problem is that it flickers sometimes. The video image appears bright but the image is displaced from side to side or totally unintelligible. The following can cause the display to flicker:
    * closing and opening the display is 100% likely now to cause flickering from just a little to whole screen illegable.
    * clicking on keys can cause slight flicker, as can the track pad.
But, my wife discovered that if you move the display forward or backward until it is good, then you can move it to the desired position and use it that way for several days so long as you don't move it again.
This Pismo is my favorite computer to date, so I hope I can keep this from killing it.

    Paul,
I am not sure what to advise at this point. You may have a damaged ribbon cable where it enters the connector at the logic board. If the antenna cable is too short, somebody may have already been into the display and contributed to the problem. Possibly the data cable was also a little short and stress has damaged it. If any part of the ribbon cable is damaged, it would require replacement; this would entail removing the display and partial disassembly of the display to access the cables on the back.
If the data cable and/or connector for the data cable on the logic board are at fault, you are looking at some dollars for repairs. This link below gives an idea of what used parts cost:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Products/G3-Pismo/Displays/10/6
If for some reason the male connector on the logic board is faulty, you would probably need a replacement board:
    http://www.ifixit.com/PowerBook-Parts/G3-Pismo-Logic-Board/IF106-020
If a certified tech made the repairs, it may not be worth the money.
I cannot explain the scrolling issue. You could connect to the external again and see if in fact there may be something wrong with the VRAM and/or graphics chip that did not show up the first time.
You are at the point some Pismo owners reach...you really like the powerbook and are now facing a decision...to repair or move to a new(er) platform. At some point, one moves on...possibly you are there now.
I hope I have been helpful and thank you for your gratitude.

  • Weird flickering display?

i am looking at my alum macbook and have everything minimized everything and noticed that the monitor is flickering quickly and looks as if you see a ripple in watter but its going very fast. like it is refreshing but i can see it refreshing. i have apple care. should i send it in to have it looked at? thanks in advance!

I have already checked those and neither are activated.
Also, if there is an animated gif, or something that moves, the entire display is filled with a horizontal line that's the same colour and height as the gif. If I refresh the screen or activate expose, it vanishes, but then comes back pretty soon after,
It's funny because I've had it on most of today (after being shut down all night) and it's been fine. It's just started again this evening. Makes me think something could be overheating perhaps.
Thanks for trying to help anyway.

  • Elitebook Folio 9480m display cable for display upgrade

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade my screen panel from HD to HD+ resolution. According to HP technical support this schould be possible by just replacing the panel. So I ordered a replacement in the higher resolution and it does not work. Backlight is on, but no picture shown. The replacement is a N140FGE-LA2. it replaces an N140BGE-LA3. Both are from Chimei Innolux.
Of course the higher resolution HD+ panel requires a 2 channel 6 bit LVDS, while the HD panel is 1 channel. So I need a cable that has all pins 40 pins connected. I also checked the display cable I have already in my machine and it seems that it is not fully connected.
With the previous model the 9470m there were two separate cables in the antenna kit for the different resulutions (part number 702876-001). The antenna kit for the 9480m does not mention this. Also HP technical support told me that the cable I have should work, but I have my doubts now.
Does anybody know where to get a suitable cable. This cable actually combines the display signals and the webcam connection. The following information would help me.
    - What part number of HP would contain the spare part cable for the HD+ panel in the 9480m?
    - Can I use the HD+ cable of the antenna kit from the 9470m also in the 9480m? They look very similar.
    - Is there any aftermarket possibility to get to the right cable? Any part number for that would be great.
    Also Interesting:
    - What is the actually manufacturer and model of the panel used in the 9480m HD+ model? If somebody who has that a HD+ 9480m could have a look inside, this would be great information to double-check if the replacement panel type is actually ok.
    best regards, Jörg

    Hi again,
I did some investigations regarding the display cables used.
6017B0391001 is the HD cable (1 Channel, 6bit LVDS) used in the Elitebook 9470m
6017B0427401 is the HD+ cable (2 Channel, 6bit LVDS) used in the Elitebook 9470m
6017B0507401 is the diaplay cable for the Elitebook 9480m (this is the cable used in my machine)
The cable used in the 9480m looks like that not all pins are connected. Is it a 1 Channel cable? Would that mean that also the HD+ display used is a 1 Channel display? This would be strange in my opinion.
I guess I try the HD+ cable from the 9470m with the panel I odered and see if it works.
It would be really great if somebody owning an Elitebook 9480m with HD+ (1600x900) display could check what exact manufacturer and model HP uses.
Any thoughts on this would be really helpful.
    best regards, Jörg

  • IPod Touch Flickering Display

My iPod Touch display flickers when temperature is below 60°F. Suggestions?

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Corrupted/Flickering display

Over the last few weeks I've noticed that part of the window that displays the movie/clips is corrupted along the top and right edges. Display of the finished movie isn't affected, but it makes editing and composing very eye straining because the corrupted part of the display is constantly flickering.
Anyone else got this problem and found a solution?? I haven't tried re-installing imovie because I don't know how.

    >An external monitor functions fine...
Thats good. The main thing there is no problem with GPU.
    > I'll start with checking the cable connection to mobo, followed by a replacement inverter board.
I dont know if FL inverter can be reason for this. I dont think so.
Anyway, send some feedback. It will be interesting to know if you will be able to fix this.
