  • Elitebook 8570w - Windows 7 - How to turn off light when touchpad disabled

I much prefer to use the styk rather than the touch pad, and I lay my hands on the computer in such a way that I can accidentally trigger the touch pad when it is on.  So with laptops I usually just go to the device manager and disable the touch pad entirely.
However, on my Elitebook 8570w, when I disable the touch pad, this extremely bright orange light comes on.  It's extremely annoying, especially in low light situations, where I often have to work with my laptop.
How can I disable this light while the touchpad is disabled?

  • Elitebook 8570w hot to the touch, can't find fan sensor data

Hi, I am having issues with a HP Elitebook 8570w and its functioning. When using a lot of the cpu the heat builds up to the point that it can get slightly painful to the touch on the left side. This includes the left most keys of the keyboard. The fan itself is nearly silent and there is barely any airflow through the exhaust. But can be heard to be moving. The laptop itself is inclinded and the fan doesn't look blocked when inspected through the service latch. The only physical block I can imagine is with the side exhaust but I can't examine that without taking apart the entire thing. So I am trying to diagnose the situation. However I have not been able to find any way of monitoring the fan speeds and utilisation. (SpeedFan and its ilk appear to be unable to find a fan) Do I need to go into the bios for this? As I'd rather not send it in just for a software issue.  But with temperatures around 90-120 degrees celcius I'd really like to do something about this.

MY suggestion would be to send the unit for service if it is under warranty and get it fixed. If the unit is not under warranty then please check the vents and clean it since i belive it should be blocked . I am a HP Employee. • Disable Touchpad BUTTONS on an EliteBook 8570w

    Dear HP:
I have an HP EliteBook 8570w, which I must say is the most awesome mobile workstation EVER. If only I could solve one problem...
The touchpad BUTTONS - specifically the ones above the touchpad -  how can I disable them? I have large hands and find myself accidentaly hitting the buttons, resulting in losing entire paragraphs of text or launching programs I didn't intend to launch. HELP!

  • EliteBook 8570w System Repair Disc Windows 7

    Hi all,
I wanted to make a System Repair Disc of Windows on my Elitebook 8570w. This was fairly easy as Hp has a programme called Hp Recovery Disc Creator which does this for you. It gives you one opportunity to burn a Windows Disc and a Driver Disc. What HP calls the Windows Disc is the System Repair Disc.
Now, my problem is that the Windows Disc does not function properly (no idea why). When booting from the DVD the screen keeps stuck at Windows is loading files... Also when I try to run the setup file from the DVD I get error messages that say "F:\Sources\autorun.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error." and after that "The file 'autorun.dll' could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup cannot continue. Error code is [0xC1]" Because I only got one shot at making the disc I can't simply make another DVD.
Then, I tried to let Windows make the System Repair Disc by itself (using Create a System Repair Disc). However, I get another error message: "The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057). Some people suggest that HP Recovery Disc Creator has "hijacked" Window's "Create a System Repair Disc" function and that's what is causing the problem. So HP does not give me a second try and it prevents Windows from giving me a second try as well! So, maybe deleting HP Recovery Disc Creator would work. However, it does not list in Programmes and Features and I can't find an uninstall file in its directory.
When trying to find a solution I came across a guide to create a bootable Windows 7 Installation USB drive (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2432-usb-windows-7-installation-key-drive-create.html). It involves copying the files from the installation disc to the USB. Step 21 details the files that are on this installation disc. They are the same as on my System Repair Disc.
So would downloading an image of the installation disc be the same as downloading an image of the System Repair Disc? (I'm downloading a file atm but not sure if it makes sence) If not, are there any other options to create a new System Repair Disc? Maybe by somehow uninstalling HP Recovery Disc Creator or by tricking it into thinking I have not yet tried to make a Windows Disc? Or can I download an image of the System Repair disc somewhere online (most links I have found are dead)?
Please let me know if any additional information is needed! Thanks in advance!
    Michael
TLDR: burned a system repair disc, disc is not working properly, HP and Windows won't let me try to burn again. Other options?

    Hi:
You can probably make an ISO file of the version of W7 Pro that you need from the link below.
Use one of the SP1 Media Refresh files.
    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/14709-Windows-7-Digital-River-direct-links-Multiple-Languag...
Use the W7 Pro product key from the bottom of the notebook to activate the installation.
Use this tool to transfer the ISO file to a USB flash drive or DVD.  The tool will also make the file bootable.

Your other option would be to order a set of W7 recovery disks for your PC, by contacting HP for the country you live in at the link below.

  • [EliteBook 8570w] General System Board Failure

While trying out a new Linux distro (probably unrelated), I've found my EliteBook 8570w unbootable. When I turn on the computer both the num lock and caps lock lights blink 5 times (General system board failure) while seeing the HP boot logo.
I tried restoring a working BIOS, however I've formatted all drives before which means there's not HP_TOOLS or HP_RECOVERY partitions. I tried restoring the BIOS through a flash drive but with no results: the light of the USB drive flashes for about a half second, the caps lock light starts flashing, the fan goes full throttle and then nothing happens; the computer can only be turned off by unplugging AC.
After trying several configurations of the flash drive (UEFI restore, BIOS update, custom stuff...) with the same result, I'm not sure what to do next.
Is there any other viable options to try (e.g. would flashing BIOS work with a HP_TOOLS partition on the HDD)? Is my motherboard just plain dead?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Elitebook 8570w wont start when docked

Hi, My fully updated 8570w is having great trouble starting when docked. When I press the power button on the dock, the laptop will start for a few seconds, then turn off.It will just go past the BIOS, then dies completely.Repeating this process 5-10 times will eventually boot the laptop to windows login screen. Same goes if i open lid, and press power button directly on the laptop. If I however remove the laptop from the dock, and power it on, it will boot just fine.Reinserting in the dock will not affect this, and I'm good to go. Fully updated W8.1 x64, no drivers missing from device manager. No errors in the event log. Any ides to try? TIA, Gulkings

    Hi:
If you live in the USA/Canada, contact HP at this number  1-800-334-5144, to order a set of recovery DVD's for your notebook.
Inform the customer services rep that you need to order a set of quick restore disks for your notebook.
You will need to provide the model number and serial number.
The cost for a set of recovery disks is $10

  • Boot docking wireless elitebook 8570w

When I boot my 8570w in the docking station the wireless is disabled and cant be enabled via windows (which I can remotely understand),
when I then remove it from the dock(hot) it stays disabled and to enable it, the only way I have found is to reboot it,
(took me hours of installing and uninstalling drivers to even find this option)
This seems not to be the way it should be !?

Which gave me the result in the spoiler. I'm especially keen on the HP ProtectTools because I love the fingerprint login featurer. I'm also not so sure what missing the USB 3.0 eXtensible Host and Dual-Core Optimizer will mean for me.
Does anybody know if these things will work on Windows 8 Pro (regardless what the Update Assistant says), or if not, if it will be solved in the future, or if not, what problems it will give me.
    Thanks!

    I have the HP-Pavilion VA284AAR-ABA IQ546T Touchscreen All-in-one
It originally shipped with Vista, but during the period you could upgrade to Windows 7, which I did as soon as I got it. I love it (only wish it had HDMA out, but that is another issue).
Just upgraded to Windows 8 Pro using their donload Upgrade system. It ran great. Worked like my android tablet with regards to touchscreen capability. Could swipe to get the sidebar with search charms on the right and swipe from the left to get other open windows, It was truley wonderful. Then while looking at some settings functions there was a suggestion that my computer preformance was lagging and I should refresh my system.
First of all when I think of the word refresh, I think about splashing a little seabreaze on my face,,,that is refreshing. What happened to my computer after hitting refresh was more like Brad Pitt getting a facelift to look like me. Not Happy.
Now none ot the touchscreen features work other than moving and hitting tiles. Gone is the ability to swipe to mover the entire screen to the right or left or up and down. No more opening the charms bar with a right side swipe. It is like the touchscreen only works halfway. I know this is an old machine in Tech terms, but I know it will work, because it did. Please offer drivers under windows 8 to restore full functionality of the touchscreen to this product. I know your web sight says that there are limitations to the touch features because of the bezel, but I know it works, I 've seen it work and it was a thing of beauty. ( I tried restore, but ther is no restore point prior to refresh) Please warn others about the evils of the refresh option ant to try to establish a restore point before that. Lonng time HP buyer and supporter, please help.

  • Hard drive is noisy

hello, i have an hp elitebook 8570w, running on windows 7 64 bit. it is fairly new (around 4 months old). it has been extremely noisy in the past few days (4 or so), and i am pretty sure the noise is coming from the hard drive. the noise begins as soon as i boot up my computer so it doesnt have to do with it heating up. before that the computer would heat up often because i sometimes put it on my bed, which i know is not the best place to put it. after the noise started i bought a cooling board so now the computer never gets hot at all. the noise is coming from the left side under the laptop. and it is a constant huming or grinding like sound (pretty supid description, but i dont know how to explain it), it is fairly loud and it´s been driving me crazy. also no clicking or anything. i believe it comes from the hard drive, but i am not an expert so i cant be sure. my hard drive model is "hitachi hts727550a9e364". i tried to defrag it, but it was 0% fragmented, since the computer is fairly new. i also have an antivirus, and i did a full scan and the computer was not infected. it hasn't caused any apparent performance issues. please help me, this sound is driving me crazy, i cant concentrate and do my work because of it.

The type of sound you describe sounds way more like the cooling fan than the hard drive. Hard drive noise is not constant...it is usually clicky like a playing card in the spokes of a bicycle ridden fairly slowly and stopping and starting as the hard drive is accessed. There is a built in hard drive checker in the BIOS...hit F10 as you boot up and loo for the hard drive test in the menus. Run the full length one and see if you get errors.

  • The right DVD drive

    Hello!
Recently I received a HP Elitebook 8570w with my subscription at university. The notebook however did not include a DVD drive (although I want one). How do I know which DVD drive is suitable for this notebook?
    Many thanks!

  • HP8570W with HP230W enhanced docking station does not recognize DMI connections

    Hi,
I have an HP 8570W workstation with the HP230W enhanced docking station. I have three monitors plugged in - one VGA, and two DMI. Everything has been working for about a year. Suddenly today the desktop started jumping around and then the DMI monitors went dark. I checked in resolution and they do not show up anymore. I rebooted. I took laptop off docking station and retarted and plugged back in. I unplugged and replugged the DMI cable. Nothing helped.
Any idea what to try next?
