Elitebook 9470m - Reinstall windows help

Hi all,
We have dozens of HP elitebooks, and recently started using 9470m's for some of our staff wanting thin/light machines.
One machine has gotten corrupted and won't boot into Windows anymore. Bluescreens and nothing including system restore has got it going again.
So, I'm working on reinstalling Windows 7 Pro x64. I've got a vanilla Windows 7 x64 w/Sp1 DVD (not using restore CD's we prefer clean images), but am having a horrible time getting this going.
First off, I am no stranger to this. I install Windows server and desktop OS's many dozens of times a year,  build custom CD's that integrate drivers and the like into the image.
The issue (I believe) is because the 9470m only had USB 3.0 ports, no USB 2.0 ports, and doens't have a built in DVD drive. Since win7 doesn't natively support USB 3.0, it can't read the USB 2.0 or 3.0 stick or external USB 2.0 DVD drive during setup.
Once I boot into setup, and choose start, it says it needs drivers. I can browse and see the internal HDD, but not the DVD it booted from or the USB stick.
I've been trying to integrate the  intel USB 3.0 drivers into the CD, but so far no luck.
Any thoughts? I suppose I can setup a PXE boot server if all else fails.

Hello GreenEnvy,
The EliteBook is a Business model notebook.  Your issue would be best answered on the HP Enterprise Business Community Forum
Good luck!

  • Need help reinstalling Windows 7 home premium on HP G62-435DX

My internal hard disk crashed and I followed advice from this forum to use Ubuntu (using live disc from CD ROM drive) to recover data and save to external hard drive. Next, I replaced the internal hard drive with a 500GB internal hard drive. I figured out how to partition the new internal hard drive and get Ubuntu to acknowledge it.
Now, I'm trying to figure out how to reinstall my Windows 7 Home Premium operating system so I can try to get back to normal. However, I cannot figure out how to download Windows 7 to my hard drive using my product key that came with my machine when I bought it. All the download options appear to require you to buy/request Windows 7 recovery discs to run and install on the machine (since I didn't create these prior to my hard disk failing).
Is this really the only way I can use my product key to reinstall Windows 7 to my machine? Also, I cannot figure out how to download the OS from Windows 7 ISO downloads (via Digital River) to my internal hard drive - seems I can only do this by downloading and burning to CDs (which I don't believe I have the right kind - but obviously am happy to buy if it's the best/fastest option). It seems I have very limited options since I had to remove my internal hard drive, which then eliminated Windows 7 from my machine.
Based on these details - I ultimately want to determine the fastest, most efficient way to get Windows 7 OS back on my machine. I'd prefer to download it, but am hamstrung by having to run Ubuntu from a Live CD. Thanks for your help!

Here are the specs for your HP G62-435DX Notebook Computer. Here is the HP Software and Driver Downloads page if you wish to order the HP Recovery Discs and have them mailed to you. If you wish to download Windows 7 and use the Windows product key on the bottom of your computer, please see How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc for instructions on downloading, creating the installation media (DVD or USB), and installing Windows. You will need a funtional computer with DVD burning software capable of burning the ISO to disc.

  • My HD on my pc just recently went down.  I had to buy a new HD and reinstall windows on the new HD.  I am running a 64 bit system, and have installed itunes (x64). itunes wont recognize my phone. I have done all troubleshooting tutorials.  HELP!

I just had to replace the HD on my system.  I am running a x64 system and have installed the correct version of iTunes.  ITunes will not recognize my phone since the new install.  I have went online and followed all of the troubleshooting guides on Apple support.  No good.  I have uninstalled and installed iTunes several times.  I have even tried reinstalling windows.  I also get an error message when I start up Itunes that reads " The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning cd's and dvd's are missing.  This can happen as a result of installing other cd burring software.  Please reinstall ITunes.  I am so frustrated, I know there has to be a solution.  I tunes works in all other senses, just not recognizing my Phone.  I need help, my wife and I both have iPhones and need to sync..........
    Please Help

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Help w/ Reinstalling Windows XP from Recovery Disk No. DVD Kit 361935-001

Re: HP Operating System DVD - Windows XP Pro. SP2 - HP or Compaq PC. No. DVD Kit 361935-001
Can I reinstall Windows XP on an HP computer using the COA received with the computer?
I read the following online and not sure what it means:
"It may not work with an OEM product key code. You would need to either sip stream SP3 or find a XP OEM version that does not come with service pack 2 installed... For some reason the OEM codes don't work with SP2 OEM disks. MSCE, MCP, A+, Network+, Security+, CEH, CCNA Just thought this might be a tid bit of information that might help those of you that need to restore windows and are using the most common OEM product key code located on the COA (Certificate of Authentication) on your computer...The only exception is if it specifically says service pack 2 on your COA."
    Thank for your help!

    Hi:
    Me either.
Your product key should work, but you shouldn't even need it when you use a recovery disk made for your PC.

I'm not aware of any, not to say that there aren't any issues.
it may have nothing to do with ntpd, there are a lot of things running.
ntpd just happen to make the log entry at the same time as the panic.
I would check to see if there are any updates available for you system.
if this is the first time that this has happened. it may be (pick one):
    cosmic rays
    sun spots
    the trilateral commission
if this happens more frequently and that traces look the same, then
there may be a real problem that needs to be looked into further.

  • Help! Had to reinstall Windows!

I had to reinstall windows without gaining access to any of my files including iTunes. So now when I plug my iPod in, it asks me to sync it, but I always say no because the library is completely blank (I had to reinstall iTunes). So is there any way to get all of my music back onto iTunes? Or am I just stuck with the songs I have pretty much for good?

    Thanks in advance

So i figured out that i did not install the win 7 pro version that was supplied by win 7. I downloaded it from the offical windows page. Is there any way to get this version of win 7 that was provided by lenovo, without a CD?? I mean I got several Windows 8 Recovery discs but not CD drive. And can i use the win 8 recovery discs to install win 8  or what?.(I bought the pc with win 7 pro and got win 8 recovery discs).
I currently have got some sort of recovery version on my pc, which i can not reach and use at all.
It would be very nice to get this sorted, as i have tried the windows and lenovo support via chat and telephone.

  • U410 recovery partition reformatted, need help reinstalling Windows 8

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo U410 with a 32GB SSD and a 750GB HDD that are treated as one drive. The previous owner reformatted the entire drive, which erased the recovery partition. Thus, I can'tmake a recovery disc or USB stick (the recovery partition would have to be intact for that to work anyway) and can't reinstall Windows 8.
Can anyone confirm that the recovery media I'd order from Lenovo support would be able to reinstall Windows 8? I'm afraid that they would send me a disc that needs the recovery partition to work.
    Thank you.

You can give them (Lenovo support) a call and ask about it.
I did, they didn't know if it would work.

  • How to reinstall Windows 8.1 on Bootcamp?

I am trying to reinstall Window 8.1 on Bootcamp after Disk Utility reported that the hard drive it was originally located on was failing and needed to be replaced. I did so. Now when Windows 8.1 installer launches, it thinks I'm doing an upgrade and insists that I "reboot Windows Normally" and then launch the Installer, which is impossible because it's freshly formatted, NEW hard drive.
Here are the steps that I followed:
    1) Disk Utility reports that Boot Camp drive is failing and replace it.
    2) Remove failing hard disk, replace with new one.
    3) Launch Bootcamp Assistant.
    4) Download support drives to USB stick.
    5) Begin install process using same Windows disk (64-bit FULL VERSION) used previously.
    6) Windows Installer asks for Product Key.
    7) I enter product key.
    8) WIndows asks to agree to license terms.
    9) Setup presents ONLY two choices:
         Upgrade Installation
         Custom Installation
    10) I choose Upgrade.
    11) Windows Setup reports that Upgrade can only take place from Windows environment, to eject Windows Install disk, and to reboot into Windows "normally." Cannot eject Windows install disk. Click Close box.
    12) Windows Installer relaunches.
    13) Install process starts over again.
    Please note:
    1) This is a fully licensed copy of Windows 8.1
    2) I am using it on the same Mac as the original installation. Only change is the hard drive.
    3) This is not an authentication issue. Windows accepts the Product Key.
    4) Parallels is not involved in any way.
I have talked to several Windows support teams. None were helpful and ultimately said this was a Bootcamp/Apple problem
Apple Support was much more helpful but said they'd never encountered this problem before and were flummoxed.
I have reformatted the Bootcamp hard disk several times. At one point I thought the issue might be that the Mac still thinks the original Windows installation exists because I kept the same name for the new hard disk. Renaming and reformatting did not change the behavior.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I wound up solving, or at least working around my problem. Selecting "Custom Install", instead of Upgrade, took me to a dialog box where  Installer could format the Bootcamp drive from scratch. Installation then proceeded as expected. Unfortunately this cost me my partition, but that was better than being stuck in this Upgrade Catch-22. Note that formatting and partitioning this drive within the Boot Camp assistant did not solve my problem.

  • Reinstall windows 7 and then back to windows 8

Hi would like to reinstall windows 7 for the programs I missed.
What happen to me was I installed files for windows 7 not 8 and a720 crashed and when I installed windows 8 again some things were gone that I wanted to keep. The f2 key will not work after you install windows 8 and that fine.
I have windows 8 working fine now but what I want is to be able to reinstall back to factory and then upgrade to windows 8 again I understand this is what I need from your parts 51-29051 and would like to get this sent to me.
I still have the oem partition with the ork files but don't know how to use them at this time.
My thoughts are I should be able to set my a720 i5 back to the factory settings like how I bought it.
I never thought I would not be able to use onekey for this to happen.
Hope you can help after this I will call Lenovo and see what they can do.

What programs are you missing from W7 installation? If the preinstalled Lenovo software then it's not compatible with W8 anyway.

My Windows 7 Professional desktop system hard disk got corrupted and I took the opportunity to install an SSD for a new system disk and reinstall Windows.  The system is up and running on the SSD, with my old system disk now used for storage as it is still readable.  The only Adobe product I have reinstalled so far is Reader XI but I would like to reinstall Elements 8 and Acrobat 9 without taking up more licences as both are also installed on my laptop.  Can you point me to the best way to do this?  - Thanks

  • Problems with screen resolution after reinstalling Windows 7 Home Premium

Product Name: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
    Product Number: A6X94UA#ABA
    BIOS: F.1C
    Processor: Intel Core i7-2670QM
Graphics Device: Intel HD Graphics Family
I recently had to wipe my laptop and reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium (created restore disk from Windows).  Ever since, I have not been able to adjust my display settings any higher than 1024x768.  My only other option on the adjustment range is 800x600.  I have updated BIOS (it was already at latest version) and I have searched for updated drivers (system says most recent ones are in use), but I cannot get it to provide me with a more appropriate size selection for my screen; I have to scroll back and forth in Internet Explorer, for example, to see a full screen because it doesn't fit correctly on my laptop screen.
It seems like this should be an easy fix, but I can't seem to find the right trick.  Can anyone help?
    TIA,
    Teri

    @buzymom2 ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums. The only thing I would try at this point is to go to this link and download the software and drivers for your notebook.
HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers
Once you have them downloaded save them to a USB memory stick or burn them to a CD or DVD.
Now you will want to boot into safe mode.
    Entering Safe Mode (Windows 7)
Now in safe mode uninstall all your drivers by going into the device manager.
    Uninstall or Reinstall a Device
Once you have the drivers removed, reboot into windows in normal mode.  Now install your drivers one at a time you have to start with the chipset driver.  If you install the drivers without the chipset first it can cause all kinds of problems.
Let me know how things go.
Thank you so much for posting and have a great day.

  • Can't access my apple lossless files on external hard drive after reinstalling windows 8.1

    Hi guys
New to this. I reinstalled windows 8.1 after windows continually asking me to change my password after not recognising it despite it being the right one. All my apple lossless tunes are on my external hard drive. Windows keeps saying 'I don't have access to this file currently'. I tried right clicking on hard drive, clicked properties, and tried assigning administrator rights to everyone but still no luck. Contacted windows who said it was an apple issue so here I am.
Can anyone help. I've got 900 albums on this hard drive and the thought of ripping them all again is stressing me.
    Thanks guys
    Stuart

Changing the path to the media folder doesn't change which database iTunes opens. If your original database is on the external drive then shift-start-iTunes and use the choose option to open it. If you no longer have access to the original database shift-start-iTunes and create a new empty library at X:\iTunes, where X: is the external drive letter, ensure the media folder is set to X:\iTunes\iTunes Media, move all of your content inside X:\iTunes\iTunes Media, use File > Add Folder to Library > X:\iTunes\iTunes Media. See also Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. There are some scripts near the end that can extract ratings, play counts and playlists from your device and the rest of the tip explains how you backup and restore the device with the new library to avoid losing data.

  • Can I reinstall Windows 7 on Boot Camp with the same product key?

I have run into some issues with my Windows partition, so I want to reinstall Windows 7. I have a genuine copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.
What I wish to do is to completely remove the Boot Camp partition, and then create a new one and install Windows 7 over it. However, I have only 1 product license key. When I reinstall Windows 7, it's going to ask for the product key, whih is obviously going to be denied because I have used it.
Is there any way I can acquire another key for this purpose? I am willing to pay a small fee, but I am definitely not willing to pay the full amount for a new Windows 7 copy.
Furthermore, and a little off-topic: Does anyone know if there are any compatability issues with the Windows 8 dev edition and Boot Camp? Can I use the support software for Windows 7? Will it be able to take advantage of the hardware? Will I get sound and internet? Will I be able to scroll with my trackpad?
    Thanks.
[EDIT] I forgot to mention that the main reason I have to create a new partition instead of just Custom Installing over the previous one, is because I require a larger partition size.

    Thanks for your help!
Not to be a pain, but I just want to clarify some things.

The retail version can be reinstalled as much as you want, even to a new computer (just not two at same time)
Yes it will activate just fine on reinstall. Not an issue.
Let's assume I do not have issues about reallocating disk space, and just want to re-do my whole partition. Here's what I would do. Please tell me if it would work fine, or if I would hit a snag somewhere:
Have original retail W7 disk at hand (the one I previously used for my first install).
Remove existing partition using Boot Camp Assistant.
    Re-install using the said disk.
W7 should activate without a problem, even though I've used the license before.
Do I have to do anything on Windows before re-installing it to "deactivate" the copy (or something along those lines) before I can re-activate successfully on my new install?
    And what is System Builder?
    Thanks for all your help!
