Elitebook Folio 1040 G1 - LAN/WLAN Switching

Good day, We are currently receiving reports from our Folio 1040 G1 users regarding Freeze / WLAN / LAN issues. As you probably know, the Folio 1040 G1 has an external adapter that provides LAN and VGA ports. All of our laptops have WLAN/LAN Swicthing enabled. We tried different scenarios and were able to reproduce the problem:- Laptop has wireless button off and is shut down. External LAN/VGA Adapter is disconnected.- The laptop is started. External LAN/VGA Adapter is still disconnected. The wireless button is white (ON). No wireless network appear in the list (altough we have wireless networks available). When opening  HP Connection Manager the WLAN status is "Disabled by LAN/WLAN switching". To solve this issue we can do 2 things:- Connect the external LAN/VGA adapter - This enables the wireless adapter and the users can connect to a wireless network. When the external LAN/VGA adapter is connected the computer stay freeze 50% of the times until we connect a network cable to the LAN port.- Disable WLAN/LAN Switching on the BIOS - The issue doesn't appear but users stay connected to wireless and wired networks. We don't want this to happen. We are using W7 Pro/Ent x64.Bios version is 1.32Drivers are the latest versions available from Softpaq. A similar problem existed with the 840 G1 but found to be a driver version issue. The same solution didn't help in the Folio 1040G1. Can anyone reproduce the issue ?Any guidance / opinions ? Best regards,Carlos

Hi: What model wireless card does your notebook have? it needs an Intel wifi card that support widi. I used this tool to enable screen mirroring.  It will download and install all the components needed if your notebook meets all of the specs. http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/wireless/wireless-display

  • Elitebook Folio 1040 ForcePad problems

    Hi.
I was hoping to get a suggestion for this issue here. After upgrading to the latest Synaptics Forcepad driver for the Folio 1040, I'm having trouble with the 'force' clicks. I have Windows 8.1 x64 installed. Reverting to the previous driver works fine but the CPU usage is really high, which seems to be fixed in the newer driver. However, while the 'tapping' clicks work fine, no force-based gestures (like press down to scroll faster) are working. The edge swipes for the charms bar and app switching works, however. The only problem is it's not detecing force anymore.
What could be the problem? I went through the ForcePad settings and everything is as configured on the old driver.
    Help would be appreciated.

  • Strange dual screen issue with HP Folio 1040 and docking station

    Hi there,
I have a laptop in a docking station. Two displays are connected using the docking station's DisplayPorts. Instead of showing me two separate displays like I'd have expected, xrandr seems to "see" only one large screen.

VIRTUAL1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
eDP1 is the laptop's built-in display, while DP2 seems to represent _both_ displays. When I select 1920x1080, the two displays show the same. When I select 3840x1080, however, the two displays show a side-by-side setup, such that X11 spans over both of them. While I'm happy that I'm now able to make use of the second display, this obviously breaks some software stuff, like fullscreen video in vlc, for example. Any suggestions what I can do about that? Is it possible to software-split the screen such that it looks like a normal dual-head setup again?

You could define two screens in xorg.conf similar to last post here. You would have to select the screen using the -display switch or the DISPLAY variable when using xrandr.

    Hello there,
Is there any way that I can Enable the bios setting Lan/Wlan switching wth VBScript or Powershell for the OS. I would like to roll this optin out via SCCM.

  • Folio 1040

    Hi,
I recently bought an Elitebook Folio 1040.
    Great device - 1 problem....
When it arrived, the pad on the bottom left of the based seemed to be deeper set than the other 3.
As a result the laptop 'rocks' when you type.
Engineer came out earlier this week and replaced the base. Now it rocks on the right hand side.
I have an option to send back DOA but have so much setup on the device that I am not sure I want the hassle of setting up a new device
Is this a common issue with the Folio Ultrabook (maybe because it is so slim)???
    thanks

Please call HP and they might be able to send you an base assembly.

  • Elitebook Folio 9470m - how to create recovery USB in preinstalled Win7?

Hi, this will be my first post here, so please be gentle
I have a new, pretty HP Elitebook Folio 9470m for testing - it came with preinstalled Windows 7 OS. I wanted to check some things, play around with it and as a cautious user I wanted to create a recovery media first. I have a 65GB flash drive which I've previously used as a recovery media for other notebooks and (as this model doesn't have a CD/DVD drive) I wanted to use it this time as well.
First I searched the web to find out how to create a recovery USB for this laptop but HP website gave me the info to use Recovery Manager which I don't have installed on this notebook - when I search for "recovery" I get something like "Create HP recovery CD". And when I try to use this I get an error regarding no writable media (even thou the flash drive is connected).
I stumbled upon a tip to F11 the laptop before boot, but I don't get the Recovery Manager either.
Should I download it and install from somewhere or is there another way to create the recovery stick for this notebook?
    This question was solved.

    Hi Neith,
You can use the HP Recovery Flash Disk utility for Windows 7.  There is more information about the utility on this HP web document.

  • Satellite A200-1GC (PSAE3E) How to disable WLAN switch?

    Hello everybody,
is there any way to disable that stupid wlan switch, which prevents any new wlan card to run properly? I've tried to install several different wlan cards: Intel 5100, Intel 5300 etc. Every card was working properly (device manager), but the wlan led does not lit. Windows 7 64 Bit always says, that i should turn on the switch. But the switch is already turined on. I've installed value added package also. The key combination Fn+F8 simply does not work. When i install the old wlan card Intel 3945, then everything works fine: the wlan led lits and so on. Any comments from toshiba support people maybe?
    Regards,
    Igor

I've found a solution by myself. I've cut the wire on my WIFI 5100 which leads to the pin 20 on the card. The switch still doesn't work, which now doesn't prevent my card to be working nomally. Now i have full 300 Mbit speed. :)
Another option would be to cover the pin 20 on the card with a sticky tape for example.

  • HP EliteBook Folio 9470m Ultrabook - Flash Cache - Flash Cache

I'm trying to deploy Windows 7 x86 SP1 to an HP EliteBook Folio 9470m Ultrabook with Flash Cache.
I'm using MDT 2010 U1 and running the deployment from USB-media.
Reading the BDD.LOG I can see: "LTI applying image G:\Deploy\Operating Systems\W7 x86 Ent 007\7.wim using SETUP.EXE" and after 18 min  "Setup completed successfully." and "LTIApply processing completed successfully." After LTICopyscripts, ZTIConfigure,
ZTIDrivers and ZTINextPhase the computer reboots and I'm getting "Windows boot manager 0xc000000f An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data".
When I'm looking at the Boot Config with BCDEDIT.EXE I can see boot manager points at the Flash Cache installed in the machine:
HarddiskVolume3 is the Flash Cache (output from diskpart, list vol):
I've tried to read setupact.log but can't find whats going wrong.
How to handle computers with Flash Cache in deployment with MDT?

Machines with more than one physical disk are difficult to deploy to arbitrary disks using technologies like MDT and/or SCCM OSD.
By default you can configure MDT and/or OSD to deploy a task sequence to a specific disk index like Disk(0), but trying to add intelligence to change the target disk is non trivial.
For MDT litetouch you can write a script to change the target disk during the task sequence execution by modifying the OSDDiskIndex variable. So in this example, you could create a script to select the first disk that is larger than 50GB.
Otherwise you are left to deploy to the 1st disk enumerated by the system, which in this case can be the ssd cache disk.
I have written a utility to help modify the OSDDiskIndex using a script.
    http://keithga.wordpress.com/2013/09/18/ztiselectbootdisk-wsf/
In the example above I would add the script just before the "format and partition" step in the TAsk sequence. Set a WMI condition for the model of the HP, then add the following to the CS.ini:
    [Settings]
    Properties=OSBootDiskOverrideWQL
    [default]
OSBootDiskOverrideWQL = WHERE Size < 53687091200 and InterfaceType = 'IDE' and MediaType != 'Removable Media'

  • LAN/WLAN backup hardware

I thought I would be clever - and cheap - and use a Seagate Dockstar (aka Pogoplug) on my LAN for running backups. It's easily discoverable in Bonjour and works wonderfully!
While the Dockstar is excellent for maintaining a media library/share with my Apple TV etc. as well as sort of backing up folders via Chronosync - I ran into one major limitation. The Dockstar only supports the most rudimentary DOS caveman level file naming. As a result, if I try to sync anything with sophisticated names - almost any character other than alphanumeric - the names get badly skewed - some to the point they won't open anymore without some serious massaging. This is not Chronosync's fault - it's Pogoplug's fault.
So the question is simple - what LAN/WLAN hardware setup can I implement (on the cheap) that will support full OSX file names for full system backup and disc/folder/sync support?
Additional info - I keep a 24/7 Timemachine and also rotate two separate external SuperDuper and CarbonCopyClone backups (done manually) by plugging, backing up and removing. The point of going to the LAN would be to allow the secondary backup(s) to be off the desktop and fully automated on nightly schedules. Time Machine isn't supported on Pogoplug, and even if it were it's the worst possible backup option IMHO - plus I need to routinely sync and redundantly backup other hundreds of gigabytes of files in project folders as well (high end photography mostly).
Right now I'm splitting the 10TB of space I have 50/50 between desktop and network while manually maintaining 3x redundant data across as many different external drives for each targeted sync folder. It's getting a little unwieldy to say the least so I'm long overdue to automate this.

Windows 8 has a Group Policy called "Minimize the number of simultaneous connection to the Internet or WIndows Domains"
http://www.grouppolicy.biz/2012/03/the-ultimate-list-of-new-interesting-windows-8-group-policy-computer-settings/ This means only one network will connect if that connection is the domain network connection.
But nothing for Windows 7 or earlier that I know of..
