Ellipse Marquee Tool designing lines too faint

My eyes are getting older and on some photos, the working lines are too faint or the wrong color to use draw the elipses. Is it possible to change the working lines, the li8nes created when we're dragging, to be brighter or different colors. Deke's CS4 One on One, illustration 4-36, has such similar colors in the picture area to be ellipsed, that the expanding lines are almost invisible. Being able to brighten them or change color would be a big help. Could be used with other selection tools too.

Use Marquee tool to draw an ellipse over a photo

I am trying to write a user's guide. I take screen shots and then bring them into Photoshop elements. In previous versions I was able to use the Marquee tool to draw an ellipse over a portion of the screen I wanted to discuss. See below: It was very easy to do. Now I am using PE 8 and I cannot seem to do it.

I tried it but really don't like the results. See below:
the ellipse is soft and washed out. Compare it with the one I was able to do with the previous version of PE:
which is crisp and has that little open flourish at the right side.It looks like a drawn image. Much more professional looking.

Video layers with Rectangle Marquee Tool

I have 6 video layers open in Photoshop. I am using the Marquee Tool to delete areas of the video layers (so I could see the layer(s) behind). Once I do this I realise that the deleted areas are only visible on that frame of the video timeline. I want the deleted areas to stay consistent throughout the whole timeline. I originally was going to do this in Premiare however I realised it would be too time consuming for the many sections I wanted to create.
Is there a way to select areas of a video layer and delete these areas showing the layers behind, and for it to be visible throughout the whole time line?

The problem with using layer masks is that I will have to selectively hide/show each area that I want on all 6 video layers. I have a grid of 78 rectangles that I'm trying to selectively chose what areas of the 6 video layers.
Basically I'm doing a test video where I have 6 different videos recorded at different focal lengths - showing different areas of the shot in focus and out. I'm using the grid to cut out sections thereby showing areas in focus and out of focus.
I attach a screen shot of the grid with the image and without. Doing a still image is fine. I just want this be able to do this with the video.

Single row/column marquee tool "add to" not working

I was trying to follow along with a tutorial that was using the single row/column marquee tool. In it they used shift click to add to the selection. It's not working for me. I also tried clicking on the add to icon for the marquee tool, and it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how I might fix it?

hey i know this is late but if its any help now all u need to do i zoom in a lil closer the proceed with the selection. hope i helped. oh and u have to make sure your grid lines are perfectly on the 10,20,30,... percent mark and u have to be zoomed in if u want to see your lines. the problem is your file is too big and has somn to do with ur computer. its not only mac windows too.
p.s. when ur done drawing the boxes u can zoom out...i know the tutorial

Marquee tool problem

I've been searching message boards and google alike for tips on drum quantizing. One method has you highlight your drum tracks after grouping them and then using the marquee to tab to each transient, and split by locator to separate out the transients. For some reason when doing this my split by locator icon and key command both don't work. The computer just beeps when I try to use it. I havent read anywhere of anybody having this problem before so I am stumped on what to do exactly. Anyone have any advice?

Don't use the Marquee Tool; try using the Ellipse Tool set to "Paths".
Don't forget strokes in Photoshop are made of pixels and will never look like a line of similar weight drawn as a vector.

Rectangular Marquee tool broken in CS5.1?

The rectangular marquee tool no longer seems to work when choosing the "Fixed size" option. It seems to just select the entire image area regardless of what values are entered.
This is with version CS5.1 as provided in Creative Suite Design Premium CS5.5.
I've had no problems with this tool in other versions. Can anyone else confirm this behaviour?

Check the units you specified for the fixed size. My guess is that it's set to something larger than your image.

Rectangule Marquee Tool Does Not Copy (Elliptical Marquee Tool Does)

I am unable to copy and paste using the rectangular marquee tool. When I click and try to draw the dashed outlines, I just get X and Y coordinates. When I switch to the ellipitcal marquee tool, I get the dashed lines and can
copy with no problem. I had been able to use the rectangular marquee tool before. Not sure what happened to prevent it now. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Inaccurate Marquee tool

I've recently upgraded from Photoshop cs3 to cs5.1 and have noticed that the marquee tool's selection is not as accurate as I'd like. For something simple like drawing a selection around a square I could previously do this down to the exact pixel with a single click and drag. My process (while working at 100%) now goes like this:
i) Choose which bit of the cursor I place in the top left of the square to trace (I use the black inner lines)
ii) Click and begin dragging and see that the selection in the top left is now 1 pixel down and 1 pixel to the right of where I clicked.
iii) Drag the selection to the bottom right of the square and align the inner lines of the crosshair
iv) Release the mouse button. The top left corner now springs back into the originally clicked position (good). The bottom right corner now jumps up to 2 pixels up and 2 pixels left of the actual corner.
I am left trying to approximate how far past my object corner I overshoot in order for it to be correct when it 'jumps' back. It feels as though I'm getting similar selection errors as if I was working at a random image zoom such as 337%
Anyone else experiencing this or more importantly know how to remedy it?

The problem occurs at 100% and is marginally improved at 200% - although I can't get an accurate selection in 10 attempts.
Also in cs3 the Marquee tool's crosshair was 1 pixel thick and now in cs5.1 it is 3 pixels thick due to the white outline around it, I find this harder to use and unable to switch off.
Selecting cursors 'precise' in preferences doesn't fix it

Manifest files are limited to lines of 78 characters or something like that, and lines starting with a space are taken as continuations of the previous line.

CS4 marquee and paint bucket too sensitive

Hi, I've just upgraded from CS3 and straight away ive tried using the paint bucket, colouring a black and white image. When I either use the paint bucket or the marquee tool to select the white area inside the black lines, it randomly selects areas outside the black lines, even with Tolerance set to 0! I can't even use the program if the correct areas cant be selected. Any suggestions?

Rectangler marquee tool seems to be feathering my selection ?

Hi everybody
I have selected some content, that is 100% solid colour and no Alpha, in my image with Rectangler Marquee Tool (with feather set to 0px). I want open this content in a new window so i ctrl-c or ctrl-shift-c, then make new document ctrl-n and paste it in. When I zoom in, 1 pixel on the left and right sides are partially transparent.
I'd very much appreciate some clarity on this as it has brought my web-design to a halt

Uncheck the Anti-Aliasing setting. This setting helps reduce jagged edges, but essentially feathers the selection at the edges.

Photoshop lags when i use the marquee tool

I recently updates to Photoshop CC (2014) and ever since I did I have been having problems with lag when using the Marquee tool. I have tried reinstalling Photoshop and even downgrading back to CC but it doesn't help. Does anyone know what causes this?

Rectanqular marquee tool bug (opengl)

I performed photoshop reset few days ago due some color problems and now Photoshops basic selection tool: Rectanqular marquee tool has some visibility bug. Left and top sides of the selection does not go outside of the selected pixels, it's kind of half way (half pixel) on top and left pixels. Right and bottom goes normally outside of the pixels.
Really irritating because it's very hard to see is it inside or outside of selection.
Already tried tool reset, photoshop re-install, settings removal, total CS4 removal and re-install and now luck, so it must be system related ? I'm quite sure it worked earlier and does work my work computer.
See attached picture, the pink line is 1pixel and selections does not touch it
Update: Works when OpenGL drawing is disabled on performance settings, but this is not a fix :/

I changed the settings so it is better now, but still have the freezing problem with the resizing and the brush tool. Some one suggested the problem is the graphic card so i will send my computer back as i haven't got problem on my macbook just on the imac. good luck to you as well and if you find something let me know.
