Elm. Change ntp server.

Hi.
I have elm and cucm installed on the save virtual host. I want change ntp server address on that host. Do it need to generate net license after tha or not ?

Hi ,
No.
In case of VMWARE, use 8 to 9 parameters to generate a license MAC. Even if you change any one of the parameters, such as NTP Address or the Time Zone, the license MAC will change. Then, you need to procure new licenses. However, with this Enterprise License Manager in place, even if you made those changes you do not have to worry about the licenses. There is a product instance that has already been added to the ELM. Even if you make any changes, it will grab the required license from ELM.

  • OVS 2.2.2 - change ntp server

    Hi all,
Would like to get some advice on changing the ntp server on our ovs 2.2.2 and ovm 2.2.2 hosts. Due to an oversight, our ntp server was decommissioned some time ago and as it stands now, our ovs/ovm hosts are about 30 minutes behind the current (new) ntp server.
What would be the sequence of changing the ntp servers on the hosts? Do I change the master server first and then the rest of the ovs hosts with the manager last? Or the manager first, followed by the master server and the rest?
Do I need to take each host into maintenance mode before changing the ntp server on each? But if I do that, then the master server changes if I take it into maintenance. Unless I don't need to change the setting on each hosts in any particular order.
My worry is once a host syncs with the new ntp server, the 30 minute difference can cause some issues.
Your advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping the 30 minute difference wouldn't be a an issue. If it was just a few minutes, i would have "ntpd'ed" them already.
But thought I'll check here to see if there could be any idiosyncracies in ovs 2.2.2 that may spit the dummy if one of them is suddenly 30 minutes ahead.
    Thanks again.

  • Does Phone NTP Server reference change my licensed files, (CUCM)?

    Hi all,
    Good day.
I just wanted to know of on my CUCM Admin web page, on PHONE NTP REFERENCE, if adding or deleting NTP's does make my CUCM to re-host my active licensed files.
Because I changed the NTP server on the CLI call manager, (delete it and added one). And now all my licenses are invalid
I have a few more questions.
Which are the differences between of the Phone NTP Reference Server and NTP reference servers (CLI)?
Which one I do not must change?
If mi licenses say "Invalid", what is the worst case scenario could happen with my current configurations of IP Phones/GW/GK/Trunks/CSS?
    Thanks in advice.
    John

I assume you are using a UCS server,,,
The license MAC is generated by hashing the following user-configured parameters:
    ◊ Time zone
◊ NTP server 1 (or ?none?)
    ◊ NIC speed (or ?auto?)
    ◊ Hostname
    ◊ IP Address (or ?dhcp?)
    ◊ IP Mask (or ?dhcp?)
    ◊ Gateway Address (or ?dhcp?)
    ◊ Primary DNS (or ?dhcp?)
    ◊ SMTP server (or ?none?)
◊ Certificate Information (Organization, Unit, Location, State, Country)
When you change any of the parameters that create the license MAC,  the license that you obtained with it becomes invalid. You must request a  rehosting of the license to obtain a valid license. The old license  continues to work for a 30-day grace period.
To rehost your licenses, you must open a case with the licensing team. Contact the licensing team at [email protected]
During  the grace period, you can change the settings back to the licensed  values to make your original license valid again. If you need more than  30 days of grace period, change your settings back to the licensed  values, then change them back to the new values that you want to use.  You will get another 30- day grace period.

The domain controller (Server 2012R2) is hosted on Hyper-V (Server 2012R2). It is a PDC.
    - firewall disabled
    - cleaned up w32tm:
    net stop w32time

    Hi rosch,
Based on your description, please check if disable the "Time synchronization" Integration service. Please refer
    to the following operation.
In Hyper-V Manager, right click the DC and select “Settings…”.
In the left panel of Settings, navigate to Integration Services and click it.
Then in the right panel, please uncheck Time synchronization.
By the way, please check if can connect to the time server and UDP port was opened for NTP.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • ASA5500 using Windows 7 computer as NTP server

I have an ASA5510 connected to a computer running Windows 7 (the NTP Server) on its "inside" interface.
Using the ASDM, I have configured the ASA5510 to use the Windows 7 as its NTP server (my architecture forces me to use a local machine as an NTP server):
-IP address: 192.0.99.1 (the ASA5510 has an IP address of 192.0.99.40)
         -Interface: inside
         -Key number: None
         -Enable NTP authentication: no.
I have other Windows computers on the "inside" interface using the NTP Server, so NTP traffic is relayed without any problem. But somehow, the ASA5510 is not able to synchronize with the NTP Server.
I see the following log entry:
         -Source IP: 192.0.99.1
         -Source Port: 123
         -Destination IP: 192.0.99.40
         -Destination port: 65535
-Description: Teardown UDP connection 3905 for inside: 192.0.99.1/123 to identity: 192.0.99.40/65535 duration 0:02:01 bytes 96
so it seems like the ASA5510 sends a request to the NTP Server, but I am not sure whether the reply doesn't get processed correctly, or the connection stays open too long (my UDP connection timeout is the default, 2 minutes).
I had trouble getting SonicWALL NSA2400s to use Windows 7 devices as NTP servers. I had to get a firmware version where there was no MD5 authentication (which I think is OK in this case), and change a setting in the Windows registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/W32Time/Config/AnnounceFlags: from 0xa to 0x5)
    any insight is welcome.
    Pedro

  • Anyone got NTP working with a Windows 2008 NTP server?

    Hello,
I'm trying to sync the time on our routers and swithces with a Windows 2008R2 server, but it doesn't work.  Has anyone managed to do this:
    Config:
    ntp master
    ntp update-calendar
    ntp server 192.168.2.164
    sh ntp associations
address         ref clock         st   when   poll   reach    delay    offset     disp

    Windows 2008R2 server
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpServer]"
    "Enabled"=dword:00000001
    restart server
    w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:uk.pool.ntp.org,0x8 /syncfromflags:MANUAL
    net stop w32time
    net start w32time
    Doesnt work
Woudl Linux like Ubuntu be better?
    Thanks

I got this working from a cisco 2911 router to Windows 7 computer.
As per many articles, you are missing:-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Config]"
    "AnnounceFlags"=dword:00000005
But the one that allows Cisco kit to Sync is:-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Config]"
    "LocalClockDispersion"=dword:00000000
This article http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/network-time-protocol-ntp/108076-ntp-troubleshoot.html talks about having a root-dispersion higher than 1000ms (1 second) causing Cisco IOS-NTP to unsynchronizes itself.
This article http://htluo.blogspot.co.uk/2009/02/ntp-network-time-protocol.html#comment-form was the only one I found that added to the normal enable ntp server registry keys information, stating to change ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Config\LocalClockDispersion’  from 10 to 0
There was also articles that said that the Windows NTP implementation was version 3, and therefore you had to append ‘version 3’ to the routers ‘ntp server x.x.x.x’ command. This may be perhaps true for earlier windows versions?, but was NOT required for Windows 7.

  • 3750 stack won't sync with NTP server

Any help greatly appreciated with this one - I can't for the life of me figure out what's going wrong here.
I'm working on a 3750 stack in Singapore (UTC +8) and I'm trying to get it to sync its clock with 3.sg.pool.ntp.org.
This is the weird part - "sh ntp associations" shows that it is syncing:
address         ref clock       st   when   poll reach  delay  offset   disp
    *~199.195.193.200 203.117.180.36   2     52     64   377 80.936 -13895.  1.771
    * sys.peer, # selected, + candidate, - outlyer, x falseticker, ~ configured
And "sh ntp associations de" shows that it's happy:

But the clock is stubbornly remaining unsynchronised ("sh ntp st"):

root dispersion is 14.62 msec, peer dispersion is 3.26 msec
loopfilter state is 'CTRL' (Normal Controlled Loop), drift is 0.000000000 s/s
system poll interval is 64, never updated.
NTP-relevant config is as follows (no ACLs, outbound UDP 123 allowed on perimeter firewall):
    clock timezone UTC 8 0
    ntp server 3.sg.pool.ntp.org
I have configured a pair of stacks in Hong Kong for NTP (though that was a couple of months ago and I recall that those were a pain at the time as well) and those are working fine.

Much to my annoyance, the switch stack is now synchronised.  No  configuration changes were made in the interim; it just looks like it  needed a long time (well over an hour in this case) to start syncing  properly.

  • NTP Server Modification

    Hi There,
I am having on DC & ADC both are virtual machines and configured on HYPER -V environment.
Now during the time of implementation DC is made as the NTP server for the entire domain.
Now i need to check the configuration of NTP Server and needs to change the time setting in that.

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 as NTP server for IOS clients

I am trying to synchronize the clock in my switches using a Windows 2003 ntp server. Debugging shows that the switch receives an answer from the server, but will not accept it. Debugging shows "Failed validity tests 20" which I think means "bogus packet received".

    w32tm /config /update
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters\Type="NT5DS"
    Restarted Windows time service
Note that NT5DS means that this server will get its time from another domain controller in my domain.
The point is to make sure that time really is synchronized at the server. If you want the server to sync from an external source, consider changing the source to something other than time.windows.com
net time /querysntp and net time /setsntp

  • My solution for AEBS locking up (NTP server not reachable)

I'll prefix this by saying that the issue that I found is pretty rare, but easy to fix.
I had a problem with my Airport Express that would cause all sorts of weird problems. After a couple days, either it wouldn't print, not allow clients to associate, not accept the correct password in the Airport Admin Utility, or not show up in the Airport Admin utility.
It turns out that I had enabled using a NTP server, but the NTP server wasn't reachable. In my network setup, the airports are in part of the subnet that's firewalled from the internet. The fix was for me to change the NTP server to an internal machine, but turning off NTP would have worked just the same.
NTP seems to only be used for logging, so turning it off shouldn't affect network performance.
I haven't had to reset either base stations since.

    Here you go!
Use the terminal and be a root user and follow the steps bellow:
    cd /etc
    more ntp.conf
    Then include this two lines:
    server 127.127.1.1 prefer
fudge 127.127.1.1 stratum 3 refid NIST
After that save and exit. Then checked your ntp using the server admin tool and thats done. Be warn don't mend anything with the system preferences date and time.
