  • Elph 330 WiFi vs 340 WiFi

I am considering buying a 330 and WiFi is very important to me. I read that it was improved on the 340 which I believe is photographically inferior. What's the difference re the WiFi? Thanks.
    Dave

Since the 340 is easier to connect per the Canon person and the rest is similar for wifi functions personally I would go with the 340 because of the added zoom 12X vs 10X, more mega pixels 16MP vs 12MP, 1/3 the shutter lag .05s vs .15s, more lines per picture height 2265 vs 2069. The 330 had a max ISO of 6400 which is twice as fast as the newer 340 with a max ISO of 3200...for me that would not steer me to the 330 though and it would be to grainy in most cases to use that high an ISO of 6400. The 340 has 3 video resolution levels with an added 480p which is good for emailing whereas the 330 only has the two, 1080p and 720p. The prices are pretty close also..like I said Id go with the 340 but hold off if you can others may chime in too with some advice for you.

  • How to disable the anti-shake feature on a canon powershot elph 330 hs when taking video?

    Hello Canon Users,
I have a question in regards to my Canon Powershot ELPH 330 HS. Most of the time, I use this camera sitting down and talking into it. The Anti-Shake feature is excellent for taking video when moving around, but when sitting down, the following happens. When I move, the background moves a bit making the video very unstable and it looks horrible. Is there a way to disable the anti shake/image stability feature? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

See, what happens is, I have my camera on a stable surface (my tripod), Then, when I move, for example moving my hands or my body slightly, the background shakes a little bit. I don't know why, but I'm assuming it has something to do with the stabilization. If I stay perfectly still, the background will not move, and everything will be fine. But even the slightest hand gestures or body movement makes the background shake.

  • Elph 330 Continuous Shooting Mode

I decided to finally try out the continuous shooting mode on my Elph 330, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it's supposed to do. From the manual, it sounds like I should be able to hold the shutter button down and the camera will continuously snap pictures, but no matter what I try it just takes a single picture. I'm sure I have the mode set to continuous, and per the manual I don't have any settings on that conflict with continuous shooting. Am I misunderstanding the purpose of the continuous shooting mode? Or is there some other secret that isn't in the manual?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes, that's the intent of continuous shooting; you hold down the button and it takes multiple shots.  It's possible that certain shooting modes don't allow continuous shooting.  I'd assume it has a sports mode, try that to see if it works.

  • ELPH 330 HS or the ELPH 340 HS

I am looking for a camera outside my cellphone  Looking for something that is midrange in price as well as quality of the pictures and that is where I found the ELPH 330 HS. All thr reviews and video's I have read/watched have been nothing but good responses. So I was going to purchase the 330 HS but saw in March there is the 340 coming out. Spec wise they are different the 340 has more zoom/mega pixels. Doing a side by side comparison here I did notice and don't know if this makes a big difference the 340 has a Digic 4 processor and the 330 has a 5.
I am confused as to which one is better.  Part of me says go with the 330 HS.
Help a noob out lol =)

Have you compared the difference? If not check this out  http://www.digicamdb.com/compare/canon_powershot-elph-340-hs-vs-canon_powershot-elph-330-hs/

  • Want to replace 28 mm, Power Shot SD 880 IS ELPH. Main use - toddler pics to easily upload/share.

Need to replace my Water damaged power shot SD 880 IS ELPH. Mainly used taking photos of active toddlers. Liked the kids and pets setting on this camera, although the shutter speed was slow, especially when using the flash.
Want wide angel lens, easy to share and upload photos to iPhone,iPad, my Dell XP Home model windows computer and photo printing sites like Shutterfly and Mpix.
Confused about all the various power shot models and features offered. Please help. Thanks Cookie

    Hi CookieJ,
Thank you for posting.  I am more than happy to help.
Based on what you are looking for, I recommend the PowerShot SX280 HS or the PowerShot ELPH 330 HS.  Both offer a fair amount of zoom, wide angle lens, and built-in WiFi for easily connecting to your iPad, iPhone and home computer.  They also have much faster image processors and Canon's HS System.  The Canon HS SYSTEM lets you use higher shutter speeds to capture clearer images with reduced noise and blur in a variety of situations.  They both use a CMOS image sensor instead of a CCD.  This, coupled with the faster image processors, greatly improves tracking, continuous shooting speed, as well as autofocus speed.  Feel free to look at both on our website, www.powershot.com.

  • 330 HS Lens Distortion

    Hey folks,
I recently bought a Power shot Elph 330 HS camera. I'm very happy with it, other than one gripe.
There is some sort of warping/stretching/barrel distortion at the edge of the images. It only really matters to me with group pictures where a person is in this part of the image that is distorted.
Is there a preset filter to correct this after the fact? Is there a setting on the camera where this is less of a problem?
Thanks so much for any advice!

This sounds like the normal outcome of the wide angle shooting. All fixed lenses have some distortion at the wide angle, especially less than 35mm. In order to compensate you will need to zoom in a little.to reduce the distortion. I know that's not the answer you want, but unfortunately this is the result of trying to accomodate the zoom range of the camera. This type of camera does not warrant the best of lenses due to the price range, so there is little that can be done to correct this.
I'd love it if someone can prove me wrong and has a better solution for you.

  • Short elph battery life

A recently purchased Elph 330 HS can get through about 20 photos, some with flash, followed by single wired upload, before the message "recharge the battery" appears.  LIkely cause:  is this a bad battery,   a camera defect causing rapid drain,  or a user error? My old Coolpix would take many many more on a single charge.

Either a bad battery, bad/incomplete charge, or something faulty in the camera system.  You should get many, many more shots out of a battery.
First I'd try giving it a full charge or two, just to be sure.  I would also try a second battery if I had one.  If you're going to keep the camera I recommend having at least two batteries anyway.  However, if I ruled out user error, and the camera was brand new, I'd probably just swap it out for a new one before spending too much time investigating.

  • HELP: CameraWindow DC "Failed To Connect To The Server"

Just purchased a Powershot SX280 HS.  It is fantastic little camera.  I have been a Nikon guy for years, but this camera really has changed my mind.  I am having a challenge however.  I am unable to complete the camera setup through CameraWindow DC, as every time I try to "Set Up Web Services," and Log In, I get the message "Failed To Connect To The Server."  I am completely registered, and can log in and access Canon Image Gateway, as well as upload content.  WIFi tests out good, and I am able to connect from camera to both my iPhone and iPod.  Do you think the CIG server may be down on their end?  I am simply trying to complete setup so that I can get the Fscebook and Twitter interface on the Powershot.  Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I had the same problem with my ELPH 330 HS and called customer service yesterday. Here's what needed to happen to fix it:
    1) In the "Canon" folder under "Program Files" that is created when you install the software, there is a subfolder called "WirelessCameraConnectionSetting". Within that folder is an exe file called "WirelessCameraConnectionSetting.exe".  Double click it and go through prompts, if any.
    2) Make sure you've already created a user account on Canon's site.
    3) Double-check that your camera is listed as registered under your user profile. I had registered my camera before creating my user account, and so even though I had received an email congratulating me on registering it, the camera was not associated with my user account and it needs to be in order for the "setup web access" through CameraWindow to work.  In fact, there's an "additional features" selection called something like "use Canon iMAGE Gateway" that needs to be checked on while registering so that you have established the camera and the ability to use it via the web with your user profile.
Once I'd done all that, it worked just fine. I responded about all this in my customer service feedback survey that they emailed me last night. So hopefully, they'll provide a packaging blow-in or a link on their site. But since I found this forum post by searching CameraWindow Failed To Connect To Server, I'm hoping that if nothing else, others will find this before needing to call themselves.
    Hope it helped!

  • Anybody use a camera harness for the Canon PowerShot S X 40?

Love the camera. I need a harness to keep it handy on hikes & when cross country skiing.

You didn't mention what cameras you tried and were dissapointed with, but since you mention that you may go with a better setup later this year, you can buy a used SD890 IS at http://www.keh.com/camera/Canon-Digital-Point-and-Shoots/1/sku-DC059991017580?r=FE. If that link doesn't work, then try http://www.keh.com/Camera/format-Digital/system-Canon-Digital/category-Point-and-Shoots?s=1&bcode=DC... for the main website. As far as the new Canon PowerShot ELPH cameras, I think the ELPH 330  HS might be the new equivalent of your camera with a few upgrades, such as a longer zoom range. All the new ELPH cameras lack the optical viewfinders, but some now include wifi.
The S110 is an excellent compact camera but is replaced by the S120. But since it is the 'older" model, the price is about $150.00 less. Small and lightweight, it has a larger sensor than the ELPH cameras and full manual control for getting more out of the camera. It lists for about $300.00, but you should be able to find them for less on the internet.

  • Auto mode focus selection sometimes not logical

I just purchased a refurbrished ELPH 330 and am trying its many settings.  In auto mode the camera sometimes seems to select objects (no people in scene) to focus on that aren't logical.  For example, if I have a plant on a table with a piece of paper in the foreground or background, it seems to select the paper rather than the plant even if the camera is centered on the plant.  I also don't understand why sometimes it has a white focus frame around an object that turns green when the shutter is half presses, and sometimes it doesn't have a white fucus frame and when I press the shutter half way a single or multiple green frames will appear.  Without the white focus frame there doesn't appear to be any point or points of focus.
It appears to me that auto mode works best for people and not other objects.  Am I correct?

In my opinion AUTO is pretty much designed for those you hand the camera to so they can take YOUR photo. They obviously wouldn't know how to use it properly, have read the manual nor necessarily know ANYTHING about photography. It isn't the setting a photographer would use when trying to capture a specific scene unless it was as basic as it gets..

  • About Canon HS system of low lighting

How well is Canon HS system for taken low light pictures where there little light? I am going to a basket ball game and take pictures in the stand of  a group picture but not sure how well HS system will do in low lighting.  I am thinking of getting Canon PowerShot ELPH 330 HS Black. How fast is the focusing and the DIGIC 5 Image Processor?

    Thank you Mike,
I have a older Canon A720 IS Powershot camera and it don't take great low light pictures and I have to use exposure setting button on the camera if I don't want to use flash that have liging from a lamp.  It takes great outdoor and indoor pictures just not great on low liging and when you want to not use flash. It have a CCD sensor and the ELPH 330 HS have a CMOS senor that in DSLR's. There is a lag with the camera in wanting to take next picture when it writing  to the memory card. I have messed some improtant shots because of the lag.
I am moving up to newest technology and hope the ELPH 330 HS will performed better then my older Canon A720 Powershot camera. I am hoping battery life is a lot better and write speeds on memory card have improved. I always wanted a camera that took wide 24 pictures because I take many group pictures and have to stand back farther with my Canon A720.  I take pictures at birthday parties that have kids and it hard to take pictures of them. I hope the new camera can deal with moving groups of kids. I take some videos and hope new camera makes corrections to the video. If you in low light setting place (like candle lighting)
I look to see if ELPH 330 HS have pure color system LCD screen on Canon product page of ELPH 330 HS but it don't say. There not even a product manual on ELPH 330 HS under manual area.

  • Recommend PowerShot camera for mom

I am looking to get a PowerShot camera for my mom, about 100 bucks.
    Requirements:
AA Battery's (or non standard battery's you buy in the store)
    Large LCD viewing screen.
    SD memory card.
    Simple usage
I want to have AA battery's as I do NOT think that she would remember to buy another battery.  I can / will buy a canon battery for her, but I am trying to think of the REALITY of the situation, she will probably forget it, etc.
I was looking at the one below, and it seemed to be nice, and around 100 bucks.  I am open to suggestions / recommendations, etc.!  Just saw this and seemed nice.
Canon PowerShot ELPH 330 HS Digital Camera (Silver)
Her camera style  "ok everyone, get together....closer...come on...like you love each other...perfect"  click!  That's it.
She just loves to capture the moment.  Yes, a camera phone would work for her, but NO smartphone!

    MLCarter1976,
The ELPH camera you are suggesting is an excellent camera choice for capturing the moment. However, you mentioned that you want AA batteries, and the ELPH line of cameras use rechargeable lithium battery packs. The Canon PowerShot A1400 uses AA batteries, and costs about $84.00 from B&H. There are not many Canon cameras that use AA batteries anymore, even under $100.00. The LCD screen is a little smaller than the ELPH screen since the A1400 includes a viewfinder. The picture quality is also not quite as nice as the ELPH series, but under most normal conditions the photos will be fine. Low light will require using the flash.
If you do go with a camera that uses AA batteries, I would strongly recommend getting some top line rechargeable NiMH batteries or better since these cameras will go through even the expensive AA batteries rather quickly. One other thing is that all Canon cameras do not come with built in memory, so you will need to purchase an SD memory card.
Good luck on the camera search.

  • HT201945 How do I use my time capsule on an existing WIFI network?

How do I use my Time Capsule on an existing WIFI network?

Use an Ethernet cable to connect from one of the LAN <--> ports on your existing wireless router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule and then use the setup "wizard" on your Mac to configure the Time Capsule.
It will suggest that you set up the Time Capsule to create a new wireless network. If you don't want or need another wireless network, you can turn off the wireless function of the Time Capsule and use it as wired hard drive only.
Leave the Ethernet cable connected at all times. If you need to locate the Time Capsule in a different area, you can put it anywhere that the Ethernet cable will reach up to about 330 feet or 100 meters.
The only exception to using an Ethernet cable would be if your existing wireless network is provided by another Apple router. Then.....you would have the option to have the Time Capsule connect using wireless and extend the network, although using a wired connection would still be the better way to go in terms of performance.

  • How do you play music from a playlist on an iPhone without using WiFi and iCloud?

I travel in a RV and frequently park in campgrounds that do not have WiFi. I've been told I can copy iTunes playlists (selected from my copied CDs on my Mac) onto my iPhone 5S. I can then, using a mini stereo jack go from the output on the iPhone to the aux input on my DVD player and thereby play my playlists of copied CD music on my RV sound system. All well and good except I tried my Music app on my iPhone and could not find a play function. I found the iTunes Radio but that only seemed to work with a WiFi connection. What am I missing?
As you can tell, I am not experienced with the iPhone although I've used a Mac for years. Is there a basic tutorial on how to accomplish my stated task or at least use the basic music function? I've tried to find something on the Apple website but haven't been able to find anything yet.
    Thanks in advance.

    Chris -
Those 2 playlists were a total of 498 songs. I have just been using the default rate when I load a CD and click on import into iTunes. Is there a better way? My second 2 playlists have about 330 songs plus about another 20 I'm going to load today and then stop and see about syncing them on my iPhone as well. I've gotten about half of my CDs imported. This is obviously a do-as-you-get-time task that will take quite a while. Not so much importing the CD, but listening to at least a couple bars of each song to see which I want to put on a playlist.
