EM Oracle 10g - only primary oracle home discovered

Hello,
configuration:
first server works as primary database
second server should work as a standby database
problem:
we can start 'add standby database', but in step 3 (Standby Oracle Home) only the primary database server is discovered.
Both machines are identical, same OS and Oracle version.
tnsping works in both directions.
Is this a problem with listener/tnsnames configuration, with EM or with the configuration of the standby/primary server?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

  • How to set Oracle 11g as Primary Oracle Home

    Hi All,
    I've Windows 7 operating system & have Oracle 11g client ( enterprise edition), Oracle 10g XE and Oracle Developer Suite 10g. I want to know how can I set Oracle_11g_home as my primary oracle home.
    Note: Currently, the home of Oracle Developer Suite 10g is my primary home as it gets invoked whenever I type sqlplus in the command prompt or tnsping my remote database from command prompt.
    Regards,
    MK

    You have two options. Either edit your %PATH% environment variable and place the Path related to your 11g home first. Another option is to add an ORACLE_HOME environment variable that points to your 11g home.
    Hope this helps!

  • Does Oracle 10G supports 2 Oracle homes on same Host?

    Hi,
    I have installed oracle 10 G R2 on windows OS. I have installed oracle twice, i.e. i have two oracle homes. After installation these are the problems i am facing:
    1. I am not able to start oracleDBconsoleorcl, OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSlistener services. I am not able to get sql command prompt for the oracle home1.
    2. But I am able to start oracleDBconsoleorcl2, OracleOraDb10g_home2TNSlistener services. I am able to get sql command prompt for the oracle home2.
    Can anyone please tell me what the problem is? Someone told me that in 10G i cannot have two Oracle homes. Is it true? if yes then waht is the work around for this problem.
    Thanks
    Varun

    Why have you installed it twice?
    You only need a single home for running any number of instances. (though I question the logic of the person who runs multiple database instances on the same platform as sop)
    Running multiple homes are usually a solution when having to run two different version instances. E.g. installing Oracle 10G in addition to a 9i installation in order to create a 10G database to use for porting the 9i database, after which the 9i database and installation will be trashed.
    Running two homes of the same version is silly - you're simply duplicating a truck load of static files, executables, libraries, message files and so on.. for what purpose?

  • No Oracle Home Selector in 10g?

    I finished installing 10.1.0.2 DB on Win XP Professional a short while ago. This machine already had 8.1.7 client, 9.0.1 client, and 9.2.0 db installed.
    I went to Oracle Home Selector under Oracle Installation Products on my start menu and saw only previous ORACLE_HOMEs are available.
    I checked my PATH from a command prompt and find the new 10g ORACLE_HOME/bin is first in my PATH. That's fine, for now but when I want to change it I'll have to change it manually. Ok, I can do that. It's annoying but workable. But I can't expect the "normal" end user to deal with this. What's up Oracle?

    Here is a fix ... I don't think its recommended !
    1. run regedit
    2. Find ORACLE - ALL HOMES (Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE)
    There will be ID0 and ID1 etc ., (If you have previous version of Oracle).
    3. Keep your mouse on ALL HOMES -> Right click -> New -> Key
    Name it ID2 or ID3 (depends on how many Oracle Homes you have)
    4. Now you have ID2 or ID3 ready ...
    Keep your mouse on ID2 or ID3 -> Right Click -> String Value
    Enter NAME ... string your actual OraHome92 or OraHome10g
    Another String value -> Enter NLS_LANG and set the value
    another String value -> Enter PATH and set the exact path
    Go to your Oracle Home Selector ... you will find the new Oracle Home with its path !
    Thanks

  • TNS 12549 error on installing Oracle 10g on Windows XP Home?

    Hi,
    I installed Oracle 10g on Windows XP Home by clicking on Disk1\install\setup (NOT Disk1\setup as instructed since that did not work). Everything seemed to go fine except towards the end of the install I got a whole bunch of errors saying that "operating system resource quota exceeded". There were options to Ignore or Abort at most of these stages. I chose Ignore and the whole install seemed to complete but I am not able to connect to the database using sqlPlus. I looked at the log files created where I saw a whole bunch of errors in several files. For example in sqlnet log, I saw this error (among others) appeneded below. It seems obvious that some resource quotas were exceeded but I am not able to figure out exactly what quotas should be increased. Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    XP Home is not supported, despite of this some people get oracle to work.
    But in your case, possibly your machine has simply not enough resources, 12549 is a very generic error. Check the hardware requirements in the installation guide.

  • Installed 2 10g oracle homes and get ora-12557

    hi,
    I have installed 2 oracle 10g homes and now cannot connect to sqlplus as sysdba
    the error is 0ra-12557, TNS protocol adapter not loasdable.
    the installation is on windows 2003 server
    everything was fine until the second oracle home was added.
    help is appreciated
    rgds
    alan

    Typically this a PATH variable problem
    The golden rule is to install the oldest product first.
    Then make sure you path has the right ORACLE_HOME/bin 's
    In the right order.
    Remeber if you run say sqlplus from ORACLE-HOME1 it will look in
    ORACLE_HOME1/network/admin for its tnsnames files etc
    If you run sqlplus fom ORACLE_HOME2 then it will look in
    ORACLE_HOME2/network/badmin
    I always clone the network config files so they are the same in all homes.
    You have to be a little bit careful about this. FOr instance I have forms 6i wihich uses Net 8 so I can't exacly clode the tnsnames etries.
    But you get the picture.
    And generally make sure ORACLE_HOME is not set in your windows environment.
    Ths will cause problems.

  • Multiple Oracle Home support 9i and 10g

    I have 9i and 10g clients installed in separate oracle homes.
    When I switch to 9i home my application is still using 10g OLE DB.
    Is there any way that I can activate 9i OLEDB when 9i home is active and vice-versa?
    Thanks

  • Remove Oracle home 2 only

    OS: SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8
    Oracle DB: 10.1.0.2.0
    Hello All,
    I have two oracle home on single box.
    For my Database
    /opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1For HTML_DB
    /opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/ccdI'd like to remove ccd home.
    can any one tell me the secure command to remove all objects under ccd only?
    I have deinstall ccd home product from HTML_DB cd but still >/opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/ccd and its child objects are exits.
    Please note: I do not want to remove any thing from >/opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1.
    Regards,
    D

    1st Off use the Oracle runInstaller to remove the software and the home for the home you want to get rid of.
    Then (as it doesn't actually remove all teh directories and files) do an rm -rf /opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/ccd
    also you may need to check things like the following files (usually in /etc or /usr/local/bin) oratab oraenv emtab for references to the instance you have deleted - also beware any .profile or .bash_profile entries which may have now redundant Paths etc in them.

  • Two oracle home 11g and 10g

    hi all
    i have al-ready installed oracle 11g on my xp and created database then
    when i want to install oracle 10g .it installed sucessfully
    but i cannot connect to any of the oracle software
    as  i put the SAME oracle_base for both the ORACLE 11g and oracle 10g
    Can anyone help me how to have two oracle home on a single machine xp?
    Thanks
    Misin

    Hi,
    there isnt any problem.
    During instalation you set ORACLE_BASE. It could be the same for both version but you have to set diffrent ORACLE_HOME
    Samething like this
    (it's on linux but the same is on win )
    echo $ORACLE_BASE
    /opt/app/oracle
    for 10g
    echo $ORACLE_HOME
    /opt/app/oracle/product/10/db10g
    for 11g
    echo $ORACLE_HOME
    /opt/app/oracle/product/11/db11g
    Now when do you want to run 10g set 10g enviroment and for 11g ORACLE_HOME form 11g.

  • CRS install fails Oracle home incompatibility checks  ( 10G )

    Hi,
    I'm trying to install RAC for 10.2.0 . The first step is to install cluster Ready Services ( On red hat linux ) . When it does the product specific prequisite checks, it fails on "Checking for Oracle home incompatibilities".
    I get the error " Oracle clusterware cannot be installed into an existing oracle home".
    I did a previous attempt at an install which failed. I have completely deleted the
    /oracle/product/10.2.0/crs directory which was previously created.
    If I check the environment variables, I get :
    [oracle@rac1 db_1]$ env | grep -i home
    HOME=/oracle
    ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
    So, in my thinking there is no trace now of a previous home for CRS.
    So why am I getting the error ??
    Thanks
    George

    It seems taht you have not cleared the inventory..As menioned earlier use OUI to remove the oracle_home from inventory. In case you do not wish to use the existing ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 or any other Oracle Installation on this server, then you can go ahead and remove the inventory itself.
    You can use Note:239998.1 for the various files to be removed for cleaning up CRS..

  • Multiple oracle homes problem

    Hi!
    I have multiple oracle homes on my machine: Oracle9DB, DevsuiteHome_1 and now as I have just installed Oracle Discoverer 10g....BIToolsHome_1.
    The problem is ever since I installed Discoverer, nothing is working......
    Can anyone help?
    Best regards,
    Aparna

    Dear Rod,
    What I mean by nothing is working is I cannot connect to the dataases. I get 'No listener' error message.
    Oracle Hone selector gives the following message:
    The is only one Oracle Home defined on this machine and so this tool cannot be used to change your primary Oracle home.
    I tried to start the listener service, however, it says:
    Listener service started and then stopped.
    Is there any solution to this problem?
    Thanks and best regards,

  • Multiple oracle home installation

    I am going to install oracle 11g2 on hpux server. The server already has 10g on it and the plan is to run both for sometimes.
    Unfortunately, IUnfortunately, I don’t have prior experience installing multi-homed oracle software and I
    need help on how to supply the oracle home directory name to the installer:
    Do I have to supply the installation (OUI) with the oracle home directory: i.e
    Exiting oracle home: /u00/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
    For the new oracle home: /u00/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_2
    Is this correct?
    thank you,
    Lou

    What I did was create two profiles. My OS is similar, but NOT the same
    My default is Oracle 11.
    However I need a way to go back between Oracle Homes so I created an "o10g.profile" and a "o11g.profile"
    o10g.profile
    TMP=/tmp; export TMP
    TMPDIR=$TMP; export TMPDIR
    export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
    unset ORACLE_HOME
    export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0
    #export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0
    export TZ=CST6CDT
    export ORA_OCI_NO_OPTIMIZED_FETCH=1
    ORA_OCI_NO_OPTIMIZED_FETCH=1; export ORA_OCI_NO_OPTIMIZED_FETCH
    export ORACLE_SID=STANDBY
    export ORACLE_TERM=xterm
    #export TNS_ADMIN= Set if sqlnet.ora, tnsnames.ora, etc. are not in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
    export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN;
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    # Set shell search paths
    unset PATH
    PATH=/usr/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin; export PATH
    export PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin
    #CLASSPATH
    CLASSPATH=$ORACLE_HOME/JRE:$ORACLE_HOME/jlib:$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/jlib
    CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:$ORACLE_HOME/network/jlibNotice the unset ORACLE_HOME at the top, this is key. Also the unset PATH.
    Now compare it to my o11g.profile file
    TMP=/tmp; export TMP
    TMPDIR=$TMP; export TMPDIR
    export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
    unset ORACLE_HOME
    export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0
    #export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0
    export TZ=CST6CDT
    export ORA_OCI_NO_OPTIMIZED_FETCH=1
    ORA_OCI_NO_OPTIMIZED_FETCH=1; export ORA_OCI_NO_OPTIMIZED_FETCH
    export ORACLE_SID=PRIMARY
    export ORACLE_TERM=xterm
    #export TNS_ADMIN= Set if sqlnet.ora, tnsnames.ora, etc. are not in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
    export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN;
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    # Set shell search paths
    unset PATH
    PATH=/usr/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin; export PATH
    export PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin
    #CLASSPATH
    CLASSPATH=$ORACLE_HOME/JRE:$ORACLE_HOME/jlib:$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/jlib
    CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:$ORACLE_HOME/network/jlibIts probably a great idea to review the document Srini refers to. However this is a short and sweet example. In my case I can issue a
    source o10g.profileAnd be on Oracle 10. So to install the other version I created the profile for it and then then used it to switch to that ENV for the install.

  • New Oracle Home

    Hi,
    During installing Oracle Software, i got some error and aborted midway.
    Again, when i restart, the system check fails with below error.
    I don't want to choose a new home. I want to reused the same home given during the failed installation.
    I guess it is reading from the inventory. But, since i have CRS installed and have common inventory, i dont want to delete the inventory.
    How can i tackle this prolem ?
    Checking for Oracle Home incompatibilities ....
    Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
    Problem: Oracle Database 10g Release 2 can only be installed in a new Oracle Home
    Recommendation: Choose a new Oracle Home for installing this product.
    ========================================================

    I am assuming that you are pointing the new Oracle_home for Oracle10gR2 to a different location than your CRS. Try using the DEINSTALL option of the Installer to clean up the failed install and retry your install. Make sure you select the failed Oracle_home to deinstall.
    Thanks

  • Create two databases in one oracle home

    Hi All,
    I am new in oracle, using oracle standard edition 10g and some questions I want to ask.
    Is it possible to create 2 different databases under same oracle home? For example, one database for online transaction named orcl_online, one database for reporting services named orcl_report.
    If it is ok, that means 2 instance exist for each database, then how to use sqlplus to connect to orcl_online only ?
    Thanks.

    Not 2, you can create more number of databases in an Oracle Server but of course depend on the h/w configurations.
    Use dbca to create the database orcl_online and then again create orcl_online.
    If u trying to connect to particular DB through Command line, set the ORACLE_SID.
    In windows set ORACLE_SID= orcl_online then use sqlplus
    In unix/linux etc export ORACLE_SID=’ orcl_online’ then use sqlplus
    If using sqlplus GUI specify the host string which is the database name probably.
