EM12c Oracle Database Plug-In 12.1.0.7 update now shows 10g listener as down when it's not
EM 12.1.0.4 with Oracle Database Plug-in 12.1.0.7
Monitored database and listener: 10.2.0.4
Our EM12c monitors 12.1,11.2 and 10.2 databases and listeners. All monitored targets are up and running.
I updated Oracle Database Plug-in from 12.1.0.6 to 12.1.0.7 and now the only 10g listener that I have shows as down.
The listener on the server is up and running.
The monitoring configuration is right.
I removed this target and re-added it, but it came back as down.
It's a little disconcerting to have a listener show as down since it's a production box, but nothing I do corrects the problem.
Any insights or suggestions are appreciated.
Sherrie
Hi Sherrie,
In most cases we have this issue due to monitoring configuration , I know you mentioned that you have checked on it but still I would recommend to just re-confirm on below steps
1. Go to
EM Console -> Targets -> Listener -> Listener Home page -> Target Setup -> Monitoring Configuration
2. Get the details
Listener Name
Listener.ora Directory
Machine Name
Oracle Home
TCP Port Numbe
3. Go to the server where this listener is running
Check to see if the listener is up
ps -ef | grep tns
4. Next run
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl status
From this outpuy verify details in (1)
Listener Name <======= Alias
Listener.ora Directory <=== Listener Parameter File ie the directory
Machine Name <======= HOST=
Oracle Home<========== This is where tnslsnr is started from
TCP Port Number <====== PORT=
5. Makes sure that all the details matches in (4) and (2)
If above is fine then I would recommend to go through the troubleshooting steps as per below doc , they are valid for listener status down too and should give a further insight on the root cause of the issue
Troubleshooting the 'Pending' status for a Listener Target in Enterprise Manager 12c Cloud Control (Doc ID 1546576.1)

Oracle database 9.2.0.4 Critical Patch Update
Hi,
is oracle database 9.2.0.4 running on Windows still supported for critical patch updates? I went through the supported list in Critical Patch Update October 2006 but there was no reference to Oracle database 9.2.0.4. Oracle Premier Support for Oracle Database 9.2 expires in July 2007 - shouldn't this be included?
ThanksSo why aren't versions 9.2.0.1/2/3/4 included in the
Critical Patch Update?9.2.0.5 is not listed either, neither were they listed in the July 2006 CPU.
My guess is that the versions no longer fall under one of the items I listed earlier. You can file an SR with Oracle to get the exact reason. -
Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit)
First of all my windows is not genuine, but on my friend's desktop oracle download and installation worked fine, he chose "create and configure database" options, and it works very well on his desktop, though his windows is also illegitimate. In my case, when I select "Create and configure database" option and pressed 'next",
(Go to my blog to see it with snapshots: Computer Science: Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit))
it asks to select class, I select "Desktop class" and pressed "next". The moment I pressed "next", the whole setup thing disappeared like it was never started. I searched for all possible reasons for why its not getting installed on my laptop, I used registry cleaner s/w, deleted 25 GB of data to create free space if it were the problem, increased the virtual memory to increase the space for RAM, I did almost everything to get this setup working, but I found no success with the "Create and Configure database" option
and
then
I chose a "database software only" option and chose to store in a folder w/o spaces. This way, I got database s/w only and then later I found "Database configuration Assistant (DBCA)" from windows START button and clicked to create and configure database manually. The steps are pretty much interactive and doesn't involve much brainstorming.
The values I filled for
1) Global Database Name : orcl
2) System Identifier : orcl
3) I chose common password for both SYS and SYSTEM
4) while on Enterprise Manager Configuration step, It asked me to create and configure listener in oracle home, so for that too, I typed "netca" in windows START menu and clicked it. There I added a listener.
5) I chose a Storage area which was the Oracle-home itself i.e. where our installation files goes , in my case it is : C:\oracle_base\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oradata
6) Then after few more nitty-gritty clicks, we are set to go !
Finally to write SQL code and to create your first TABLE , type "sqlplus" in windows "START" menu and click it when it appears. A command-prompt like window appears , which will ask you for username and password, so here they are :
Username : sys/ as sysdba
Password : (its the one you created in step 3 stated above )
After this you are ready to write your first SQL command.Is this your solution to your original post at Oracle database 11g release 2 installation on windows 7 (64-bit) ?
Pl be aware that you should not create any custom objects in SYS or SYSTEM schema - you should create any such objects in a separate custom schema.

Connection pooling and auditing on an oracle database
Integration of a weblogic application with an oracle backend,
Connection pooling, and auditing ,2 conflicting requirements ?
Problem statement :
We are in the process of maintaining a legacy client server application where
the client is
written in PowerBuilder and the backend is using an Oracle database.
Almost all business logic is implemented in stored procedures on the database.
When working in client/server mode ,1 PowerBuilder User has a one-to-one relation
with
a connection(session) on the oracle database.
It is a requirement that the database administrator must see the real user connected
to the database
and NOT some kind of superuser, therefore in the PowerBuilder app each user connects
to the database
with his own username.(Each user is configured on the database via a seperate
powerbuilder security app).
For the PowerBuilder app all is fine and this app can maintain conversional state(setting
and
reading of global variables in oracle packages).
The management is pushing for web-based application where we will be using bea
weblogic appserver(J2EE based).
We have build an business app which is web-based and accessing the same oracle
backend app as
the PowerBuilder app is doing.
The first version of this web-based app is using a custom build connector(based
on JCA standard and
derived from a template provided by the weblogic integration installation).
This custom build connector is essentially a combination of a custom realm in
weblogic terms
and a degraded connection pool , where each web session(browser) has a one-to-one
relation
with the back end database.
The reason that this custom connector is combining the security functionality
and the pooling
functionality , is because each user must be authenticated against the oracle
database(security requirement)
and NOT against a LDAP server, and we are using a statefull backend(oracle packages)
which would make it
difficult to reuse connections.
A problem that surfaced while doing heavy loadtesting with the custom connector,
is that sometimes connections are closed and new ones made in the midst of a transaction.
If you imagine a scenario where a session bean creates a business entity ,and
the session bean
calls 1 entity bean for the header and 1 entity bean for the detail, then the
header and detail
must be created in the same transaction AND with the same connection(there is
a parent-child relationship
between header and detail enforced on the back end database via Primary and Foreing
Keys).
We have not yet found why weblogic is closing the connection!
A second problem that we are experincing with the custom connector, is the use
of CMP(container managed persistence)
within entity beans.
The J2EE developers state that the use of CMP decreases the develoment time and
thus also maintenance costs.
We have not yet found a way to integrate a custom connector with the CMP persistence
scheme !
In order to solve our loadtesting and CMP persistence problems i was asked to
come up with a solution
which should not use a custom connector,but use standard connection pools from
weblogic.
To resolve the authentication problem on weblogic i could make a custom realm
which connects to the
backend database with the username and password, and if the connection is ok ,
i could consider this
user as authenticated in weblogic.
That still leaves me with the problem of auditing and pooling.
If i were to use a standard connection pool,then all transaction made in the oracle
database
would be done by a pool user or super user, a solution which will be rejected
by our local security officer,
because you can not see which real user made a transaction in the database.
I could still use the connection pool and in the application , advise the application
developers
to set an oracle package variable with the real user, then on arrival of the request
in the database,
the logic could use this package variable to set the transaction user.
There are still problems with this approach :
- The administrator of the database can still not see who is connected , he will
only see the superuser connection.
- This scheme can not be used when you want to use CMP persistence , since it
is weblogic who will generate the code
to access the database.
I thought i had a solution when oracle provided us with a connection pool known
as OracleOCIConnectionPool
where there is a connection made by a superuser, but where sessions are multiplexed
over this physical pipe with the real user.
I can not seem to properly integrate this OCI connectionpool into weblogic.
When using this pool , and we are coming into a bean (session or entity bean)
weblogic is wrapping
this pool with it's own internal Datasource and giving me back a connection of
the superuser, but not one for the real user,
thus setting me with my back to the wall again.
I would appreciate if anyone had experienced the same problem to share a possible
solution with us
in order to satisfy all requirements(security,auditing,CMP).
Many Thanks

[email protected]Hi Blyau,
As Joe has already provided some technical advice,
I'll try to say something on engineering process level.
While migrating an application from one technology to
other, like client-server to n-tier in you case, customers and
stakeholders want to push into the new system as many old
requirements as possible. This approach is AKA "we must
have ALL of the features of the old system". Mostly it happens
because they don't know what they want. Ad little understanding
of abilities of the new technology, and you will get a requirement
like the one you have in you hands.
I think "DBA must see real user" is one of those. For this
type of requirements it can make sense to try to drop it,
or to understand its nature and suggest alternatives. In this
particular case it can be a system that logs user names,
login and logout times.
Blind copying of old features into an incompatible new architecture
may endanger the whole project and can result in its failure.
Hope this helps.

Is it possible to migrate WebCenter Portal data from a SQL database to an Oracle database?
We have our WebCenter Portal applications set up using a SQL database. Now we're wanting to migrate to an Oracle database and I'm wondering if that is possible.
Yes it should be possible though i have not tried it myself. You basically export a file from mds ( xml) and import it into oracle db.
Thanks

This will be my second time trying to install Oracle Database 11g Release 2 on my Computer. I have Windows 7 x64 and when go through the setup phase, I receive numerous errors stating that files are missing and it will never get past that stage. I downloaded both folders for the database:
Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64)
win64_11gR2_database_1of2.zip (1,213,501,989 bytes) (cksum - 3906682109)
win64_11gR2_database_2of2.zip (1,007,988,954 bytes) (cksum - 1232608515)
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?Pl post the complete error message. Have you unzipped the two files into the same directory ?

How to create an XML Oracle database schema
Hello, I would like to generate an XML file that contains the schema of my Oracle database so that I can reference one file for column names and table names. I do not need any data from the tables, just the basic layout: e.g. table names, their respective column names.
Obviously, I would like the ability to generate this file each time we make changes to our DB, so its generation will be an ongoing process.
My question is, what is the best tool for this? Or the most widely accepted? Can anyone help with this?To get database metadata as XML use Oracle Web RowSet.
//Import the oracle.jdbc.rowset package classes.
import oracle.jdbc.rowset.*;
//Import the RowSetMetaDataImpl class.
import javax.sql.rowset.RowSetMetaDataImpl;
//Create a OracleWebRowSet class.
OracleWebRowSet webRowSet=new OracleWebRowSet();
/*Set the datasource name to obtain a JDBC connection with the database. The datasource name is configured in the data-sources.xml file. */
webRowSet.setDataSourceName("jdbc/OracleDataSource");
//Set the SQL query command for the OracleWebRowSet class object.
webRowSet.setCommand(selectQuery);
selectQuery is a SQL command variable which is input from a JSP.
//Set the username and password to obtain a JDBC connection.
webRowSet.setUsername("OE");
webRowSet.setPassword("<password>");
//Set the read only, fetch size and max rows attributes of the OracleWebRowSet object.
webRowSet.setReadOnly(false);
webRowSet.setFetchSize(5);
webRowSet.setMaxRows(3);
//Run the SQL command specified in the setCommand() method.
webRowSet.execute();
/*A Web RowSet gets created consisting of the data retrieved from the database table with the SQL query. Generate an XML document from the WebRowSet.*/
OutputStreamWriter output=new OutputStreamWriter( new
FileOutputStream(new File("c:/output/output.xml")));
webRowSet.writeXml(output); -
Oracle database for Fedora Core 7 (x86_64)
I want to install Oracle database on Fedora core 7(x86_64). I tried with 10201_database_linux_x86_64.cpio.gz setup but it does not support Fedora core 7 platform. Please suggest me where to find the proper setup.
Thanks in advanceThis trick, from a previous thread worked for me for Redhat 5. You might wanna use it for Fedora;
Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini
Add the name of your distribution on this line. It might work for you

CORBA: Using IOR with Aurora Visibroker in Oracle Database
My problem is about Oracle CORBA session oriented:
I would like to store an IOR in an Oracle Database in order to use it
when I need the object associated but,
If I have the IOR of an object instantiated from a class placed in the
Name Service Context of an Oracle Database, this IOR is valid out of
its session if the session has finished (if this is not the case, can I have
an infinity session)? In order to use this object
must I always authenticate by user and password before or can I use
the object directly after call stringtoIOR?

Help me please--CORBA: Using IOR with Aurora Visibroker in Oracle Database
My problem is about Oracle CORBA session oriented:
I would like to store an IOR in an Oracle Database in order to use it
when I need the object associated but,
If I have the IOR of an object instantiated from a class placed in the
Name Service Context of an Oracle Database, this IOR is valid out of
its session if the session has finished (if this is not the case, can I have
an infinity session)? In order to use this object
must I always authenticate by user and password before or can I use
the object directly after call stringtoIOR?
I am using CORBA implementation (Aurora) of Oracle 8i.
Thank you very much and excuse my English.Even If create table manually in the Oracle Database using varchar2 but still when i copy the data query mysql database it shows spaces in the value column.

Default port of Oracle 9i Database --- Oracle database installation
Hi,
I am new to oracle..searched across internet to know this particular detail of Oracle 9i database installation.
My query being..Can Oracle database be installed in a way to use port's other than 1521. When do we go for making use of a port other than 1521. What are the risk's and benifit's.
How to make use of a port other than 1521 while making use of OUI(oracle universal installer) to install a 9i database on windows OS.
Can someone provide an answer to my queries/ some link where I can find the answer.
Thanks,
R Syou have to change the port no in listener.ora file which exists on Oracle_home/network/admin/listener.ora like
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Griat-xp.bebo.tech.com)(PORT = 1521))
)from this to
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Griat-xp.bebo.tech.com)(PORT = 1522))
)afterwords you have to reload the listener by using lsnrctl on command prompt
in this way you can change the default port of Oracle

How to connect Oracle database into Visual basic 6.0
Hi. I am using Oracle I Enterprise version 9.2.0.1, I have a problem for connecting oracle database into VB. I use a ODBC to connect oracle database with VB. By testing connection. Message tells me that "connection successfully", but I can not have a record display in VB. It tells me that can not publish a connection with ODBC. Please tell me why
Are you using the Oracle ODBC driver? If so, which version?
Are you writing your own VB application? What API are you using-- ADO? Can you post the code that's making a connection and the exact text of the error message?
