Emac 1.25 video board is gone

The video board in my emac has gone out.
I have a PC monitor with the typical vga end on it.
Is their and adapter-vga to ? that would connect into
the emac so that I can see and transfer what I can to my x-harddrive?
Thanks.
Kevin

This is the correct adaptor:
Apple Store: Mini VGA-to-VGA adaptor
BUT....
if the video board is out, the external video-out port won't work. The external port would be useful if the display itself died but the boards feeding it were working.
At this point your best option is to use another Mac (one borrowed will work) to connect to your eMac via a FireWire (IEEE 1394) cable. You can boot the eMac into FireWire Target Disk Mode and see its hard drive on the other Mac as if it were a mounted external drive. Makes it easy to get your files off.
Lacking that, you'll have to remove the hard drive from the eMac case and connect it to another computer using an adapter like this to make the drive a "caseless" external drive:

I think the logic/video board is bad in my 2006 iMac. Anyone know where I can find a replacement? It's a "vintage" computer, so the board is not available through Apple.

  • Can I use a late '06 24" iMac with a bad video board as a monitor?

I have a late '06, 24", 2.16ghz iMac with a video board that works unless it is over-tasked and heats up.  Then the screen glitches and finally the computer freezes up or crashes.  Is it possible to use it as a monitor for a mac mini or other computer?

  • I have a IMAC 24" WITH VIDEO BOARD PROBLEM.

YEAR 2007 WEEK 12th. S/N CK******VGP. Apple told me that this model is VINTAGE so i can't find a new VIDEO BOARD. Is it true? where can i buy it? Thanks a lot. Gio

The video hardware in iMacs are special components made only for integration into iMacs.  So there were never generic parts that you can buy "off-the-shelf" that you can install yourself.
If Apple can no longer do the repair, you may want to contact a third-party Apple authorized repair business.  This web site (or a Google search) may show locations near you

  • Crazy Distorted iMac display - Is it the video board?

This iMac just came to me so i don't if there were any symtoms leading up to its failure. It will only boot from CD and when it does the display completely distorted and pinched... take a look:
    http://homepage.mac.com/mikeneuhaus/PhotoAlbum6.html
I'm guessing the video board is shot but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

The fact that it won't boot from the hard drive, but only from the CD, sort of indicates that the hard drive is dead. I say "sort of" because you'd have to test it to be sure. Those pictures seem to indicate an issue with the "firing" patterns of the monitor, "the yoke", as David Jenson mentioned. RGB (red, green, blue).
It's too dangerous to play around with the yoke adjustments in these CRT iMacs to be worth the risk. But if you decide to do so, be sure to use a CRT discharge tool first. However, with a dead hard drive, as well as a messed up CRT monitor, I'd consider that iMac to be best used for spare parts, unless you have another one that you can get spare parts from to repair this one.

  • Photostream Issue - I have had several phones over the years all backing up via iCloud/Photostream. It seems that the oldest of my photos and videos are simply gone and I cannot seem to figure out how to get access to them. Why is this happening?

Photostream Issue - I have had several phones over the years all backing up via iCloud/Photostream. It seems that the oldest of my photos and videos are simply gone and I cannot seem to figure out how to get access to them. Why is this happening? Is there anything I can do to get them back? I'm freaked out by the thought that I am paying for what I thought was a safe place for my photos to be stored and accessed later but now see that there are nearly 500 pictures/videos gone from my photostream folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. - Michael

    Hi newmarket,
Photo Stream is not a respository for archiving photos. It is a cloud storage device that will store the last month or last 1000 photos taken by any device on the same Apple ID, and then will "share" those photos with all other devices that have Photo Stream turned on,and that are logged onto the same Apple ID.
iCloud backups will contain all of the photos that were on your camera roll the last time you backed up your device.
If you have photos outside of the Photo Stream parameters, and they are not all on your current camera roll, then you have no way to retrieve them unless you have imported them to the computer you sync with or have uploaded them to some other cloud service like DropBox.

  • Installing Solaris 8 with a NVIDIA RIVA TNT MODEL 64 video board

I'm trying to find out if anybody knows of any compatible drivers for the NVIDIA RIVA TNT MODEL 64 video board for Solaris 8.
I can install Solaris using 640 x 480 with 16 colours, and that works without any problem, but the installation does not seem to have any compatible drivers.
I've tried contacting NVIDIA but have not received any reply.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Mark,
It appears as if this particular chipset is supported as suggested
    in the Hardware Compatibility List.
The -- in the bus field indicates that this chipset is used on different video devices whether they be motherboard integrated
video cards or dedictaed video cards. (Check the notes at the top
of the video display adapter listings).
The note also explains that there is no guarantee that the same
chipset will work with all video devices; only a selceted number
of devices with this chipset have been tested.
I just located a report where this particular chipset caused exactly the same problem. The TNT2 was integrated into a Microstar 694D motherboard. A full investigation was not carried out as the customer in this case closed the call having used a different card.
As far as I know, the NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 chipset has successfully been
tested on the Diamond Viper V770 and Creative Labs 3D Blaster RIVA TNT2.
Upon bootup what is the BIOS level of the card as reported? Another
engineer has managed to test a card with TNT2 BIOS 2.05.04, 32MB.
I think that webstart problems were avoided by installing directly from the SOftware CD's 1of 2 and 2 of 2 in non graphics mode (opting not to specify video at the kdmconfig screens)

  • Video boards for PS and LR

I am looking to buy a new computer for Photography using LR and PS and was hoping that someone has used one of the following video boards and could confirm that they will work and allow GPU processing--The Adobe website says that the older boards work and that the new boards "should" work, but I was hoping that someone could confirm this for me. I also was hoping to get a source for a review between the following boards in Photography to understand which is better.

  • Unknown video board - can I tell what I have? [SOLVED]

I have a laptop with an unknown video board.  The sticker on the machine simply says, "nvidia quadro."  The nvidia-173xx package doesn't seem to work; when I enter X my screen goes block and keyboard/mouse lock up.  Is there something akin to 'cat /proc/cpu' for a GPU?
    Thanks!

  • Help with video board install

    Here is my problem:
I bought a used video board (GeForce 7800 GT) to put in my G5 dual core 2ghz) Mac. But when I installed the board I get no monitor. I've made sure the power cord is plugged in and watched it spin up... but no monitor.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I purchased the board on Ebay from someone that took it out of a PC. Could this be the problem? Or do I need to download some type of driver?
PLEASE HELP! The board I'm using does not run Aperture very good at all!
    Tim

PC videocards do not generally work in macs. If you are technically inclined, you may be able to flash the card with the strangedogs files. If you are not so inclined, you may wish to sell the card and purchase a mac-dedicated card instead. (Unfortunately there are few if any third-party mac-compatible cards for your generation of machine currently.)

  • Video Thumbnail images gone - iPad 1st gen, iOS5

After updgrading my iPad 1st gen to iOS5, all of my video thumbnail images are gone.
The iPad just displays a white box with a gray flat screen TV icon for every video file listed under Movies or TV Shows
This is most troublesome when I touch the TV Shows button and I get a page full of those white boxes with the TV icon - and, as has always been the case, there is no name for the TV show. So I'm lost in the white boxes trying to find LOST the TV show.
Any thoughts on how I get my thumbnails back?

If they are in your iTunes library on your computer why don't you try syncing again. Make sure that all of the shows are selected to sync along with the sync Movies heading and then sync again.
If they are only on the iPad it might be a good idea to transfer the purchases into the iTunes library. Connect the iPad to the computer, launch iTunes and right click on the device name and select Transfer Purchases.
If you have tried syncing, try restarting, resetting and quitting the videos app.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
To quit the videos app - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • When iPhoto '11 crashes after importing photos and videos, they are gone. How can I retrieve them?

iPhoto '11 randomly crashes after importing/editing/organizing photos and videos. When it does, photos and videos that I've been working on are gone. Pictures taken with iOS devices can be retrieved if they are still in Photo Stream, but videos are gone. Is there anyway I can retrieve photos and pictures that are not saved before iPhoto crashes? Also, is there anyway to prevent it from crashing? It seems iPhoto '11 is doing this since the day 1 I started using it. Thank you.

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library
this should help with the crashes - it may or may not help with the missing videos

  • Video option is gone.

Hi I have a iphone 5s. When I go into my camera the option of video and slow motion is gone. I tried resetting it yesterday and I did come back up but I noticed today it's gone again. I reset it again and now it's not showing up. Can this be fixed??? is there another way this can stay on the phone permanently?

    And the answer is?
Like most other problems, do the basic troubleshooting steps described in the User Guide:
    Restart phone
    Reset phone
Restore in iTunes using a backup
Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup
If restoring as new doesn't help, there is a hardware failure that needs warranty service from Apple.
If your phone has EVER been jailbroken, all bets are off...

  • Pidgin voice and video chat menus gone!?

I opened pidgin today to find that all the options to start a video chat / voice chat are gone. And the plugin which configures microphone and webcam is also not in the list of plugins.
    It is pretty wierd.
I'm using gnome 3.6 with arch linux x86_64 and Pidgin 2.10.6 (libpurple 2.10.6)
.  How can I fix this?

tomk wrote:When was it working last? And what did you do to your system since then?
Just regular system upgrading thats it. I don't remember exactly when these menus are gone. I noticed it today.
I downgraded to pidgin-2.10.6-1 from -2 and now I can see the the plugin. Still doesn't work but it shows this error below it.
    Error: undefined symbol: gst_property_probe_get_type
Check the plugin website for an update.
