Emac 1.42 ghz external display mirroring will it solve dark display problems ?

I have an emac 1.42 ghz and the display is getting dark I have the contrast turned all the way up and the contrast turned up one notch in the universal access. When the computer is shutdown sometimes when it starts back up it is very dark almost unusable until it warms up or is running for about 20 minutes. Then it is normal. If I use an external monitor on the mini vga port with an apple adapter will it have the same darkness/display problems. I really like this computer but if the external display wont fix the problem I will need to wipe the drive while I still have a useable display

I'd say it's likely to help using a different monitor.
I think you could possibly check by doing a Screen Capture, which I believe gets it frm the graphic card, then view that capture on aniher computer, or post it here for us to view.

  • Adobe 10 - will it solve V8 optimisation problems

Hi. I currently have Adobe ACROBAT Pro V8. I've always been able to make and optimise pdfs from Word docs and Powerpoint presentations. Then in December last year, I stopped being able to optimise pdfs that had been made from Powerpoint presentations. I now have a bunch of pdfs that need optimising and uploading to our website. I got an IT consultant in and he couldn't optimise them either. He suggested that buying Version 10 would probably solve this problem as - as we discovered on one of the Adobe forums, 'Version 8 has issues with pdfs made from Powerpoint presentations'. His argument being that version 10 probably would have corrected these issues. I tried to download the trial of version 10, but couldn't. I called Adobe support, but hey no longer offer phone support for version 8, and couldn't - or wouldn't answer my questions as a result. I checked the knowledge database, and it gave me nothing on optimisation in either version 8 or version 10.
Incidentally, since then, my version 8 has stopped working altogether - can't open documents with it now.
All I need is a simple answer to the question of whether version 10 has solved the issues that versio 8 had with pdfs made from Powerpoint presentations.
    Thanks.

All I can say is, "Maybe."
In another thread, someone complained about Optimization problems with PowerPoint in Acrobat 9.x. I'm running Acrobat X and have no problems. But I also don't have access to the same PowerPoint files either.

  • If I upgrade to Leopard will that solve my app problems?

Most of my apps won't open. I tried creating new preferences, safe start and a host of other things, thanks to Dale's suggestions. Even though I've changed everything (my dock is now the default) Microsoft Office, Quark, Quicken, etc., won't start. The only thing that's working is Adobe CS3. Reloading all my apps is difficult to impossible.
I didn't want to upgrade to Leopard because I've heard so many bad things but do I have a choice? (I have a free copy from Apple.)
    Any suggestions?

His other post is here: Major apps won't open. I agree he shouldn't upgrade until the problem is sorted.

  • Will the first gen ipad support display mirroring via airplay when IOS5 is released?

From what I have read, IOS5 will support display mirroring on the ipad 2.. Is this likely to be added to the first gen ipad ? If so then great, but if not, why not? Im sure if you can wirelessly stream music and movies to an Apple TV device (connected via wifi) from the ipad one, then surely you must be able to use display mirroring ?

In case you didn't click on the link above that is on the Apple site:
    AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2
Wow your audience in the board room, classroom, or living room. AirPlay now supports video mirroring. Which means you can wirelessly — and securely — stream whatever’s on your iPad 2 to your HDTV via Apple TV. Everyone in the room sees exactly what’s on your iPad display up there on the big screen — even when you rotate iPad from portrait to landscape or zoom in and out on photos.2
So unless you were told be Steve Jobs that the iPad 1 will also do AirPlay Mirroring it really doesn't matter what you have been told, you are posting at best speculation but more likely misinformation.
And no, don't have anything better to do.

  • I have new 2T iomega external HD (Mac Companion) - my Mac (2.8 GHz i7 - Lion OS) will not recognize HD if hooked up with Firewire, but it does recognize if hooked up via USB - how can I get it to recognize with Firewire?

I have new 2T iomega external HD (Mac Companion) - my Mac (2.8 GHz i7 - Lion OS) will not recognize HD if hooked up with Firewire, but it does recognize if hooked up via USB - how can I get it to recognize with Firewire?

Try a different FW800 cable and also try doing a SMC reset. If neither work try another FW800 device to see if it's recognized, if it is then  you know it's not the Mac it's probably the EHD.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Dark displays, now both internal and external

I've occationally had problems with the display on my 17" MacBook Pro 2008 (Model A1261): sometimes the screen would not turn on. It started the first year I had it, but at the Apple store (when I got a bad key fixed) the repair man just said "Yeah, I've that problem sometimes too" like it was nothing to bother about :[
When I'd had the MBP for 2 years the problem became worse. Sometimes only my added display would light up, behaving as if it were my main display. But clicking on Detect displays would bring up MBP's display as well.
But now I can't get any display on at all, neither internal nor external :[ :[ :[
I've tried restarting several times. No response in either display.
What can I do?? I've had the MBP for 2 and a half year now.
Reset PRAM doesn't work - there's no regular upstart sound, but I can hear the hard disk running and the little white light in the front is on.
And if I need to do a complete reinstall, is there any reasonable way to save the files? (Hard to see what I'm doing when the screen is black...)

The only thing you have to do is to click the 'Reset' button in Preferences>Advanced>General.
Your 'iTunes Music folder location' will be reset to the default location on the internal disk.
All new imported music will be stored there.
New added music will be stored there if you have the checked 'copy files to iTunes Music folder location when adding to library' in Preferences>Advanced>General.
When your new Mac arrives and you want to transfer the library, first copy the entire 'iTunes' folder (in ./Users/YourUsername/Music) from your eMac to the exact same location on the new Mac.
To transfer the iTunes folder, you can burn it on CD or DVD, but a lot easier is to put the eMac in Firewire target mode.
This article tells you how to do that:
How to use FireWire target disk mode
After the transfer of the iTunes folder is completed, connect your external drive and run iTunes.
The new Mac will have a newer iTunes version and it will take some time to convert the old library format to the new format.
Once all works OK and If you want all your music on your new Mac, use the 'Consolidate Library...' command from the Advanced menu in the menubar.
All music from the external disk will be copied to the internal disk.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mac OS X 10.7.4 ARD Issues When Observing/Controlling Computers with Display Mirroring/Different Resolutions

As if Macs in an enterprise environment could be more difficult to manage, now since our upgrade to OS X 10.7.(4) I have lost the ability to remotely control numerous Macs in our organization. The issue occurs when attempting to control a Mac running OS X 10.7.(4) that has their Display mirrored and the resolution does not match on both displays. What happens is that I can see the remote screen however it does not fill the entire Observe/Control window. Instead, the remote screen takes up about 50% of the window, the rest is black but sometimes will display a mirror image of the remote screen in the black area. What?! Yeah, I've attached a screenshot because this is ridiculous. The real problem is that I cannot control the computer when it has reached this state, the mouse no longer functions properly, it is not clicking where I place the mouse, etc. I have made sure that I have all updates including ARD Client/Server updates. I even tried VNC but as I have come to find out that is a whole other issue (doesn't work, sends me to the login screen, etc).
    So here's what I need:
    - A patch that is going to fix this issue
    - A script to run that is going to change the remote screen resolution (I still have the ability to run remote scripts, etc. simply not Observe/Control)
    Ideas?
    <Image Edited by Host>

I found a way to work around this issue.  Not a fix but a work around.
This is little application some one wrote to toggle mirroring on and off.
    Mirror Displays
If you put this application in the client computer's /Aplications folder
you can use ARD or SSH to run the app and switch modes.
The problem only occurs for me when a client is set to mirror dissimilar displays with different aspect ratios.
I am only seeing this in Lion 10.7.4 and 10.7.5
    Hope it helps someone....

  • IMac won't offer display mirroring option when connecting to HDTV with Thunderbolt to HDMI cable

I have an iMac, and am trying to connect to my HDTV to use as a second display (mirror). I am using a cable with a Thunderbolt connector at one end, and an HDMI on the other. I know the cable works because I have used it with my MacBook on other TVs. When I use this on my MacBook, I simply open displays, and between the tabs marked "Display" and "Color" there is always an "Arrangement" tab to select. When I try this same setup on my iMac, the only two tabs I can see are "Display" and "Color" - the option to mirror disdplay (or recognize the HDTV in any way) simply doesn't exist.
I would welcome any help. Thanks much, Doug.

OK, yes your Mid 2011 has a Thunderbolt port.
Reset > the System Management Controller
    1. Shut down the computer.

    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
and the > NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.

  • Display mirroring and resolution

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up my macbook for presentations using an apple vga adaptor. When I plug into an external monitor, everything behaves as I expect until I switch ON mirroring. When I do this the macbook screen becomes square (even though the resolution is set to 1280 x 800), with large black edges.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi stu19,
taken from the Video Developer Note found here: http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWTechVideo/Articles/Video_implementation.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40003994-SW741200331181
    *External Display Modes*
The computer supports two external display modes: video mirroring and extended desktop. The default is extended desktop mode. To toggle between the two modes, use the Displays pane in System Preferences.
    *Extended Desktop Mode*
In extended desktop mode, the resolution of the two displays can be set independently. In this mode, the maximum external display resolution supported by the MacBook is 2048 x 1536 at 60 Hz for analog displays and 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz for digital displays.
    *Video Mirroring Mode*
In mirroring mode, a single resolution is used for both displays. The highest resolution possible is the native resolution of the internal display (1280 x 800). If the external display can support a higher resolution than the internal display, that higher resolution is unused in mirroring mode.
*If the external display cannot support the full resolution of the internal display, the lower resolution is used for both displays.* A suitable resolution for both displays should be chosen in the Displays pane of System Preferences.
    *Scaling and Black Borders*
In either extended desktop or video mirroring mode, choosing a lower resolution than a display supports results in scaling up the image, if possible. Depending on the supported resolutions, aspect ratios, and refresh rates of the two displays, the scaled image may not fill the screen of one display, in which case the image on that display has black borders. This black border typically occurs when the resolution chosen has a different aspect ratio than the display. It does not occur on CRT displays.
    Hope it helps

  • Will new Macbook Air display browser in 1080x1920 on HDTV?

I am about to buy a Macbook Air. A primary use for this will be to 1) Mirror browser content to an Apple TV or 2) Use Apple TV as an extended display. I understand the extended display feature may come in Maverick.
I have a MacBook Pro that will not screen mirror. It was 11 months old and Apple said the hardway would not support it. They almost lost my future business with that. AirParrot does not work on it either.
When I use an iPad III the screen ratio on the HDTV connected to AppleTV is 4:3 ratio when displaying an app or browser content. For some apps like netflix, the iPad goes full screen.
So, for those of you using the new Macbook Air, can you tell me if it will mirror a browser session to Apple TV connected HDTV and will it be in a 16:9 (1080x1920) format?
I really want it to act like an extended desktop so I could be displaying a browser based TV show on the TV and use the screen on the airbook to do other stuff. Does anyone know if that will be possible on the MBA or is that functionality reserved for better hardware?
Is anyone having issues with the mew MBA that seem to be common place?
Finally, I am getting the 13" model, 256GB but wonder about upgrading to the i7 processor. Its not a primary machine, no high CPU video editing but lots of screen mirroring of HD content. I do have a new Airport Extreme that can use 802.11 AC.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Umm...
Every laptop has 6bit colors. There aren't any 8bit laptop panels that Apple could use infact. Except for some very new 17" ones...
The thing is, 8 bit panels use more power and are regarded by most of the industry as overkill for laptops.
Anyway I repeat, there are no 13" 8bit panels in existence.
You want 8 bit color? Plug in a CinemaHD or a Dell VA or IPS panel.

  • How can I have two displays mirrored (4 total) on the mid-2013 mac pro?

    Hello.
I have the mid-2013 Mac Pro (last model with PCIe slots). I would like to use 4 monitors; two in the regular extended desktop configuration, with two more that simply mirror the first two. I am sure I need some kind of splitter, or do I need another graphics card?

I am sure I need some kind of splitter
Another alternative is to get enough ports on display cards and use the Mirroring feature in Mac OS X. Any display can be mirrored with any other display by dragging the icon for a display onto the Icon for one you wish to mirror. The resolutions will be reset to one that can accommodate both displays.
This works without adding ANY overhead if the two displays being mirrored are on the SAME display card.

  • I WANT TO BUY A MAC BOOK PRO. MUST I WAIT FOR THE ONE WITH RETINA DISPLAY. WILL THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO CD ROAM BE A PROBLEM. CAN YOU USE A EXSTERNAL CD ROAM ON A MAC?

I WANT TO BUY A MAC BOOK PRO. MUST I WAIT FOR THE ONE WITH RETINA DISPLAY. WILL THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO CD ROAM BE A PROBLEM? CAN YOU USE AN EXSTERNAL CD ROAM WITH A MAC?

Apple will gladly sell you a color coordinated and texture matching external SuperDrive to go with your Retina'ized MBP for about $80 bucks.
Note that those models are completely sealed with no serviceable or upgradeable parts inside. So if you decide to bite the bullet, be sure to customize its guts to your heart's content from the get-go as no further change will be possible. This means CPU speed, amount of RAM and size of the solid state drive. Other external options, like the Superdrive, can be added later.

  • After Leopard install, geForce4 MX card will not run two displays

My two 17" Apple Cinema Displays were working perfectly until I upgraded my Power Mac G4 dual 867 MDD with a geForce4 MX graphic card to Leopard. My second display is now black. The display power light is on, the monitor is recognized in the display settings, the brightness is turned up to max and the display is black. I switched monitor cables and the problem followed. I called Apple and was told to try a hard reset, which did not work, and was then told to try nVidia.com for updated drivers. nVidia says this board was made for the MAC and is therefore is supported by Apple. I have been searching for a Supported Hardware List for Leopard hoping to see if my nVidia card is supported. Has anyone seen this problem or have any ideas.

Did you guys try turning on the "mirror displays" option? It's possible your second display was set to an unsupported resolution. In the displays system prefs pane there is a box titled "mirror displays", so each display shows the same picture. If the second display is set to an unsupported resolution, this will fix it by matching its resolution to the first monitor. From there you can turn off mirroring and have your extended desktop.

  • Toggle Display Mirroring On/Off - alternate methods?

Does anyone know if there is a standalone application or script that will simply toggle Display Mirroring on or off?
Due to a custom setup I'm using, I can't access the menubar or System Preferences to do this.
I found a terminal utility that sort of does this but it leaves Terminal open after completing the task. I don't know how to tell it to close Terminal when done. Anyone know how to do this or how to integrate in to an Applescript that will do this?
Here is the link to the software I'm using: http://eruvia.org/software/osxmirroring/
    Thank you!
    Brent

Let me restate what I think you are saying and asking, just so I am sure I understand; you are using a projector along with the MBP's built-in display so that both are running at the same time, correct? Is this part important to you, meaning do you care that both displays are running or would you be happy to have just the projector running and the MBP's lid closed and screen not running? If that would be OK with you, e.g. just the projector running, then that may be the easiest thing to do to get content displayed on the projector at 1080p full screen.
If you do care that both screens are running, does it matter to you which is the primary screen, e.g. the screen with the menu bar along the top? Because you could set the projector to be the primary screen by moving the menu bar (under the Displays preferences Arrangement tab) and I believe that would also work to have your content show on the projector at 1080p in most cases.
Let me know if any of that makes sense because maybe I am completely misunderstanding the issue.
