EMac 700 fan CFM?

I'm planning on replacing the case fan in my eMac 700.
I've searched this forum and googled everywhere for information on how much air the stock fan pushes, what its CFM is.
Does anyone know and if so, would you tell me, please?
Many thanks.

Actually, because it has a relatively low 2800 rpm rotational speed for a unit its size, it only pushes 2.2 cubic feet per minute.
But matching it is impossible. While the basic fan is an NMB Technologies 4710KL-04W unit, it is housed in a custom shroud. The fan blades and motor are integrated into this housing, and cannot be removed without destroying it. The entire fan and shroud assembly, with gaskets, is easily removable from the remainder of the AC inlet and filter frame.
This is not an off-the-shelf item, and the fan and AC inlet assembly for the nVidia graphics driven eMac product line is no longer available from Apple. When it was, users would likely have paid about $ 59.00 for it. Expensive for a fan alone, but in line with the cost of similar assemblies. The later 922-5866 assembly for ATI graphics driven models, which is reasonably similar but not interchangeable, is still available.
If you are interested in a drop in replacement for your original fan alone, write to me at the address listed in my Public Profile.

  • Screen spanning emac 700 MHz

    Hello all,
I presume this is a quite stupid question, but here goes; is it possible to do screen spanning with a 700 MHz eMac? I've got a Iiyama Vision Mater Pro 455 here - and I'd like to span the screen instead of mirror it completely. That way I can edit much more easily with FCP.
Is there any way to do this through software? (I tried Screen Spanning Doctor, but they've excluded the 700 MHz) Or do I need to upgrade the hardware - if so, what hardware?
    Thanks a bunch everybody!
    eMac 700 MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    it doesn't work with a 700 MHz.
So I guess if it isn't possible I need to upgrade the hardware. Is this possible?
Sorry, I missed that you'd already tried it; apologies. But if Screen Spanning Doctor doesn't work, you may be out of luck. It's not possible to upgrade the video chip in your eMac, and I don't think a later-model eMac logic board would fit in your eMac's case, though I can't say for sure. Even if it is possible, it's probably not going to be cost-effective. Logic boards for 1GHz eMacs are going for over $300.00 US on the sites I've found that carry them, and you could probably buy an entire 1Ghz eMac for not much more, particularly if you sell yours and apply the proceed toward the purchase of the later-model unit.

  • Upgrading Emac 700

Hi guys i wanted to upgrade my Emac 700 motherboard, processor etc. Can it be done and where? I live in the UK. Thanks. Lee

The main logic board (including the processor) cannot be upgraded. The hard drive, RAM, and certain other things can, but it's not easy, nor cheap, nor even fun.
I'd strongly urge you to consdier a newer Mac. A refurbished Mac Mini is about the cheapest route, if budget is an issue.

  • EMac 700 freezes randomly

    Hey,
I've got an eMac 700 and it freezes 4x to 100x times a day.
I've try everything pram reset reset in open firmware, but nothing helps.
As far as I can see it only happens when my eMac gets hot or when it try to start MacOSX, because when I let my eMac a half day runnig on a bleu screen what I get when I start with the option key pushed to select the operating system, it works my mouse is working well but when he starts and comes to the white screen with the Apple logo to start up it freezes or it freezzes 2 or 3 minutes later minutes later when i'm working on my Mac.
    What can cause this problem?
    Is it software is hardware?
    Thnx a lot

I've got this eMac with macosx 10.2 jaguar and it runs 10.3 panther it doesnt start even the instalation disc from 10.2 jaguar otherwise I would run a little while jaguar.

Also, a few minutes before, my eMac had a random shut down while watching a YouTube video. The fan vent is not clogged up, and the cabinent that it in has a hole in the back. Is it makeing too much heat?
PS: I know my name is in the upper right corner, but I hid the login screen for the sake of other people's privacy. And the lines on the screen, its because the eMac's refresh rate is 60Hz while the camera is 30Hz. They are not there in real life.

    Hi there:
The computer may have a fan which could finally be showing signs
of wear from use over several years. Is the computer left on 24/7?
A computer put to sleep at night won't make a sound, and the parts
won't wear out as fast; and they use less electricity, etc.
A good computer tech (Apple certified) should be able to tell you if
the cost would be excessive - and that may be subjective, as some
are unwilling to work on an older machine if they can sell you newer.
Also, a home user should not attempt to fix these unless they are
able to understand technical service documents and then look for
some ideas online; since the original service manuals are pro-only.
(Note: the inside of an eMac has a CRT display, these store a lot
of Electrical Energy and can be hazardous to open up or mess with.)
If the fan is failing, which it could be, someone skilled could probably
open the unit and get the correct part; while they are inside, the other
items in there should be checked over, including the hard disk drive,
which could be a noise maker in itself, since these do wear out and
can get loud. In fact, a tech should look it over and give you a good
estimate of what the problems are and their cost for parts & labor.
    Since the computer is older, the hard disk drive could be making noise;
the fan could be too. The computer could be dusty inside and need a
good cleaning, to run cooler. And an old hard disk drive could be running
a bit hot, so the fan may have to run faster as a result.
    {This add-on topic should have probably been in a new thread of its own;
but since you added it here, I noticed when I went through the list of
items I'd posted to, and saw it had a recent additional post. If you do
have a bunch of other issues, a new thread would be advised, and
    maybe link back to this one in there, if you like.}
Hopefully these ideas help resolve the issue; and the computer could
be put to sleep at night, to make it quieter. The longer term solution
could be a good cleaning, a new fan assembly, and/or a new hard disk
drive installed. While a tech is in there, a new clock battery, maybe?
An estimate is advised before the work is started, and also a limit on
what you may be willing to spend should be arrived at before having
to pay for stuff that may have been better spent on a recent Apple
certified refurbished iMac 20" instead, or a newer MacBook reman from
the Apple Store's special deals page.
There are online sources for repaired and tested good eMacs with a
limited warranty or guarantee they'd work for a time; sometimes I
    see some offered by real people and not the auction gamble sites;
once in awhile I look, but shipping to AK is way too high for eMacs.
For a good place for older repaired computers and service on portable
Macs, (they get desktop models) see wegenermedia.com.
Hopefully this helps in the process of having a good healthy computer.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Networking Tigerized eMac 700 MHz and PM 7200 OS7.6.1 - need help!

    Hello,
I've looked on the boards and hit up Google but to no avail so I thought I'd try to ask in this forum for the help I need in sorting out my problem.
I have an eMac 700MHz, and am trying to connect my old (but functioning) PowerMac 7200. I want to back up a few bits of data and then format the HDD and reinstall an OS on it before selling/tossing it.
I tried to do this using an Ethernet cable. On the eMac in the Network view, I'd get a greyed out image of the PM, but it tells me that I can't get anywhere as there is an incompatibility in Apple Talk versions being used.
The PowerMac is old and only has 16MB of RAM. I'm not keen to buy a copy of OS8+ just to transfer less than a CD-R's worth of old mail and docs. Would that it had USB, I'd plug in a thumb drive or my iPod Shuffle.
The HDD is also pretty full - maybe 40MB of the 500MB is free. I tried to use a CD-R in the drive that I'd burnt on the eMac, but the PM wouldn't recognize it saying that the thing was unreadable. Have standards changed that much?
What's frustrating about this is I bought it second-hand from an Apple shop in '99, but they didn't give me any OS discs. Back then I was a tad more naive about computers and such. Now I wonder how they got away with it, and if any of the software I might have otherwise received could have helped me.
Any assistance that can be provided - any at all! - would be most welcome. I'm trying to tidy up the house here since a cohabiting family member has become unwell, and it'd free up space I could use for other things.
    Thanks in advance,
    Hoopy

No need to change the name of the OS 9 System Folder since the folder order list doesn't matter. It sounds as if you need to re-bless the OS 9 System Folder, per the instructions under No "blessed" Mac OS 9 System Folder in Classic doesn't start, Mac OS 9 not installed or recognized.
You may also find OS X: How to Perform Mac OS 9 Clean Install useful. Some posters have noted problems with natively booting OS 9 after upgrading to Tiger, although I had no problems a while back when I booted my office Quicksilver G4 in OS 9 to try to get HP all-in-one drivers installed for use in Classic.
Cavet: when the 700 MHz eMac shipped, it was formatted to be a dual boot machine. If at any time since then you reformatted the hard drive using the OS X Install disc, there's a gotcha: OS X does not by default include the OS 9 boot driver. That has to explicitly enabled. If the OS 9 drivers are missing, I'm not aware of any way to reinstall the OS 9 drivers without having to reformat the hard drive, although someone in the OS 9 or Classic forums may be better able to help.

  • EMac cooling fan?

Not long ago, my eMac began making a "rattling" noise. It didn't seem to affect the performance, but I knew it wasn't good. Anyway, just recently, the rattling stopped completely. Things seem to be getting quite hot inside there as well--after ripping a CD into iTunes, for example, that disc comes out of there hot as heck! Anyway, I never hear the fan running any more. This eMac is over 4 years old. Is replacing the fan wise, or should I look into a new Mac?

    Hello David,
I guess it depends on the budget and the requirements, there, of a computer. Taking one of these machines apart is a pretty easy job. It take care, knowledge and time though. Google the phrase...
    Emac take apart guide
    For more information.
As an aside, I recently upgraded from an iMac G4 1.25 to an Intel iMac 2.4 - The difference is quite staggering! The money spent on repairs could, maybe, be better spent on a new machine?

  • Upgraded eMac, now fan won't work

    Hello,
I just upgraded my son's eMac - put in 1GB RAM, Pioneer DVD-R drive and 320 GB hard drive.
All the upgrades work just fine (and he is very happy), but now the fan won't work. I've checked and double-checked the connections - there were two connections that I've unplugged and plugged in three times. The fan can spin if I flick it, so it is not impeded in any way.
    Any ideas?
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Yes, the fan was operating fine because it was so loud you couldn't miss it.
I appreciate Roam's comments, but my electrical engineering background is spotty. I understand that it is either the fan or the connection to the fan, but I have not the tools nor the knowledge to connect a battery to see if the connection is good.
What I can't figure out is what went wrong. There are only two connections coming from the fan unit, and one is actually the power supply that goes to the electrical plug (which is part of the fan unit). That one is obviously working fine because the computer powers up. The other one is this simple looking small snap-in connector that seems like a total no-brainer to attach. It's not something that could even easily get bent or anything.
I'm obviously missing something important, or the fan picked a really weird time to stop working.
For now he's shutting the computer down when it feels hot. I'm sure that's not a good solution.

  • Any way to add USB 2 to eMac 700 combo?

iPod died and have been offered a 5G one as replacement but relies on USB 2 - I only have Firewire. Any ideas? I plan to upgrade to new Mac in the Autumn but in no position to do so yet so upgrading eMac would be perferable - if possible...

    Can't be done.
I would just try to stick it out with USB1 until next fall if I were you. Yes, compared to firewire, it is painfully slow but it depends on how much data you really want to transfer at any given time. My daughter for example has her music on an old beige G3 with USB1.1 only and she synchronizes her iPod mini without problems. Yes, it does take as much as a couple of minutes PER SONG to update but how often do you really transfer hundreds of songs in one shot? If you do, set it up over night.

  • Selling my eMac 700

Hi. I have a eMac (specs at bottom) in very good condition. It has a few problems cosmetically, but it's an excellent machine. If I erase the drive, reinstall the OS (Mac OS X 10.4), and don't go through the setup process, how much do you think I could sell it for. I'm not sure how much is too much or too less.
    Keep in mind that...
It has a 40GB hard drive
         2GB RAM
         700mhz G4 processor
         Airport Express
         Fresh install of Tiger
         Pro Keyboard
         eMac Swivel Stand
    All responses are appreciated!!!

Why don't you open an Apple Store in Columbia?  We sure as heck could use one.

  • EMac G4 700 speakers working intermittently

Today the speakers on my eMac 700 are working fine, but for most of this week, an hour or two after awaking from sleep overnight, they produced no sound. The iSub worked fine and I could get full sound through headphones. Naturally, I'm delighted to have sound again—I've been running iTunes at strength for the past five and half hours—but I'd like to know what the problem was; I anticipate that it will occur again.

    Hello Keith,
    Welcome To Apple Discussions!
If passable I would take it into a Apple repair shop and have them have a look at this problem you are having.

  • EMac screen flickers, shrinks and shuts down

Purchased eMac 8/02 for ease of use bec I have zero tech ability, yet after reading suggestions from this discussion board, I have:
    1. replaced the PRAM battery
    2. reset PRAM & NVRAM
    3. forced 3 maintainence tasks via terminal and utilities
    4. removed power supply from surge protectors in case damaged by spring storm and plugged it directly into outlet
    5. power cord appears just fine and is tight
    6. ran Hardware Test CD and received messages that NO problems were detected. Logic Board is OK (oh please be true)
    7. Safe Booted ino Safe Mode without USB printer and scanner. Now I'm stuck, bec sometimes this works. Been up and running for about five hours and no problems (yet). Yesterday I Safe Booted and it just shut down, once after a while, another time before I even got to log in.
Been working on this problem for days and have lost track of what happens each time and which messages I have read and tried.
Have I missed something? Thank you in advance for any further suggestions beside "putting her down" .. I keep having glimmers of hope when it works as it is doing right now.
    eMac 700 MHz G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   256MB

    Janet in NC,
The severe flickering and shrinking could possiblly be a description of the raster shift problem that troubled early nVidia graphics model eMacs such as the 700 MHz model (if the shrinking is he bottom 1/3 of the display rolling up and the top of the display with the menu bar going off the top of the screen), for which replacement of the IVAD cable is the fix (contacting Apple Customer Relations can usually get reimbursement for that repair cost). Unfortunately, the power cutting off isn't one of the raster shift symptoms; your description is consistinet with a power supply problem. Hopefully the problem will prove to be with the main power supply, which is relatively straightforward to replace, and not the analog/CRT assembly power supply.
When your Mac shuts down, is it a total shutdown (power LED and fans off) or is it the display only that goes dark? If the latter, before taking the eMac in for a repair estimate, if you have access to another Firewire-equipped Mac you can try using FireWire target disk mode to backup your Users folders.
Hopefully you won't need this tip, but if it doesn't make economic sense to repair the eMac (compare the repair estimate to the cost of a Mac Mini and any 17-inch LCD monitor), but if necessary you can ask the repair shop to pull the hard drive for you when they open the eMac chassis. You can then put the hard drive in an external Firewire chassis for around US$30 - $50 or so, and at least recover your user data and get a backup hard drive from it.
p.s. While surge protectors can be damaged in a storm --- most low-end consumer surge outlet are essentially one-shot devices at best --- plugging a computer directly into the wall outlet should be done only as a short-term test of the surge outlet itself.

  • Mac sound, LED lights, fan spins, then nothing... screen stays dead.

My eMac just 'died'. Any ideas?
Pressing the power button gives me:
    - the start-up sound
    - the fan starts
    - the LED on the front lights up
but that's it! NOTHING else will happen.
    There is:
    - No optical USB mouse lights
    - No keyboard reactions like eject button
    - No Cmd-Option-P-R reboots
    - No booting from CD with C or Shift
    - Nothing else!
    I've also tried:
    - Replacing the battery (which WAS dead)
    - resetting the PMU
    - reseating the ram sticks
    Other notes:
    - holding power button down WILL force power off
    - holding power button down while booting will provide firmware loading beep

    Hi JMVP,
    Thanks for the response!
I've left the eMac unplugged and completely stripped of peripherals (including the keyboard) for weeks, and when powering it up again, it's still acting the same.
I am, however, going to do exactly as you instructed, since there's nothing to lose by doing it. I'll keep you posted.

  • Using Video Adapter with eMac

I've searched all over and cannot find any information on this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would like to send video from my eMac to my TV. I purchased the Apple Video Adapter and an RCA cable. I have the adapter plugged into the computer, and the cable plugged into the adapter and the TV. I restarted the computer. The TV (on its video setting) shows static with the adapter plugged in; if I take it out, it goes black, so clearly some signal is passing through. However, I cannot figure out how to get the eMac to recognize the new "display".
The discussions on the subject mention using a "detect display" fuction. I don't see anything called "detect display" in the display preferences. I do have it set to show the displays in the menu bar, and the drop-down menu only shows the eMac and its resolutions. The preferences, also, only gives me the info for the eMac.
Am I missing something? Is there a setting I need to change? Should I assume the adapter is defective (I gather this has happened to others)?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    eMac 700 MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I don't think the problem is at the TV's end, as it's clearly getting some sort of signal on the video setting I'm using (there's static when it's connected to the computer, and nothing when it's not). The problem is that the computer doesn't see that it's connected to another display.
Something I realized, comparing computers (we also have a Mini)--the Mini's display preferences window has a "detect displays" button that the eMac's doesn't. They're both running 10.4.3. Any ideas (anyone?) why the eMac's missing it?
    Thanks again!
