Emac ati verson slow video

i have an emac ati 32mb version running tiger 10.4.9 with all the updates. when i go to cnet.com or espn.com and i play video it is very choppy. When i do it on my pc it is very fast. i am using safari on the mac. I tried to find the latest ati radeon 7500 drivers for the mac thinking that might help but nothing. Please i need help with this. BTW i have 768MB of pc133 ram. Please let me know if anyone needs more info. Is it a codecs problem or should i just use another browser. My screen resoulution is 1280 x 960. Thanks in advance.

Hi
If you control click (or right click if you have a two button or mighty mouse) on one of the videos at espn or cnet you should see a small drop down menu:
It should include 'Settings' (not much use as far as I can see... not for viewing video anyway). And you should see "About FlashPlayer 9".
Installling Flash Player 9/Shockwave 10 may help. That said I have just played the Mohammed Ali video from espn on a MacBook and a 32mb iMac (with 1gb RAM). This is on a Lan connection with a maximum of 1.5mbs. The video was smooth on the MacBook and a little little choppy on the eMac.
Download the latest Flash and Shockwave plug ins from adobe.com and see if these improves your video playback. If you do not have Flip 4 Mac installed, ytou could try this too(http://www.flip4mac.com/), though I am sure that espn and cnet both use FlashPlayer files.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Slow video playback after upgrading to ati 9200 card

Just upgraded my graphics card to the PCI ATI 9200 but now I have slower video playback than I had with the OEM Geforce AGP card. Does anyone know why this has happened? I thought I was gonna get better playback by upgrading

    Hi,
Well, you have me scratching my head, that's a real puzzle.
Try an Open Firmware re-set, do the 're-set all' procedure:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42642
BTW, ATI (and OWC) has just released this info on their 9600 video card, meaning it's not so good for G4's:
    Knowledge Base
ATI Customer Care > Product Information > Specifications, Features, Comparisons >
737-21888: Radeon 9600 PRO PC & MAC Edition list of supported system configurations
The information in this article applies to the following configurations:
    Radeon® 9600 PRO PC & MAC Edition
    "Quicksilver" Power Mac G4 model
"Quicksilver 2002" Power Mac G4 model
"Digital Audio" Power Mac G4 model
The Radeon 9600 Mac & PC Edition is not compatible with the "Quicksilver", "Quicksilver 2002" or the "Digital Audio" PowerMac G4. If a Radeon 9600 Mac & PC Edition board is installed in one of these systems the result is a blank display.
For assistance in differentiating Power Mac G4 models, please refer to Apple Article 58418.

  • Slow video playback after reinstalling Geforce2 MX  card

Ok, reinstalled (took out the 9200 card) my Geforce2Mx card and now everything is in super slow motion - video, scrolling, typing, opening and closing of apps, pull down menus, loading of web pages - everything. It's like being back on an old SE30 and now even that seems fast to what is happening now. What did I do wrong? Tried rebooting a few times and resetting pram with no better results.

Press the button near the battery on your logic board, it will reset the PMU, which might help.

Tried that also with no results. Also repaired permissions. What could have happened to the machine to do that?
    G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Installed the modified Radeon ATI 9600 Pro for G5 Edition card and I still have the same slow video playback results. However when I boot up from another internal hard drive I do not have the video problems. Everything works just fine. Both of my hard drives had no video problems before screwing around with the ATI cards and now the one still has the problems with the video playback. This one also has Classic on it and Classic also runs slow. BTW I don't know if this has anything to do with it but when I ran a search result for "ATI" no files are installed on that 2nd hard drive which is playing video and loading pages with no problems. Would trashing all those ATI files on the slow drive do anything to help? Or is this just a coincidence?

  • ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro dvi hdmi cable

I am sending video signal over a 50FT HDMI To DVI from my Mac Pro (3,1) via ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro (5.0 GT/s) (181062917108) and I cannot get a constant signal to my TV. The signal stays on for a few seconds or several hours or my TV (Samsung) says there is no signal or I get just a gray static screen.
I never had a problem before with my previous video card the 512MB nVidia GeForce 8800GT with a 25ft long cable. Any ideas people?

A cable of about 5 meters (16 ft) can be manufactured to Category 1 specifications easily and inexpensively by using 28 AWG (0.081 mm²) conductors.[114] With better quality construction and materials, including 24 AWG (0.205 mm²) conductors, an HDMI cable can reach lengths of up to 15 meters (49 ft).[114]
    from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
You may need a higher-quality cable or a lower resolution for your display to make this work without an HDMI Repeater.

  • Is there a known conflict between a CalDigit FASTA-GU3 sata/USB 3 card and an ATI Radeon X1900XT video card?

    Hello all.
I am having trouble with my Mac Pro (circa 2008) not powering up the monitor (an Apple HD Cinema Display 23 inch).
    Here's some history.
For about two weeks I was having trouble waking up the monitor from sleep. I would have to reboot the computer to see the screen.
Then the screen wouldn't wake up after many reboots. I tried the Apple Cinema Display on my MacBook Pro laptop an on an older Mac Mini. The display didn’t' work on any of them.
I then hooked up a Samsung monitor to all three computers in turn. The Samsung worked fine with each.
From that I deduced that it was Apple HD Cinema Display that was at fault.
I replaced it with one I bought from a friend - in perfect working condition.
The new Apple Display worked fine with my Mac Pro.
Problem solved - or so I thought.
Now, a few days later, I am having a repeat of the same problem. The Apple Cinema Display won't wake up.
I removed all the peripheral devices, still no joy.
I removed and reseated the video card (after blasting all with compressed air).
    Still no joy.
I then removed the CalDigit FASTA-GU3 sata/USB 3 card I installed about a year ago.
Now the Apple Display came back to life.
So my question is, are there know conflicts between a CalDigit FASTA-GU3 and an ATI Radeon X1900XT video card?
If so - is there a fix?
    Also open to other theories.
    Other tech specs:
Mac Pro (from around 2008) 2 x 3 GHZ Quad Intel Xeon.
    OSX Lion
The video card is an ATI Radeon X1900XT (512 MB)
Apple HD Cinema Display - 23 inch
    Many thanks.

Thanks for the info on the Expansion Slot Utility. I found it and ran it. It shows no problems. It shows the ATI Radeon X1900XT to be properly installed and running at full capacity.
I found a reliable dealer of flashed ATI Radeon 5770 cards. A couple of trusted friends have had good luck with cards from the dealer.
So I will have that on stand-by for when/if the existing card fails completely.
    Thanks everyone for your input.

  • Slow video buffering since installing maverick

I have had slow video buffering since installing Maverick, any suggestions?

I have had this issue before as well
My system was also occasionally completely unresponsive after the Mavericks upgrade. (It's been through 4, now)
So, I backed up all my files with time machine and performed a clean install and all my issues were compltely resolved. Including the slow buffering. Although doing this was a tedious, long, and aggravaiting process, my issues were resolved. Good luck, or whatever, if you are still having this problem as this (even though not an ideal one) is a solution.

  • Re: Slow Video Loading

I have expirienced the same problem with my laptop and would like further help with steps i could take to fix the problem. The model number for my notebook is E1X69UA. The operating system is Microsoft Windows 8.1 though i am unaware if it is 32 or 64 bit.

    Hi @DJ44369 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15-e049ca Notebook and issues with slow video loading. Here is a document on improving your system.
Have you tried to disable your virus protection to see if this helps?
Make sure all of your updates have been completed for Windows 8.1.
You could also try resetting your router to see if this helps.
FYI your system is 64 bit.
Please let me know how this  goes.
    Thanks.

  • BIOS AGP setings for MSI6712 (KT4V-L) using ATI Radeon 9600XT video card ?

Because I am having graphic issues with Battlefield-2 since the new patch, I want to know what should be the BIOS AGP setings to go accordingly with my ATI Radeon 9600XT video card ?
I have all or part of the following BIOS AGP setings below. I picked this up on the net but I don't recall all the values I have as I am at the office right now.
    **AGP timing Control**
    AGP Mode: 8x  <== that's what I remember having
AGP Fast Write: Enabled  <== that's what I remember having
AGP Aperture Size: 256 MB  <== that's what I changed it to yesterday
    AGP Master 1 W/S Write: Enabled  <== that's what I remember having
    AGP Master 1 W/S Read: Disabled <== that's what I think I have
AGP Read Synchronization: Disabled <== don't remember what I have
PCI Delay Transaction: Enabled <== don't remember if I have it

I still don't think this is mobo thing. Please use the Internet. There are lots of people having problems with the patch you mention.
One thing I come across is that you should install something called Special Forces b e f o r e  you install the patch.
This is in your favourite language Swedish  , it took me too long to find in English, but maybe you can find some search criteria for your own Internet search:

Adding: When searching for software or hard ware solutions to a problem, just add "problem" in the Search-for-box".

  • ATI driver issues and slow video playback

I just reinstalled Arch and I installed the ATI drivers, at first I couldn't get them working but when I did, video in full screen was amazingly slow, so I tried installing ati-drivers-arch, as someone in the boards suggested but after that each time I start X, it would crash my computer, so right now I am using the standard vesa driver to even start X.
Also when trying to resize mplayer (while using -vo gl) it says my computer is too slow. And VLC has no speed issues but the quality of the picture is very poor.
    I am running:
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    ATI Radeon X800 GTO
    1.5 gb of DDR RAM

It doesn't look like xorg 7 has been installed.  The latest kernel 2.6.15 needs xorg 7, udev, and initrd .
I may be wrong but my xorg is much smaller in size and fonts are handled differently in the latest kernels.
Please see the blogs concerning the upgrades to the xorg 7 changes.

  • Playing video on eMac is very slow.

Hi I have an eMac 700mhz with 640mb of SD Ram running Mac OS X 10.3.9 and video is very slow but weirdly videos on YouTube play fine and are not choppy or slow at all.
I have the latest version of flash that will run on this OS : Adobe Flash Player 9.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks

Follow Dale's advice first to run Repair Disk; if there are any disk directory issues, other fixes will just be wasting time until the underlying directory problems are fixed.
Other things to consider: how much free space is there on the hard drive? Unix-based operating systems, which includes OS X, require disk space for scratch and swap files; burning optical discs requires enough space for creation of a temporary file as large as the physical disc being burned; and other programs may have their own cache requirements. If free space on the boot hard drive runs below 1 GB, the computer will begin to behave poorly can can potentially end up unable to boot. Deleting unused data and files (old .dmg images used to install old programs are a prime candidate for deleting) will help. If space is really tight, get an external Firewire hard drive and move user data there:

If you normally shut down an OS X Mac overnight or leave it in system sleep, the cron maintenance tasks cannot run in their nominal 3 am timeframe. (Display-only sleep allows the maintenance tasks to run). Tiger 10.4.2 and later will (nominally) force the maintenance tasks to run after sufficient time has elapsed, although the timing on that is subject to dispute. You can leave the Mac in display-only sleep a weekend or two a month; you can manually Force Background Maintenance; or you can use a third-party utility such as OnyX to run the maintenance. Note that any system utility you use must be compatible with the OS version (e.g., use the Tiger version of OnyX with 10.4.x).

It's possible that CNET are using bigger (in terms of their quality) movies compared to the very small YouTube files.
When you watch the movies, are they downloading in time to play properly? (Most online movie viewers show a progress bar that lets yousee how much of the file has been downloaded... and the movie starts playing almost immediately... so - is it trying to play, when it hasn't downloaded the file yet)
You could try click the Pause/Play button (to pause), and wait til it finishes downloading, Then click Play and see if that helps...
Other than that... how much hard drive space is free on your computer?
Do you have a DVD drive? Can you watch normal DVDs?

  • EMac G4 1.42 Video Cards

    Hi everyone.
I have an eMac G4 1.42 Ghz and I was wondering if its possible to upgrade the video card, lets say to a 128 Video card. I was thinking on something like the Ati Radeon 9800 Pro Mac, but as far as I see (the picture) it doesn´t seem compatible with eMacs. Any support will be appreciated.

    Hi, Daniel—
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I don't know the answer to your query, but here are a few references that you may find useful:

  • Emac running poorly slow ------------

Hi, does anybody know something about this?
    I have a preowned Emac 1.0 Ghz (640 Ram / 60 Gb hdd).
It´s running at a fraction of the real procesor speed in every situation (startup, normal operation, safe mode, CD boot, open finder, etc.). I´d tried almost anything from PRAM reset, open finder, ram swap, etc. Nothing changes.
It feels like running at 133 mhz.
No video problems, peripherials issues, ...
    Everything fine, but extremely slow.
    Could be a caps issue?
Will appreciate any help on this.

If following Don's advice to Force Background Maintenance and other routine system maintenance to which he referred, and Gulliver's User Tip made no difference, a few thigs come to mind:
-- how much free space is there on the hard drive?
-- try disabling Dashboard (or at least close all but one or two widgets using the Dashboard Manager)
-- try disabling Spotlight's indexing (by editing /etc/hostconfig)
-- Start Up in Safe Mode; if the computer feels normally responsive then, check (update or remove) third-party kernel extensions (look in Library/PreferencePanes and /Library/StartupItems)
-- Open Applications> Utilities> Activity Monitor, select View All Processes, and sort the list by %CPU. Close all other open applications; is there anything in Activity Monitor (other than Activity Monitor itself) consistiently taking up more than say 10% of the CPU cycles?
-- Have you opened Applications> Utilities> Console, select 'Show Log List' from the View menu, and examined the logs, especially the console, system, and CrashReporter logs? there may be some clue there; look for crash reports or anything that seems to be updating hundreds of times per second.

  • AMD/ATi with xf86-video-ati is glitching (random frame hang)

I've asked #archlinux about this multiple times to no avail. Also, I can't find anything on the Wiki about an issue like this.
Basically my computer hangs for around a 8th-4th second or so about every 20-40 seconds. The hang is visual only (i think), meaning no audio glitches or network glitches (that I'm aware of). I have a OpenGL test writing out frame rate, and during the hang the FPS consistently drops from 61 to 51. No CPU spikes are visible in the System Monitor, so my guess is that it's video driver related.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I have an overclocked ATi graphics card (specs below) so I'm thinking that's probably related to the issue. Any help is very welcome.
    ~ system specs ~
    DE: Gnome Shell 3.2.2.1
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 920
    GPU: AMD Radeon HD 4870 (O.C.) 512Mb
    RAM: 8Gb Kingston
ps. I've tried many different combinations of Cool'n'Quite + cpufrequtils with no luck. ACPID 2.0 is disabled in the bios.
[EDIT] also, I would get the Catalyst drivers if they worked with Xorg 1.12, but I'd rather have Gnome Shell than Catalyst drivers ATM.

Yes I am. I've tried taking it out but to no avail.
