Emac does not recognise airport extreme card.

I bought my emac less than a year ago and its running on the newest version of Mac osX. I also have a PC with broadband and a wireless router which is emitting. I was told that i needed to get an airport extreme card to let my mac use this internet aswell. I have bought the card and i installed the software on the disc and i then fitted the disc into my mac and i have checked to see that it is in firmly and so is the aerial. This said when i turn my emac on it does not search for available networks like it supposedly should and when i go into system profiler it says no information available for the airport card. I am not convinced that the disc actually installed anything onto my mac however since i cannot find any files that i would have thought would have come from the disc. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.
Emac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

P.O.R.G, Welcome to the discussion area!
There is no need to install the software from the disc. OS X contains all of the software needed to support the AirPort Extreme card.
The early eMac's require the original AirPort card instead of the AirPort Extreme card.
If you are using the correct card and the card is not recognized in System Profiler, there are only 3 possibilities:
The card is not installed properly.
The card is defective.
The eMac's motherboard is defective in the area interacting with the AirPort Extreme card

  • Airport Utility does not see Airport Extreme Base Station

Purchased Airport Extreme yesterday at Apple Store to replace old Netgear Router. Wanted wireless network to work with 2 identical HP Laptops running XP with SP3 and 2 iPod touches, and possible future purchases of iPad 2 and Apple TV. Installed Airport Utility software from CD on Dell Studio running Windows 7. Connected Airport Extreme to cable modem and Dell Studio. Ran Airport Utility software to configure Base Station but it did not recognize the Base Station. Base Station had blinking amber light. Did have internet connectivity on Dell Studio, and wireless internet connectivity on 2 iPod touches, and on one HP Laptop. No wireless internet on other HP Laptop. But wireless internet connection was unsecured and Airport Utility did not see Airport Extreme so could not configure it to make it secure. Contacted Apple Customer support. After 30-40 minutes of attempting several different possible fixes only able to use Airport Utility to configure Airport Extreme remotely, wirelessly, from one HP Laptop, not the Dell Studio that is directly connected to the base station. Now that the base station is configured the network is secure. However, second HP Laptop cannot connect to primary wireless network. I created password protected "Guest" network using Airport Utility, and laptop is able to connect to this Guest network. From reviewing forums am now able to configure Airport Extreme with Airport Utility by using "Configure other" on Dell computer. But utility cannot find device by scanning. Would like to find way to (1) have Airport Utility on Windows 7 Dell see Airport Extreme by scanning and not using "configure other," and (2) have 2nd HP Laptop connect to primary network and not "guest' network. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bob - Thanks so much for your quick reply. I followed your suggestions and, to go into perhaps unnecessary detail, I'll write what I did. I completely disconnected the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) from my computer. I disabled Windows Firewall, uninstalled my anti-virus program, and uninstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, recycled by cable modem (took out the battery and unplugged it for about 20 seconds), then restarted my computer. After the computer booted up, I verified that windows firewall was disabled, reinstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, then reconnected the cable connecting the AEBS to the computer (to one of the three ethernet ports, and I tried each of them in case one was faulty) but not to the cable modem as my firewall was disabled and had no anti-virus software. I also reconnected the AEBS power chord. I opened the newly reinstalled Airport Utility software and it did not find the base station. Only when I used "configure other" was I able to access the AEBS. I recycled the modem again, but that did not help. I turned on the firewall, installed anti-virus software, connected the AEBS to the modem, the light turned green, and I was able to access the internet on the primary computer and the wireless network gave me internet access on my laptops. But I was still not able to have my main computer, the one directly connected to the AEBS able to see it, and configure it, without utilizing "configure other."
Also, any idea why one of my laptops can only access the "guest" network? When it attempts to connect to the primary network it will stay on "acquiring network address" for what seems a few minutes, then switch to the "guest" network and connect immediately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Computer does not see Airport Extreme

First let me say that I am a total "newbie" to Macintosh computers and the whole networking thing....so excuse my lack of knowledge. Here goes my problem:
I have a brand new iMac and a 2 year old PC. I want to have them both access the internet, not nessecarily at the same time. I bought the new airport extreme. I would like my PC to be wired in and the iMac to be used upstairs wireless. When I hooked up the Airport to the PC and installed the CD that came with it, the airport utility could not find it. The light on the front continued to flash amber. I also could not connect to my DSL when it was all hooked up. I am using a speedstream 4200 modem. I think I have everything connected correctly...phone line to modem, modem to WAN port on the airport, airport to computer. Did I connect the wrong things or is it an issue with my PC? I am very frustrated. I have not tried the airport on the Mac because I would like it to be wireless. Do i need a wireless card on the PC also?

Use the iMac to configure the Airport Extreme and ensure that it is working and that the iMac can access the internet.
This guide written for the older base station will also work with the new AEBS.

Note that the PC does NOT need the Airport software on it to be connected to the AEBS.

  • Macbook does not see airport extreme base station

    Hi
I set up my airport extreme several years ago.  I recently noticed that, under "security," the guest network says "WPA2 secured," but the main network says "none."  Is this a problem; i.e., does the main network lack security?  Further, when I open the airport utility, it cannot find a base station.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you!

  • AirPort Setup Assistant does not find AirPort Extreme

    Hello,
I am trying to stream music to my home stereo. My setup is exactly like the one displayed on page 17 of http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AirPortExpress_Setup_Guidev4.2.pdf
AirPort Setup Assistant shows my AirPort Extreme, but not the AirPort Express. I did hard-reset the AirPort Express several times, but the light stays amber and the Setup Assistant does not discover the AirPort Express.
Until I changed the configuration (prior I had an AirPort Express only), I was able to use a shared network with a PC, so I don't believe the AirPort Express is defective.
Is there anything else I can do?
    Thanks,
    Fidelio

    P.S.
I was able to solve my problem. It turned out that the AirPort Express software was outdated. So I connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AirPort Extreme. Then used the AirPortExpressFWUpdater.dmg to upload the latest software. Finally I followed the instructions posted by Tesserax at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5342301#5342301 and it worked.

  • IMac does not see Airport Extreme Base Station wirelessly

Trying to use my existing PC hooked up to Airport Extreme BS via ethernet cable, which works fine. I then open Airport Utility on my iMac and it scans for wireless devices but it can't see the AEBS (located beside it). Opening Base Station tab and there are no solid headers to click on, just the soft grey headers. I am fairly new to Apple product so if I've left any info out to further troubleshoot please let me know.
Eventually I would like to connect my Apple TV, located downstairs, wirelessly as well as use an Airport Express (wirelessly) to boost the signal if need be due to concrete walls and floors in construction of house.
I have OS X Version 10.5.8 (up to date), Intel, Airport Extreme Wireless Card.
Thanks for any help out there.

  • New Macbook does not recognise Airport Express

    Hello -
My new Macbook doesn't seem to see my Airport express despite rebooting and resetting the Airport Extreme and Express hardware.
Can anyone advise me what might be going wrong please?
    Many thanks..

Thank you. I have finally got Airport Utility to recognise the Airport Express.
In the next step (when i select the Airport Express station) it asks me if i want to switch wireless networks and issues the following warning:
Setting up this Apple wireless device requires switching wireless networks. Switching wireless networks may interrupt your connection to the Internet.
What do I do? I still want Airport Extreme to work. I just want Express to work with it.
I'd be very grateful if you could offer any advice.
    Thanks...

  • Airport Utility 6.3.1 does not recognize Airport Extreme 7.6.4

Running OS 10.8.5. Message "This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Go to AirPort Service...for more info" pops up. My wireless internet networks are fine but I am trying to network a printer and a few other mobile devices and I need to use the AirPort Utility.  Anyone have an answer for me?  I believe I am running on the latest for what is necessary and am not sure why this is happening.

I have the 5th generation airport extreme model.

  • Windows 7 Does Not Recognize Airport Extreme Base Station

I have a Macbook Pro, a Windows XP PC, an Airport Extreme and an HP Printer hooked up via USB to the Airport. My XP system and My Macbook work fine. I have Windows 7 installed via bootcamp on the MacBok. It connects to the wireless network perfectly on the Windows 7 side but when I run the Airport Utility it is "unable to find any apple wireless devices." I want to set up the Windows 7 side to print and need to discover this network printer but since it won't even recognize the Airport device, I don't know how to proceed. Anyone know how to solve this problem? I have uninstalled and reinstalled software to no avail.
    Thanks,
    Thad

I have the exact same issue with a new airport extreme. One additional bit of info for me is that the windows computer does see the wireless network and is able to get online. It just doesn't find the airport in the airport utility app. Also, according to the guidebook I am supposed to install "Bonjour" on Windows computers. Can't find any reference to Bonjour on the installation disc that came with the Airport Extreme.

  • IPhone does not see airport extreme routers

So I did the ios 6 upgrade on my iPhone 4S and immediately lost my home Wi-Fi Airport Extreme routers (yes, both of them). My network works fine on all other devices not rnning ios 6 (other iPhones, iMac, Macbooks...).  The problem is every time I try to log into my home network, it tells me that my password is invalid.  Furthermore, the Airport Utility App says there are no airport base stations.  The same utility sees both on all other devices.
    So far I have followed all the steps listed in the multitude of forums and responses;
    - Rebooted dozens of times (both the routers and the iPhone).
    - Reset & restored my iPhone.
    - Reverified my password on all other devices.
    - Turned ust about everything on and off (network, Wi-Fi, location, cellular...etc.)
Still no glory with ios 6.

    Fixed it.
The key was to reset and reinstall both Airport Extreme routers....not just cycle power, but actually grab a thumbtack and depress the reset buttons on the back of the routers.
After setting up the network again, my iPhone 4S (ios 6.0) works just fine...and the Airport Utility sees both routers again.

  • Toshiba satellite 2450-s203 does not recognise atheros wlan card

    Hi!
I have a toshiba satellite 2450-s203 and there is an embedded atheros wlan card -somewhere in the laptop-.
However, I am running win xp pro and the device manager DOES NOT FIND THE CARD!
It finds the ethernet card and a 1394 net adapter!
    But not the WLAN card!!
Any ideas?! I have downloaded the wireless card's drivers from the site but with no luck!
    What should I do?!
    thanks!

    Hi,
The W-lan card is optional to this model eg. it's not included in all machines. You need to purchase the correct module to get W-lan to work.
If the card would be installed in the machine, You should see either a yellow esclamation mark (!) or "unknown device" if You have uninstalled hw.

  • AirPort Utility does not see AirPort Extreme Base in G5 but see it in PB G4

Moreover I cannot lease an IP from AirPort Extreme Base with my G5, I must use manual IP set in order to connect. Every things works fine with the PB G4 which had an import setting from the G5 before the trouble began.

Sorry I had so many change in Hardware I have an AirPort Extreme Base and AirPort Utility works fine with the PowerBook G4. When you open Network Preferences and click advanced you will see TCP/IP
if you open it you see configure IPv4 you should Using DHCP.

  • Momento Device Does Not See AirPort Extreme Network

Hello all. I have a 7" iMate Momento (for streaming pictures from the Web, RSS feeds, etc.) I just bought. It is not meant to work with Macintosh computers however it is supposed to work with 802.11b/g compatible radio mode. (I have the AirPort Utility v.5.3.1 set for 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) mode.
Here's the problem: the AirPort Utility v. 5.3.1 has no plain vanilla "WPA". I currently have "Wireless Security" set to "WPA/WPA2 Personal" because there is no "WPA" setting. I discovered on line that this Momento device will not work with "hybrid" settings which is what "WPA/WPA2 Personal" is, it seems.
The Momento device claims to support WEP and WPA-PSK (what happened to this Apple setting?) but neither has worked when I used "WPA/WPA2 Personal" or "WEP (Transitional Security Network)" from the AirPort Utility v. 5.3.1.
The next thing I tried was allowing "Access" to the MAC address of the Momento device from the AirPort Utility. No good.
I checked to make sure I was sending the SSID "in the clear" and, indeed, I am as other devices see the network perfectly so I do not have a closed network selected.
Now to make sure the Momento device was working properly I set "Wireless Security" to NONE and bam! the network shows up and I can stream photos I uploaded to the MomentoLive site to the device just fine (after having set up a free account with them and activating things).
Now I obviously do not want to not have security for my network. Do any of your see a way this device can coexist with my Apple Extreme 802.11n network? Why their WEP and Apple's and their WPA-PSK and my Apple WPA/WPA2 Personal settings cannot play nice is beyond me.
Might Mac OS X 10.5.3 address these types of issues? I know the 802.11n "standard" is in flux and maybe that affects 802.11b/g compatibility as well however that may all be working fine as it seems to be the Wireless Security settings on AirPort Utility 5.3.1 don't like their Momento counterparts.
It seems that these devices should be able to talk with each other without having to display all security!
If anyone has any workarounds or other solutions - or explanations of what I'm encountering, I'd love to hear from you.
    Thanks!
    PWRMAC

Here's the problem: the AirPort Utility v. 5.3.1 has no plain vanilla "WPA". I currently have "Wireless Security" set to "WPA/WPA2 Personal" because there is no "WPA" setting. I discovered on line that this Momento device will not work with "hybrid" settings which is what "WPA/WPA2 Personal" is, it seems.
You are correct in that there is not a "WPA Personal" option, only "WPA/WPA2 Personal" or "WPA2 Personal". As for WEP, in addition to "WEP (Transitional Security Network)," there still exists the options for either "WEP 40 bit" or "WEP 128 bit" ... but is is somewhat hidden.
These are available when operating in any of the following radio modes:
    o 802.11b only
    o 802.11b/g compatible
    o 802.11g only, or
    o 802.11a
To access these modes, you just need to hold down the <Option> key when making your selection.

  • Lspci does not recognise my 11g card

I've started a new Arch install on my laptop, in a separate partition form the existing Debian and Windoze. I'm using arch-0.7-beta2-base. The base install is complete, and I have network access via a PC Card wired NIC. However, I generally use this laptop wirelessly - no problem with either Debian or Windoze - but when I run lspci under Arch, I get the following:
02:00.0 Network controller: 3Com Corporation: Unknown device 6001 (rev 01)
I've had a look at /usr/share/hwdata/pcitable, and it contains the following correct information:
    0x10b7 0x6001 "prism54" "3Com Corp.|3cRWE154G72 Wireless LAN adapter"
If the card worked, this wouldn't really matter, but when I modprobe the required prism54 driver, kernel.log shows the following:
    Nov 29 02:10:02 myhost Loaded prism54 driver, version 1.2
    Nov 29 02:10:02 myhost ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:02:00.0[A] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11

    Nov 29 02:10:02 myhost eth0: uploading firmware...
    Nov 29 02:10:02 myhost prism54: request_firmware() failed for 'isl3890'
Nov 29 02:10:02 myhost eth0: could not upload firmware ('isl3890')
The firware file isl3890 is in the right location - /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware - and is the same as the file used under Debian, where it uploads with no problem.
Now I had Arch 0.6 on here briefly before, and the card worked fine, so is this an 0.7 beta bug? Is there anything I can do to fix it, or should I blow the partition and go back to 0.6?
