EMac Screen Shakes

Hey Guys,
My eMac Screen shakes a little if yo look at a corner. It looks like a vibration. The speaker volume thing doesn't work, neither does resetting nvram or PRAM or even changing the resolution.
What can i do?
Oh, i know a lot about macs, but not displays. Can someone tell me what "refresh rate" means?
(just out of curiosity.)
Thanks.

As you no doubt already know, this is a monitor and not a software issue. Prognosis is not good, though I've been able to prolong the life of my monitor by decreasing the refresh rate from Millions to Thousands. This doesn't stop the problem, but it seems to slow it down.
"Refresh rate" is pretty much how it sounds; a higher refresh rate "paints" the image on the monitor at a faster rate. That's why a lower rate might give your monitor a bit more life. I was able to make a monitor with the shakes last six months longer, though your success may vary.

The whole screen shakes and the sides seem to wobble like its wavy.
I have heard many ways to fix this problem but none of them have worked for me yet.
Here are the things that I have tried:
    -Diferent power circuits/outlet
    -turn off screen saver
-check if the cerial # is one that has had problems
-large appliances near or in the room
If you have heard or done anything diferent that works please let me know.
    Thank you

did you check here http://www.apple.com/support/emac/repairextensionprogram/ to see if your computer qualifies for the repair extension program for the emac?? another thing you could try is a pmu reset. directions are in part 6 of this article. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=34885. if your emac is ati graphics or later, then the reset button is on the far right side, not the left.

  • I dropped my iphone 4s and the screen quickly went to stripes then to black. After pressing buttons the next day, the phone works, but the charge was totally depleted and the screen shakes. Is there a fix for this?

I dropped my iphone 4s (it had an otterbox-thick case on it at the time of drop) last night and the screen quickly went to different colored stripes then to black. The phone wouldn't work. This morning, I was pressing all the buttons I could-at the same time and the phone turned on with the battery completely depleted. At the time of the drop the phone had 98% charge. I plugged the phone in and began charging, however, the screen shakes. Is there a fix for the shaking of the screen? The phone works otherwise. Unfortunately, I don't have warranty on it and have only had the phone since November.

Obviously your phone was damaged by the fall. Take it in for evaluation, servicing and/or replacement at an Apple store or authorized service provider.
Since it is out of warranty you will, most likely, have to pay.

  • My Macbook Pro's navigation is not smooth and screen shakes after after i open folders

I just bought my macbook pro 15" and i am experiencing some problems
    For example,
i put safari or any application to full screen. So whenever i move my curser to the top of the screen to i can activate the bar (File - Edit - View - .. etc) It doesn't show and go down smoothly
Whenever I navigate to the right and left with my three fingers, its never smooth ... It keeps breaking and become slow
When I scroll to open my notification center its not smooth
Sometimes the screen shakes when i open an application or do certain things
I guess its a software problem. Please help me find a solution because its getting really frustrating, especially that i just bought it

  • IPhone screen shakes on charge

Hi, have an iPhone that was replaced today, the screen violently shakes/vibrates when on charge and I hold my finger whilst scrolling etc, the phone I took back to the store today did the same!!! What is the problem? And can I fix it? The guy at apple said he had never heard of it before, but I found a few topics about it on google.... None that answers my question unfortunately...

I just found out today this problem ang google it!
I removed the charger and problem gone!
Put back in the screen shakes.
Now my keyboard started to freeze occasionally as I'm typing right now.
What other negative things to discover? I wonder...
I hope Apple sees what we post here so they can fix these

  • After waking from sleep, MBP screen shakes

Curious if anybody else has seen this problem. Periodically when my MBP (santa rosa) wakes from sleep, as best I can describe it, the screen shakes. Mostly vertically, I think. It's a behavior that looks like a loose connection, but it's so closely tied with my installation of Leopard, that I suspect it's a software issue.
    Anybody else?

I dont know what exactly you mean by "shaking" but what I just experienced here a few moments ago sounds kinda similar. My MBP, running on battery, went to sleep for two hours and when I woke it up, the screen went nuts. The brightness was irregular throughout the screen and the image started "flashing" intermitently. Think of a poorly-tuned TV channel. Sounded like what you said...a loose connection, except that it is probably not. I had to to a hard reboot. Toughts from anyone?

  • My iPod 4th generation screen shakes back and forth every once in a while and the touch screen stops working. Then I have to hit the sleep button on and off to make it work

My iPod touch 4th generation screen shakes back and forth every once in a while and won't let me use the touch screen. I have restored it at least 5 times to factory setting and it is still happening. The only way to stop it is to hit the sleep button off and then on again. It happens about once every 5 minutes. Please help.

If you successfully (completed all steps without errors) restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that points to a hardware problem. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

My eMac screen goes grey, with a box appearing instructing me to restart my computer. It appears every time we use the machine, sometimes straight after login. Help!

    tb8,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Refer to What's a "kernel panic"?. You can examine the /Library/Logs/
panic.log file to get a better idea as to the cause of the kernel panic (if necessary, post the last dozen lines or so for others to offer comments). You may need to do a safe boot (see below) after disconnecting all but the Apple keyboard and mouse to get at the log. If you have access to another Firewire-equipped Mac, you can use FireWire target disk mode to get at the panic log.
A general troubleshooting checklist and references are in Gulliver - kmosx3: MacOS X 10.3: Basic trouble-shooting. As Sherry earlier noted, disconnect all peripherals other than the original Apple keyboard and mouse to isolate the hardware. You can check if third-party add-on software is affecting things by Starting Up in Safe Mode; if that resolves the issue, you'll need to examine what's in /Library/PreferencePanes/ as well as what's listed under Login Items for your account.
If you can't startup in safe mode, you can boot from the OS X Install disk and run Disk Utility> Repair Disk from the Installer menu. If you don't have the Install disk handy, you can start the computer in single-user mode and use the Unix file system check utility fsck. Both procedures are described in Using Disk Utility and fsck.
You can further troubleshoot software issues (once you can get onto the computer) by creating a new troubleshooting administrative account and seeing if the problem disappears, which would indicate a problem with your account preferences. You can use Preferential Treatment to check your account's preferences. If kernel panics recurr when using a particular program, start with the preferences for that program (move the .plist files from /Library/Preferences and/or ~/Users/[username]/Library/Preferences to a holding folder on the desktop and restart or log out/back in, depending on whether the preferences in question are system or user level). Since you're seeing kernel panics shortly after login and not before, a user preference or login item is a likely suspect.
You can use MemTest to check your computer RAM; it's a more exhaustive test than the one built into Apple Hardware Test.
You'll also want to reference the <following User Tips Library links:

  • IPhone 6 screen shakes when touching screen in apps

Whenever I use facebook or twitter or the mail app for example and I keep my finger touched on the device, the screen shakes. Anyone else have this? I have a 64 GB iPhone 6

In the last couple of weeks (and nothing has changed) - I noticed that my iPhone 6 will remain in landscape mode if I lift it up too quickly.  It's not frozen - but it's not detecting that it is upright.  The workaround seems to be lower the phone to a horizontal position and then lift it again - slowly - and that seems to restore the portrait mode.  I could understand if this started happening immediately after an update - but it did not - it started about 2 weeks ago.  Typically the app that I use in landscape mode (the most) is youtube.  I'm wondering if it is something with the YouTube app - but I don't recall any recent updates for it either.

  • My screen shakes and my browser keeps going to the maximum window size. Screen shaking up and down

My screen shakes up and down when I am typing or when I click on a new page. If I hold the control button, then the screen doesn't shake. The screen keeps going to maximum size automatically also and the toolbar goes away.

    Hello there Saber7,
If I understand correctly, the phone seems to think the phones volume up is constantly being pressedbut the button still clicks when you press it. This should be easy to isolate to hardware or software, so I would start by quitting all the apps that are running on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that reset the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

  • EMac Screen is discolored

I am having an issue with an EMac screen showing spots on the display screen. It gets worse when the mouse clicks on the screen. The discolorations do not go away, but keep getting worse as the computer continues being used. When the computer starts up the Apple logo is normal without any blotches. The screen saver also shows normal on the screen, but when the desktop is in view, the computer is discolored with streaks and spots. Any advice on correcting this issue?

You can use the miniVGA adapter to attach a standard VGA monitor to theeMac. As for the all-in-one design, the eMac was originally intended for the school / educational market only, where having one unit was actually a selling point --- harder for young students to pull things apart, and harder for older students to swipe the parts.
In your place I'd try resetting the NVRAM (a battery-backed memory location that holds key machine settings) and reset Open Firmware (which controls the low-level guts of the Mac). restart holding down the command-option-o-f keys; at the "Welcome to Open Firmware" black text on a white screen type in the following commands and press return after each (case sensitive, no spaces):
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
    reset-all
The Mac should restart after reset-all (if it doesn't, type mac-boot and press Return)
I'd suspect the video hardware may be failing, except for your detail about things getting worse when the mouse is used and returning to normal on a restart. That suggests some kind of unusual danage to the software drivers for the display. If you have the OS X Install disk that came with the eMac, or a retail OS X Installer that postdates the eMac, you can boot from that disc and open Disk Utility from the Installer menu to run Repair Disk on the hard drive, taking note of any errors reported. The procedure is described in Using Disk Utility and fsck. If the hard drive passes the test, and there's at least 5 GB free space on the hard drive, I'd try the archive and install procedure. You'll likely need the OS X Update Combo 10.2.8 afterwards, unless the OS X Install disc is at 10.2.8 (or you use a retail OS X Installer to update to a leter OS X version a la Gulliver - Tiger Upgrade Guide).

  • Emac Screen Dimming Out

Hi, Recently my emac screen started becoming dark after restarting it would remain okay for about an hour before turning dark again. Any suggestions why this is happening. Thanks!

First check your power settings in the prefrence pane to make sure its not doing it.
If not, this is either going to be a CRT issue or an Analog board issue. If this is the case you need to take it to an authorized apple service center in your area for diagnostics and repair.

  • Help, Screen shakes, lines everywhere

My screen shakes and has lines making the laptop unusable on and off all day. I must tilt the screen or tap the top of the screen to make it stop. I'm also experiencing a gray half screen when the computer wakes up from sleep. Thanks for any help you can provide!

it sounds like there might be a loose connection in your display.
if it's easily reproduced, take it in to your local apple store and have it checked out and repaired.
