EMac w/external mirror monitor shows dual images

Help! I am confused! I have an older monitor that I plugged into my eMac, hoping to have it mirror what is on the eMac monitor, it works, but there are two indentical images on the external monitor, right beside one another... Using the same adapter and monitor, I plugged it into my Power Mac and it mirrored perfectly... Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Al

Some user said that the original eMac had problem with its display chipset.
Just try to detect the external display on the system preference > displays, and play with the resolution and or freq, and see what happen.
Also try to reset NV-Ram and PMU, it might help.
Good Luck.

  • External/secondary monitor shows no image/desktop

    Hello,
For a year and a half I have been using an AOC E2752Vq 27" as secondary/external display in another room. It's connected to my 2014 27" iMac by a miniDisplay Port to HDMI adapter, then an HDMI to dual Ethernet adapter and back to HDMI.
Everything was working fine until few days ago when without having made any modification (as far as I can remember) the external screen did not show the desktop when I turned it on, neither in mirror nor in extension mode. However it is properly detected by Mac OS and if one of the cable is unplugged the mode switches back to extension and the external display prints out that there is no signal.
I've tried a bunch of things: checking the connections, unpluging/plugging the cables one side, the other side, turning off/on the external screen, reboot the computer, change the display settings in Mac OS's preferences and also a guest account.
When I turn on the external display it only shows the AOC logo, then dark black, then bright black with "Input Not Supported" message.
The only thing I remember doing before it stopped working was to make a security update for 10.8.5
    Any idea ?

    Hello Somolian,
The article linked below details a number of troubleshooting steps that can help isolate the source of the issue and determine an appropriate resolution.

  • I have an aluminum MacBook with Lion OS. I have hooked up a Samsung external HD monitor, but the image is slightly blurry.I also see a message for a second which says Analog. What to do??

I have an aluminium MacBook and have just connected an external Samsung HD monitor. The image is blurry and I cannot seem to fix it.
The MacBook display is 1280x800 but the maximum for the external monitor is much higher. Also the external monitor sometimes displays a (rapid) message implying that it's getting an Analog signal.
    How can I fix this??

FWIW, reformatting a USB disk is almost never an issue, and it's quick.
Buy a cheap external USB disk (regardless of the provided Windows or OS X or other disk format) (that's larger than your internal disk by some measure) and preferably buy a disk from a vendor that offers the right to return the disk if it doesn't work, connect the disk to your MacBook, wipe the disk and reformat it with Disk Utility, perform the backup (probably also using Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, while your MacBook is booted from the installation DVD), and then commence with the OS X upgrade.

  • External Video Monitor shows still picture but won't play

I have a sony minidv deck for external device control and a sony trinitron monitor. I am using FCP 6.0 and a imac intel core. It had been working fine, but now I can't get a playback. The monitor only shows the most recent still image of what was played. i'v replaced the firewire cord so that's not it. The deck palys dv tapes on the monitor fine. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Shane's Stock Answer #8: External Monitor Viewing
If you are working with DV, this is simple. First connect your computer to a camera or deck via firewire, Then connect the camera/deck to your TV/Monitor via RCA or S-Video.
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Go to the View Menu, choose > External video > all frames
VIEW>Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
VIEW>Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section.
If you are working with HDV footage, FCP 6 allows you to view this via firewire, but ONLY as downconverted DV. It won't look the best, but you can see it. To do this,
If you need to view any format other than DV at full resolution, then you need to look into capture cards. Several standard definition and high definition models are available from www.aja.com and www.decklink.com. With these options you'll need a proper monitor to view full broadcast colors, but all models allow for realtime standard definition downconvert, allowing you to view HD on an SD monitor.
The Matrox MXO is another option that is output only, but allows you to view your footage on an Apple Cinema Display at full broadcast quality.

  • Windows 7 Laptop to external LCD monitor show low resolution

    Hello,
I'm connecting my laptop to external LCD 1920*1080.
When Extend the display, each screen works with its full resolution allowed (Laptop has lower than 1920*1080 and the LCD works with resolution of 1920*1080), but when duplicate the display, the LCD has a black frame and the desktop is only at the center
of the screen and not an all the screen.
Is it possible, when duplicate the display, that each monitor work with full Resolution? or when
dup the higher resolution will be according to the lower resolution?
    thanks.

  • Project shows dual images

    Hi,
I'm having a small problem that I can't seem to figure out. In Aperture 2, I noticed that in one of my projects in the viewer I see one image, but when I select it, a totally different images shows up in the main window. I am thinking I have a file name conflict, but I cannot figure this out. Any help is much appreciated.

This sounds like the same problem we've noticed in another thread. Choosing "Generate thumbnails" for your library may solve it, as should rebuilding the library (hold down Command-Option when starting) but it may be waiting on a bug-fix from Apple.

  • After connecting a late 2008 MacBook to an external monitor can I show different images on them?

After connecting an external monitor to my MacBook(late 2008) is it possible to show different images on the two screens at the same time?
    TIA

Yes. Open System Preference (under the Apple menu) and select Displays. See the instructions in this Apple article for how to continue.
    Best of luck.

  • I have an Apple Powerbook G4, and my monitor doesn't function. I have an external display Monitor, however it's stuck in extended screen mode. How do I get it to mirror or duplicate the display without use of the on-board?

As i had said, I have an Apple Powerbook G4, and my monitor doesn't function. I have an external display Monitor, however it's stuck in extended screen mode. How do I get it to mirror or duplicate the display without use of the on-board? Is there a Fn key combo i'm missing or is the issue more serious then i realize? any and all help and hints would be greatly apprichiated, thanks in advance.
    -Powerbook User

The PowerBooks have an F-key that toggles mirrored and extended mode. My PB is loaned out right now but I think it was f7. The keycap has an icon on two overlapping rectangles, as I recall.
EDIT: Yes! Found a pdf of the PB manual it shows F7 is the toggle:

  • Macbook Pro incorrectly 'sees' external vga mirrored monitor while booting

So I've experiencing some new behavior with my Core Duo Macbook Pro. The past few days it has boot up with no login window. The background is the 'normal' Leopard star scene. If I press 'apple-F7', I do get a screen switch that shows a login window in normal vga resolution.
Once I get in, the display system prefs automatically comes up and wants to adjust the resolution down further. I thought it odd that it thought there were two displays connected, the machine's LCD and an external VGA and it is trying to mirror the two. When I turn off mirroring, I lose all of the system preferences as it seems the non-existent VGA screen has the title bar. I then need to do a 'detect display' and it will correctly re-adjust back to the single display.
This first started when it came out of sleep mode a few days ago and is now booting up fairly consistently with this phantom external VGA monitor. I've even had System Profiler show two different displays (LCD and VGA) prior to redetecting displays.
My question is: Why is this computer seeing an external VGA display when I have NOTHING plugged into the DVI port? I've never plugged anything into it since my 'fresh' install of Leopard. I've had the machine into the Apple store for a failing microphone (which was not fixed yet because they wanted to send it in). During the Apple store visit, they did reset the PRAM.
I'm really perplexed and getting annoyed at window flipping/adjusting in order to get logged in.
    Anyone?

Yes. Contact Apple using the links in the kbase article you mention.

  • External Monitor Shows Only Black Screen ??

Recently, my PowerBook G4 12" stopped working properly with my external monitor. My external monitor is a Dell 2005FPW that is connected to my laptop via a mini-DVI adapter, a VGA cable to the VGA port on the 2005FPW. When connected to the laptop, the 2005FPW goes black; otherwise, the monitor shows it's "rest" screen which is a bouncing color bar.
This system has worked without problems for years. I changed nothing in the configuration and (possible red herring) the only "event" prior to the problem developing was that I installed the "Security Update 2008-005 (PowerPC) v 1.0".
I have confirmed that the monitor and VGA cable are working with my wife's laptop.
Today, I replaced the mini-DVI to VGA adapter, and the problem hasn't gone away.
    Any suggestions?
    Michael

Did it develop around the same time, after you downloaded the security update?

  • Satellite Pro U200 - External VGA monitor does not show any output

I have bought this device as used from ebay. It is working fine except that the External VGA connection does not work. I am using win 7 and have it does recognize the external display correctly and I can configure it as an extended display. However the external display does not show anything. The external VGA monitor is fine as it works with other Laptop machines. I have tried using UBUNTU Live CD on this machine and tried to make the external display work (and it can also recongize the external display and configure it) but there is no picture. I also connected the external display to the vga port and then re-booted the machine but still no picture. I have tried changing the bios settings for the display as well but all my actions point to a hardware fault.
I am not sure if it is a manufacturing fault ? Do you know if this issue has been reported earlier to you. Is there a product recall issued for this?
Please advise as I need to connect this external display but am sure that it is a hardware fault with your device.

    Hi buddy,
Have you already tested it with factory settings? I mean the preinstalled Windows from Toshiba with all drivers and tools. If you have the Toshiba recovery disk you should boot from this disk and install Windows with all drivers and tools.
Furthermore you can switch between external and internal monitor using FN+F5 key combination. Does this work?

  • Satellite A100-646 and external monitor shows black screen

    Hello to everybody,
I have a similar problem with A100-646 (bought in Italy). Laptop's LCD and external monitor shows black screen but system boots without other problem. When laptop is not used for a long time (half a year) it work for one week without any problem.
Unfortunately, there is no proper service in a place where I live. Perhaps, there is a problem with power supply.
Is there other idea? Does anybody have a service manual? ([email protected])

It is not easy to find shop where you can order original and new hardware components.
Best source for such parts is definitely eBay where you can buy used but well working components.
Upgrade? You must know that upgrade on mobile computers is not the same as on desktops. Cooling possibilities are not the best and each notebook model has optimized cooling system for original parts. So new graphic card can be more powerful and produce more heat and it is definitely not good for your notebook. So best thing you can do is to replace it with original part.

  • Why does Activity Monitor show traffic to my external drive?

Because one of my email accounts was hacked a couple of months ago (from my provider's end, I'm convinced), I have been monitoring network usage on my iMac using Activity Monitor. Yesterday, I noticed almost continuous use, altho "spiky".  The spikes were very regular and high and just kept going on and on.  I shut down all my apps (including mail, browser, etc.) except Photoshop.  Spikes still there.  Pulled out the Ethernet cord.  Spikes still there.  Shut down blue tooth, wi-fi - spikes still there.  Overnight, I shut down my computer.  This a.m. when I powered up, still spikes.  I noticed Time Machine was running.  Stopped it, and spikes stopped.  I have my back up on a separate external hard drive.  Why in the world would Activity Monitor show this as "network activity"?  Is there any way I can use settings that would show only "real" network activity, from outside my wi-fi, blue-tooth, and external drives? Spiky right now (can't get screen shot to upload), but more irregular. Have browser, email, and others open. Time Machine not running.
Maybe there's some other app that would help me watch my network usage in the way I would like. Please recommend.   Thx!
