EMac: What's the CRT's Dot Pitch

Hi. I'm planning to mod an eMac at a thrift store for $27 equivalent (not sure how hard it can be revived but they say it doesn't start. It's got no keyboard nor mouse but it has 128MB memory and the power cord's still there) for it to work as a regular TV for retro gaming on a Dreamcast with games doing VGA resolution but what is the dot pitch of the eMac's CRT? Is it .22?
Also if anyone has a link on how to mod the eMac as a VGA monitor so it can be connected to a Dreamcast with a  VGA box, that'd be very time saving and very helpful.
Thank you in advance.
God bless, Rev. 21:4

According to the Apple Development notes for the 1Gen (USB 1.1) eMacs:
The built-in video display uses a 17-inch CRT (16-inch viewable diagonal). The CRT uses shadow-mask technology and has a dot pitch of 0.25 mm. The display has a fixed horizontal scan rate (72 kHz) and supports five resolutions. Table 3-6 lists the resolutions and the vertical scan rates supported.
The display has a mode called Theater Mode that increases the display luminance when playing full-screen video material. Theater Mode is an option in the Displays control panel and is active only when an application requests it.
The display supports pixel depths up to 24 bits (millions of colors) at all resolutions.
Table 3-6
Resolution
640 by 480
800 by 600
1024 by 768
1152 by 864
1280 by 960
Notes for the 2Gen (USB 2.0) eMacs show the hardware specs are basically the same.
Unfortunately those documents do not show any video pin details that would help you with the modding.

  • What's the difference between dot sourcing and non-dot sourcing?

My teacher is incompetent in this matter.
I've been struggling to make logic out of the use of dot-sourcing and non dot sourcing.
What is the difference? I've been bashing my head against the wall for the past hour.

    Hi Loginux,
"simply" put, non-dotsourcing scripts / functions will run them in their own small box ("Scope"), which is discarded when the execution finishes. Dotsourcing will run it in the current environment. Example:
    script.ps1:
    $Hello = "Hello World"
    non-dotsourced:
    $Hello = "Hi Mark"
    & .\script.ps1
    Write-Host $Hello
    dotsourced:
    $Hello = "Hi Fred"
    . .\script.ps1
    Write-Host $Hello
    Cheers,
    Fred

  • What is the grey cloudy dots on iMessages

Hello, how come I don't get the actual answer to my iMessage while I see the grey dots running?

thank you..  to poster and stevejobsfans0123.  It sounds weird. I mean could it be that the person is typing to another person and the it shows the ongoing green dots on mine... ?  In other words, when I send a iMessage (blue) to someone could I see my correspondent typing a message which in fact is not meant to be a reply to me but a message  someone else and that it why I don't receive anything?  It happens often.  thank you

  • What does the half-blue dot symbol mean?

I rip DVDs via HandBrake onto my MacBook desktop, and then drag it into my iTunes movie category.
The movies in my iTunes have a blue dot symbol next to each one. Sometimes the blue dots are half blue/half white, while some are all blue. It is obviously an indicator of some type, but of what?
    Thanks

All blue means you have not started watching it.
Half blue means you have started but not finished it.
No dot means you have watched it through to the end.

There is no default user or password; these are set up with the computer following the installation process. Ask the person who sold you the computer for it.

  • What is the Dot Pitch of the New 20" Intel iMac's Display?

    Hi all,
I'm asking specifically about the 20" Intel Core 2 Duo if that matters--although it may well be that all the 20" iMacs have the same displays.
I tried to get this question answered by the tech "support" people at AppleCare and in short, they were clueless (the first techie I spoke with didn't even know what "dot pitch" meant which was really disheartening). And I've searched all the specs, it is nowhere to be found. The closest I was able to get was a thread on the 20" G5 that said the dot pitch was .254 based on the resolution of 1680 x 1050 (which is of course the same resolution of the 20" Intel Core 2 Duo iMac).
Can anyone verify this for me or explain please how the dot pitch is calculated using the display's resolution (if indeed that is the way it's calculated)?
Thanks in advance for any help on this!

    Hi Wade!
My post wasn't meant to contradict yours, sorry if it may look that way. I'm sure that the number you posted is correct, as Apple would be using a millimeter measurement in their calculation rather than the general "20-inch" term that I entered into the calculator and into a second that turned up not far behind in the list of googled hits - only to see if they worked:)
My point was how the iMac dot pitch could be calculated, and I didn't try to determine the exact method, just passed along the existence of a calculator, figuring that surely the OP can read the googled hits to find one with more in-depth info. Based on the few definitions I read, all 20-inch displays with 1680 x 1050 resolution will have a similar dot pitch. To me, that just confirmed what we all knew anyway.
I don't think there's any significant difference in those two numbers. The importance for most users appears to be that a dot pitch of higher than 31 makes it too difficult to read newsprint online. I recall reading on here within the past two years about displays with higher resolutions being available for specialized uses, but the prices were like five figures, beyond the reach of most of us asking or answering questions on here. I guess they're less today, but I still don't want to know:)

  • What is the process for connecting ethernet.  Have ethernet cable connected to stereo received for internet radio and Blue Ray. However Network System Preferences indicates ethernet not connected and has red dot to left.  Note Airport wireless is working.

What is the process for connecting airport extreme ethernet?  I have ethernet cables connected to stereo receiver for internet radio and another to blue ray player.  The system preference network indicates "ethernet not connected" with red dot to left of this message.  The airport wireless works and has green dot to left of it.  The stereo receiver and blue ray player do not respond and give message not connect to internet.  Thank you.  /  cfpirate

It worked for me finally. I took out the DNS numbers in airport admin utility, and restarted the airport express. I do not remember putting the DNS numbers in, I wonder from where the airport express got those numbers.
    After restarting, it worked.
    Thanks!

  • What is the dot gain setting in the US Web Coated Swop v2 profile?

    Hey guys,
This might seem like a bit of a n00b question, but I really can't find this info any which way I Google it.
What is the default dot gain setting in the US Web Coated SWOP v2 profile?
Allow me to explain my dilema:
My printer told me to use the US Web Coated SWOP v2 this profile for a catalog we're printing. 4/4 on 100# gloss book stock. However I've used that profile in the past and the prints came out darker than I expected them to. I don't have a high enough quality printer to be able to test this in-house, but I'm pretty sure my monitor is not overly bright or set to an overly high contrast level. They indicated to me that their standard dot gain is about 10-15%
I assumed the SWOP v2 profile accounted for 20% dot gain as that appears to be the default for many of the other color settings, but I've never known for sure. I'm trying to decide if I need to use a custom profile with a higher dot gain setting.
    Thanks for any help!
    Kenzier

    Hello Kenzier,
the ICC-profile US Web Coated SWOP contains a tone reproduction curve  (TRC)
which cannot be characterized accurately by Dot Gain or Gamma.
For the entry in Color Settings > Gray we can proceed as follows:
Color Settings > Gray > Load gray > (click on) USWebCoatedSWOP.icc > Save gray
This saves a 'Black-ink-profile' with a similar name, which replaces Dot Gain
    or Gamma settings.
This profile can be interpreted by the program ICC Profile Inspector (free):
Here we have kTRC (black ink tone reproduction curve), the red line.
With the auxiliary black diagonal one can read the effective  dot gain 20%,
    the blue line.
The printer should tell you a profile which is representative (a good approximation)
    for his actual process.

  • What does the dotted circle mean?

When connecting itouch to itunes, what does the dotted circle mean next to a song? Thanks for the help.

    Hi pfn,
From an earlier post on this topic - this may work for you - it's worth a try:
First go to the 'On This iPad/iPod/iPhone' section and note all the tracks that have dotted circles.
In the 'Music' section, un-check/de-select all the tunes noted
    Apply and sync the changes.
Once that completes re-check/re-select the same tunes just un-checked/de-selected in the 'Music' section.
Apply and sync the changes again
Go back into the 'On This iPad/iPod/iPhone' section
Hopefully all the dotted circles will be gone and all the tracks can be played
    See if this helps!
    Cheers,

  • What is the latest version of Mac OS X supported on the eMac G4 PowerMac6,4

I have an old eMac with a 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 Processor and 512 MB of RAM. I am currently on Mac OS X 10.4.11 and would like to know what is the latest version that i can update to? This old computer is just to hold me over until i get a Mac Mini in a few weeks.
    Thanks,
    Eric
P.S: I am tying this on the eMac right now.

The max OS is Leopard 10.5. But, you'll have to buy the upgrade. You are at the latest/last version of Tiger 10.4.
Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store *but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)*.

I was just wondering what do the different color circles mean when I've located my iphone. So far I've seen a green dot with a green bigger outlined circle around it , a gray circle , a gray circle with a gray bigger outline around it , a real big green circle like the whole circle is dark green. I'm mainly just wondering can you tell if they are texting or using the phone at the time or if its on off or on vibrate is that what those different colors mean?

  • EMac 800 512MB - What is the best level of OS to run ?

I need to reload OS X on my emac, but before I go out and buy a set of CDs I though I would ask what is the best level of OS X to purchase (10.3, 10.4 etc.) that will run comfortably on my 800mhz 512MB emac ?
Is there a feature comparison list anywhere ?
    Thanks.

I just bought a full retail Tiger DVD package online here:
    http://store.fastmac.com/productinfo.php?productsid=100
It was indeed a retail box with shrink wrap still intact.
If your eMac does not have a DVD drive, the same source claims to have Tiger retail on CD:
    http://store.fastmac.com/productinfo.php?productsid=111
Not cheap but the alternatives (some grey system disks) may cause trouble or not work at all.
