Emachines E525 - Alps Touchpad Pointer stopped working

my laptop's Alps Touchpad Pointer stopped working, but the software shows it as "working properly." Touching the pad or clicking the buttons does nothing though. Restarts and reinstalling the driver has also done nothing. Whats going on? This laptop is only 12-16 months old and the touchpad is already dead? Help please!

Sounds like you need to get it fixed, not sure how much touchpad fixing cost at best buy. But if its over 300 I would suggest looking for a better brand notebook.

  • HP Pavilion dm1-4000au Entertainment Notebook PC_Keyboard and Touchpad Suddenly Stops Working

    Hi there,
I have an HP Pavilion dm1-4000au Entertainment Notebook PC (QG411PA) running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit for more than a couple of years already. During those times up until now, whenever my laptop is on standby for an hour or so, its keyboard and touchpad suddenly stops working, regardless if its running on battery or on AC power.
I always ensure that I have an external mouse in order for me to navigate properly and pull up the on-screen keyboard in order to type once that issue arises.
All appears to be updated in terms of Windows Updates and I even reformatted it, but issue still persists.
Is this particular issue that I am experiencing a harware issue? Perhaps a software issue? Or maybe a defective model itself?
Your prompt response is highly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Led

  • TouchPad has stopped working in Satellite L300

    Hi Xaxer, hi there,
as I dont know how to post a new topic, I just reply (I apologize for that way).
The touch pad on my L300 has stopped working. (Vista 32 bit). Fn and F9 does not change anything.
USB-Mouse works fine. Downloaded new touch-pad driver.
Touch pad is not shown in the device manager.
    What should I do?
    Any idea?
How can I check whether the tp-driver is installed properly?
    Thanks in advance.
    Heinz

    > How can I check whether the tp-driver is installed properly?
Go to control panel -> mouse -> last tab (Advanced or Pointing device) -> Advanced button
There you should see all touchpad settings.

  • Touchpad randomly stops working and I need to disable/enable it in driver settings

My mouse touchpad sometimes (very often, actually) just stops working completely (no mouse movements, no clicks etc.), it's just completely dead, even both click buttons. What I then need to do in order to temporarily fix it is to go Synaptics Pointing Device (this window) and click "disable" and then "enable". This appearently re-enables my touchpad and everything works again for a while. This is becoming a big issue for me. If I don't have a external mouse present, the only way to fix the problem is to restart my laptop. I do have the right drivers installed. Latest version and windows 8.1 drivers. I even updated them with HP Support Assistant to make sure. And I also tried downloading them from here (Synaptics Mouse Driver version 18.1.24.4). Also, this happens completely randomly. Sometimes after 10min of usage, sometimes after a few hours. Also, I am not the one accidentaly disabling it (there is no orange light). Sometimes it even happens that the drivers aren't loaded when laptop turns on, so touchpad isn't working from the start and there's no way to enable it. So I need to restart laptop. How can I fix this?

I have. Multiple times. I even tried installing some older version drivers to see if it works. Currently, I can't get my touchpad to work at all. I'm using my external mouse. I restarted the laptop multiple times and there is no Synaptics icon in the taskbar and touchpad + both buttons are completely unresponsive.

  • Alps Touchpad driver not working while PS/2 Compatible driver works on touchpad - Win 8.1

I am using HP PAVILION 14-N201T X Laptop ( 4th Gen Intel Core i5 4200U- 4GB RAM- 1T B HDD- 14 Inches- Win8. 1- 2GB Graph). Suddenly, yesterday, when I restarted my laptop, Alps Touchpad stopped functioning. I have tried different methods, including downloading Windows 8.1 updates (which include Alps Touchpad driver upgrade), downloading Alps touchpad driver from HP Support website. However, Alps touchpad is not functioning. If it helps, I may mention that Alps touchpad is shown plugged into PS/2 mouse port. After I uninstall Alps touchpad driver, the laptop starts using PS/2 Compatible Mouse for the touchpad which is also shown plugged into PS/2 mouse port. However, with this driver, while the touchpad can move the cursor anywhere and the tapping works (for the left-click equivalent), the right-click button on touch-pad is not working and the I cannot hold and scroll the scroll-bar in the right of any window with the help of touchpad. A touchpad click in the blank area of scroll bar moves only a very little distance. However, all this appears to show that touchpad hardware may be alright, there is some problem with Alps touchpad driver. I have also started using a USB mouse with the laptop, but that is inconvenient. I purchased this laptop about a year back. What can I do to resolve this problem?

  • G580 Touchpad Click stopped working

Hi I have problem with built in touchpad on G580. It worked OK for two days then the click stopped working. I can move the mouse pointer but clicking has no effect, I tried a plug in USB mouse and that clicked OK.
After a few days it started working again. Then after two weeks stopped again. I went for a system restore and went back a month and all was ok again - so looks like a driver issue
Click stopped working again so I reinstalled Windows 8 Touchpad driver - didnt fix problem
Tried to do a system restore but going bacl one day didnt fix it and attempt to restore older than that failed.
    Any ideas, really annoying

    hi rob_s_smith,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Do you get the same problem if you're running in battery power?
If you don't, and the Touchpad is working ok when it's working on the battery then the touchpad board is probably getting grounded when it's connected to the charger - see this thread as it's similar to the problem.
If problem perist on battery and AC power then you may need to contact lenovo for service as the touchpad is showing an imminent failure.
    Hope this helps

  • Google maps "get directions" between two points stopped working in firefox

When using google maps to find directions between two points "Get Directions" it will just sit there loading... never finishing and showing the routes between the locations.
This used to work fine about a month ago. I have not done anything, expect update Firefox.

I can still get the basic directions to work in Google Maps, but recently the 3D driving directions has stopped working, and I'm pretty sure it stopped just about one Firefox update back. I realize this function is gravy to many people - a toy - but for someone who uses visual cues it has been extremely useful for imprinting the information in my mind, familiarizing myself with the route ahead of the drive. When I am traveling without a 'navigator' - a passenger who can read the directions as I drive - this is a huge help. Today I got a message about updating the GoogleEarth plugin, which I did - twice! Still no 3d directions, though suddenly the GG 3d driving simulator works. This has to be a FF problem :-(

  • My macbook mouse/touchpad has stopped working. After 5 minutes ,the mouse won't click and I have to shut down. What's wrong?

I have a white macbook, about 4 years old. Every time I use it, after five minutes, the mouse and touchpad stop working. You can still hear the click but it doesn't actually click anything on the screen, effectively freezing the computer. I have to just shut it down. What can i do about this?!? Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Most likely you're experiencing this issue when starting Microsoft Office (I did too)
    Here's how to fix it
    1.
Download the 16.3.9.0 driver from here
    http://www.station-drivers.com/page/Synaptics.htm
    2.
uninstall your current synaptics driver and reboot when it asks you to (your touchpad will still work, just without gestures and it will move slower than before)
    3.
Install the new driver and restart if it asks you to
    4.
Go to the mouse properties and the synaptics tab and adjust the touchpad to your liking
(here will be 2 devices listed, clicking the settings of one of them brings up manufacturer information, the other will bring up configuration)
    5.
    No more nonworking driver
just so you know, resuming from sleep will cause the synaptics driver icon to appear in your taskbar even if you have disabled it from appearing there, but it will go away automatically
and also, the 4-finger flick option in the configuration settings will not work, but everything else should

  • Tx2 laptop touchpad has stopped working

Recently the synaptics touchpad on my tx2 1020ea laptop has spontaneously stopped working. I haven't changed anything before this issue popped up. I installed the latest touchpad drivers, and the touchpad started working again. However, after a shutdown it's back to not working again.
There appears to be two different states of non-workingness going on:
    1) touchpad is non-responsive but the button to turn the touchpad on or off is still working (going from white to orange), the touchpad shows up correctly in device manager etc. but touchpad doesn't work.
    2) where I am now, touchpad still isn't working but  the on/off button isn't working either. To make matters stranger in control panel>mouse under the synaptics tab, nothing shows up, everything is greyed out. The Hardware tab in mouse settings shows:
    HID-compliant mouse
    Manufacturer: micorsoft
Location: on  Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver (I know this ain't right)
Status: this device is working properly
I'm going to uninstall/re-install the synaptics drivers again, but I'm guessing the same thing will occur, touchpad working till i reboot the computer.
    Any thoughts?

So I've been waiting for a reply that hasn't come but today something new and equally bewildering has happened, I restarted my laptop as my touchscreen had stopped working, as it frequently does. After the restart the touchscreen is working again, but for the first time in 2 weeks the synatpics ps/2 touchpad has appeared back in the device manager.
    Synaptics PS/2 port touchpad
    Manufacturer: Synaptics
Located on: Plugged into PS/2 mouseport
Status: This device is working properly
The synaptics icon also show in my taskbar, the synaptics tab on mouse settings is longer greyed out. It looks like its back to working as it should.
But it isn't, the on/off button has started working again, but the touchpad itself still does not register anything, it's still deader than Elvis, anyone have any ideas what's wrong. Of course this problem would only rear its head 4 weeks after my warranty expired, go figure.

  • M45-S331 no history of issues... 2 right usb ports and the touchpad have stopped working.

    Hi,
I'm really starting to give out of things to try to figure this out.  So this laptop was bought, brought home and sat on a little table and has been handled delicately.  I was happy to get it and it's never had an issue.  Like the title says, now the USBs on the right side (single left usb functioning) and the touchpad have just stopped doing anything.  I can't really say for sure exactly what was going on before it started to do that... I'm thinking it was working, I shut it down and maybe a day later I powered it up and noticed it probably as I was trying to log in.  I have: checked connections, board contacts, drivers, reinstalled windows... so I mean at that point there's probably nothing I can do... but all seems fine with the equipment from what I can see looking at it, add in the fact that the two aren't really exactly the same so for them both to go like that is odd... I just want to know what I'm not thinking to do as far as troubleshooting it...
I don't know if there's anything else I can provide, but if there is I'll have it...
    Thanks.

I'm beginning to think there's not too much more I can check.  I still think it's odd that the 2 usbs and the touchpad go out at the same time.

  • Toshiba L55-A5226 Touchpad Randomly Stopped Working

I used a external mouse before this happened so I noticed it probably a week after it occurred. I tried going into the synaptics driver but it no longer showed up in the mouse menu. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest touchpad drivers (more than 10 times) but whenever I open mouse properties after a fresh install it says Unable to connect to the synpatics pointing driver and asks me to uninstall it or not. The touchpad does not show up in device manager either only HID compliant mouse shows up. I have also tried FN + F5 (the f key with the mouse symbol on it) and it has not worked either. I have also downloaded the newest motherboard driver to no avail. I'm starting to think the ribbon connecting the touchpad to the motherboard has loosened or whatever but I hope not. Also the latest driver for my laptop is from mid 2013, I recall seeing one from 2015 but I can't seem to find it again, if someone can I would appreciate it greatly. *Update: I refreshed the computer without affecting files in hopes of it automatically downloading but that didn't workout either. PART NO. PSKLAU-01200E

Sorry I think I posted this in the wrong place. I reposted in the keyboard and touchpad section of the forums.

  • When a PDF is opened in a tab, my laptop's touchpad scroll stops working for other tabs. (But works perfectly fine on the pdf tab or with every tab after closing the pdf tab)

My touchpad scroll was not working many times after i installed firefox 6. But it works perfectly fine in other browsers at the same time.
After some playing around, i found that this problem occurs only when a pdf is open in some tab (The scrolling works in pdf's tab but not in other tabs). Once that particular tab is closed, the scrolling starts working properly.

Using similar scroll function on my netbook. To add to the above, I find that using scroll is actually causing the PDF to scroll rather than the tab I'm actually in.
Reader 9 is installed on my Win7 Starter.
