Email Address Compromised

I have received "From: [email protected]
Subject: Returned mail: see transcript for details" in my mail box today. The sender of the undeliverable mail is using my email address with another name apearing before. "From: Jeremy <*my address*@mac.com>". This has happened three times this morning with three different names preceeding my address. How are hackers able to send an email using my address as the sending address via .Mac? Do I need to worry, or just delete an ignore the [email protected] messages.
Thanks. Brad.

Doubtful anyone has hacked your computer or email account.
Sounds like a spammer has hijacked your email address only using it to appear as the sending email address for bulk spam mailings.
For many email accounts, there is nothing preventing someone from entering any email address in the email address field for the account preferences to appear as the sending email address for a message. Spammers use bogus email addresses to appear as the sending email address for their garbage and sometimes hijack a valid email address.
In addition to my .Mac account, I also access a POP type account provided by my ISP with Mail. Going to Mail > Preferences > Accounts under the Account Information tab for the account preferences, I can enter your email address in the Email Address field for the account preferences which will appear as the sending email address for a message sent with this email account or I can enter your email address as the Reply To email address.
Unless an ISP or email account provider prevents entering a different email address in the Email Address field when sending a message with an account they provide, there is little you can do.
I had the same occur not long ago with an old Earthlink email account. I forwarded some of the bounced messages to Earthlink. The bounced messages should contain the sender's computer IP address.
I suggest contacting .Mac with this information but other than that, there isn't much you can do.

  • I am trying to change my primary email address for it has been compromised. the email address I am trying to change it to is my rescue email address? how do I change my primary email address?

I am trying to change my primary address for it has been compromised. The email address I am trying to change it to is my "rescue" email address. How do I change my primary email address to my rescue email address? can I delete my rescue email address so I can use it as my primary?

You will have to delete your rescue email address first, then go back and change your primary.
    Source: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5312
You can edit or delete your rescue email address at My Apple ID. To edit your rescue email address:
Navigate to My Apple ID using your web browser.
    Click "Manage your account"
When prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
    Click Password & Security
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
Note: The option to send an email to reset your security questions and answers will not be available if a rescue email address is not provided. You will need to contact iTunes Store support in order to do so.

  • How do u delete iCloud account or CHANGE the email address?

Long story short, I ended up having to restore to factory settings my iphone.  I had planned on restoring one of the backups that I had done through iTunes.  (Yes, I now know to backup through iCloud so please do NOT suggest that -.-) but it kept telling me that there was a threat detected in the backup file??? So skipped it. And tried again. Didn't work. Got same msg about the threat. So I ended up healing the threat and then it told me that it couldn't restor the backup because a file was either missing or corrupted. I'm like..***!!! Ughness.
So now I'm trying to set it up so that I can back it up via iCloud so that this stupid issue doens't occur again, but my old @rogers.com email address is the iCloud email addres and I'm trying to change it in the iPhone to my @bell.net email address.  I have changed it in itunes.  It's working there...but my stupid iPhone keeps asking me for the password on the Apple ID that has the @rogers.com email address. THAT IS NOT THE EMAIL ADDRESS THAT IS SET UP IN MY APPLE ID! I have already set up the new one....which is the @bell.net one but for some stupid reason, iCloud keeps wanting the @rogers.com one...and whenever I enter it, it's not correct because that email address has been removed.
    Can someone PLEASE help me.
    Thanks
    Rose

You can't actually terminate an iCloud account, though obviously you can simply log out of it on all your devices and then ignore it in future.
I gather that the @icloud.com address is also the actual ID? You can't change that. However if your Apple ID that you use to log into iCloud is a non-Apple email address you can change that - please follow carefully the instructions here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudfaq2.html#6
If it's this non-Apple address which is compromised then changing the ID will solve that. If it's the @icloud.com address which is compromised then you cannot change that though you can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.) (New aliases can only be @icloud.com ones; @me.com addresses cannot now be created.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account or move it to another account.
More information on aliases here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a490a
However if you add an alias the original address will still function, so if you are getting a lot of spam it will still arrive.
You can get a completely new iCloud account simply by creating a new Apple ID at http://appleid.apple.com , for which you will need a new non-Apple address which has never been associated with an Apple ID.
You will need to sign out of the old account on all your devices and sign in with the new ID.
If none of this solves the problem and it is a security issue, go to https://getsupport.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Apple ID account Security'.

  • I cannot access my old email address anymore, however I have used it for my apple ID and now I want to delete it because the account has never been verified in the first place so my password for it doesn't work. What do I do?

I cannot access my old email address anymore, however I have used it for my apple ID and now I want to delete it because the account has never been verified in the first place so my password for it doesn't work. So when I want to download apps I have to sign in with apple id but I can't so I made a new one, However I can't seem to be able to delete the old one. What do I do?

You can't merge Apple IDs.  You also can't cancel (delete) and existing ID, you can only choose to stop using it.
If your old ID was compromised and you can no longer access it, you'll have to contact Apple for assistance.  Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services' at the bottom of the page. In the next page click 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID'. In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then then 'Apple ID account Security’.

  • How do I change my apple email address to my new email addres

Help how do I change my email address on my apple id

First, I did not see "Manage Account" so I used the "Manage ID" feature. I changed my Apple Email address and changed it's password. I receive a message that verified these changes. I then exited "Manage ID". To Test the new ID and Passwod, I returned to "Manage ID". As soon as Manage ID hit the screen, I saw my new email address briefly, and it was then changed to my old email address.
That is the crux of my problem: Apple uses my old ID as the default and in other areas like iCloud where I need to enter ID and PW, they give me the old ID as the defaul and they don't provide a way to change the id, only the pw.
I suspect I'm doing something wrong, but I need to have the old email address (ID) permanently removed. It's security has been compromised.
I appreciate any help you can provide.

  • Email address as a User in ADF application (part 2)

It is fairly normal these days to sign into into public-facing applications using an email address and password. However, people change email address periodically so you really want some sort of long-lived "users" entity of which the email address is an attribute that can be updated over time.
Of course we code all the work manually and log in against a database table (with an alternate/unique key of user ID), but really we should try to use the tools already provided and do this in a JEE standard way. Then if you have some sort of unique user ID as the principal then you get the benefit, for example, of using automatically populated audit columns in ADF BC.
This [recent discussion|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=3440934] talked about a similar requirement but in that instance the poster was happy to have the email address as the unique identifier.
I think there are two ways to go about this:
    1) you have a unique ID as principal but the login module has to do a lookup from email address to ID before the authentication call can be made (e.g. out to LDAP)
    2) you have the email address as the principal (there may be problems with the length/characters for some backend authentication providers) and then an additional attribute for the unique ID (which is subsequently used for auditing)
My initial feeling is that the first method ought to be the best compromise, but am I missing anything that is available "out of the box" as I think this requirement will become increasingly common?
    -Simon

    Hi Simon,
You can always add additional principals to the Subject during login, but keep the primay principal as the first one in the set.
If you write your own login module, you can fetch the user-id from the database/directory server based on
the email and add it to the Subject as the primary principal and then add the email as subsequent pruncipal; i.e.
if the System requires ID(PK) as the primary principal, then add ID as the Subject's first Principal and later add the email, and vice versa.
You can use both at any moment in the execution cycle; howewver, when you call
ejbContext.getCallerPrincipal() or ServletRequest.getCallerPrincipal()   you would only get the primary principal.
To retrieve all the principals a subject is carrying, you need to try
Set<Principal> principals= Subject.getSubject(AccessController.getContext()).getPrincipals();    and then iterate over the set to find the appropriate principal that you want.
Writing LoginModule is not so difficult as some put it; some time back Frank Nimphius has written a how-to article on this topic
which you can easily find by little googling.
    I hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Samba

I previously purchased several apps from the app store using my AppleID which was using my previous hotmail email address details. Now that hotmail is joined with Skype, I changed my email address to Gmail and then updated the information for my AppleID. Now when I view the purchase History using the new email
address to sign in to my AppleID, I cannot view the previous purchases which I had when I had a Hotmail account. I can only view recent purchases and furthermore I cannot print the list of items purchased. I have been able to download / update previous purchases and download them again by signing in with
my previous AppleID information but I want to know how I can transfer the information to my new account. Another problem I am having is that it shows there are 3 pages of purchases but I cannot view the 3rd page.

Someone in Australia was using my email address and when I changed email names to reinstall Itunes it only gives me states from Australia.  Is there some cache on my system that should be cleared or removed?

Good luck.    I have been trying to report to Apple Support about a Bogus Email I received today, which said I had made a purchase. Naturally, I was to cancel this bogus purchase by giving out personal details etc to them.
The real question is: how did they get my email as someone who had purchased from Itunes?. I cannot believe that ti si coincidence.
HAVE the Australian Apple IDs [where users have supplied their email addresses] been compromised?

  • I think my .mac account email got compromised... please help! :(

Can anyone advise me? On my mac mail program today, I saw an email in my inbox from an old contact, with just a link in the body, and rightly assumed it was spam or a virus. I clicked on the email to delete it but did not click on the link. Of course, shortly after I received an email from myself with a suspicious looking link in the body.
Has my account been compromised? I have changed my password and security questions. No one I know has received any odd emails from me and there's nothing in my sent box. What could this be? What can I do to be safe?
    Please help!

Don't worry about it. It's a common spammer's trick to make an email appear to come from the person it's been sent to, to to get round any spam filters. It's another common trick to forge someone's email address as the 'From' address on a whole bunch of spam messages - if they do it to you you will get a lot of bounced messages where the address they've sent to isn't valid. This is infuriating but usually stops after a bit as they move onto another victim.
There's no likelihood you've been hacked; just delete and ignore.

  • Starting to receive spam at multiple adobe email addresses

I own my own domain and have for a variety of reasons ended up with 3 different adobe IDs at this domain.  Starting about 3 days ago, I have started to get a great deal of (non-Adobe related) spam at these 3 addresses.  Of course, I don't use these addresses for anything else except Adobe. I have not received any increase in spam at other email addresses with this domain.
Has anyone heard whether or not Adobe has been hacked in any way and had their email addresses (Adobe IDs) compromised?

Maybe I thought the email notifying me of this was spam!
It seems as if I need to do more than change the password but change the email address associated with my Adobe ID so I don't receive this spam any longer.
    Thanks for the helpful reply.

  • HT201356 Why can't I change my "Apple ID and Primary Email Address" to an email address using an Apple domain?

I am trying to use an Apple EMail address as my primary email address and I am unable to change it. I previously had another "nonapple" address identified as my Apple ID and Primary Email address. Now I apparantly can only change it to another "non Apple" related email address. It seems stupid to have to go to Google and use thier email address to make a change.
    What gives.

Thanks Roger! I understand that it is an Apple ID already that makes sense. That "non Apple " address however, is compromised and I do not wish to use it anymore and will be shutting it down. I find it strange that I must only identify a "Non Apple" address as my "primary email address". I have an alias address on the account and I can sign in using it as my Apple ID. i don't see the Logic in forcing someone to use another email provider as your primary mail service. (I know I can set up alias's and use them under an Apple domain, but the primary email will still be there and I understand used for any account communications from Apple.) Any further comments on this situations?

  • Email address slipped.

    Hello all,
I set up a separate email account for most websites I regularly visit and Apple Discussions is no different. This allows me to share the address reasonably publicly but, if spam forces it, ditch the address and start afresh. Similarly, if a bank asks for a email address from me they get theirbankname(at)mrtotes(dot)co.uk. This also alerts me to who compromised my email address to the spammers so I can duly whinge to them.
Here I use the address applediscussions(at)mrtotes co uk and I set this in My Info some time ago (18 Jun 06). Today I noticed that this address had been removed from my public profile and another email address listed for all to view. This address is one I used to use some time ago and is the one I originally signed up to Discussions with. I've now changed it back to the custom one in MyInfo; so it should replicate through in the near future.
Any reason for this slippage of email address? Has anyone else noticed this?
    Thanks for your time.
    mrtotes

    Mark,
Thanks for the reply. I can assure you the only time I've changed my email address in My Info in recent months was to correct this error a few minutes before I posted.
I believe the system changed my address in My Info.
The desired email address has now propagated through the system and I am back in a correct state.
I actually use a different account for Apple Store/iTS etc so I'm a little baffled on this one. Still no real harm done.

  • ITunes using old email address

A few days back I received several warnings onscreen that my me.com security had been compromised. Rather than click on any links, I waited and later accessed my account. I changed the password but I keep getting warnings that my account has been disabled and my account has been locked and to visit iForgot to reset my password. I've done that THREE times now and my iPad STILL uses an old email address to sign in instead of the me.com address and I can't update anything. Same with my iPhone. Anyone else having these problems?
I DID check the statement for the credit card I use for the account and there were indeed 3 transactions I didn't recognize.
How do I at least change the old email address iTunes is using? Throughout my time with this iPad, and sometimes on the Mac, iTunes used my regular email addie to get into iTunes. Now it still uses it but doesn't recognize it. *FacePalm*
    Anybody??

Sign off her browswer session and click on "Forgot password click for assistance" link. Because you remember the emaiil address you used to register you can now just reset your password. When you say "don't want to loose the music I had" where are those tunes?

  • Bt email account compromised

    Hi
My primary email address was compromised while i was away last week saying i was stuck in Ukraine and needed money to get home, i got informed by a few friends texing or phoning me up. I swapped my password and phoned up asking to see if i could get rid of my primary email account and use my secondary address as my new primary. After being left on hold for 5 minutes the lady came back and said it would be sorted in the next 24 hours, but it still has not been done 4 days later.
Is it possible to swap primary accounts? A friend replied to the hackers and has got 2 Western Union accounts to send the money to, who do i report this to?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
For starters, in case you've not done so already, login to webmail and remove the forwarding email address. The hackers will have set this up, so that any emails to your address will go to them.
If you're not sure where to go, it's on Mail Options/Pop & Forwarding.
Wih regard your email address being compromised, you frankly need to consider how this has happened. Have you perhaps responded to a phish email, or given away some personal info - e.g. on Facebook or other social sites.
If your friend has got those 2 WU accounts, then I would inform WU and possibly the police.

  • Adobe sharing your email address with spammers

On 16th Jan 2009 I downloaded Adobe Flash player. To do this
I was required to provide an email address. As I can't stand spam,
I bought my own domain, and never provide the same email address
twice. Different person or company, different email address
provided. Yes, it's a bit more work, but you do get to find out who
is spamming, and who is selling your email address to spammers.
Okay, so today 26th March 2009, I get an email with following
    contents:
and one night she captured my soul
    kuavnaibezi.com
    ***** couple,how spend moments together....
The email was supposedly from "Chadwick Witten", with "from"
address of "[email protected]". The site being promoted sells
    viagra etc.
The email address that this spam was sent to was provided on
the adobe flash download site in a form, and nowhere else.
I expect that the above spam will also be sent to most of the
people in this forum. Now you know why it got to you.

Hate to break it to you, but that does not specifically
implicate Adobe in the leaking of that email address.
It means 1 of 2 things:
    1. As you say, Adobe shares
    OR
    2. That form has been compromised by a hacker.
    BUT
I never gave Adobe my email address to download the
flashPlayer - are you sure you were on the Adobe site and not a
    mocked one?
    || EDIT ||
Just confirmed my suspiction myself. Went to
    http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
(the official page) and all that I was presented with to get the
download was a button. Click the button, the install happens - no
    email to input.
