Email Alert Sound working only sometimes...

I just got my iPhone on Friday. I have the new mail alert switched to ON, but when the phone is in "sleep" mode, it doesn't make the sound, it just vibrates. I don't know if this is supposed to be normal, but I cant figure it out. All the other alerts seem to work fine. doesn't anyone know what is going on?
Thanks,
Bryan

I couldn't have asked that any better - I have been wondering the same thing since Thursday. I have looked around and can't figure it out either. Anyone with advice - I'd love some direction.

For each mail account, along with designating a primary SMTP server, you should be able to just turn off any and all other SMTP servers you have listed.  In that case, if there is a problem with comcast, the message send should just fail.
Also make sure your comcast smtp settings are correct (port, likely 587 but might be something else for comcast, whether you should be suing SSL or not, do you need authentication or not).
You might find the comcast forums useful for getting the settings right - I found this:
    http://forums.comcast.com/t5/E-Mail-and-Xfinity-Connect-Help/iphone-email/m-p/66 1151?view=by_date_ascending#M131151
The second poster notes, SSL should be on, authentication should be "password" and you should be using port 995

  • The text/email/alerts sound volume has gone right down on my iPhone 4

The text/email/alerts sound volume has gone right down on my iPhone 4, but the ringtone volume is still loud! Adjusting the volume in "Settings" only changes the ringer volume, I just can't find a way to increase the alerts volume! Help please!!!

    Hi ecsands,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
To "Choose alert sounds, adjust the alert volume, or turn vibrate on or off: Go to Settings > Sounds."
For more information, see Pg. 28 - 29 of the iPhone User Guide:

  • Audigy 2 ZS+Sounds works only if mediaplayer has played some video and you leave mediaplayer

sounds work only in movies with mediaplayer..i have installed ffdshow what pops up when i start videos..if i try to play winamp only, music plays only -2 second and stops but with mediaplayer on backround it will play mp3..
in mediaplayer sounddevice is audigy 2 but winamp directsound output is working only with primary sound device, if i change it to audigy 2 then the music stops
also tryed dxdiag and there sound page..it plays directsound test only if mediaplayer is on..without mediaplayer nothing but at music page it plays that test without mediaplayer on in backround
Even reinstalling WIN XP didn't help..same thing with audigy 2 cd full installion
Can anyone HELP me..And sorry about my bad english
    Motherboard is DFI Ultra-D

My guess is that your PowerDVD and WinDVD versions don't have ES support and you're using the programs to decode. This might be the case if you are configuring the programs for multiple speakers. If you are, try configuring them for SPDIF output, then make sure the soundcard is configured to decode AC3/DTS (it probably is). Does that help?

  • Email alert sound is sporadic

I'm on the 4S, and it seems that when I get an email (mobileme), only sometimes does it make an audible sound. And, sometimes the sound is louder at times than other times. Yes, I have sounds enabled, as well as vibrate, and I see the notification on the lockscreen, but sometimes no sound.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

No, they can't be changed presently. You can suggest this to Apple here:

  • Speech recognition working only sometimes

I've got an iPhone 4S. I use the speech recognition regularly in order to dictate a text message (in German, mostly).
    This has worked pretty well.
Usually, I dictate a sentence, then wait for the iPhone to transcribe it, then dictate the next sentence (i.e., click microphone button, dictate, cick "done").
But some time ago (can't remember when) it started to work only ever so often.
The first sentence usually works fine. The next ones don't work any more - it doesn't come back with a transcription :-(
When I dictate a few hours later another sentence(s), some procedure.
Sometimes, I get a few sentences in a row, but eventually, it stops working.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
What could I do to improve the speech recognition performance?
    Best,
    Gabriel.

  • Email alert sounds on my iPhone?

I just got an iPhone4S.  I have four email addresses.  Can each email address be set up with a separate alert sound?

    Sadly, you cannot.

  • Email Alert Sounds - Multiple Sounds

Can you assign different alert sounds for separate email accounts on the 4s?  I have two different email accounts on my iPhone.  I would like to set a different sound for each account.  Is this possible?

You used to be able to do this in a previous iOS version.  I know it used to be possible because my iPhone is set up that way right now.  As a matter of fact I just submitted a question asking how I can change the sound played for one of my accounts because the current sound is grating on my nerves.  Why did Apple take that function away?  I am hoping it was just an over sight and not intentional.  If it was intentional - that was a horrible decision on someone's part and they need to re-instate that function in the next iOS update.

  • Still no email alert sounds after re-install from scratch NASTY BUG

  • Email alerts not working since update

I no longer receive email alerts since my recent update and none of the basic quick fixes on the net have helped me out.... can anyone assist please?

I have the iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1.1 software update

  • Except for telephone ringtone, all alerts sound for only a few seconds following latest os update

After updating my Z10 to the latest operating system this week, I found that alerts for my BBM, Wotsapp, Sms and email only sound for about 8-10 seconds.  My ringtone for calls is played in full though.
All of the alerts used the correct tones (.mp3 tracks); nevertheless, I reset them by navigating each app to the correct alert.  But nothing changed.
Is there a way to resolve this please?  I need more time to hear an alert when not in a quiet environment.
Has anyone else had the same problem?
    Many thanks.

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

  • Add custom message/email alert sounds (not ringtones)

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to add custom sounds so that they can be used as message alerts? I can add ringtones without any problems but cannot seem to access sounds stored in 'My Ringtones' so that they can be used with alerts.
    Many thanks
Post relates to: Treo 500v (Vodafone)

Hi, many thanks for your response. I don't have the option to manage all of the sounds - if I access it via Start>Settings>Sounds, it lists the functions thus:
    Ring tone:
    Reminders:
    New email:
    New text message:
    etc
and each has a sideways scrolling list, but only the 'Ring tone' option shows up the custom audio files stored in 'My Ringtones'.
I am not sure how to search the OS to find sounds that are prefixed with "Alert", as if I can find the folder where they are stored, perhaps I can add more. Is there a Search function in Windows Mobile 6?

  • Pulseaudio detects the correct sound device only sometimes

I'm running Arch64 with KDE and Pulseaudio, and every time I reboot pulseaudio seems to detect a different device. (Getting the information from pavucontrol)
The correct one is "Analog Surround 5.1 Output + Analog Stereo Input".
But sometimes when I boot up it doesn't detect that one (so I can't select it) and detects "Analog Surround 5.0 Output + Analog Stereo Input", or sometimes it only lets me choose stereo sound.
When it detects the right thing it works great, but problem is it doesn't detect it all the time. I played around with it, and it seems it's more likely to detect the right thing if I stay at the KDE login screen for 10 or so seconds before logging in, so maybe the problem is pulseaudio isn't starting up soon enough?
I've checked the wiki and googled for similar problems but can't seem to find anything.
Anyone have any ideas? Or does anyone know how to make pulseaudio start up sooner?
    Thanks.

  • IPod touch email alert sound - any way to turn it OFF?

The "settings > sounds" is no longer available in 2.0 update, so can't figure out how to get it to stop beeping after it checks for and loads new mail. Any ideas? thanks J.

Okay, my iPod touch does the same thing. And one more more odd thing; when I receive an email while listening to music, the music volume dips, there's an odd sound in the background, and then the volume picks up again. This happens every time I receive an email. The only way I have figured to stop it at this point is to get into Settings, then General, then Sound Effects. If you turn off Sound Effects, I believe that you stop the audible mail alert. However, when you so that, you also turn off the clicky sounds when you type on the screen keyboard. Annoying.
