Email---and a bit info on iCal/Calendar info

My husband uses Microsoft Outlook on Windows at work.... and, I plan on getting an iPhone as I am addicted to Apple and work only on my MacBook laptop and want the ease of syncing with my iCal etc. (however, I only use Mail to SEND email as I like to not have my emails downloaded onto my computer since I want to keep as much space on my hard drive for photos and videos and be able to access my email other places without my email having already been downloaded onto a hard drive.)
I have some questions:
1. Would my husband easily be able to sync with his Microsoft Outlook as well as my iCal by hooking up his phone to his computer at work and my apple laptop?
2. Emailing.... is the only way to be alerted of a new email coming in & for it to pop up on your screen if it is downloaded onto your iPhone? Perhaps for me I should have it download, but just not delete off the server and just be conscientious of deleting it off my iPhone once read? Is that possible?
3. Emailing.... Is it possible to have your email "read" to you on the iPhone? I heard it was possible on the Blackberry.
4. I've heard email gets to a Blackberry a bit faster than an iPhone... My husband's main use of the phone will probably be accessing his email and his calendar. Is the iPhone right for him or should he be on a Blackberry since his office is on a Windows platform?

You can't sync with Outlook and iCal on one iPhone, assuming you are going through iTunes. The way to do it would be make the account on your Mac something like a Google account and then add the account to your phone. This would then wirelessly sync. You can also add Google Sync to the Outlook PC and this will sync that account to a second Google account. Your phone can then wirelessly sync to that second Google account as well, showing both account on your iPhone all the time.

An IMAP account or Google account will not download the e-mail and store it on your phone. The e-mail is stored on the Google server. If you read it on your phone it's marked as read on your PC or Mac. If you delete it from either your phone or PC/Mac, it will be deleted from your phone's Inbox, but will still be accessible in the Trash folder until that is emptied.
3. Emailing.... Is it possible to have your email "read" to you on the iPhone? I heard it was possible on the Blackberry.
Yes, using the accessibility settings on the iPhone you can have the phone read any text out loud by clicking on it, such as in the car.

If you have the iPhone set to Push your e-mails to you it's virtually instant so you won't notice any dealy. It's down to the e-mail server at your husband's office.

  • BAPI FM FOR READING EMAIL AND GIVING PARTNER INFO

    Hello All,
As I am new to SAP,
As per my requirement, I need to check my partner through email. User will give email and then I should get related partner details, here I cannot use  table. So i need FM for fetching partner by giving email and (  text ).
    Regards,
    Mithuunn.

Try BAPI_BUPA_SEARCH_2.  According to the documentation:
This function module enables you to search for business partners.
You can enter the telephone and fax number, the e-mail address and the address attributes 'country', 'region', 'city' and 'postal code' as search criteria. The business partner role and central business partner data, such as business partner number and the match code fields MC_NAME1 and MC_NAME2 constitute additional search criteria.
While the e-mail address and the URI address have to be entered in full, the address attributes and central data may contain wildcards (in the form of '*'). However, bear in mind that you must enter the country when using a wildcard to search for the telephone number, otherwise an error message is issued.
Read the Function Module Documentation for more...
    Hope this helps!

  • Once I have synced my Google calendar to iCal, can I turn off syncing and save all info in iCal?

I have been using Google Calendar, and syncing info from it to my Mac, iPad and iPhone. Now that all the info I originally entered into Google Calendar is on my Apple devices, can I turn off syncing it and save all the events, birthdays, etc. that were put into iCal up to this point? I have only been adding to my iCal via the Mac, iPad or iPhone for several months now, so it seems silly to keep using Google Calendar.

Unless you have backed up your iCal data, there is no way to retrieve the now missing data. To easily back up your calendar data, simply choose the Back up Database… option under the File menu in iCal.
Microsoft cautions users that deletion of the Entourage calendar in iCal—without first disabling the synchronization function with Entourage—will result in exactly the outcome you see.
If you have not subsequently synchronized with .Mac since you deleted the iCal calendar, you can selectively restore calendar files as a collection of calendars from .Mac by using the Reset Sync Data… option in the .Mac preference pane by launching System Preferences, pressing the .Mac icon then the Advanced tab, and waiting for your client list to update. Once you've done that, press the Reset Sync Data… button, choose Calendars from the drop down menu and pick the option to replace the data on your Macintosh with data stored on the .Mac servers.

This was EXACTLY what I needed about the purchases I made from my device. However, is there a way to re-download other ones you've made from a computer? Because I realized some of them were not just purchased from my device.
This is a picture of what it looks like now:
    http://tinypic.com/r/107quxu/7
As you can see, the stuff circled in red doesn't give me an option to download from Cloud Beta because it already says "downloaded".
any way to get around that?

When I receive appointments by email and accept them they go into the enourage "on my mac" ical calendar which is not synced with mobileme.  How do I change where appointments are put ?
Or how can I choose where the appointment is put ?
I use the mobileme sync services so the ical calendars that are synced are those in the "[email protected]" group.
    Please help !
    Nick

Actually you can't drag the appointment to ano calendar - its says "You can’t make changes to this invitation., Only the organiser can change this event"
Also if you double click on the received appointment and open the window the only calendars shown that you can select are the 'on my mac" ones, and not the sync'd ones.
    Any ideas welcome !!

My friend and I share an iCal calendar through iCloud.  Until recently, we received email notificiations anytime either of us made changes to exisiting calendar events or added new items to the calendar.  Does anyone know why these email notificiations stopped?

iCloud was experiencing problems with this a couple of days ago, where many users with shared calendars were getting email notifications even though their iCloud settings did not select to receive them.  Perhaps when they fixed this problem it reverted your settings to not receive email notifications.  Got to iCloud and check your setting for this.  If it still look correct, try turning off email notifications, save the change, then turn them back on again and save the change again.

  • How do I locate an iCal calendar from a backup and restore?

I need help in restoring a calendar that I deleted. I haven't used Time Machine since May, but I do use SuperDuper and have a clone of my hard drive backed up through yesterday. I am pretty sure the file is there somewhere, I just don't know where or how to get it back into iCal.
    Here is what happened...
*I use Mobile Me to sync my iMac (primary), MacBook and iPhone.*
A week ago I was trying to get my "Sports" calendar subscribed to my daughters old iMac. After reading the forums, the suggestions were to rename the calendar and try again, which I did. Changed it to "Kids Sports" and it seemed to allow her to subscribe, although updates/additions/deletions never made it to her computer. I left it alone at that point, knowing it still wasn't working properly but she had the brunt of her schedule.
Then sometime in the last few days I downloaded a schedule for my child's soccer tournament using my MacBook. It placed 3 games (with all the times, locations, etc) onto my MacBook, I thought wow, how cool, I didn't have to type all the info myself. I have never downloaded a calendar file before.
I noticed a little while later that those 3 games did not sync to my phone or iMac. I investigated and thought the time zone may have been the culprit, I can't remember what was listed but it wasn't a time zone, it was something like "undetermined" or along those lines (can't see it now because the calendar is gone), so I changed each of those 3 events to Central Time manually. Later they show up as 5 hours earlier than Central Time.
Yesterday I open up iCal in the MacBook and it's showing my "Personal" calendar with thousands of duplicate entries that are selected to "never" end, going back to around the year 2000. I have no idea how my "personal" calendar got this way, I haven't changed anything with it. Since I've been working on the "sports" calendar mess. I deleted the events in the "personal" calendar from October 1st going forward, of course everything prior to that is still there. About 4 events listed for everyday and to never end.
I also get a message that I have over 2200 entries that need to be reviewed in iCal before syncing last night. It's the calendar labeled "kids sports". I can see that in iCal I now have 2 sports calendars, "sports" and "kids sports", they both seem to have the same information in them, so I sync with the "kids sports" calendar to be deleted. WRONG answer! All that is left are the 3 events from the calendar I downloaded online, in the calendar labeled "sports".
Everything is already deleted from MobileMe as well.
Soooo, is it possible to pull the "kids sports" file from somewhere in the applications area and put it back where it belongs from my back up?
It seems like once a year I have a major issue with MobileMe duplicating, but I have yet to understand what I am doing wrong!
    Thanks,
    Sandy

    Anyone?
Let us get home from work first
I see my daughter's old iMac still has the "kids sports" calendar showing up with all the info still showing on her iCal, but she is subscribed to that calender versus syncing with it. I'm not sure if she has it set to manually refresh or automatically refresh.
If the calendar shows up fine on her computer the easiest way to get it cleanly is to get it from her computer if that is your goal. I'm assuming this is a calendar you created on your computer and then published and then she subscribed to it?
    _Go to her computer.
_Click on the calendar in question on the left hand side once.
_Go to File > Export > Export and save to the desktop.
_Bring the resulting .ics file to your computer.
_Delete the current kids sports calendar from your computer.
_Double-click the .ics file your brought over and add it to a "New Calendar"
_Now you can re-publish that calendar.
I don't understand why I can't use Superduper! to find the deleted calendar (deleted today and sync'd)
I'm afraid I've never used Superduper! so I can't offer any suggestion there. You may want to ask the maker of that software how to restore from their backups. I use Time Machine. However if SuperDuper! clones your hard drive as you say then all your calendars are stored in Your User > Library > Calendars on that backup.
You don't restore individual Calendars with iCal because it is one large database (in truth you can but it is very time consuming as every single event has it's own individual .ics file). So when you want your calendar from a certain restore point in time (when you made the last backup) you can follow these steps:
    _Quit iCal completely
_Go to Macintosh HD > Applications > iSync
    _Open iSync
_Go to iSync > Preferences and remove the check mark for "Enable syncing on this computer"
    _Reset Sync Services: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
_Remove Your User > Library > Calendars to the Trash
_Copy the Calendars folder from your backup and put it in Your User > Library where the old one used to be
_Launch iCal and check for your calendars
_If the calendars show up ok go back to iSync and re-check the box for "Enable syncing on this computer"
    Hope that helps.

  • HT1414 i had my boyfriend hook up and activate my new iphone, unaware that you had to put in many bits of imformation, like your email and whatnot to create an apple account. Well, everything worked fine and i thought nothing of it untill now after him an

...and so everything was working fine and dandy untill I ran into this small problem. My significangt other and I had a falling out and are no longer speaking to one another. He has a little bit different way of thinking than I do and was very controlling throughout our relationship. My iphone stopped working the other day and I found out that it apparently had been reported stolen. I was dumbfounded and I knew there had been a mistake but after i was given the instructions of what needed to be done to clear this up, this is where the problems began. I needed to get back into my device and was asked for my icloud account information. I wasnt real sure what it would be seeing as though i wasnt aware that i had one. i knew i had an email and of course i knew the password however that did not seem to work. i believe that what has happened is all kind of part of his controlling ways and that when he activated my phone for me he used all of his own information in case of a situation like this. He knows how badly he is getting to me right now with this and he knows i am unable to use my phone. he must have also been the one who reported it stolen knowing that he is also the one who knows how to reactivate it when it asks for what information it needs to do that. So for the moment, i am completely locked out of my own phone and can do nothing. i am livid with this whole thing and am getting more and more frustrated as i try to get this resolved. i need some help as to how i can start from scratch like it was when i brought it home from the store except this time i will do it all myself and put in my own personal information, no one elses so i NEVER run into anything similiar to this again. what do i do?

Sorry, without knowing the Apple ID/Password that was originally used to activate this phone, then there is no way to re-activate it, as you've found out.
Apple can't/won't help you. Your choice is to get this info, or you simply won't be able to re-activate this phone.
If you ex won't give it to you, then consult a lawyer.

  • My iCloud for windows is syncing email and notes with my MS Outlook 2013 on windows 8 but NOT contacts and calendar

Dear, I have downloaded and installed iCloud for windows and see that a user has been auto setup in my MS Outlookvia imap. I can now sync email and notes.I cannot sync icloud contacts and calendar with my MS Outlook, can you help me with this?

iCloud hosts the calendars on its server and your various computers read them from there. The protocol for doing this is called CalDAV.
Outlook for Mac has not been equipped with the programming for CalDAV and therefore cannot access iCloud calendars. Outlook for Windows evidently has and can.
This is something only Microsoft can rectify and you could send them feedback suggesting they do this with all convenient speed.
Outlook on a Mac can only access calendars living under 'On My Mac' and these cannot sync with iCloud. iCal can sync with iCloud provided you have 1-.7.2 or higher.

  • How to stop ical from sending email notifications for updates on my share ical calendar

Is it possible stop ical from sending email notifications for updates I make on my share ical calendar?
    Mac OSX 10.7.2
Very annoying for the person I am sharing my calendar with to get an email every time I change something.
I hope there is a way to stop the emails, but for the updates to still go on their calendar.
    Thanks

Great idea Lofty! thanks. If the person you are sharing a calendar with is a Yahoo Mail user, you only need to set up one filter (under Options - Mail Options - Filters) and route to Spam folder or a special folder for that purpose.
Add a filter with the following parameters:
Sender contains:    "Your First and Last Name" as it appears in the emails they are receiving
    Subject contains:  "Your First Name"
    Email body contains: "iCloud"
Don't need to match case on anything.
So far, only these unwanted emails are being routed to the folder I chose.
Hope that helps until Apple gets it's act together

  • Syncing to a new computer (and keeping iCal and Address Book info intact)

Well, after a few years my old iMac G5 finally died. Fortunately, I was able to grab all of the information off the hard drive and load it onto an external. I have a new iMac and I'm pretty happy.
However, I also have an 64GB iPod Touch that is currently synced to the computer that just died. Now, I want to sync this iPod to my new computer. Now, I have all of my music, photos, and apps and such on my new computer so I'm not trying to pull that off of my iPod. What I'm more concerned about is my iCal and Address Book. I use both often and have a lot of information in them. My new computer has none of this information.
So, what do I need to do sync my iPod with my new computer without losing my iCal and Address Book info? I still have access to the data on my old hard drive, but not the computer itself (if that helps). Hopefully I can get some help soon because I really want to try out OS4...
(Also, I want to make sure that I transferred my Apps correctly. I moved the files I found from my old iTunes folder onto my new iTunes. They seem to show up okay and have received updates but I wanted to make sure that when these apps synced to the iPod again that they would work okay. I'm most concerned about purchased apps and apps that have saved data like Plants Vs. Zombies).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod will be erased during the first sync.
Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
