Email Attachments Download as ".xla"

When I receive emailed Excel files via my web browser and I proceed to download them, they automaticly download as ".xla" instead of ".xls".
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Hello
I don't use XL.
If my memory is not too bad .xla is the name extension dedicated to extensions like VBA scripts.

  • Email attachments download as ashx for Microsoft Outlook, instead of jpg, pdf, doc, etc. Tried to fix in Preferences Applications but still doesn't work.

Using MacBook Pro running 10.5.8. Downloaded Firefox 8 on 11/9/11 and now Microsoft Outlook Web App 2010 downloads all email attachments as "attachment.ashx" instead of jpg, pdf, etc. This was not a problem with previous Firefox releases which I've been using for the past couple of years. Can open files if I edit the extension to the proper variety (ashx to jpg for example), but no longer initially automatically opens. Instead I first get a "can't open this file" message.  Attempted to fix in Firefox > Preferences > Applications by indicating the proper "Actions" for various "Content Types" but this had no effect. Chrome and Safari browsers still work properly. How can I fix this?

    Hi,
I'm sorry you are having this problem, here is another post about the same problem, where the cause of the problem is described:

A bug has been filed to track resolution of the issue here, because a true fix isn't yet available:

    I apologize for the inconvenience.

  • My email attachments download but don't open

My email attachments seem to download Ok but do not open. This problem has only happened in the last week or so. Can anyone help me?

Quit the mail app - restart your iPad - launch mail again and see if the attachments open.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Email Attachments/Downloads - Unsuccessful To Open

    Hi There!
When attempting to open attachments or downloads, an Adobe Reader window appears with, 'could not open because it's either not a supported file or it's corrupted'. I realize this must be an easy fix...how can it be resolved?
    Thanks!
    Rick

Don't open them from the email message; use the Save button where it shows the attachment and choose a location to save it. Then you can open it.

  • How to stop email attachments downloading?

    Hi
I have a POP3 account and regularly get large image files sent to me that I don't need to view until I get home. I do need to be able to check the rest of my emails though. Is there a way i can stop the iPhone downloading attachments, or place a size limit on any attachments it downloads.
If I'm abroad I'd still want data roaming because I'd like to check emails, but the bill for attachments will be horrific?
    Cheers
    Andy

  • Automatic email attachments download ?

    Hello everybody,
I just have a little question regarding email attachements on the iPhone.
The User Manual page 48 states that to download an email attachements you have to open the email and click on the attachment. Then the attachement download process starts.
However I have heard iPhone users saying that as soon as you open an email with an attachement in it the iPhone Mail application automatically starts to download it?
Could you please give me your feedback on that?
Thank you very much in advance

    no one ?
In fact I am travelling quite lot so this info is crucial for me as I do not want to have enormous EDGE consumption abroad?
Depending on the answer I will or willnot get an iPhone.
So If someone could be so kind to make this little test for me.
    Thank you so much

  • Why does Reader XI download email attachments to my Download folder before I am able to print them?

After last update my Reader XI automatically downloads email attachments (.pdf) to my Downloads folder. I then have to open that file in order to print it.  Before, the attachment would open in Reader and I could print from that direct.

Windows 8, Firefox email client.  What happens is that I click on attachment links in emails, which are .pdf files.  Instead of a menu allowing opening of the file with Reader, the file gets automatically downloaded to my Downloads folder.  I then have to open that folder, click on the file name... then Reader opens and I can view the file as well as print it from the Reader menu.

    Hi,
I have just got myself a new PC with Windows 7 (64bits). Using IE 8 (32 bit version), I am unable to download emails attachments from my normal Yahoo account ([email protected]). I have read somewhere that this could be due to the fact that Yahoo uses Norton as antivirus scan for email attachments, and that this could clash with BT NetProtectPlus (McAfee under the bonnet). Is there an option I need to switch off (and if so which one / how) in BT NetProtectPlus in order for me to be able to download attachments via Yahoo mail ?
Please note that this used to work on my previous PC (Windowx XP).
Thanks for your help. This is getting really frustrating !
    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
To be honest, there would not really be a clash between the products you've mentioned, because the online system using Norton is a server system and actioned before any download. There is possibly an option in BTNetprotect for "email scanning" or similar. This option can be turned off in the general case, since disk writes are covered anyway,
Have you tried another browser (e.g. Firefox, Opera or Safari) to see if the same conditions exist ?
Is there any particular error message or delay you are seeing ?

  • Why do I sometimes receive email attachments in the body of the email and how can I download and print them from there?

Why do I sometimes receive email attachments in the body of the email and how can I download and print from there?

To save attachments, a couple of options include: (1) control-click on attachment, select "Save Attachment...", (2)  Click on "Show Details" in the upper right corner of the message, which then gives you some attachment functions including "Save".

  • BESX SP3 MR6 - Email attachments are now ALWAYS Auto-download - not good with duplicate attachment names

Does anybody else see where email attachments are now always auto-download on all devices. The policy option was phased out in 5.0 but the default at that time was no (to auto-download). Now they all auto-download.
    1. PDF will not display because they must stay as attachment to render on Blackberry device. Says
“This attachment type cannot be viewed on your device”
    2. Phone messages attached as voicemail.wav - first one works, but since no longer the "Preview" option second says "Fielname exists - Rename?" Some devcies you can save and go back - others you can't.

Surely there's an expert on this forum who can help?

  • Name/type of downloaded email attachments is changed to attachment.ashx or something similar

I access an email account at the site below which provides Microsoft Outlook Web access. Since the last Firefox update to version 8.0, the true name/type of email attachments that I download is changed to attachment.ashx (or attachment1.ashx etc if there are several downloaded files. This is very inconvenient. Note that the problem does not exist when downloading attachments from aol.com. There is also no problem when I use IE as browser. Version/system details below are correct.

Outlook Web Access sends an illegal Content-Dispositon header to Firefox. This is no longer allowed in Firefox 8. Firefox 9 will have a workaround for this so that Microsoft has time to fix their software.<br>

  • Trouble downloading email attachments

Can anyone enlighten me as to why all of a sudden (about a couple of months ago) email attachments such as pictures, wmv files and slides won't open any more. It looks as if the files are downloading but instead of then opening and playing, nothing happens. The black slideshow box opens and indicates however many pictures there are, but it just goes round in circles and remains black. Grateful for any help.

    No luck unfortunately
I turned off all the security preferences I could (Filevault, waking the computer with password etc), except for the master password, and I still am having the same problem of my email attachments not downloading.
While using Stellar Phoenix Demo to try and recover my deleted files,I had to create a new account, one for myself and one for the Root. Could creating either of these possibly have an effect? I know how stupid that sounds but the separate accounts and the master password being set are the only two options left that I can't change and I'm still having problems downloading attachements.

  • I can't download my email attachments!!

Please help, I keep finding that a lot of my email attachments are not available to download.
All I see on the header of my email's are things like:
    2 Files
It only seems to be a problem with BT Yahoo. I use a Mac with OSX Lion. I have asked people to forward their attachments to another mail provider and the attachments come through fine.
    Many thanks in advance.

You seem to be yet another one sufferingthe attachment download problem. The helpdesk told me 10MB was the maximum size of attachment that could be downloaded to MSOutlook etc.
However, I have had connection fail with e-mails having smaller attachments, so I am not convinced that is the answer. The work round is to log on via BTYahoo, and move any e-mails with attachments to another folder, this should allow other e-mail to download OK.
How long before this problem is the subject of a BBC Watchdog programme?

  • Since i reinstalled OSX i am having trouble downloading my email attachments

since i reinstalled OSX i am having trouble downloading my email attachments. I have updated the system.

I am using a new Apple TV streaming box. I cannot seem to get any itunes movies to completely download. If they do completely download, it often takes a day or more. Even when the download is apparently completed, ATV will often re-authorize the movie purchase...and the download process begins again. That is about the time I send emails and get refunds. NETFLIZ works beaitifully - fast, easy to use, NEVER a problem. I use a MAC, iPad too but have not synced either with ATV.
Am I doing something wrong? This is incredibly frustrating for my family!!!!

  • Problems downloading larger email attachments over...

I do work on friends/family PCs and I've had a number of cases (on seperate machines) of emails with larger attachments (2mb+) not being downloaded correctly. The POP3 connection either drops before the email is fully downloaded or the email is downloaded, but not removed from the server meaning no other email will come through.
Is this a known issue with BT broadband's email service?

It's Yahoo! alright, and this is not the most serious problem that has occurred. BT's success in getting resolution has been slow and limited. Heaven knows what the service level agreement (if they got one) says.
I'd say not being able to recieve email is a pretty serious problem!
Sorry, clumsy wording. I was referring to the even more serious problem of not being able to connect with BT Yahoo! at all, and didn't intend to belittle your situation. They've had more than enough time to resolve all  the issues.
