Email attachments - hotmail (new pop3)

Hi,
I just switched my hotmail (using mail app on MacBook) from http to the new pop3 and it works fine.
The only problem I have is: I am unable to attach anything to my emails. I tried different docs (.doc, .jpeg, .pdf), but nothing works.
Any ideas? Help is much appreciated.
Cheers

just checked my mail and when I add the attachment it shows as ***kb of 25mb - so max you can send must be 25mb not the size of the attachment - it worked as well

  • New win 7 office 2010 upgrade won't open emailed attachments

after upgrading a system from vista/office xp to win7/office2010, emailed attachments wont open in word or excel("corrupt file error") from outlook mailbox. when retrieving the same emails from a webmail application, attachments wont open if retrieved
by IE, but will open properly if retreived by firefox. I suspect some kind of permissions/protection problem rather than the "corrupt file" error message I'm getting, but can't identify the source of the problem.

    Hi,
Thank you for contacting Outlook IT Pro Discussions Services.
From your description, I understand that after upgrading the system to Windows 7 and installing Office 2010, you are unable to open the attachments in Outlook, and
receive an error “corrupted file”. When trying to open the same email message in the Web Email application by using IE, the attachment cannot open. However, it can be open if you are using Firefox. If there is any misunderstanding, please feel
    free to let me know.
Before we go further, I would like to confirm if this issue only occurs with the Word or Excel attachment. Can you open other types of attachments, such as notepad?
If this issue only occurs with the Word or Excel file, this issue can occur when the file association of the Word or Excel file is wrong or missing. Let’s try
the steps below to re-associate the Word and Excel file:
    =============
    1.
    Please go to
    Start \Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations.
    2.
Locate the files .doc, .docm,.docx, .dot, .dotm, check if there are associated with
Microsoft Word. If not, highlight the file and click the
Change Program button. Choose Microsoft Word from the list. If you are unable to see Microsoft Word from the list, click the
Browse button. Browse to the folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14, and choose
    Word.exe.
    3.
    Click
    OK to save the settings.
    4.
Similar steps to locate the files .xls, .xlsm, .xlsx. Make sure they are associated to Microsoft Excel.
Check the results again. If the problem persists, please also reset the IE settings and set IE as the default browser.
    ============
    1.
    Start Internet Explorer.
    2.
    On the
    Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    3.
    On the
    Advanced tab, click Reset.
    4.
    In the
Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset to confirm.
    5.
    Click the
Program tab. Then, click Set your default programs.
    6.
    Highlight
    Internet Explorer on the left.
    7.
    Click
    Set this program as default.
    8.
    Click
    OK.
Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for
you, please feel free to let me know.

  • I Can't Setup My Hotmail\Outlook POP3 Account Successfully

I Can't Setup My Hotmail\Outlook POP3 Account Successfully so PLEASE Tell Me How Do I Setup My Hotmail\Outlook POP3 Account Successfully ?

For POP access, you have to enable it in your Hotmail account settings (accessed via the Hotmail website), but for IMAP access, the recommended setup, see this article:
    http://www.ghacks.net/2013/09/14/access-outlook-com-email-accounts-using-imap/
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Hotmail
TB may default to IMAP when you launch the account setup wizard (File/New/Existing Mail Account), so if you wish to have POP access, click on the Manual config. button after you enter your account credentials, and select POP.

  • Trouble opening email attachments sent from another mac

When I try to open email attachments from my new email acct at Charter.net they come out as giberish! Charter is unable to help me. They have no idea why this is happening. with my hotmail acct I can open them inconsistantly. I am sending things from my work mac to my mac at home. Both use system 10 and both computers have Word so that can't be the problem. I also make sure that the attachments say .doc in the title of the attachment. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

DOS 8.3 refers back to the pre-Windows days when file names were restricted to no more than 8 characters in the filename plus a three letter extension that identified the type of file; e.g., filename.doc for Word documents. A surprisingly amount of Windows code is still based on DOS, and some programs still behave oddly if you try using longer filenames or filenames with spaces or non-standard (letters and numbers and underscores) in the name.
On the Entourage machines, check Preferences> Compose and make sure the 'encode for' pull-down fiels reads 'any computer (Apple Double)'.
Your correct that Hotmail is rather well-known for mungling attachments sent from Macs. For that matter, it's prone to mungle attachments sent from or read by any browser other than Internet Explorer for Windows (e.g., if you use Firefox on Windows, Hotmail will corrupt the mail's formatting). It's possible to have either Safari or Firefox to pretend to be IE for Windows but I've never found that to actually help with Hotmail, probablly because it's checking for ActiveX which is Windows only. I have no knowledge of charter.net or how it's webmail works. One thing that may help with either email at home: try saving the attachments to the hard drive and then open the program you want to use and open the saved file from within the program (as opposed to trying to open the attachment from within the webmail browser or saving the attachment to disk and double-clicking it on the desktop to launch the associated program).
One thing that might work well is to bypass the webamil approach at home and use a stand-alone mail program, such as Apple's own Mail program in the applications folder or the free download of Mozilla Thunderbird. You mention using Entourage at school; that suggests you'd qualify for the student-teacher version of Microsoft Office, which would let you use Entourage at home as well (that's essentially my home Mac situation; Entourage-to-Entourage works quite well).

  • Cannot send email via Hotmail through port 587 with Secure Connection (SSL) set

Something is blocking my attempts to send email (with Outlook Express) via my hotmail.com account. The error I receive is as follows:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
When Hotmail.com first changed over to a POP3 server (Sept 2009), I could send emails through them using port 587, which they require. But then something happened, with no changes on my part, to disable my ability to send.
I have checked and rechecked my Outlook Express account settings. I can send email through another third-party mail account (at 1&1 Internet.com) using port 587, which does not require setting SSL to yes. I can also ping the Hotmail SMTP server via port 587 and receive a response from it.
I connect to Verizon DSL via a Westell 327W modem/router. Clearly it is not blocking port 587 without SSL. Does it have the capability to block SSL traffic? Or is the Verizon server the culprit, not allowing emails to be sent via Hotmail.com?
Two different computers on my LAN have the same problem sending emails via Hotmail.com. I have tried everything the Hotmail people have suggested; at this point they think it is an ISP problem, hence this post. This problem doesn't make sense to me and is driving me crazy. Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks.

You can still have your reply address set to your hotmail address. And you don't have to really remember to do anything. Configure your client for the HOTMAIL account with Verizon's outgoing server. It will automatically send via Verizon. You don't reveal your verizon.net address, you are just using their server to transmit.

  • Cannot save email attachments to folders in Finder

Ughhh, I'm getting a sinking feeling.... It's happening again.
Ever since I installed Mavericks back in June of 2014, I've had nothing but problems. In fact, the actual install (perhaps coincidentally, I'm told) caused my hard drive to fail in mid-install, even though it was only 2 years old. Apple Care cheerfully paid for the new hard drive and installed Mavericks for me, but ever since my previously fast, responsive computer has been incredibly sluggish, lots of beach balls, tons of problems with things like the one I'm experiencing again today -- can't save email attachments to folders in Finder (the computer behaves as if the save was successful, but when you go look in the Finder later, you discover it was never saved anywhere). Also, I can't create any new folders because it says the location is Read Only (I've tried various file locations -- same result).
Since June, after countless visits to the Genius Bar and all sorts of attempts to fix the accumulating problems, the Genius erased my User Library last December in a final attempt to get the computer to work right before my Apple Care ran out. It was one of many attempted fixes that would actually work pretty well for a few days, but then the problems would accumulate again.
Last week, Word kept crashing. I took it to the Genius Bar and the June 2014 hard drive failed a diagnostic test. Even though Apple Care had expired, Apple replaced the hard drive for free because they could see the long list of notes from all of the visits I had made to the Genius Bar. I restored everything and, although it seemed to be working okay at first, I was still getting a lot of beach balls. Sometimes it can take 30 seconds to open a Word document, even if the application is already open. (FYI, I don't keep a lot of applications running.) But at least it was working. Today, however, I'm seeing some of the old familiar problems creep in. I cannot save email attachments to a folder. I cannot create new folders. I've tried restarting the computer multiple times. All of this was working fine as recently as yesterday.
    1. Am I doing something that is causing this? This is my sixth Mac and I've never a serious problem with ANY of the others (including one that I bought USED) and I use them at least 8 hours a day. As far as I know, I'm doing everything the same way I've always done it.
    2. Has anyone else encountered this "Read Only" problem and do you know how to fix it? I'm starting to think this is just a bad computer and that this is a symptoms that something is very wrong again.
    3. Do I simply need to start over with a brand new computer (although, frankly, I'm scared to restore everything onto a new computer and risk "infecting" the new one). This is my work computer and I am self-employed, so I really cannot afford to be running to the Genius Bar once or twice a week any longer. Any advice? It's a MacBook Pro that I bought in December 2011. According to the stats, I'm using 354.68 GB of my 499.25 GB storage capacity.
Sorry this is so long. Just trying to give the context.

  • How to  delete email attachments from server

    Hi,
I created an a CF template for sending e-mail which includes
attachments. It has been tested on my dev box and is functioning
fine as the attachment upload to a designated directory on the
server. I would like the attachments to be purged once the e-mail
has been forwarded to the recipent.
In Macromedia's ColdFuision 7MX web application construction

delete the file when the user ends their session.
I am not sure how to write this to fit the code I am using.

The tutorial only explains how to delete the attachment when
    the recipient checks there mail
    in the POP server.
Assuming that the sender is in a session would the code be
written to delete the attached file from the directory on
the server one the e-mail is sent.
Can someone explain how to automatically delete email
attachments from a designated directory or provide me with the code
that would handle this after an email is sent with attachment.
    Thanks,
    Tony

I don't know why your dos code didn't run. It could be
addressing. My limited experience with cfdirectory/cffile/cfexecute
is to type out the complete path at least once.
    Good books?
Hard to say, depends on what else you are new at. If you are
new to html, then htmlgoodies.com has good tutorials. So does
webmonkey.com. If you have trouble with sql, I have heard good
things about the SAMS book, Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes by Ben
Forta. I learned javascript by buying the book Teach Yourself
Javascript in 24 Hours. The O'Reilly books are also good. I learned
awk with one of those books.
Glad you liked the fish pics. The camera is specified on most
of the pages. If it says Reefmaster, I used an external strobe. If
it says Sony I either used the camera flash only or natural light.
By the way, that is not a Cold Fusion site. It's strictly html and
    javascript.

  • My email attachments won't open after ios7.1 update on 4s! HELP!

    I recently updated my 4s to the new software, iOS7.1. Since then, my Word document email attachements are not opening. When I try and open attachments I just get a message saying "OfficeOpen XML word processing document" on a blank screen. All attachments were opening before the update... so I was wondering;
Is my phone "too old" for this software? (Phone is only 16 months old)
Are the attachments emailed to me, in the wrong format for me to open them?
Or is there something I need to change in the settings so I can open email attachments????
    Please help!
I rely on my phone to email on the run for my job so desperatly need to get it working again!
I also have an iPad2 and have updated it to the new iOS7.1 software and email attachments and everything else is working fine.... just my phone isn't!
Thank you all so much for your help.

I have same problem when I upgraded to ios 7.1.  I have done the test that by sending a attachment both in .doc format and docx format but still cannot open the attachement and the message said "OfficeOpen XML word processing document", I have tested another iPhone in ISO 7 which don't have any issues to open.
I don't why Apple still don't doing something to solve it.  We are well known that iPhone / iPad is not only for home use, we are use this everyday for work.  Please kindly give us solution.

    Hi,
I have just got myself a new PC with Windows 7 (64bits). Using IE 8 (32 bit version), I am unable to download emails attachments from my normal Yahoo account ([email protected]). I have read somewhere that this could be due to the fact that Yahoo uses Norton as antivirus scan for email attachments, and that this could clash with BT NetProtectPlus (McAfee under the bonnet). Is there an option I need to switch off (and if so which one / how) in BT NetProtectPlus in order for me to be able to download attachments via Yahoo mail ?
Please note that this used to work on my previous PC (Windowx XP).
Thanks for your help. This is getting really frustrating !
    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
To be honest, there would not really be a clash between the products you've mentioned, because the online system using Norton is a server system and actioned before any download. There is possibly an option in BTNetprotect for "email scanning" or similar. This option can be turned off in the general case, since disk writes are covered anyway,
Have you tried another browser (e.g. Firefox, Opera or Safari) to see if the same conditions exist ?
Is there any particular error message or delay you are seeing ?

  • Why are my email attachments showing as being attached but the recipient does not get an attachment?

I currently use the Mail program on my MacBook Pro and am having issues with email attachments. I have read through a few forums and I seem to be doing everything correctly but I am still having problems. I have 3 different email accounts that I have set up through Mail and all 3 are having problems. The steps I take when attaching any document is to compose to a new email, click the paperclip icon or go through the File drop down menu and select Attach Files. With either option, I can see my document inside of my message but when I send the email the recipient only receives the text portion of th email, not any attachment. When I go to my Sent mailbox and find the email I sent, I can see the document within the message but there is not a paperclip icon next to the recipients name indicating that there was an attachment sent.
I have made sure that 'Always send windows-friendly attachments' is selected, and I have tried sending them with 'Always attach at end of message' selected and with it unselected but there has been no difference. I have only noticed this within the last 2 months. Anyone have any advice?

The issue with not seeing the paper clip in your Sent mailbox seems to be totally removed from anything related to recipients, and is something to perhaps yet be addresses in a future update.
To the issue with recipients, I would guess the recipient is using Outlook or Outlook Express, and the message is being sent in Rich Text (a form of HTML) and the recipient either cannot open the attachment, or they have an over zealous anti-virus filter that is removing the attachment out of fear caused by the presence of HTML.
More info about the recipient's platform, please.

  • Saving email attachments in os2.1

It seems that saving email attachments such as pdf's is slightly different in 0s2.1....I now have to touch and hold a downloaded attachment for a second or so, then the save/open option appears.  In, previous versions, you just had to tap the attachment to save and open.  Now if you tap a pdf attachment, it immediately opens as a temporary file in adobe reader.
Probably a better way now, but frustrating to have to learn it without any guideline.
Also, downloading attachments seems flakey....sometimes the spinning circle sits for many minutes before the download starts.
I am continuing to find the whole native email experience to be less than desireable.
The email duplication thread describes a number of user experiences from before and after the upgrade.  The good news is that the duplication has been solved, but the red x and difficulty to reliably send emails continues.

There is an even better way. If you have the dropbox or CloudOn App (both free for Ipad) you can always touch for two seconds the attachement in the email (PDF, Office doc) and select "Open In", you can then open in either of these Apps and save them to the Cloud. I use dropbox and it created a default folder called uploads where all my documents from email are saved...very neat.
    Hope this helps!

  • Email Attachments Become Corrupted When Moved to a Different Mailbox

I believe that I have stumbled upon a bug in Mountain Lion mail.  Here is the set up:
    Server:
Mac OS X Mountain Lion Server 10.8.2 running IMAP email service
    Clients:
An assortment of Macs all running Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 using Mail as the mail client over IMAP.
    Issue:
Ever since upgrading all company Macs to Mountain Lion we have recieved complaints from people that email attachments are occationaly becoming currupted once moved to other mailboxes such as the Trash or even other IMAP folders.  The symptom has not been observed to occur with other mail services such as gMail or iCloud but rather seems to be isolated to how Mountain Lion Mail handles moved emails with attachments on an IMAP service hosted on Mountain Lion server.  The issue also seems to be related to PDF attachments only.  We could not get the issue to reoccur with say a Pages document.  The issue also does not always occur but occurs about 90% of the time.
The email essentially goes from looking normal in the inbox to containing this text in it after it has been moved to another mailbox (obviously the real thing is like a hundred pages long):

Now if that same email, now moved into a new mailbox, apearing corupted to the Mac Mail client, is viewed from say an iPhone or iPad, the attachment appears normal.  If a new Mac client is set up to read that email account that email also appears normal.  This would indicate that issue does not seem to be occuring server side but however seems related to a cashe issue with the Mail client.
    Temporary Fix:
Now this is not a good fix but deleting the entire /User/Library/Mail folder and forcing Mail to completely reconnect to the IMAP server and redownload all headers and attachements fixes the issue.  However this only fixes the emails that once appeard corrupted to the client.  Any new emails moved around will continue to get corupted.  Syncronizing the mailbox does nothing to rectify the issue.
    Plee for help:
Obviosuly this is a serious issue and must be rectified.  We are using the most standard and Mac friendly/default set up possible (even a Mac server).  Has anyone expereinced this issue or want to venture a guess on how to fix it?  Does it seem like a bug in the Mail client to you?  Any ideas???
    I really apprecaite the help.

Oh man! So they say "We know this is a bug and we can't fix it since Tiger" ????? This is Apple with an army of developers and they can't fix this annoying issue???? WHAT???? I think this is a not a day more problem to fix and their professional OS X Server is affected by this problem as well and they don't fix it... their own software... what a customer care!!!
Anyway it sounds ******** and the solution is the same category... if you have only one mail in the mailbox and move to an other on a certain type of server it's getting corrupted, but the rebuild process works and when you move back it will be corrupted again! They should fix this but it looks like they will never fix it... it's a shame from a big company which sells premium products.
So if you still in contact with an Apple technician and they're opened I can provide both of the server platform when the problem can be proofed. (one where the sync is ok and one where it isn't and only with one mail in it ) Please contact me and I can help!
You can try other mail softwares and they can handle the imap protocol without major problems. I tried the following ones:
    - Postbox
    - Thunderbird
    - Sparrow
    - Mail Mate
Both works very wall but any of them is so integrated as the mail app with osx. Unfortunately if you live in the apple ecosystem and own more than one mac computer you will stuck with the apple one with all of its bugs.
...since Tiger... I can't get over it...
Sorry guys I getting angry when I hear this kind of stories...

  • Opening email attachments in Word

    Hi
I want to buy the Curve 8520. I am new to blackberries, so forgive me if this is a stupid question.
Will i be able to  open email attachments that are word docs? Or will i need to buy a software product to facilitate this?
I just bought another phone and was told in the shop it would open Word docs - which it doesn't!
With the blackberry, i don't want to sign up to a contract to then find i can't open Word Docs
    Thanks in advance

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I cannot say 100% what happens at this moment and with every carrier/reseller, but normally BB's come pre-installed with the Standard Edition of Desktop-To-Go, which includes an app to render Word docs. Check with your seller and see if that app is included.
    Good luck!

  • Opening email attachments created by microsoft

first week with ibook going smooth but minor problem can't open email attachments created by microsoft word or excel, any suggestions would help

    camryn,
Since your iBook is new you may have a trial version of Pages and Office 2004. It may have also come with AppleWorks.
    Look in your Applications folder.
If you have any of these programs control click on the attachment and >open with, Navigate to said program.
Pages does agood job of opening Word files, AppleWorks is IMHO not so good. I'm not sure about the Excel files, maybe someone else can offer more on that.
You can go here to check other alterntives:

  • I can read but I cannot respond to emails in Hotmail

    Hi everyone,
I am really hoping someone can help me out. On my MacBook Pro 13 inch that I bought new in 2009, I cannot respond or write emails in Hotmail.
I can, however, read my email in hotmail, but cannot respond. I have no idea why, and would be forever grateful if someone can help me solve the mystery.
I can read and respond to emails in gmail, so I have no idea why hotmail is giving me a problem on my MacBook Pro
PS: I don't know the operating system, but it's the 13 inch MacBookPro (silver that I bought new from the Mac store last year).
    Thank you!
    Laura

It may be that Hotmail doesn't fully support the web browser you are currently using. Safari comes built-in on all Macs, but you can also try Firefox.
