Email attachments- Why so BIG!!??

Maybe someone can help me- I've tried everything I know. When I try to attach a photo from my iphoto library to an email, the photo seems to get enlarged by about 500% when it's received. In my library the photos show as 4 X 6. What am I doing wrong? BTW I use my isp' "webmail" option for email stuff, not Apple's email. Thanksfor any help/advice!

You have absolutely no control over how the receivers email is displayed. None whatever.
What is happening - I guess - is that the photo is displaying at 72 dpi rather than, say 300 dpi. The other person is going to have to correct that for themselves.

Why is it that Apple systems have such a difficult time with decoding email attachments sent from PC systems? This has been going on for YEARS. I cannot tell you the number of times I get calls from poor Apple users who say they didn't get my attachment but they got a Mime or winmail.dat file instead. If the vast majority of computer users in this world are on PC's, you would think that Apple might figure out how to decode attacments from PC's.....NO???
What is the problem here? Anyone else frustrated with this crap?

It's not the senders e-mail program ...
it's most likely their ISP's mail server software.
Oh yes this is caused entirely and exclusively by the sender's email client - in this case Winblows Outlook and the oh so wonderful and secure Microslop Exchange Server.
This is an Outlook bug or an intended "feature" that Microslop has known about for a very long time but has chosen not to do fix or do anything about - just like all the other poorly written Microslop software garbage.

The sender of the message must use HTML or Plain Text for message composition (preferably Plain Text) and not RTF when the sender uses Outlook as their email client.
If everyone used Plain Text for message composition, the majority if not all problems experienced with the exchange of email would be eliminated.
Microslop also wrought HTML for message composition upon the internet which came back to haunt Winblows users in a big way and still does to this day.

To save attachments, a couple of options include: (1) control-click on attachment, select "Save Attachment...", (2) Click on "Show Details" in the upper right corner of the message, which then gives you some attachment functions including "Save".

I've been on here for hours trying to figure out where the directions are for this - there's never an answer but finally found it. Go to Tools, Options, Applications and then Help. That's where the instructions are for Firefox File Handling - it helped me alot, although I still like the way IE opens attachments better. I am getting so I really like Firefox though, especially how incredibly fast it is. :)

Check Setting the location for attachments that you open in Mail.
The default location is the downloads folder located at Home/Library/Mail/Downloads which can be changed per the following.
1. Choose Mail > Preferences and click General.
2. Choose Other from the Downloads Folder pop-up menu and select a location.
Sounds like you selected the Desktop as the default location.

Why does Reader XI download email attachments to my Download folder before I am able to print them?

After last update my Reader XI automatically downloads email attachments (.pdf) to my Downloads folder. I then have to open that file in order to print it. Before, the attachment would open in Reader and I could print from that direct.

Windows 8, Firefox email client. What happens is that I click on attachment links in emails, which are .pdf files. Instead of a menu allowing opening of the file with Reader, the file gets automatically downloaded to my Downloads folder. I then have to open that folder, click on the file name... then Reader opens and I can view the file as well as print it from the Reader menu.

Normally on my iPhone I'm able to simply click on the PDF attachment at the bottom of an email and it opens for me to read but I just got an iPad and it doesn't seem to do that. When I click attachments in my email nothing happens. But for instance when I try to open attachments I have saved in Dropbox they open perfectly fine.

Well something has changed since IOS came out. I can't open email attachments anymore in all apps.
Up until say 3 weeks ago I would tap on an email attachment (a PDF) and a menu of apps would appear. Normally I would choose Goodreader or iBooks to open the PDF. No problems. My iPad2 would switch to the app and open the PDF.
Now that IOS 6 is out when you touch the email attachment icons appear. Goodreader and iBook show up. But when i touch either one of these icons nothing happens. It won't switch to the app and open the PDF anymore.
Two other things. I do have other apps that appear such as PDFSplicer. If i choose it the iPad2 switches to that app and opens the PDF. It's only Goodreader and iBook that won't work anymore.
second, I went to my local Apple store and talked to the guys at the genius bar. I demonstrated the problem to them. They said it looks like a bug and suggested I send a bug report to apple. Never heard back from them.

Why are my email attachments showing as being attached but the recipient does not get an attachment?

I currently use the Mail program on my MacBook Pro and am having issues with email attachments. I have read through a few forums and I seem to be doing everything correctly but I am still having problems. I have 3 different email accounts that I have set up through Mail and all 3 are having problems. The steps I take when attaching any document is to compose to a new email, click the paperclip icon or go through the File drop down menu and select Attach Files. With either option, I can see my document inside of my message but when I send the email the recipient only receives the text portion of th email, not any attachment. When I go to my Sent mailbox and find the email I sent, I can see the document within the message but there is not a paperclip icon next to the recipients name indicating that there was an attachment sent.
I have made sure that 'Always send windows-friendly attachments' is selected, and I have tried sending them with 'Always attach at end of message' selected and with it unselected but there has been no difference. I have only noticed this within the last 2 months. Anyone have any advice?

The issue with not seeing the paper clip in your Sent mailbox seems to be totally removed from anything related to recipients, and is something to perhaps yet be addresses in a future update.
To the issue with recipients, I would guess the recipient is using Outlook or Outlook Express, and the message is being sent in Rich Text (a form of HTML) and the recipient either cannot open the attachment, or they have an over zealous anti-virus filter that is removing the attachment out of fear caused by the presence of HTML.
More info about the recipient's platform, please.

Why does my iphone not open email attachments?

Iphone 4S IOS6.1.3 has stopped letting me open email attachments such as Word, Exel and PDF. Instead it throws up a dialogue asking me to open it in another application (like 'Mail' ironically). Other Word docs present themselves as 'winmail.dat' format attachments. what the **** is going on? I need the iphone to read office attachments like it used to. I have 'reset' iphone using power and home buttons. Made no difference.
Anyone know the answer?

I was able to open email attachments before the io7 update, now I can't open any attachments in Word. I can open Excel but not Word. I've gone back to try and view Word attachments that I had opened and viewed with no issue prior to the update and now I can't open them.

How to delete email attachments from server

Hi,
I created an a CF template for sending e-mail which includes
attachments. It has been tested on my dev box and is functioning
fine as the attachment upload to a designated directory on the
server. I would like the attachments to be purged once the e-mail
has been forwarded to the recipent.
In Macromedia's ColdFuision 7MX web application construction
book page 913 "Interacting with Email" there is a CFC that will
delete the file when the user ends their session.
I am not sure how to write this to fit the code I am using.

The tutorial only explains how to delete the attachment when
the recipient checks there mail
in the POP server.
Assuming that the sender is in a session would the code be
written to delete the attached file from the directory on
the server one the e-mail is sent.
Can someone explain how to automatically delete email
attachments from a designated directory or provide me with the code
that would handle this after an email is sent with attachment.

I don't know why your dos code didn't run. It could be
addressing. My limited experience with cfdirectory/cffile/cfexecute
is to type out the complete path at least once.

Hard to say, depends on what else you are new at. If you are
new to html, then htmlgoodies.com has good tutorials. So does
webmonkey.com. If you have trouble with sql, I have heard good
things about the SAMS book, Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes by Ben
Forta. I learned javascript by buying the book Teach Yourself
Javascript in 24 Hours. The O'Reilly books are also good. I learned
awk with one of those books.
Glad you liked the fish pics. The camera is specified on most
of the pages. If it says Reefmaster, I used an external strobe. If
it says Sony I either used the camera flash only or natural light.
By the way, that is not a Cold Fusion site. It's strictly html and
javascript.
