Email authentication fails consistently

I use the built in email client to access my AOL accounts (2). Each has a different password. The password has not changed and I can successfully log in to AOL and access both accounts. Almost on a daily basis I receive a login failed, could not be authenticated on one email acct or the other (sometimes both).  If I re-enter the "unchanged" password, it connects and I get my mail. More recently, this happens way too often.
Any thoughts.

Did you setup those accounts under the AOL option? Try removing them and adding again under the "Other" email account option. This way you can manually enter and verify the email server settings for the accounts.

  • Email authentication fail

    We have 2 email sub-accounts to our VOL account.  We access these via separate instances of Eudora, as separate 'users' under Windows.  Per the latest VZ notification, I changed the email settings for both users, to 'pop.verizon.net', 'smtp.verizon.net', and (SSL) 'required, alt port'.  When I went to get email, I had to re-enter the password.  (I used the 'master account' password.)
    On one sub-account, this worked fine.
    On the other, we get an "authentication failed" error.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  In particular, can a sub-account have a different password than the root account?  (My records don't show that we did that, but things can be forgotten.)
    Thanks,
    George

    There is no relationship among passwords for either the primary account or any of the nine allowed subaccounts.  In many cases it is useful to have the same passwords, of course, but there is no requirement to do so.

  • Cannot access my email, Sending of password did not succeed. Authentication failed.

    Was able to use my Thunderbird Mozilla email on both computers and then suddenly on both I rc'd msg that, "Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server incoming Verizon.net responded Authentication Failed".
    On the computer that I use all the time, I played around with it and all of a sudden it was "fixed". No idea what I did.
    Today I turned on the other computer that is only used by the Grandkids for games, etc., and received the same msg and decided it was time to fix but am not able to figure out how.

    Best starting point is to remove all stored passwords for the affected accounts.

  • ColdFusionMX7 Email - Error "Authentication Failed"

    We are running Exchange 2007 and I am trying to setup the email portion of ColdFusion.  Under the admin tool "Mail" settings I am setting my account up as:
    user:pass@smtpserverip
    I have alos tried:
    domain\user:pass@smtpserverip
    I can smtp to my mail server from that server with no issues.  The mail log gives an error:
    "Error","scheduler-2","11/20/09", "12:58:18",,"Authentication Failed"

    Suppose my username at the mail server is 01BKBK02. The mail server is mail.bkbkInc.com, internal IP 193.68.95.122, public IP 95.96.46.152
    Then these login names are possible:
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    However, the second one is only possible if the mail server is within your private network.

  • Email authentication problem on only some of Verizon's servers

    I use Eudora 6.2.4 on an iMac Core 2 Duo 2.0 20" (Al) Macintosh running OX 10.5.5.  Like many others (see one thread each under FiOS Internet and High Speed Internet and Dialup), since about mid-November, I have been receiving intermittent (about 10% of the time) authentication errors when Eudora checks for new mail.  I have 3 VZ e-mail accounts and one at my employer; the errors occur only on the VZ accounts.
    I've used the freeware app Eavesdrop (http://code.google.com/p/eavesdrop/) to observe the TCP conversations between Eudora and the server. The VZ server offers SASL CRAM-MD5 PLAIN, and Eudora uses CRAM-MD5.  I see the challenge from the server, Eudora's response, and the server's authentication-failure response.  Since the response is hashed, I have no way of telling if Eudora is sending the correct response, but it works most of the time.  (After it fails, Eudora then assumes its stored password is NG, discards it, and prompts me for it on the next mail-check, which is just a bit annoying.)

    -ERR [AUTH] Authentication failed
    You'll notice that the VZ server identifies itself at the onset of each conversation, including a build ID and date, followed by a timestamp and a server ID (e.g., vms109.mailsrvcs.net).  I'm in eastern Massachusetts, and when my client connects to incoming.verizon.net, one of a pool of V servers responds.  I've observed about 15 different servers, of which two (vms171011 and vms171013) show "6.3-7.04 (built Sep 26 2008)" and all the others show "6.2-6.01 (built Apr  3 2006)".  Furthermore, I observe that vms171011 and vms171013 consistently give this authentication failure for CRAM-MD5, but all the others (with the older build) consistently succeed in authenticating my accounts.
    I called FiOS Support, and the CSR took down took down some relevant info, said she'd pass it on the the e-mail folks.  Within 2 hours I got a call from a Verizon tech.  He said they "knew" about it and that it was a Mac problem.  It wasn't specific to VZ, and it occurred only on Macs.   He had no explanation for my observation that mail-check authentication works with 13 of VZ's servers and consistently fails with two which have a later build version/date, but he believed it was consistent with it being an Apple problem.  So naturally he was off the hook.
    He referred me to an Apple Support Forum discussion to back up his position.  I hadn't seen (or thought of looking in) the Apple forums, so I had a look and found a total of 5 threads under "Mail and Address Book".  Of course, these deal with Mail.app, .  Comcast as well as VZ.  This is the lengthiest of them:
      http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8478765#8478765
    These Apple discussion threads and the two Verizon Forum threads all mention Macintoshes, which lends credence to the tech's assertion that it's a Mac problem, not Verizon's.  I've found one that seems to depict the same thing on a PC (http://groups.google.com/group/comp.mail.eudora.ms-windows/browse_thread/thread/b426c0ca59841ca9), but it's not conclusive.
    I don't know what PeeCee users use for a mail client or what method they use for authentication (the POP3 protocol, as amended,has several possibilities).  My Eudora app has settings for "Password", "Kerberos", and "APOP", but VZ doesn't offer Kerberos, and Eudora seems to ignore the APOP setting, so it uses only the CRAM-MD5 method, so I'm stuck.  I can't disprove that this is a Mac-only problem, but I can't understand why the CRAM-MD5 authentication always works with 13 of VZ's servers and always fails with 2 others (which happen to have a different build version/date).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    With the help of a Windows-using friend, I have additional evidence that the mail-check authentication problem is NOT Mac-specific, but also can be shown to occur with a POP3 client (the final version, Eudora 7.1.0.9) using a secure authentication method (APOP) on Windows (XP Home, SP 3).  He had been observing no authentication problems, but investigation showed that his authentication setting was for "Password", which uses the basic (and very insecure) USER/PASS messages.  His Eudora does not allow CRAM-MD5, but it does have APOP authentication, which is another secure method that also uses the MD5 algorithm to encrypt the password.
    When he changed the setting to use APOP authentication, he observed the same behavior that I've reported above:
       - with most of the VZ servers (e.g., vms095.mailsrvcs.net, vms104.mailsrvcs.net) that show "6.2-6.01 (built Apr  3 2006)", the authentication succeeds
       - with vms171011.mailsrvcs.net and vms171013.mailsrvcs.net, which show "6.3-7.04 (built Sep 26 2008)", the authentication fails.
    See examples below.
    Here's a successful mail-check (these excerpts are from the Eudora log; I've edited his username):

    IMHO all this evidence validates my original hypothesis, that two (or more) of VZ's mail servers, which have server builds "6.3-7.04 (built Sep 26 2008)", advertise secure CRAM-MD5 and APOP authentication capabilities, but consistently fail such authentication attempts.  All the other servers with builds "6.2-6.01 (built Apr  3 2006)" handle these authentications correctly.  This has been shown to be the case on both Mac and Windows POP3 email clients.  Email clients that use the simpler and unsecure USER/PASS and AUTH PLAIN methods apparently see no authentication errors on any of the VZ servers.  This strongly points to this being a Verizon problem specific to two of the servers that we see here in eastern Massachusetts.  Others have also observed the same server-specificity; see for example http://eudorabb.qualcomm.com/showthread.php?t=13802 .  This problem has been reported since about mid-November.

  • Authentication failed Entourage doesn't support available authentication...

    I tried to set up and exchange account through Entourage. It works fine for receiving, but I cannot send through the account, I assume because I do not have a Certificated Authorization. So I tried to create a Certificate, since the help and instructions suggested such. This meant I had to create on in my Keychain.
    Well nothing worked, so I decided I would cheat and just create an account to send from Entourage using my exchange email account as an alias. The down side being exchange would not capture the "Sent" messages. Oh Well, I could live with that.
    This is when I started getting this error and Entourage would not send the message:
    "Authentication failed because Entourage doesn't support any of the available authentication methods."
    I eventually learned to go to the Keychain and try to verify the error and repair it. The error that appears on verification is:
    "Item “mail.bellsouth.net” has unspecified value for port attribute"
    Once the repair is executed, it shows it is repaired, but Entourage will still not send mail. So,...yes there is more...I decided to create an identical account to my working bellsouth account, that still works perfectly by the way, and the new account demonstrates the same problem and will not send, but all settlings are identical to my original POP3/SMTP account.
    Help! I do not have time machine running, but that is another issues, so lets see if I can fix this first.
    Thanks for whoever can come to the rescue!
    BarryCuda

    I believe this is a KeyChain issue, not an Entourage issue, but it is hard to tell. Can you tell? The reason I believe this is because I now cannot create an duplicate Account and have the KeyChain work properly with Entourage.
    I will post there as well, but please provide some guidance if you can. Where would I post KeyChain issue? I couldn't quite find a germane Forum.
    Sorry if I posted in the wrong place, but I have to start somewhere since it is not clear where the problem lies.
    Thanks,

  • Authentication Failed - Control or Observe

    First things first... this is what I have:
    ARD Admin: 17" MacBook Pro running 10.5.1 and ARD 3.2
    Want to control: Mirror Door PowerMac G4 with 10.4.11 and ARD client version 3.2.1
    I had the same problem prior to updates and upgrading my OS to 10.5. I can manage this computer, and share my screen with it. But I cannot observe or control it. When I try this, I receive Authentication Failed.
    I have tried re-installing the client via kickstart on the client machine. I have uninstalled all privs and settings via kickstart. I have also reset all these settings and restarted the menu, console, and agent.
    On my MBP I have removed the computer and re-added it many times. I have checked all settings on the client... flushed dns cache... fixed any network problems... verified that firewall is not turned on. I even cleaned all caches and ran maintenance on it.
    All of this I have done, and I keep receiving the same error message. Does anyone have any other ideas... I guess I could re-install the system, but I'd rather not have to do that.
    Thanks,
    Ken

    I lost access to two of my clients as well. Could see them in scanner and they even showed up as available, light blue, but I could not control or observe. So the following fixed the problem for me.
    Open terminal:
    ssh shortusername@ipaddress for specific client
    rm -rf /var/db/RemoteManagement
    rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist
    rm -r /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/Remote\ Desktop/
    rm -r ~/Library/Application\ Support/Remote\ Desktop/
    Then create special ARD client install package with ARD admin app with all the settings configured. I don’t know how to install and run the package via ssh so I just emailed it to the client and had them open the package and run the install.
    It worked for me, I now have access to the clients that I lost access to (verify failed)

    Hi .
    I tried your code , and I got the same exeption ..
    But when I changed a little bit in it , it worked ... :
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put("mail.smtp.host","host");
    props.put("mail.smtp.port","25");
    props.put("mail.smtp.auth","true");
    Session session = Session.getInstance(props,null);
    session.setDebug(true);
    Message msg = new MimeMessage(session);
    msg.setSentDate(new Date());
    msg.setFrom(new InternetAddress("[email protected]"));
    InternetAddress[] addTo = new InternetAddress[1];
    for(int i=0; i<addTo.length; i++)
    addTo[i] = new InternetAddress("[email protected]");
    msg.setRecipients(Message.RecipientType.TO, addTo);
    msg.setSubject("HIIIIIIIIIIIII");
    msg.setText("HIIIIIIIIIIII");
    Transport tr = session.getTransport("smtp");
    tr.connect("[email protected]","xxxx");
    tr.sendMessage(msg,msg.getAllRecipients());
    Actually I used : tr.sendMessage(msg,msg.getAllRecipients());
    instead of : tr.send(msg) and it worked for me ..
    Plase try it and let me know ..

    To use this program, change values for the following three constants,
    SMTP_HOST_NAME -- Has your SMTP Host Name
    SMTP_AUTH_USER -- Has your SMTP Authentication UserName
    SMTP_AUTH_PWD -- Has your SMTP Authentication Password
    Next change values for fields
    emailMsgTxt -- Message Text for the Email
    emailSubjectTxt -- Subject for email
    emailFromAddress -- Email Address whose name will appears as "from" address
    Next change value for "emailList".
    This String array has List of all Email Addresses to Email Email needs to be sent to.

    Your code doesn't work in stand alone program... just little mistake!
    Miss port property :
    props.put("mail.smtp.port", "25");
    props.put("mail.smtp.starttls.enable", "true"); // tls for gmail
    AddressTo method didn' t compile :
    InternetAddress[] addressTo = new InternetAddress[recipients.length];
    for (int i = 0; i < recipients.length; i++)
         addressTo[i] = new InternetAddress((String) recipients);
    msg.setRecipients(Message.RecipientType.TO, addressTo);

  • Authentication failed in Content Viewer

    I have a client who can’t log into Content View with his Adobe I.D., thus he cannot see the project I’m developing for him. When logging in he gets the dreaded “Authentication Failed” message. He has used Content Viewer in the past with no problem, can log into Adobe.com, is connected to the Internet and his account is verified. I even changed his account email address so it would re-verify but to no avail. I know this topic has been discussed here with varing results, but nothing has resolved the issue. I’ve tried his account information on my iPad with the same results, but my account works fine. I chatted online and by phone with tech support, but that was absolutely worthless. He hasn’t tried making a new account, but that really isn't acceptable and doesn't bode a lot of confidence in the product. Thank you.
    Bil

    There is a known issue that's impacting some customers. Can you send me a private message with the Adobe ID of the person having this trouble and I'll have someone from product support investigate and resolve the issue (there's steps they can do that I can't to resolve this)

  • Authentication failed because Outlook doesn't support any of the available authentication methods.

    When attempting to check and send email from my Mac via iCloud, I keep getting the error "Authentication failed because Outlook doesn't support any of the available authentication methods." I have change just about everything I can see available, but continue to get this message.
    I am able to send email via iCloud using my .Me and .Mac adresses, and that tells me that it is not able to store "sent emails" on iCluud and will store them loaclly on my computer. I can handle this, but whem going to iCloud Web page haave nothing withing the "sent" mailbox.
    Using OS 10.7.2, and Outlook 2011 version 14.1.3
    Thanks in advance......

    I got the following from the microsoft Web site. Also, the SMPT port must be overwriten. Use port 587
    This article contains information about the compatibility of Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 and Apple iCloud. Outlook for Mac 2011 does not support Apple iCloud calendar (CalDAV) and contact (CardDAV) synchronization.  Outlook for Mac 2011 does support iCloud Mail. For steps on how to configure your iCloud email account in Outlook for Mac 2011, go to the "More Information" section of this article.
    To configure your Apple iCloud email account in Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011, follow these steps:
    Start Outlook 2011.
    On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
    Click the plus sign in the lower-left corner, and then select E-mail.
    Enter your E-mail Address and Password, and then click Add Account.
    Note: The new account will appear in the left navigation pane of the Accounts dialog box.
    Enter one of the following in the Incoming server box:
    mail.me.com (for me.com mail addresses)
    mail.mac.com (for mac.com mail addresses)
    Click to select Use SSL to connect (recommended) under the Incoming server box.
    Enter one of the following in the Outgoing server box:
    smtp.me.com (for me.com mail addresses)
    smtp.mac.com (for mac.com mail addresses)
    Click to select Use SSL to connect (recommended) under the Outgoing server box.
    After you have entered the incoming and outgoing server information, Outlook 2011 will start to receive your email messages.
    Note: You can click Advanced to enter additional settings, such as leaving a copy of each message on the server.

    They already changed the password for service accounts running using that admin account with new password. There is no issues in domain other than this, users can login and services are fine. However, account lockout policy is disabled and if it is enabled
    I think they will have a huge issue due to this Kerberos authentication failure.
    Please help!

    Hi,
    Did you confirm the time sync issue?
    The error code 0x25, means Workstation’s clock too far out of sync with the DC’s , so i suggest you could check the time snyc of the computer failing pre-auth with DC firstly.
