Email comes from incorrect address

A client of mine has 2 gmail accounts setup in Apple Mail.
[email protected]
[email protected]
Recently, an odd thing started happening. When she would get email to firstaddress, reply to it, the recipiect FROM would read [email protected]
I've tried removing the accounts and set them back up, with same results. Even leaving off second address altogether, but still the same results. It seems an Apple Mail issue since if I use the Gmail web interface, it sends just fine.
Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
Thanks
Rich

Well, the next step is to quit Mail, then take the Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file and trash it. Restart Mail, setting the new accounts (one at a time, testing) from scratch.
Also, a thought: Is it possible that your client has a rule set through GMail that switches the "From" address? Perhaps log on to the webmail and check that before trashing the plist.

  • How to make email come from different address?

I have my mac email address but and address that is forwarded to my mac account. I would like to respond to my other address and make it look like to comes from that other address do you know if this is possible? if so how do you do it? I know it can be done in Outlook so I hope Apple allow this

    Arne,
    You may
    1) Apply the Polar Grid Tool with a Width/Height equalling the diameter of the outer ends, 0 Concentric Dividers, and as many Radial Dividers as lines; you may then Ungroup or work within the Group as desired;
    2) Move the outer circle to where you want the type to start;
    3) Use 2) as guide to start the typing on each line, using the Path Type tool;
    4) Delete/hide the circle and possible unused lines.

  • My emails come from computer to iPhone and iPad, but the emails sent from them do not sync to the computer. Can someone help me solve this? I have a 3Gs

My emails come from computer to my iPhone 3GS and my iPad, but emails sent from those devices do not show up on my computer. Any ideas how to fix?

  • My Mail account will pick up all emails but not those that come from aol addresses.

I receive emails without problems to my usual email address set up on the Mail application on my Desktop OSX 10.5.8 unless they are sent from an aol address. Oddly these emails come to my phone (Samsung Galaxy 2). These aol emails are received on the webmail (ie on my ISP server's email) so why can't I get them on my normal email system? Please help but in simple language!

Thanks for suggestion. Just tried to do that, forwarding from my own email address on webmail to my own email address on my client email. It worked! Spooky.
I'm thinking that my computer is either trying to protect itself in some way from this particular sender's emails or it just won't recognise them, but I can't find anything in the security settings that would be blocking them and according to my service provider they haven't set anything up either. I have received other aol email from different senders in the past.

  • Choosing alias which email comes from.

I just purchased an imac and was happy to see that in Mail you can choose the .mac alias you wish your email to come from. On my powerbook g4 tiger 10.4.6 I do not have the ability to choose. Email can only be sent from my main .mac account. Is there a way to make an adjustment to give me the ability to choose amongst my alias'?

Select the square button below and left of the Subject field with a new message open.
    And select Customize.
Select the box next to Account.
When finished, select OK at the far right.
This will provide an account drop-down selection below the Subject field when composing a new message.

  • Send email messages from same address to which the email was sent?

I have multiple email accounts set up on my iPhone, including one Work and one Personal account. I'd like for the iPhone to automatically reply to a message using the same account to which the email was sent (e.g., if someone emails me at my Personal address, the iPhone replies using that address) but I can't figure out how to do it. Right now, it's just sending everything using my default (Work) account.
    Anyone know if it's possible?

    Hello all,
I'm having the same problem; I've recently upgraded to the iPhone4 and I have two mail accounts on it: 1.) My personal gmail account and 2.) my work email which is using the imap version of google apps (it has our unique domain name instead of "@gmail.com") -
So now, whenever I try to send an email from my work email it is delivered as though it was sent from my personal gmail account... +that's even if I choose to change the "from" field- in the drop down scroll menu+ ... I can see both account names and even if I choose my work email it is still delivered as from my personal - the only difference being that if I manually choose to "send it" from my work email a copy of the sent email is then delivered to my work inbox - yet it still lists the sender as my personal gmail account.
This is very frustrating... My old 3g never had this problem so I am stumped as to what's causing this.
I apologize if my way of explaining this was overly confusing... but thank you in advance for any help!

  • After iOS 7 update email sends from an address that isn't set as default.

I have two gmail accounts. I have gmail 1 selected as default email in settings but when I open a new message from the main screen of email ( where you see all email accounts set up) it sends from gmail 2. The message has gmail 1 as the from address but when it is received it is from gmail 2. I have gone into setting and it still lists gmail 1 as default.
    Any ideas?

Just to clarify that should have said, my brother has the same ISP as me. Autocorrect butted in there.

  • Spam emails sent from my address book

I am being told by people in my address book that they are receiving emails that look as if they're from me but I've never sent them. All of the emails encourage the recipient to click on a link.  The emails also have a signature that it was sent from Verizon Mobile.  How can I stop this?

  • I use icloud email but (2 email accounts univ and icloud) and i need to have all my outgoing emails come "from" my university account, not my icloud.  So how do i do that, note checking the default box for sending new messages only applies to new messages

I am using icloud email but i also have a university account.  All my email is fowarded to my icloud account and what i need to do is make sure all of my email that i ship is from my university account and not from my icloud account.  I know there is a box that allows the default for all new emails to originate from one account but how do i make sure that all my replies to email (i.e. they have been fowarded from university account to icloud) now go from my university account.  please help anyone.

Sorry for the delayed response, yes i want to use my university account when replying to all emails.  Note i just discovered something, when i forward my university email to my icloud account and than responded from either my imac of my macbook air (i.e. in icloud) it automatically goes to my university account in the "from" space (good news!!!).  That is just what i wanted, .  While that is the good news, the bad news is that my iphone and ipad still treat this email as being from icloud even though it is forwarded (redirected) from my university account.  That is when i respond to an email (or for that matter create a new email in my icloud account) it automatically lists the icloud account as the "from" account and i have to go in and manually modify it.  So i am 50% there to solving my problem (i.e. actually did nothing the systems just worked well) but i still need to figure out a way to make this happen on my ipad and iphone. Any help or suggestions, note the default button in the iphone and ipad for email work differently than the default in the composition menu of the imac or macair.

This would be a function of the mail server that you are sending the mail to. Ask them why the error message has stopped. Thunderbird did its part and sent the email.

  • When emailing from iPhoto, the recipients address comes up incorrect, even though it is correct in both my email accounts.  How do I edit it?  I have changed it, but the next time it appears it contains the same errors.

When emailing from iphoto with a template, the recipients' address comes up incorrect (a couple of letters are wrong).  The addresses are correct in both my email accounts, including the one I am using for the iphoto email.  I have corrected the address prior to sending the email, but they come up with the same errors the next time I choose them in the iphoto 11 program.  How do I correct thes email addresses?  thank you

In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account.  The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

  • The incorrect iCloud email (in the from field)address is appearing

The incorrect iCloud email (in the from field) address is appearing on my iPod touch, but not on my MacBook Pro. The I Pod's ICloud email account is using my account for Itunes etc., not the icloud email address, how can I reset the "from" address?

ok thanks, so if I do nothing straight away, they won't free the address up and give it to someone else, correct?

  • When I send a text from my iPad, it shows that it comes from my email address.  If I then text that same someone from my iPhone it still shows as if its coming from my iPad.  How do I stop this?

When I send a text from my iPad, it shows that it comes from my email address.  If I then text that same someone from my iPhone it still shows as if its coming from my iPad.  How do I stop this?

On your iPhone, go to Settings -> Messages -> Receive At -> Caller ID and make sure the phone number is selected - this will cause new messages sent from your iPhone to appear to come from your iPhone phone number.
(I actually prefer to have my email selected, so that when I message someone from my iPhone and they reply, it goes to both my iPhone and iPad)
Also, when you send a message from your iPhone, make sure you're not replying within an existing conversation (that was created on your iPad and linked to your email). Just start a new conversation (even if it's to the same person) by going to the Messages app, going back to "Messages" (top left corner) if you're already looking at a conversation, and then clicking the Compose icon in the top right.

  • TS3276 I a getting numerous email msgs. addressed to an incorrect address, and when bouncing them back they come back to me saying sender can't be found.  What is going on?

I am getting numerous emails posted to an incorrect address.  When I bounce them back, they fail and the message is that there is no such sender.  What is going on?

If you are receiving emails then your address is in the list of recipients. Perhaps in a blind carbon copy field or in a group of recipients. It may appear to you that you are receiving these emails in error but you are not.
This is a ploy of spammers. They include a long list of recipients in a hidden list and use some unsuspecting or incorrect from address. You are not accomplishing anything by bouncing these emails. Either you are bouncing them to a non-existent address or you are bouncing them to an innocent person who is wondering why they are receiving your bounced email.
Just igmore the emails. The spammers will move on.
