Email deleted on another device still showing in Inbox but empty (IMAP)

Hello everyone,
First of all let me thank you for helping me. I have been searching the web a lot before coming here.
Like most people I have my email sync onto 3-4 devices. When I delete from iPhone, its still showing on my Desktop Thunderbird running on PC (Window 8).
Every morning I show up to work with blank emails that I need to delete one by one again,.

are all accounts IMAP? does right clicking the folder and selecting repair help in updating (removing) mail from the list.

  • Email deleted in iOS device still shows up in POP3 download

    This started with the upgrade to both iOS 5 and iCloud.  I was previously using MobileMe, .Mac prior to that, and iTools before that.  The whole time I've been using Entourage to download my email from Apple's servers without incident (account setup for POP3).  A few years ago I bought an iPod Touch, running iOS 3.x, and using the built-in MobileMe account setup I was able to delete emails via that device and they would not show up on the POP3 download to Entourage.  This function continued with the addition of other iDevices and software upgrades (iOS 4.x).  However, with the transition to iOS 5 and iCloud the emails that get deleted on any of my iDevices (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) still show up in my POP3 download.  What's interesting is that they are removed from the other iDevices when deleted from any one of them (they're all on the same account and have been for over a year).  I've tried to find a setting that will bring back this function without any success.

    I might have figured this out on my own (with help of scouring other discussion pages).  It would seem that Entourage is using the old MobileMe servers which receives the email traffic along with iCloud (i.e. two copies).  That's why my mail appears in my POP3 download even after deleting on my iOS devices (which are using the iCloud servers exclusively).  There doesn't appear to be any "syncing" occurring between the MobileMe and iCloud servers once the email has been delivered to each server.
    I guess I have until June 2012 to figure out what I'm going to do with Entourage.  I tend to hang on to email for a while and I don't really like the idea of it being out on Apple's servers for that amount of time.  I believe there is a way to configure an IMAP account to download off the server and keep a local copy.  I'm going to need to look into that.

Every time I pick up my iPad, I have to delete dozens of emails I already deleted from my mailboxes (I have multiple accounts ... yahoo gmail hotmail etc.) I looked for a setting that would fix this, but nothing I'm finding seems to resolve this particular issue. How can I sync my iPad email accounts so they are current, and don't require me to delete messages I already deleted from my phone or work laptop or home desktop?

    What you're describing occurs when your email provider uses POP rather than IMAP as your email protocol. Are you familiar with the difference? Most webmail providers use IMAP, which is set up for syncing across multiple devices, just the way you want. It sounds as if one or more of your providers is still using POP, the older standard.
    I personally like POP, since it lets me choose whether to deal with emails on my iPad or defer them until I'm next on my Mac, but it's a personal preference. Switch to IMAP-only email, and you should be all set.

    I use icloud on the web, and create events in my boss's calendar everyday.
    Sometimes when I create an event it's fine, other times I get this error message after I create an event:

    When I click "ok" the error message and the event then disappears from view on the calendar.
    When I refresh the browser the event is visable, but when I try to open it the same error message appears.
    What gives?
    The event is still visable on the calendar on my iPhone, but i am not able to edit it when I open it on my iPhone.
    If I try to delete the event on my iPhone so I can re-create it on the iCloud it doesn't delete properly.
    Any advice?
    I am frustrated because it's hit and miss. I am consistant in the way I create my events, so why do I get this error message half the time?

    With IMAP - the email protocol the iCloud uses - the messages live on the server and are read from there by your devices. Think of it as being like webmail and it makes sense. Therefore when your wife deletes a message she is actually deleting it from the server, which is why you see it as deleted. You can't alter this; it's inherent in the system.
    The only workaround is to sort out a method whereby emails don't get deleted until both of you have seen them - for example she could move them to another folder and you could then read them there and delete them (so their presence in that folder always means that the other person has seen them).

    You can't currently permanently delete any items from your purchase history, all you can do is hide them so that they don't appear on the Purchased tab : hiding and unhiding. As your iPad is on iOS 6 then you will need to do the hiding via your computer's iTunes, it doesn't currently work directly on iOS 6 devices

    Just want to add.
    I replied to them for a waiver., and they reply with quite a similar email again, without helping.
    The customer service IMO just use a template to answer question. Refer me back to the developer , which is apple itself

    Was the restore done via iTunes?

    Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:

    Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
    Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery.

    You are using icloud?
    maybe your account is not whit icloud and thats the problem

  • My email account in Mail.app is IMAP, but when I delete emails, they don't delete from other devices connected to the mail server with IMAP. Deleted mail on other devices delete as normal from the server and thus from other devices as normal.

    MacBook Pro, late 2011 version. Up to date Mountain Lion.
    My email account in the Mail.app is set up as IMAP, but when I delete emails in the Mac Mail App, they are not deleted from the mail clients of the other devices that are connected to the mail server with IMAP. IMAP works perfectly between Windows Outlook 2010, iPad Mail App and Android default mail client. Deleted messages behave correctly, as in delete from one device and the mail is deleted from all devices.
    Having just tested in reverse order on the Mac; emails deleted from the email client on Windows, iPad and Android are not deleted in the Mac Mail App.  It appears that the account is behaving like POP rather than IMAP.
    Any advice on how to have IMAP work correctly on the MacBook Pro Mail.app?

    Hi Csound1, thanks. The email host is 1and1.co.uk, however, i am going to fess up and make myself look like a plonker now -
    the email account in question was set up in Outlook as POP - stupid, stupid, stupid me, wasted an afternoon on this!  I have now changed the Outlook account to IMAP and Mail.app works perfectly - and looks much nicer than Outlook did.  Im in the middle of converting from Windows to a Mac, and still finding my way around the Mac
    The lesson learned, never assume - always double  check!  All my other email addresses with 1and1 are all imap, except this one, and it happened to be the first one I set up in the Mail.app. (bows head in disgrace!)
