Email epub files to iBooks

I don't have an iPad yet, and am considering getting one. I was reading a few blogs online last night and saw one (and can't now find it) that mentions that it's possible to email non-DRM ePub files to yourself and then open those files in iBooks (circumventing iTunes). Can anyone with an iPad try this out for me? I suspect it's bunk, but it's worth knowing for sure before I shell out cash. I'd much prefer to have some way of reading books on the iPad without having to go through iTunes.

Yes, they transfer to the iPad but on my iPad they do not auto-transfer to iBooks for reading nor do they open in QuickLook. They can, however, be copied to my GoodReader app, but will not open there either as it is not "billed" as an ePUB reader. On the other hand, other eBook alternative formats such as HTML (htm) and PLAIN TEXT (txt) public domain files can be opened in QuickLook or transferred GoodReader and read by that application. Whether or not the GoodReader transfer option is overriding a similar option for iBooks transfers has not been tested.

  • Epub file for ibooks

Is it possible to upload the epub file which was made by other software program.
For example, I had samsung computer, then i made epub file with eBook stylist 1.0 Beta. and tranfer it to Mac Book Pro and upload it using iTunes producer??
Is there anyone who had successful story??
and If you are, what program did you use for epub file??
If nobody were there, is this only way to make epub file using the ibook author??

Yes, I did try to upload my epub file on ibooks store, but it was failed with this messages.
    - Apple’s web service operation was not successful
-Unable to authenticate the package: Mind.itmsp
So, i was searching for solving this problem on Apple Support Communities .
but there was no exact answer to solve this problem.
I made this epub file using ebook stylist with my samsung computer and transfer this file to my friend's Mac Pro.
then had the failed results like above.
I used this epub file when I uploaded it on amazon kindle and google play which mean they have no problem on its own.
Is there any successful story to upload the epub file which was made with other software program without Mac?
I'd like to figure it out what the problem is.
    Thank you.

  • Way to save .epub file in iBooks Author?

Is there a way to save a .epub file through iBooks Author?

Not one that anyone but Apple uses, no, sorry.
    Use Pages, instead.

  • Backing up .epub files from iBooks

    Hi,
I wonder if there is a way to back up your iBooks .epub files? They're not purchased eBooks, rather, they're fanfiction downloaded from fanwork archive like http://archiveofourown.org/ (if you check the works, there's a neat little link where you can download the .epub and open them in your iBooks). I've got some two hundred files saved in my current iPad. I'm planning on buying a new iPad soon.
Does this mean I'd lose all the .epub files I have in my current iPad?
Is there a way of creating a back-up of these files so I could download them into my new iPad?
    Thanks in advance.

If they are in the iBooks app on your iPad then you should be able to copy them over to the Books part of your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases - that should copy epubs and PDFs that are in the iBooks app, not just actual ibooks.

  • HT204365 How to email pdf files from iBook in iPad?

Why I can only see "print" but no "email" button when i open my pdf files in iBooks? As far as i know i should be able to email my pdf files from ibooks right?

Yes you should be able to email a PDF from iBooks. When you tap the arrow in the upper left the option should appear.
Maybe some basic troubleshooting steps will help.
Quit the iBooks app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or .... Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
You may want to consider deleting the app and reinstalling. Tap and hold down on the app icon until it jiggles, then tap the X on the icon. Tap the home button to stop the apps from jiggling. Download iBooks again.

  • Sending email PDF files to iBooks

I received an email with 4 PDF files attached.  3 of them displayed as a PDF icon, but one fully displayed in the email. This prevented me from sending it to iBooks (which is very useful).   It could be that the displayed one was only one page (the others were more than 1 page).  My question is how do I get the displayed pdf file to ibooks?

You should be able to press and hold the PDF in the email body, and after a second or two a popup should appear with 'Open in' options - does that happen ?

    thanks
i also found solution for my poblem:
    i have this code:
    jMenuItem jMnItEdit;
    jMnItEdit.setAccelerator( KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(java.awt.event.KeyEvent.VK_ENTER, 0));
also i had ActionListener bounded to this JMenuItem
but Ialso had in form JTable and it always grabbed my VK_ENTER event and that menu item wasn't working at all
but when i overrode that input map for JTable and set
    tableInputMap.put(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_ENTER, 0, false), "none");
    everything started to work perfectly,
    thanks a lot

  • Is there a maximum viewport size for an EPUB file in iBooks?

I have noticed that very large viewports sometimes cause iBooks to crash. Is there a maximum size allowed?
    thanks,
    Liz

The viewport size I use is 512px wide by 768px high for my individual .xhtml pages.  For a two-page spread this would mean the viewport is actually 1024px by 768px.
Yet I paint my original images for a Children's Read Aloud Fixed Layout ePub at 2048px wide by 1536px high and then cut the painting in half for a two page spread.  This means on the new retina display, my images will look great yet be backward compatible with the original iPad.

Adobe Indesign can do this.  I'm sure a simple google search would find various Windows apps.
You cannot submit books directly to Apple using a Windows machine, you would have to use an Aggregator like Smashwords. So you might want to see what format the Aggregator prefers.

  • Hello....anyone know why when emailing an epub file....it arrives in my inbox as a Zip file...and iBooks cannot open it

Hello.... can anyone tell me why when I email myself an epub file....it arrives in my inbox as a Zip file...and iBooks cannot open it. Any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks

If you are running Tiger, you don't have time machine.
You need to get something like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner (sorry, I don't have a handy link for CCC but you can Google it to get their site) to make a clone of your drive on the external and then do incremental backups.  The free versions do a lot and you can upgrade to the full-service versions for small change if you need more.  The one time I used SuperDuper! for cloning a volume it worked just fine.
(My backup application is the last PPC capable version of Retrospect, which does a credible job, or has over the past ten-twelve years.)

  • Web-downloaded epub files won't transfer from iBooks to iTunes

    Hi!
Yesterday, on my iPad, I downloaded two epub files from a website (using Safari) and opened them directly in iBooks. They work fine, show up in my Library with no problem. However, I can't get them to sync down to iTunes. This is definitely not the first time I've downloaded directly to iBooks from an app on the iPad (although maybe a first for an epub from Safari?), but this is the first time I've had issues syncing down to iTunes.
I've synced and resynced and resynced and they won't transfer; not only do they not transfer, but if I open the Books folder on the iPad when it's mounted in iTunes, they're not listed. I could put them on my laptop first and then load them into iTunes and to the iPad from there, but I've highlighted and bookmarked in both books and don't want to lose all of that if it's avoidable.
Any ideas? I'm wondering if there's some limitation of iBooks that I don't know. And if there is, is there a way to now get the epub files out of iBooks some other way? (To maintain bookmarks/highlighting.)
    Anyway, thanks in advance
P.S. As a test, I just did the same thing on my iPhone with the same results: file won't sync down and doesn't show up when I browse the phone in iTunes.

i have the exact problem last week when I signed up to receive a free epub in the email.
When the email arrived I proceed to open it in ibook on my iphone and started reading, after 2 chapters I decided to sync the phone with my computer and found that it won't sync the newly downloaded epub, not even showing it in the device list in itunes.
So I tried the same thing on my ipad, download to ibook, sync with computer. Same result: the book was not synced and won't show in ipad's book folder in the device list.
    Still haven't found a solution

  • Ibooks doesn't read epub files

I have installed the latest version of ibooks on my iPad.
First of all I wanted to try if it works properly.
So I sent an e-book (epub format bought from a seller that is not Apple) by email. I recovered it from the mail (the icon was recognized as an epub  file) and it asked me if i wanted to open it with ibooks.
Well, the app said that the file was corrupted or was not in a proper format to be read.
This happened with other epub files.
Another app read those files perfectly (asked me only the authorization to read epub files inserting the ID and PW for Adobe).
Does it means that ibooks reads epub files bought only from Apple??
    Thank you.

If the epub has digital-rights-management on it then you won't be able to read it in the iBooks app.

  • I AM TRYING TO PUT  A PDF FILE IN IBOOKS, WHEN OPEN IT IN EMAIL NO OPTION TO OPEN IN IBOOKS.  CAN SOMEONE HELP?

I am trying to open a PDF file in Ibooks.  When I send it to myself via email and go to open on the Ipad I don't get the option to open in Ibooks.  How do I fix that?

    Hi johnc,
I'm sorry to hear that your file didn't convert well for you. Can you please tell me more about the PDF that you're trying to convert? Do you know how it was created? The quality of a conversion depends on the quality of the PDF, and it sounds like the file you have may not include the tagging information that is required to convert that properly into an Excel file. Would you be willing to share that file with me? If so, let me know and I'll send you a private message with my contact details.
    Best,
    Sara
