Email images from iPhoto cannot be opened by ( PC ) others

I am new to G4 and sending directly from " email " within the iPhoto program. I have been selecting the 680 X 480 file size and yet people ( all PC users ) say they cannot open the attachment. Some say it is a MIME and others report it as a JPEG. Any tips on overcoming this problem for these poor PC users.

We are a Mac/PC household and I was able to check the 25 emails with attachments sent from a Mac to a PC. 20 did not come through so I resent or forwarded 5 of the original emails with photo attachments this time sending them from mail ( not iPhoto ) and they did not have even a file name attachment this time. Is that wierd. I am just trying out this G4 since I was given it and so far I am not impressed. We were the original Apple 2E household in the 80's so we always knew it was a good platform but I have had nothing but trouble sorry to say. Besides the whole alure of the 2E is you could jack it up open the lid and work on it. Years latter I don't have time for that if you know what I mean. Thanks for letting me vent.

  • Can't email images from iphoto

Is there somebody on the phone who can guide me through solving this problem?
I always getting messages saying that my server or email address is not recognized or rejected.
Trying to find an answer to my problem via "help" windows is wasting my time.
Thanks for any real help that comes my way.

Thanks, but neither of your suggestions worked, though I did change the "smtp"to lower case from upper. It had no effect. Neither did quiting Mail and reopening, none of the "test" emails waiting in the out folder got sent. I get a dialogue box saying that port 25 has been timed out and I should try another server.
I've got to say, this is a real mess. Is there a DSL provider out there that has a dedicated system for Apple?
    MrOllen
I just set up a new DSL account using AT&T and Yahoo
and use sbcglobal.net to receive and send mail using
    OS X Mail application.
Sometimes (it seems) Mail "forgets" the info you've
entered and refuses to send or asks for a password.
The message is then moved to the "Outbox".
Check the Mail/Accounts settings to make sure
everything is as it should be.
Server names should be lower case letters
    (smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com).
Last resort that has worked for other mail servers I
use in Mail is to let the file reside in the outbox.
Quit Mail and relaunch it. Mail is usually sent.

  • Since upgrading to mountain lion on my macbook pro, i cannot email photos from iphoto.

Since upgrading to mountain lion on my macbook pro, i cannot email photos from iphoto.
i can select the picture but when sending it, an error symbol appears.
    Any ideas ?

This doesn't work for me at all. I tried entering exactly the same information that I used to set up my regular email account and I'm still getting an error message. I even tried switching to using my gmail account and neither one worked. Then it got hung up and had to repair my database! I have a lot of photos on my Mac (thank goodness they're backed up) and I was really sweating it for a moment.
Apple is so easy until it's not. I find this to be really aggrevating and I'm irritated that it hasn't been fixed. In fact I did an online search and someone described this same problem in detail and it was exactly what was happening to me. Same error messages.
I'm frustrated that Apple keeps updating it's operating system and then we go through these glitches.
And while I'm at it, I have never had such a frustrating time using my login information as I have to get into this forum! Why do they make it so difficult? There's just something about the way it's worded that get's me messed up every time. Meanwhile, at least get iPhoto fixed!

  • IPhoto states server did not reply so I cannot email photos from iPhoto

I cannot email photos from iPhoto.  I checked the outgoing mail server and port and they are correct. When I try to email photos the message i'm getting is the server did not reply check your internet connection and try later.. but my internet connection is fine. Any suggestions? I have Yosemite 10.10.3 software installed.

Do you have two-step verification enabled  and are trying to mail from your iCloud account?
    Then check this solution:
If you had two-step verification enabled, you have to set up an app-specific password for iPhoto, if you want to use iPhoto as a Mail client.
    See the post below:
Re: I am using iPhoto version 9.6 and I can no longer get an email sent with a photo attached. I get an error message saying the email did not go through because the server did not reply. I can send the photo with Mail. Help!in response to Gary Kissler
This solution is for those of you using 2-step verification for your Apple ID and are using iCloud as the mail server that you are trying to mail photos with.
I too had this issue. The problem in my case occurred because I had setup 2-step authentication for my Apple ID. If you have done this then you will get the error message "the mail server did not recognize your email/password...". To solve the problem go to:
    https://appleid.apple.com
    Click "Manage Your Apple ID"
Verify your identity with the device you selected (if this step does not show up then you have not likely set up 2-step authentication and this is not your solution)
Click Password and Security in the left column
    Click Generate an app-specific password
Enter iPhoto as the name of the app
Copy the password and paste this into the password box in iPhoto where you would normally enter your apple ID (in the mail account section in iPhoto preferences).
    And...voila' (I hope)

  • Does opening an image from iPhoto in another app double the file size?

I'm told (the usually unreliable sources;-) that when you open an image from iPhoto on an iPad into another appson the iPad, Photo Manager Pro for example, it actually duplicates the image: in effect doubling the file space taken up on the iMac. For example, if you had 10, 10 MB images in iPhoto on your iPad, and you opened them to the Photo Manager, it makes a copy, I'm told. If that is correct, you'd now have 20, 10MB images on your iPad; and if you opened those in a image editor on your iPad, you'd now have 30, 10 MB images! Is this correct?
If so, pretty soon all the storage space would be taken up?
Is that true, and if so, what's the workaround?
    Thanks
    Haly2k1

Not necesarilly, the app will portray the photo from your library, not make a duplicate.
    Hope this helps.

  • When I email photos from iphoto(9.2.2) the recipients are unable to open the jpegs - why?

When I email photos from iphoto (9.2.2) the recepients are unable to open the files, and command I tells me they are locked-
How and where do I unlock them?

You can't unlock files on their machines.
iPhoto sends HTML emails and not every email application (or user) knows how to work with these.
Send Plain text emails via Mail instead. That's pretty foolproof.

  • Cannot select images from iPhoto

I made a desktop AIR application that allows users to upload images to our server. Everything works except for Mac people trying to select images from iPhoto.
This is how I have the file selection setup:
    private var fileRefList:FileReferenceList;
    private var imageFileTypes:FileFilter = new FileFilter("Images (*.jpg, *.jpeg)", "*.jpg; *.jpeg");
    private var allImageTypes:Array = new Array(imageFileTypes);
You can see the problem in the screenshot is that the select button won't enable, even though images are selected. Any ideas?

This is an example of the problem. It actually works the first time you select iphoto images, but if you try it again the select button (in the file browser window) is disabled.

  • I cannot email picture from iPhoto

When I try to send a picture in iPhoto to my email address I get the message that my email and password are not recognized.  How to I fix this?

Delete your email account from iPhoto and enter it again from the iPhoto Preferences > Accounts tab:
If the problem persists, set iPhoto to use the "mail.app" as mail client and not iPhoto. You can change this in the "General" preferences tab.

  • Email photos from iPhoto creates blank attachments

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I cannot find a thread on it. How come whenever I email photos from iPhoto it sends along a blank attachment to go along with every photo I send? I have my mail options set to "always send windows friendly attachments".
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi Joe,
That's the resource fork. Don't know why it does that, but you can strip the resource fork before you send the images. You would have to share/export the image, then strip the fork (using something like GrimRipperCM), then attach to mail.
Or just tell the recipients to disregard the blank attachment.

I have tried VERY unsuccessfully to install the new iphoto 9.2.3 update.

Insane...I have all my updates including Lion 10.7.3 why does APPLE KEEP SENDING BETAS AS A REAL PRODUCT?
Does anyone know how to copy over a backup from a twinned drive Backup? What files etc.

    Thanks Terence,
I did get it working finally...and your last advice was what I needed.
I am embarassed that I was an early adopter...SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER and read the problems before creating some for myself.
This was an excercise in frustration, because of the obtuse division between the appstore and Apple Support downloads... it was a bit of a circuitous route...strange that with all the security reciepts and tracking that Apple goes to to prevent piracy... which Steve by his own admission used to build Apple...
Why aren't the server scripts smart enough to say…”HEY DUMMY you can't use this download because you purchased the last iPhoto upgrade from the appstore...and… DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME and precious data BUDGET downloading this gargantuan file which will eat 20% of your expensive 5Gb monthly data allotment!!!…and NOT WORK…only pretend to…and then foul your system….kill your productivity and turn your hair whiter…even worse than LION did.
I am just so antagonized by the inept scripts in recent installations that don't do a diagnostic before allowing installation that is going to corrupt things...I had less effort and frustration when I ran my ATARI with a MAC emulator...rarely lost any productivity to nonsense.
I AM TIRED OF BETAs dressed as products...designed and rushed out for Apple toys that once were tools of the creative trade...COREL...may still have a chance at a comeback if Apple keeps pumping out toys instead of the venerable tools we once adored as income enhancers.

  • How do I Export Raw images from Iphoto to Adobe Photo Elements 4

I recently purchased Photo elements 4 because I could import images from Iphoto in Raw format and work with them. Everything I have read and the instructional video sent to me by Adobe make it look and sound very easy but so far I have had no success.
I have been able to open Bridge and view photos from Iphoto so it seems to me that everything that I have in Iphoto is automatically transfered to Elements 4. However I can not find my Raw images. What am I doing wrong or failing to do and is there some logical sequence that I have to follow to import Raw images.
I am using a Nikon D200 and just to be safe I have been shooting so the images are saved both in JPEG and RAW.
Thanks for any help you can provide

    dakota8,
iPhoto and Adobe Bridge are incompatible, so you need to decide which one you want to use (for which photos). iPhoto is a database, with many flexible features for organizing your library and finding your photos. Bridge is a file browser with some organizing capabilities. You absolutely should not use Bridge or any other application (Finder included) to browse the files inside your iPhoto Library folder, as it will damage the iPhoto database. To verify, click on iPhoto's Help and read the section "About using the iPhoto Library."
If you want to keep your RAW files in iPhoto, then you'll need to open them from iPhoto. As Dave E said, this can be done by setting the iPhoto pref to export RAW files. You also need to set PE 4 as the external editor in iPhoto's preferences. With this setup, you can select photos using iPhoto, open the RAW files into PE 4, then edit. Now comes the wrinkle in the workflow. Normally, you would do a Save to cause your edited file to be saved back into the iPhoto library. This Save, not Save As, requires that the filename and extension stay the same. Works great with jpeg files. However, once you edit the RAW, the extension (and file format) must change. Save will not work, because any save at this point is treated like a Save As. So you have to Save As to a folder OUTside of your iPhoto Library, and then import it in as a new file. There will be no link between the edited version and its unedited RAW file. You could organize inside iPhoto to display the edited file beside its original RAW, or keep separate rolls for the originals and edits.
With that in mind, you might not want to save the RAW files in iPhoto at all. You could create your own filing system for them, which you would browse using Bridge. Upload using Image Capture to save your files to a folder of your choice. Once you edit the RAW files and save as another format, you could them import into iPhoto for cataloging or further editing. You'll just have to find the system that works best for you.
BTW, don't save your edited RAW files as Adobe RAW. I tried and discovered that iPhoto refuses to import them at all.
I have been able to open Bridge and view photos from Iphoto so it seems to me that everything that I have in Iphoto is automatically transfered to Elements 4.
There's no transferring involved at all. Bridge is rooting directly inside the iPhoto Library folder. Did I mention that it's best to avoid this?
However I can not find my Raw images.
When you import a file it is saved into the Originals folder. Your RAW files are there, along with any video clips you may have imported.
iPhoto automatically creates a jpeg version of your RAW files and stores it in the Modified folder. It has to do this in order to display the picture on your screen. With video clips, a jpeg of the first frame is created for display purposes.
I am using a Nikon D200 and just to be safe I have been shooting so the images are saved both in JPEG and RAW.
If you import both versions into iPhoto, then you have
    Originals - RAW
    Modified - jpeg
    Originals - jpeg
(Modified - jpeg - if you edit the jpeg version or if they are auto-rotated to portrait orientation)
I don't shoot in RAW, so I can't really comment about which workflow would be the most efficient. I just played with it long enough to realize that there is no easy way to do it.
    Regards.

  • Emailing Photos from iPhoto 09 causes date/time information to be lost

My entire family just updated from iLife 06 to iLife 09. We are all running OS 10.5.7 and have installed all of the auto updates for iLife. Since the upgrade, we've noticed that if we email eachother pictures (using Apple's Mail program), the date and time information seems to get lost (this was not a problem before the iLife upgrade). When I receive an email with a photo attached (it was attached using the email button in iPhoto), when I import that photo into my iPhoto, the date/time are of the current import, not of when the photo was taken. Is this a known problem? If not, is there any way to fix this? Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The copies of photos that iPhoto makes for emailing and other uses are stripped of the EXIF data when edited or mailed using the Email button.
To keep the EXIF data with the files you email you will need to not edit the file and drag the thumbnail from iPhoto into an open email window. Once the photo is in the email body you can resize it using the menu at the bottom right of the email window.
Send a feature request regarding this to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

  • Removing Images from iPhoto

I don't know how to remove images from iPhoto 8 or 6. I prefer to use PhotoShop Elements and I want to move the iPhoto images from wherever they are into a separdate folder so that I can put them into Bridge CS3 and use Elements. But I cannot figure a way to do this. Thanks.

    Terence
I purchased the Duplicate Annihilator that you recommended and with about an hour it had detected almost 5,000 duplicates, so I went ahead and identified them, also did the thumbs and found about 300 there, so I put them in the trash and deleted all that came up and now I am down to 5,000 - pictures. I will run it again tomorrow
Thank you for your help, and a bargain to boot, I must tell my Mac store about this!
Very much appreciated.... the reason that I hesitated to bring over the old iPhoto is that a few months back a bunch of my pictures from there 'disappeared' -so I didn't want to import a corrupt application?
    Happy trails
